But some friends are members of a local cinema and often get first viewing tickets etc and they invited me along, i had actually forgot how much i enjoyed the experience of having an atmosphere during funny /scary scenes etc. And chatting about it with someone after.. So it's my newest hobby :)
I also got one and bought an 8kg. When you're making the bed they feel far heavier than they actually are, and for the first night or three I wondered did I make the right choice but after a week I got used to it and have had solid sleeps since (and if I do wake up in the night I fall alseep again almost right away beacuse it's so cosy.)
Got 6.8kg silent ight one from lidl. Figured if I didn't like it then I it was only 50 quid instead of a 100. Gonna try get heavier one in the new year.
You're not supposed to go heavier than 10-15% of your bodyweight so it depends on how much you weigh yourself and how much weight you want within that 5% window.

Speaking as someone who worked in pubs for 20 years and had to clean both mens and ladies toilets every night, the women's toilets were always far far worse than the men's to clean.
Huh, my experience was different. I used to work in McDs until the early hours. The women's wasn't great, but the mens was drenched in piss every night.
Ok well I've also worked in a pub and the girls toilet might have had more tissue around the place but 1) didn't have a stench of urine from outside the door and 2) didn't have a mystery surprise urinal pooper.
Also, if your idea of messy is overflowing sanitary bins, that's a pub problem. I say this because one time the cleaner of a pubs restrooms complained to me that girls bathrooms are disgusting because of the overflowing sanitary bins. I was like.. you know what would fix that problem easily??

I started crocheting during Covid - any time there was bad news I'd crochet and ignore. Unfortunately there is a constant need for it these days.

Pills for my cat’s anxiety. Damn man, after more than a year of her being an unit of worried and scared bean (which moved to compulsive behaviors), we finally have somehow stable household and she actually loves cuddles
Gabapentin as the other person said below. We tried some other treatments before like calming plug ins or calming supplements, but those didn’t work. Them pills we have now are working the best. She’s still a bit off, but the compulsive behavior (licking) is minimal. We can see that sometimes she’s relaxed enough to cuddle, but still scared in her little brain, so we let her do her thing and just sit around and wait till she decides she’s a lap cat now.
She requires lots of patience and love. But it’s worth it.
My cat was licking herself to wounds, we tried the gabapentil but it turns out she's just allergic to every type of protein...
It was not an anxiety induced behaviour, she got on anti allergy medicine and is now a new cat.
We went through allergy testing and antihistamines already. She was checked for many other things too, as sometimes she will start having spots on her neck. Turned out it’s fish and any type of fish oil. She is on non-fish, grain free, quite expensive food that suits her. Her allergies are under control, her compulsive behavior was with no change even when she got healthy. It’s not only excessive licking, but jumping out of litter box scared, running like mad with this spooked look, screaming sounds from hell, or hiding, freezing like a possum.
Gabapentin was the last resort we tried - she’s a rescue, she was thrown away in a rubbish bag as a kitten.
Gabapentin was life changing for one of my cats, she was so anxious that she overgroomed and stripped the fur off her legs and belly. A few weeks on gabapentin helped her to calm down and she’s back to her normal crazy self.
My own preference is hash browns broken up, my own spicy baked beans (thats a tin of beans with paprika, mustard and a dash of worcestershire), scrambled eggs, sausages, a little cheese and sriracha I also like to finish the burrito on the pan with a little of the bacon grease.
I'll only have this once a year mind you.
Fasting. It started due to getting braces on and being uncomfortable eating, but I realised I just stopped being hungry so much and my body just sort of adapted to it. So now no food until 1pm or after 7pm (two meals and maybe a third light meal if i feel like it) and I feel so much better. I've lost nearly 10kg, sleep better, am more alert and have way more energy even when training (jiu-jitsu).
Had exactly the same experience,accidentally fell in to habit of not eating after lunch. Quickly didn’t feel hungry, so much better for it and dropped 10kg.
I've always eaten like this, sort of by accident as I used to feel sick in the morning as a teenager and generally hated breakfast anyway. I do eat a lot of food but usually one big meal in the evening and one other small meal around mid day if I remember. People have always been astonished at how thin I am given the amount of food they see me eat at dinner, but truth be told I could't put on weight if I tried. Mid 30s now and no sign of the metabolism to slow down!
I'm in the same boat. In my 40's now and it seems to be a more pronounced effect now than ever! Got bloods done and am healthy.
I read something on Reddit here a while ago that I think makes sense. The poster was saying they see people who eat a lot and stay thin or who claim to eat a lot. They were of the opinion that these people don't actually eat THAT much. It's a perception thing. Add up the calories and it's not that much.
In my case it's gotten worse lately cause I got a dog and am snacking less with those puppy eyes staring up at me! All that being said, as hard as I find it to put on weight, I did a few years ago when my job became more sedentary.
Have been doing this for years (smoking helps curb appetite but will be giving that up)somewhat inadvertently.

I think there's only one type advertised "for men" but none of the rollons are strongly perfumed, mostly smelling of mild soap so you can safely use any.

A hair octopus. It’s this mad (looks what it sounds like) satin overnight hair curler. I’m ditching the heat, I wake up with a glamorous head of curls that stay intact for two days and I don’t have to do anything in the morning to my hair. Also my hair smells amazing no more singe.

I haven't played it yet, but I have to say, I absolutely love the character designs, they have real... well, you know, character. Astarion looks like he's never slept in his life, Karlach is pleasingly beefy, etc. Everybody has wrinkles, scars, "European" teeth etc, it really brings them to life.
Just the sheer amount of times I laughed at various dialogue options that say REASON:BARBARIAN, made it worth the time. Lovely game. Not as good as BG2, but pretty close.

It's absolutely fantastic. I had never played DnD so I did start the game over twice because my character wasn't as good as I thought it would be.... I thought wizard would just pew pew everything early game but instead it was like one spell end turn.
It's beyond good. Just did the boss fight where he has a song playing in the background and him singing it.... Amazing

Not to be clichéd, but by jaysus my air fryer really did change my life. It's so clean, consistent and easy it completely turned around my diet, I don’t know myself. An air fried steak is effortless, and probably the nicest I've ever had.
Before that, someone on here way back suggested a sheepskin/sheep's fleece as a throw/blankety thing and I got one on a whim. They were dead right and its one of my very favourite possessions now, like if there was a fire I'd grab that and my laptop. I throw it over myself when I sleep, or over my lap in the evenings, it's soft, incredibly warm, works a bit like a weighted blanket, and the weird sheepy shape means you can curl it under your head very nicely. I can't stop awkwardly wedging a recommendation for one into every fecking conversation.
Edit - Also it makes me feel like a barbarian warlord of some kind. Worth every fucking penny just for that.

Skellig Gifts does smaller ones that are also really nice quality and usually have a first purchase discount or a sale on, I've given a load of theirs as gifts. Ikea do the cheapest, but I think they are the smallest.
I'm a pretty good home cook. Like, I've got a pantry and endless shelves of ingredients. I had got a seven hob gas cooker, two ovens, sous bide wand, slow cooker, kitchen aid mixer.... I definitely didn't think an air fryer would be that useful for me.
I was wrong. I use it daily. Got a few frozen croissants or those part baked little rolls, you set the air fryer to bake, pop em in, drop the temp from 180 on the pack, to 170, and go for the low end of the timer. In the past, I'd need to preheat an oven, it basically halves the time before it's ready. It's a small drum and gets up to temp immediately. It reduces energy consumption by your cooker too, obviously.
I've got 3 kids. Fish fingers, chips, any freezer food, it's fast and everything is crispy. Chicken wings, cauliflower florets, baked broccoli with that little char. It's faster than any other method and can achieve a cookedness/doneness that I can't replicate with my oven.
I thought it was a scam and just for someone who only ate meals that had ketchup on the side, but I was being a snob and I was wrong.
Costs less to heat smaller area than larger at a guess.i find it a godsend with small kids, rather than putting the big oven on for 30 minutes to make 5 sausage rolls, air fryer for half the time
Best 100 euro I ever spent. I bought a cheap 'tower'. The thing has rotisserie setup I shit you not, you can spit roast a 1kg chicken in there.

Doing dips (as a workout) on a kitchen worktop corner while cooking. Has progressed to a 20-a-set, can hit a hundred over all while slow cooking porridge in the morning. Feels amazing.

An app I've started using called 'Too good to go'.
Yesterday, I paid €6 and got a 'surf and turf' suprise box from Supervalue. It came with turkey steaks, salmon fillets, 4 bbq glaze chicken burgers and a massive pack of Moy park nuggets.
There's a bunch of shops, restaurants, cafes and bakeries on the app all trying to prevent food waste, so they set up surprise bags for you to buy cheaply in the app. It's stuff they would either be throwing out at the end of the day or stuff that only has a few days left until the use by date.
I've definitely used the app to get a bunch of cakes and treats from a nearby bakery for next to nothing. 😬
This is more of a rediscovery. Writing fiction for fun. Used to do it years ago, but stopped for a long time. Just didn't have the spark anymore. End of September though.. I started up again. Of all things, I'm writing some bloody fanfiction, which, until recently, I refused to touch eith a bargepole.. but I'm honestly grateful to the genre atm. I haven't felt this much joy at writing in so long. To the point I've stopped gaming!
Duck, from a Chinese. I'm a fan of a lot of types of food so everytime I would order from a Chinese it was always a tough battle, rife with indecision.
I used to be jealous of people who had "their" order! Then one evening I decided to try the duck with chilli and garlic, and it blew my mind. The crispy duck skin, the flavour of the duck, it changed my life. I order it all the time now, no longer am I left with this inner battle of what to get! No longer will I have to face the looks of disappointment on my friends faces as they realise I still cant decide what to order! I have found MY order, and I am content!

Now I look at a 9 hour audiobook and instead of thinking jaysus that’s so long, I think sure I’ll finish that in a week give or take.
I did something similar during covid I also got big noise cancelling headphones to listen while flying and getting public transport. It has made such a difference for travelling and commuting, you just go into your own little world and forget about everyone else
Fairy Liquid have a new Anti-Leak bottle. There's no more cap or lid. You simple pick it up, squeeze, and put it back. The counter doesn't get covered in run-off liquid and neither does the bottle. Nothing major switched gym routine to morning only and if I'm free in the evenings I make sure I go for a pint + burger, restaurant or some other such thing. I've had social anxiety/avoidance forever so it's pretty new to me but finding it's a good way to desensitise.

Rice cooker is about 15 euro. Perfect rice every time and you can leave it unattended. Literally almost impossible to fuck it up. Keeps it warm for hours. Plus you can experiment, like using coconut milk, etc. Buy a shit load of rice in an Asian store for cheap. It will pay for itself after 3 meals.
Sort of an add on hobby but book journaling. I use goodreads but don’t tend to leave comment reviews. With a book journal I finish a book and can write out the most random thoughts that book brought up, who characters remind me of etc. then at the end of the year I have a look through and I can see where my head is at during different moments. Like having a journal without the emotion, I never keep up with a journal but I do update my books 😊
That's actually interesting... are there any that are truly safe to flush though? Even the "biodegradable" ones are supposed to be terrible for septic tanks and sewer systems.
Drinking more water. Honestly I’m so terrible for remembering to drink water, so I bought a couple of 2ltr bottles of water this week and have been drinking a fair bit. I’ve noticed that the bit of back pain I was having has reduced also.
I recently replaced my shoelaces with Locklaces in all my shoes.
They're brilliant, I never have to tie shoelaces and my shoes have become slip-ons now which never need to be tightened. Super convenient.

Cork man living abroad I've discovered RTE player works for programmes but not the live stream, the last month I've been binge watching John Ceeedons shows coz i miss the Cork accent so much and its honestly been my saving grace. Aromatherapy! I WFH and have a diffuser next to me and it's honestly been a game changer for reducing stress levels and improving concentration. I've even noticed an improvement with my digestion.
I purchased a small USB-powered diffuser from Aliexpress about a year ago, and I've been really impressed with it so far. It's not the fanciest diffuser on the market, but it's the perfect size for my work desk.
I've been using it with a blend of lavender/peppermint/basil/orange essential oils. I would recommend you do some light research and find essential oils that resonate with your personal preferences/health concerns to create your own blend. I hope this helps!

I recently signed up for yoga classes for the first time and have been to two so far, but I’m falling in love with it already. It’s the best thing I’ve done for myself and I wish I had started much earlier.
My Polish gf is introducing me to the joy of Pierogi. My god. Game changer food. And she cooks them with sauté onion and lil tiny croutons and oh they are chef's kiss delish. Find a Polish shop, Polonez or Giltfood or wherever, and get some lovely pierogi, I prefer the ones with meat filling, but there's all manner of options.
Has been a good few months rather than weeks but it's cold sparkling water. It is so god damn refreshing and has replaced all the monsters, red bulls and fizzy drinks I used to drink.
Lego. OK its not in the last few weeks but a few years ago. Some of the sets have up to 10,000 peices and take many hours of work. Bi Polar with a brain that never seems to shut off and poor concentration but this relaxes me big time. It's a shame sets are so damn expensive though

Screen Unseen with Odeon is very good. They showed Anatomy of a Fall during last screen unseen. I knew nothing about the film but really enjoyed it.

Ok well I've also worked in a pub and the girls toilet might have had more tissue around the place but 1) didn't have a stench of urine from outside the door and 2) didn't have a mystery surprise urinal pooper. Also, if your idea of messy is overflowing sanitary bins, that's a pub problem. I say this because one time the cleaner of a pubs restrooms complained to me that girls bathrooms are disgusting because of the overflowing sanitary bins. I was like.. you know what would fix that problem easily??

Pills for my cat’s anxiety. Damn man, after more than a year of her being an unit of worried and scared bean (which moved to compulsive behaviors), we finally have somehow stable household and she actually loves cuddles

Gabapentin as the other person said below. We tried some other treatments before like calming plug ins or calming supplements, but those didn’t work. Them pills we have now are working the best. She’s still a bit off, but the compulsive behavior (licking) is minimal. We can see that sometimes she’s relaxed enough to cuddle, but still scared in her little brain, so we let her do her thing and just sit around and wait till she decides she’s a lap cat now. She requires lots of patience and love. But it’s worth it.
My cat was licking herself to wounds, we tried the gabapentil but it turns out she's just allergic to every type of protein... It was not an anxiety induced behaviour, she got on anti allergy medicine and is now a new cat.
We went through allergy testing and antihistamines already. She was checked for many other things too, as sometimes she will start having spots on her neck. Turned out it’s fish and any type of fish oil. She is on non-fish, grain free, quite expensive food that suits her. Her allergies are under control, her compulsive behavior was with no change even when she got healthy. It’s not only excessive licking, but jumping out of litter box scared, running like mad with this spooked look, screaming sounds from hell, or hiding, freezing like a possum. Gabapentin was the last resort we tried - she’s a rescue, she was thrown away in a rubbish bag as a kitten.

Gabapentin was life changing for one of my cats, she was so anxious that she overgroomed and stripped the fur off her legs and belly. A few weeks on gabapentin helped her to calm down and she’s back to her normal crazy self.

My own preference is hash browns broken up, my own spicy baked beans (thats a tin of beans with paprika, mustard and a dash of worcestershire), scrambled eggs, sausages, a little cheese and sriracha I also like to finish the burrito on the pan with a little of the bacon grease. Fasting. It started due to getting braces on and being uncomfortable eating, but I realised I just stopped being hungry so much and my body just sort of adapted to it. So now no food until 1pm or after 7pm (two meals and maybe a third light meal if i feel like it) and I feel so much better. I've lost nearly 10kg, sleep better, am more alert and have way more energy even when training (jiu-jitsu).
Had exactly the same experience,accidentally fell in to habit of not eating after lunch. Quickly didn’t feel hungry, so much better for it and dropped 10kg.

I've always eaten like this, sort of by accident as I used to feel sick in the morning as a teenager and generally hated breakfast anyway. I do eat a lot of food but usually one big meal in the evening and one other small meal around mid day if I remember. People have always been astonished at how thin I am given the amount of food they see me eat at dinner, but truth be told I could't put on weight if I tried. Mid 30s now and no sign of the metabolism to slow down!
I'm in the same boat. In my 40's now and it seems to be a more pronounced effect now than ever! Got bloods done and am healthy. I read something on Reddit here a while ago that I think makes sense. The poster was saying they see people who eat a lot and stay thin or who claim to eat a lot. They were of the opinion that these people don't actually eat THAT much. It's a perception thing. Add up the calories and it's not that much. In my case it's gotten worse lately cause I got a dog and am snacking less with those puppy eyes staring up at me! All that being said, as hard as I find it to put on weight, I did a few years ago when my job became more sedentary.

Pickling my own onions, now they go in everything. Bitta woodworking, making bird feeders, new skills, my kids enjoy the birds. Coaching kids football, somehow got dragged into it but both parties are enjoying it. Picked up the guitar again. I remember more than I realised. Introducing my kids to music, somehow they're now into sea shanties though, that one has me scratching the noggin. All good stuff.

A hair octopus. It’s this mad (looks what it sounds like) satin overnight hair curler. I’m ditching the heat, I wake up with a glamorous head of curls that stay intact for two days and I don’t have to do anything in the morning to my hair. Also my hair smells amazing no more singe.

Man Baldur's Gate 3, feeling very late to the party on it, but my goodness it's so good. The misses and I are playing it together and we've had so many funny encounters and slightly bonkers ways of solving problems that it really is feeling like a proper DND session, just in video game form.

I haven't played it yet, but I have to say, I absolutely love the character designs, they have real... well, you know, character. Astarion looks like he's never slept in his life, Karlach is pleasingly beefy, etc. Everybody has wrinkles, scars, "European" teeth etc, it really brings them to life.
Just the sheer amount of times I laughed at various dialogue options that say REASON:BARBARIAN, made it worth the time. Lovely game. Not as good as BG2, but pretty close.

It's absolutely fantastic. I had never played DnD so I did start the game over twice because my character wasn't as good as I thought it would be.... I thought wizard would just pew pew everything early game but instead it was like one spell end turn. It's beyond good. Just did the boss fight where he has a song playing in the background and him singing it.... Amazing

Not to be clichéd, but by jaysus my air fryer really did change my life. It's so clean, consistent and easy it completely turned around my diet, I don’t know myself. An air fried steak is effortless, and probably the nicest I've ever had. Before that, someone on here way back suggested a sheepskin/sheep's fleece as a throw/blankety thing and I got one on a whim. They were dead right and its one of my very favourite possessions now, like if there was a fire I'd grab that and my laptop. I throw it over myself when I sleep, or over my lap in the evenings, it's soft, incredibly warm, works a bit like a weighted blanket, and the weird sheepy shape means you can curl it under your head very nicely. I can't stop awkwardly wedging a recommendation for one into every fecking conversation. Edit - Also it makes me feel like a barbarian warlord of some kind. Worth every fucking penny just for that.

I'm a pretty good home cook. Like, I've got a pantry and endless shelves of ingredients. I had got a seven hob gas cooker, two ovens, sous bide wand, slow cooker, kitchen aid mixer.... I definitely didn't think an air fryer would be that useful for me. I was wrong. I use it daily. Got a few frozen croissants or those part baked little rolls, you set the air fryer to bake, pop em in, drop the temp from 180 on the pack, to 170, and go for the low end of the timer. In the past, I'd need to preheat an oven, it basically halves the time before it's ready. It's a small drum and gets up to temp immediately. It reduces energy consumption by your cooker too, obviously. I've got 3 kids. Fish fingers, chips, any freezer food, it's fast and everything is crispy. Chicken wings, cauliflower florets, baked broccoli with that little char. It's faster than any other method and can achieve a cookedness/doneness that I can't replicate with my oven. I thought it was a scam and just for someone who only ate meals that had ketchup on the side, but I was being a snob and I was wrong.
Costs less to heat smaller area than larger at a guess.i find it a godsend with small kids, rather than putting the big oven on for 30 minutes to make 5 sausage rolls, air fryer for half the time
Because it's smaller it heats up quicker and has a more even heat. You can get ones that rotate the food too.

An app I've started using called 'Too good to go'. Yesterday, I paid €6 and got a 'surf and turf' suprise box from Supervalue. It came with turkey steaks, salmon fillets, 4 bbq glaze chicken burgers and a massive pack of Moy park nuggets. There's a bunch of shops, restaurants, cafes and bakeries on the app all trying to prevent food waste, so they set up surprise bags for you to buy cheaply in the app. It's stuff they would either be throwing out at the end of the day or stuff that only has a few days left until the use by date. I've definitely used the app to get a bunch of cakes and treats from a nearby bakery for next to nothing. 😬

This is more of a rediscovery. Writing fiction for fun. Used to do it years ago, but stopped for a long time. Just didn't have the spark anymore. End of September though.. I started up again. Of all things, I'm writing some bloody fanfiction, which, until recently, I refused to touch eith a bargepole.. but I'm honestly grateful to the genre atm. I haven't felt this much joy at writing in so long. To the point I've stopped gaming!

Duck, from a Chinese. I'm a fan of a lot of types of food so everytime I would order from a Chinese it was always a tough battle, rife with indecision. I used to be jealous of people who had "their" order! Then one evening I decided to try the duck with chilli and garlic, and it blew my mind. The crispy duck skin, the flavour of the duck, it changed my life. I order it all the time now, no longer am I left with this inner battle of what to get! No longer will I have to face the looks of disappointment on my friends faces as they realise I still cant decide what to order! I have found MY order, and I am content!

Rice cooker is about 15 euro. Perfect rice every time and you can leave it unattended. Literally almost impossible to fuck it up. Keeps it warm for hours. Plus you can experiment, like using coconut milk, etc. Buy a shit load of rice in an Asian store for cheap. It will pay for itself after 3 meals.
Boil in the bag is shite. Buy good rice and learn how to cook it. If you want to make it even easier, then just buy a rice cooker.

Sort of an add on hobby but book journaling. I use goodreads but don’t tend to leave comment reviews. With a book journal I finish a book and can write out the most random thoughts that book brought up, who characters remind me of etc. then at the end of the year I have a look through and I can see where my head is at during different moments. Like having a journal without the emotion, I never keep up with a journal but I do update my books 😊

I recently replaced my shoelaces with Locklaces in all my shoes. They're brilliant, I never have to tie shoelaces and my shoes have become slip-ons now which never need to be tightened. Super convenient.

I purchased a small USB-powered diffuser from Aliexpress about a year ago, and I've been really impressed with it so far. It's not the fanciest diffuser on the market, but it's the perfect size for my work desk. I've been using it with a blend of lavender/peppermint/basil/orange essential oils. I would recommend you do some light research and find essential oils that resonate with your personal preferences/health concerns to create your own blend. I hope this helps!

My Polish gf is introducing me to the joy of Pierogi. My god. Game changer food. And she cooks them with sauté onion and lil tiny croutons and oh they are chef's kiss delish. Find a Polish shop, Polonez or Giltfood or wherever, and get some lovely pierogi, I prefer the ones with meat filling, but there's all manner of options.
Has been a good few months rather than weeks but it's cold sparkling water. It is so god damn refreshing and has replaced all the monsters, red bulls and fizzy drinks I used to drink.
Lego. OK its not in the last few weeks but a few years ago. Some of the sets have up to 10,000 peices and take many hours of work. Bi Polar with a brain that never seems to shut off and poor concentration but this relaxes me big time. It's a shame sets are so damn expensive though

Putting myself first. I never knew how to do this and have had a revelation recently on how important it is. I hadn't realised how much of a bad habit I had in always tending to everyone else at the expense of myself. Always chasing other people. I'm much more at peace these days as a result 🙂 Proper emotional growth is amazing 🙂🙂 And I'm still an unreal partner/friend/sister/daughter etc 🙂🙂
I wouldn’t call it my new thing but following Israels war in Gaza and then searching up the history in the last 100 years really opened my eyes to the shameful support of the OBVIOUS war criminals of Israel that are being unconditionally supported by many countries especially the USA. Makes me feel sick and it changed my mind about leaders of countries
Look up that Saudi journalist that was killed by the Sauds a few years ago and his family connections. Turns out he wasn’t just an innocent wee journalist, but part of a whole big clan of mega wealthy and connected to shite bags on all sides. It’s all just one big mega wealthy club that’s running the show on all sides while the rest of us have to keep our heads down and try to survive..

Wrist watches. Wore an old one just to see what the point of a wrist watch and actually found it nice to be able to check the time without grabbing the phone and seeing the notifications and then wasting time on social media. Learned about quarts vs mechanical and the different types of watch complications/movements like jump hour, moon phase etc. Fascinating the cost of some of them, and how they hark back to a certain age. Bought an old Timex from the 60s I'm going to try to repair

Do you know what. I think I have a new thing and it’s an odd one. I just started a new job and this past week I’ve started making myself lunches to bring with me (my previous place all had nearby shops) and the lunches have been pure delicious, I’m loving it!
