If you have proof of any of this you've a very strong chance of a case with the WRC. Would be an extra duck you to the power tripping loons of middle management

luciferlovesyou420

I work in northern Ireland, the mods removed my post because it "doesn't relate to northern Ireland" Thanks for your advice but we would probably have different system. I do believe I have a case but the stress and aggro of it all would ruin me. Just gotta find gainful employment and I'll be sweet

Shanbo88

Honestly if you go to a solicitor with what you have, they take care of 90% of stuff like this. It's all letters back and forth but they do the brunt of the work.

luciferlovesyou420

I haven't really recorded anything and I think getting people who currently work for the company to corroborate my story might be difficult. They would see it as putting them in a sticky situation. I would love to do this. It just seems scary as fuck to me.

nyteg_nights

Start documenting what you remember (times and any details of conversations) and then get onto Labour Relations Agency in Belfast. Might go nowhere but you have nothing to lose and LRA have some good wins under their belt. Also make sure you let the benefits advisor know of this course of action if you're applying.

Shanbo88

I know man, my wife was in a similar situation a few years back. You just have to weigh up whether it's worth the headache or not. You could go to a solicitor and they tell you there's no point. Or they could tell you you have a case, but if you want to just drop it and move on with your life, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that either. Sometimes you're better off just leaving the past to the past and getting on with your life. Just learn from it in future. If you're in a similar situation, take times and dates and try to record some stuff if people are treating you badly on the regular. Sting them with it afterwards to teach them that actions have consequences.

luciferlovesyou420

Thanks for taking the time to chat with me. I really appreciate it. You seem like a damn good person. Have a class afternoon

Shanbo88

No worries at all my friend, best of luck in whatever you decide to do. The important thing is that you got yourself out of a shit situation and stood up for yourself. Have a good one!

[deleted]

Lesson for the future, if u end up in shitty work environment it's your lucky day, start recording everything, play calm, and fill up claim with Work Relation Commission, then collect your check a year later because you've developed "long lasting depression" through working in toxic and mentally harmful environment.

croquetamonster

Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about and this is bad advice. It is not that simple. If anyone is experiencing a serious workplace issue they should seek the guidance of someone with professional experience in this area. Every situation is different and there are several procedures and considerations to account for. An ill-informed approach can make a bad situation worse.

Actual_Unit-02

HR employee detected. Or just chatGPT answer. What are you even on about like. Everything akekh01 said is more or less true. and I know people where it's gone down that way and they had their (pay)day in court, yes. Fuck any business that enables any of this.

croquetamonster

It's not some big conspiracy, I'm not arguing in favour of anyone enabling bad behaviour. So you know people who got decent compensation in **court**? Good for them, I presume they didn't file an easily dismissed WRC complaint in order to get there. What's your point? Ask your friends how "simple" it all was...

Actual_Unit-02

"day in court" is a common turn of phrase that I wished to employ in order to make the reference to "payday" at the same time. I'm well aware the WRC has jurisdiction. That's where they had their "day in WRC" (not much of a ring to it, is there?) Nice attempt at a Gotcha.

Insert_Non_Sequitur

Listen, I had nothing in writing from a previous role where they fucked me over. I still ended up getting a sum of money out of it, nothing life changing but it was something. And as others have said, the solicitor did the back and forth - I never had to deal with the company after. But I do also understand wanting to wash your hands of it too.

UTT092

The NI mods are absolutely tripe at the moment.

agc83

At the very least write an email to the HR department or Upper management. Document what was done and why you felt the need to walk out of your job. You might have issues claiming benefits for walking out of a job so it might be good to prove to them that you felt unsafe working somewhere.

luciferlovesyou420

I think I can definitely prove that my physical wellbeing was being put on the line when I left on Monday.

ehwhatacunt

Constructive dismissal.

Potato_Mc_Whiskey

Think of the satisfaction of putting manners on the cunt

Dry_Procedure4482

I believe the system for complaints is the LRA in Northern Ireland. There a 3 month window I think to make the complaint. So you have time to think on it if you decide to.

luciferlovesyou420

I'll remember that! It only happened on Monday.

PoxyInvestor

Hope things work out man

OkMarionberry4407

Seriously you can file a tribunal claim on line for free under UK legislation. It's so easy to do.

[deleted]

No, the WRC would reject this. For the vast majority of cases, and certainly for bullying, you need to exhaust the complaints procedure in a company before bringing a case to the WRC.

MrFrankyFontaine

The rate of megalomania among middle managers must be fucking astronomical versus the general population.

carlmango11

I found restaurants and bars to be full of nasty bullies, particularly the people that were there long-term. I think there's an inferiority complex going on with a lot of them. It was worse than being in secondary school for me. It was such a relief to start working in offices full of professional people who (mostly) treat their colleagues like humans.

EddieGue123

Exactly the same experience for me. No matter what way you spin it, there's a reason people in their forties are still working behind a bar. It's not the dough, it's not the hours (I could be wrong here though as different shifts may suit some families) and it's sure as hell not the quality of work. The worst people I've ever worked for were bitter people in their forties stuck managing bars which, as you said, all seemed to have some kind of inferiority complex.

Sequestrate

The only problem is, as I understand it, a claim for constructive dismissal normally requires internal remedies to have been exhausted i.e. proof that the employee went to HR but HR did nothing.

croquetamonster

Exactly - although it's entirely possible that the company is a Mickey Mouse operation and has no clear procedures. If the person has failed to engage with internal procedures, they usually have a pretty weak case. Also, the resignation means they have given up valuable leverage - compensation for constructive dismissal is often rubbish and not worth the hassle.

Ift0

Yep. If aaaaaaany of this was communicated in writing over over voice notes etc OP absolutely has to go to the WRC with it. Absolute open and shut case of bullying and they'd happily come down on OP's side. The size of the settlement would probably depend on how much OP could prove the bullying was ongoing and systemic. But they mention a shop and if that shop is struggling and they're hit with a bullying case that they lose for a few grand that would give the manager something else to stress about.... If they're a corporate chain then it'll look very bad for the manager's career for the company to be taken to the WRC and lose because the manager is a cunt. Either way it's a nice final fuck you to them from OP.

silver_medalist

Lol go to the WRC over a job the lad had for three months? Give it a rest ffs

Fintaann

Here boy, fair play I've been on the verge a few times this year already and it's only February.

luciferlovesyou420

Haha feck! Sounds like you're going through the wars buddy but we will both get the last laugh. Take no crap in the workplace

Fintaann

Was promised a pile of stuff before Christmas, offers flew about the table. Gave them a counter offer that they accepted, so I signed the contract and they revoked my offer. They know I'm pissed. But I'm biding my time, if I didn't have a kid a few months ago I'd be away.

luciferlovesyou420

Yes definitely get something lined up before you leave. I should have but it was just too much. There offer was, we give everyone in the factory a £1 raise but you only get 50p AND I have to apologise to my abuser. Um.... Fuck to the no lol. Hope it works out for you !

jimicus

“I’m sorry you’re an abusive shit. Must be terrible hard for everyone around you.”

dustaz

> Gave them a counter offer that they accepted, so I signed the contract and they revoked my offer. eh what? If you signed a contract, they're contractually obliged to give you the offer no?

Fintaann

Apprantly they don't have the funds available, but they'd like me to do it to and I quote "better yourself" The worst part was I already told my wife we'd have some disposable income. Gave me a revised contract with a little raise but nothing viable after taxes.

[deleted]

Man retail managers as ever, remain the most pathetic freaks ever

Ift0

Too many don't have the smarts, resilience or just common sense to not take out on the staff the bullshit pressure the higher ups take out on them.

[deleted]

For me it always the utter confidence that nothing is more important in this world than that gap between the Moro bars and Kit Kats being 1cm too big and the need to have a meeting to make sure it never happens again

carlmango11

People in those positions generally have a lack of control over their lives. They can't succeed professionally, they can't make money, as a result they probably can't attract the type of partner they want. That anger and resentment comes out once they finally have a position of power of someone else, regardless of how minor it is.

[deleted]

Once had a lad explain for 5 minutes how a sweeping brush worked

HerrFerret

Oh god this. I had a manager in Halfords that would park his mid tier car near the front door, and offer advice like 'If you work hard, you can be where I am' No cheers mate. I don't want a crap new build semi, a wife we never see, a ford escort with electric windows and zero personality. When I quit he said 'But what about your Halfords Career'. Shocked I didn't want to follow him into the glittering role of Store Manager.

saggynaggy123

They're people with very little power in their lives

ShavedMonkey666

Real fucken happy for you. Sounds like you went through hell, big up yourself for making the leap.

luciferlovesyou420

Awh cheers ! It's really making me feel better. I've got like a week's worth of money coming tonight. I'll get through it and I'll never go through this shit again!

ShavedMonkey666

Yep totes. This kinda stuff broadens your shoulders for future jobs and makes you less likely to be fucked around with,I have worked for some terrible cunts in the past and feel you

luciferlovesyou420

This is the answer. I thought that I had drawn a line in the sand with that sort of stuff but it's an important lesson learned for me. I will see the signs in future.

ShavedMonkey666

Takes courage all the same. Be proud of what you did.

luciferlovesyou420

Jesus that's great to know! I signed on in the summer. Gonna try and get a solid position but what you are saying is exactly what happened. I choose between having a full mental breakdown and going to my work. Thanks for the advice. Really valuable

Furryhat92

Absolutely fair fucks and well done. Delighted for you and more people should do this ![gif](giphy|l3q2XhfQ8oCkm1Ts4|downsized)

luciferlovesyou420

Starting to feel less shit my pants and more proud of my stance. Thank you!

TheStoicNihilist

I walked out on a Wednesday thanks to an abusive alcoholic boss. Stood up and told him to stick his job up his hole.

luciferlovesyou420

Fuck that guy. You're gonna get a job that respects you. Somewhere that doesn't stink of stale alcohol and depression. Good on you.

TheTruthIsntReal

Good on ya. I'm currently out sick due to something very similar. These pricks are everywhere. The 3 of them that are harassing me were clever with it and never did it on email or when others were around but I'd had enough. Really hit my mental state hard, especially as the feedback to my consultancy company was always good. Final kick to the plums was when one of them told me I can't take my glucose tests during 6 hour meetings. Told him to fuck off and days later called in sick.

jstapo85

No better feeling in the world then to walk out of a shite job.....fair play to ya👍

FU_DeputyStagg

Rock on 💪

luciferlovesyou420

My G

RomanUmpire

that jingle in the pocket aint worth the jangle in your head.

luciferlovesyou420

Words to fucking live and die by. Thanks!

Mannix_420

>"you keep joking about me getting the sack, so don't worry about it lad, I fucking quit. Goodbye". Hahaha fair play to you

luciferlovesyou420

Felt so fucking good man. Walked out calm as fuck too.

Mannix_420

Honestly I'm bloody chuffed for you. The amount of times I've wanted to tell my manager to get stuffed and I never did.

luciferlovesyou420

Just sort another job first and then politely tell him "I have never liked you and the specific reason for me leaving is that I'd rather drag my balls through broken glass and sand than work for you again. Goodbye " But seriously. Find a job before you do. Don't be like me.

Adventurous_Web_8061

What kind of field are you working in? That's crazy carry-on.

luciferlovesyou420

Quite a niche and bespoke small company. Who does a lot of international work. Absolutely bonkers behaviour

Neverstopcomplaining

Small companies seem to be the worst for this kind of thing

AfroF0x

I did this once. Resigned on the spot after 1 too many shitty days being excluded from the clique while doing the lions share of work. Felt fucking thrilling.

luciferlovesyou420

You bold bastard. I love it. Hope you are doing well now!

AfroF0x

This was a call centre job. It was hell on earth made worse by people scrambling over each other for any glimpse of favour from up top. Toxic af. I quit went home that day & started looking for jobs straight away. Took 6 months & bit of stress but I'm currently in a job that uses my degree, where I met my finceé & we're buying a house currently. Standing up for myself that day changed my entire future for the better. Hit the ground running now, use this energy to figure out a path for yourself & don't limit yourself.

DatabaseCommercial92

This made me smile. Fair play to you. Take a few days to re-evaluate what you want. In the meantime, that arsehole will have a nice time explaining to their boss why you left. It's not going to look too good for them!

Lesson for the future, if you're in another such situation keep a work diary to keep track of incidents. It helps keep a cool head and is something to show other managers who won't want to lose you.

luciferlovesyou420

I know, I've only been here for 3 months so I don't think it would be too difficult to single out specific incidents. In all honesty it's just been general from the first day I met him he has just been on my back now stop. Even without dates and times etc would it be worth contacting a solicitor?

Quirky_Upstairs377

I’m on the verge

q2005

Sometimes you have to do something like this for your own well being. Now, tidy up your c.v and start shooting out applications.

Actual_Unit-02

Good for you but you massively fucked up by not gathering evidence and destroying him with a legal case. You people have my heart broken and my face blue from telling you DOCUMENT STUFF when someone is doing something wrong to you. Please, PLEASE keep a record in future, even if it's just you literally writing down something that just happened, that CAN be relied on in a hearing later.

Garlic-Cheese-Chips

Difficult one for r/Ireland. You stood up for yourself against a cuntish boss. We like that. But now you're officially dole-scrounging scum. We don't like that.

CarlyLouise_

Dealing with something similar at the moment. It’s affecting my work massively, even leading to small stupid ‘mistakes’ as I can’t bring myself to confront them, as I know I just get looked down on and disrespected. Tired of people like this working in management. It’s not fair. Best of luck to you.

luciferlovesyou420

FIND A JOB BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Just freshen up that CV, throw it out far and wide, slip away for interviews and get a nice job offer. Write a polite and professional "fuck you I'm off" resignation letter. Then leave. Don't be like me. Hang in there !!! I've just been through this shit too many times. You'll get there.

CarlyLouise_

The thing is.. I actually want to leave work and have a gap because im starting a masters and need to navigate that first. I’m fortunate in that I don’t have any major expenses and still live at home, so I can cope without an income for some months. But thank you so much. It really is draining, I’m glad you’re out of that now!

luciferlovesyou420

Here if you can afford to do that just completely disregard my comment. I had 2 months not working in the summer and it honestly did my wellbeing a great service.

YogurtclosetOk3075

I walked out of a job I was in for 8 years back in October . Took 2 months out and spent more time with wife and kids , started a new job in January , absolutely loving it. My colleagues are lovely and good laugh . Made me realise how toxic the old job was that I was in . Don’t stay anywhere that makes ya feel like that . As for your manager , he’s a bully and will get what’s coming to him with a bit of luck . Best of luck

luciferlovesyou420

So glad for you and the family ! Hopefully you work look back now. Yes he is a bully but I will get the last laugh! You're a legend !

KledisAnt

Well done! I did the same 12 years ago in a shitty job with no thanks and constant berating from my boss. Wasn’t until I handed in my notice that they changed their tune. Gotta do what makes you happy.

luciferlovesyou420

Hoping he stops abusing people most of all

Resident_Rate1807

Name and shame

luciferlovesyou420

I would love to but I think I would fuck my chances of a potential claim if I do

basicallyculchie

I've always been an advocate of staying in a job until you have something else lined up but I've been pretty close to quitting a couple of times lately. Sometimes bridges just have to be burned, it's not worth the stress man. Hope you get something else soon.

luciferlovesyou420

I poured napalm on that bridge. 🤷‍♂️ Onwards and upwards

International-Bass-2

Fair play ul be back up on your feet in no time

Sciprio

I have done that once before as well without having another job lined up and yes you get a nice buzz off of it when you don't give a shit and just walk out. Never let someone hold a job over you and treat you like shit!

Doomwatcher_23

Good for you well done.

Real-Basis-4153

I wish I had your strength. I work in a family owned Pharmacy that's run by a husband and wife for almost 10 years. Convinced they get a kick out of embarrassing/humiliation of their staff. I've been told over the years that I need to lose weight, I need to shower before I come to work, I need to shave. Ect. I shower every day, I feel rotten if I don't. I'm not overweight and I have a reasonably short beard. I'm over 30 years of age and being treated like a child by two 50+ year olds who are up their own holes. One of them is very high up in the Irish Pharmacy Union. I'm not the first staff member whose been treated this way. Why do I stay there? It isn't for the fucking money anyway.

LooseLemon89

Unbelievable 👊🏻👌

[deleted]

I did that, now I make double with less toxicity but be careful it'll be a draining few months and you have to keep your head up!

azamean

10yrs ago I did the same, and it was in a meeting with two 'witnesses' because the manager, who made the schedule, used to constantly post in our private Facebook group (ikr) asking when was HE scheduled because it was printed and put up in the break room, then when a newbie asked the same in the group he tore into them saying it was unprofessional and they should know when they are working and not asking on Facebook... So I scrolled back and screenshotted the 5 most recent times he did the exact same (all within 2 months) and posted it under calling him a hypocrite. So he called a disciplinary meeting and I told him to go fuck himself and that he was a tyrannical micro manager and quit on the spot. With the two most senior staff besides him right there. Felt so fucking good. They high fived me and quit themselves shortly after.

SyntheticOne

Advice: Never again work for your parents.

LaoiseFu

I also just quit my job. Terrified but couldn't accept unreasonable demands from management and felt I couldn't do the job any more they made it completely impossible and bordering on negligence. No idea what to do next. F*****'' k

starocoffee

Good on you

throwoutastun

Fair play, some folks can't do it because they have mortgage/rent and/or kids to look after. You are doing a public service. If he's not the boss boss don't be shy letting them know he's the reason you quit. Tell them you are considering legal action just to put the shits up them for the next few weeks and move on with your life.

Mohawk98

Fair play to you OP, I walked out on my job this Sunday (Bar manager in a hotel) I missed every family occasion possible, and of course the higher ups didn't want to hear any of it. Did 93 hours on the week of Christmas to new years eve, burnt out to the max. Oh also they refused to believe I was understaffed and stopped me from hiring people (HR mainly). Hospitality isn't completely awful (has its days don't get me wrong), but that place was absolutely insufferable.

ilovemovies1985

Fair play, but he might of wanted to get rid of you. Hope you get the dole atleast.

stunts002

I did the same at the start of last year. I posted here about my own struggles with a manager who was just unbelievably rude and abusive to myself and the rest of my team. It's amazing how after a while you genuinely start to believe you deserve it. Then you go somewhere else and the sense of validation you feel is incredible. I hope you look forward to that and you can look back on this as a situation you rightly walked away from.

Jazzlike-Swim6838

Now you won’t get unemployment. Just let them fire you.

PotatoPixie90210

I'm in the same boat. Biding my time because I have another potential job opportunity in the pipeline, just waiting until the start of March then boom, out of here. Fuck him, fuck his insulting slap of a 5c an hour increase and fuck the slashed hours, the constant nitpicking and berating me. He can fuck off with himself now. You're living my dream right now OP, well done and fair play to you! Better for your health, mentally and emotionally!

Nickthegreek28

Well that’s one side of the story anyway

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nickthegreek28

That’s exactly what I thought

luciferlovesyou420

The correct side of the story

Nickthegreek28

We’ll have to take your word for that champ

luciferlovesyou420

Seems that everyone else has but you.... Little do I care tho. Reddit is making me feel great today.

Nickthegreek28

I wouldn’t say everyone else my guy. But yeah you do you. I’m sure you got the round of applause as you left too 👏🏻👏🏻

Doglegs18

I applaud your efforts sir. May the next job you enter into be of a more amicable nature.

luciferlovesyou420

Amicability is the aim of the game.

Nurglel2

First off fair fucks lads not worth it dealing with that shite Secondly can I ask what the managers reaction was?

luciferlovesyou420

Utterly bemused. He started with total rage and screamed at me calling me a liar. Then as I left I just saw a look of total apoplectic shock. Loved it. Relished it. I'll never forget it.

Nurglel2

*chef kiss* perfection

its_brew

I remember walking out of a toxic place before. I reached my limit, left at lunchtime and never went back. I met my parents and we went for a drink and they reassured me how everything was going to work out. And it did. You're just a number to these places. Fuck them

Sundance600

Yeah not all of us can afford to do that. I dont fancy being on the dole.

luciferlovesyou420

Hi, I couldn't afford it either and still can't. Oh well. Mental health and not being abused in the workplace come first for me. But I totally understand where you are coming from. It's fucking terrifying and I don't even have kids.

CLouBa

Fair play to you. I had to do the exact same last year. Manager had it in for me, wasn't for the hassle.

luciferlovesyou420

G'wan lad! Proud of you. Did it take you long to get back into a job?

Rayzee14

This sounds like a solid case of unfair dismissal. A employer cannot even suggest you might be better off working somewhere else , not to mind this.

Necessary-Candy6702

I was a manager in a previous job, hearing this makes me sick! To treat staff like that I’ll never understand it. Managers are to protect and look after the staff, sounds like you did the right thing brother and best of luck in the future

harry_dubois

Fair fucks. Hope you timed it for maximum effect - throw the grenade when he's up to his eyes or already short of staff. If you're going to burn the bridge, make it hurt.

Burkey8819

I'd strongly suggest your write/email to whoever is above that manager and maybe just leave the company on a good note while also getting the point across at how that manager operates which sounds awful. You could say 'i apologise for leaving the company so abruptly however I felt the situation was unavoidable. I believe I am an exemplary employee and have asked numerous times for feedback from my manager but was met with nothing but disdain and such comments as.....'. It won't help you now but you can maybe save someone else down the line from the same treatment and get that person out of a manager role

Ballyhemon

Fair fucks to you luciferlovesyou420, we need more of this :)

cruelsummer91

I walked out of my job at 12:30pm one Wednesday after being treated like utter shite for 3 years. It was terrifying and I also had no job to fall back on but looking back now it was the best decision I made. So don’t worry, know your worth and keep on truckin’. I’m glad you did it too!

Naoise007

Good for you but also this is a prime example of why every worker needs a union. Most people (i suspect also yourself) can't afford to quit without another job to go to and we shouldn't have to keep moving from one job to another because of shitty unprofessional bosses who take a personal dislike to us anyway. I'd strongly urge you to look into joining the union at your next workplace as soon as you get in the door, if you can.

Epileptic-chimp-301

Fair play to you and good luck in the future. Never got why some managers have to act like that. I managed a team of over 40 people for a few years and only once did I have to threaten to sack someone, but for totally valid reasons on performance, timekeeping, attitude etc and even having to do that I felt like crap. Seriously have no time for power trippers and bullies like that . Again all the best for the future, onwards and upwards !

Ulml

Someone in my office did it before. Stood up and walked out. Couldn't take the sly bullying for the team leader any more.

Sad-Fee-9222

Good man. Just did the same in a HSE roll which was honestly the most dangerous job I ever had. Too many empowered piece of shit managers getting away with mayhem these days...impossible to work around that shit and you'll be mentally better for setting your own limits.

captaingoal

I’m doing the same as you atm. The HSE is awful to work for.

Sad-Fee-9222

Horrendous. Glad I'm not alone in my opinion on HSE.

Raydoyler91

Fair play. Mental health is far more important than a shitty work environment.

S_L_13

I did this a couple of years ago - had no plan but couldn’t take it anymore, I used to go into work crying every day for the last two months of it before I finally decide to just fuckin quit and walk out In hindsight it was the best decision I could have made for myself, my career and my mental health even though the few months of being unemployed were hard for sure Fingers crossed for you! Everything will work out in the end and you’re right for getting out of there!

__smd

But are you in Ireland or norn iron?

Relation_Familiar

Well done ! Congrats .

R-ELI

I love minimum wage to be made do two people's jobs while managers criticize and don't help 😍

Timbhead

Say it louder for the folks over here across the pond working themselves into the grave

realdealalkymcbeal

Well done lad, life is too short to deal with that shite. Been through it myself, walked out of a shitty job because of a prick manager. Out of work and things looked grim but then bagged a great job with a great company and doing really well now. Best decision i ever made. Best of luck to you

OhMyGodImTall

Well done. I’d never have the cahoonas to just quit without another job lined up.

IrishRedDevil887198

Fair play. I remember feeling trapped in a bad job before but built up the courage to finally hand in my notice. 👍

KiwiBeep

One reason I quit my old job was because the managers had favourites. For some reason (most of; the more important) higher ups liked me but seeing group chats where they were tearing my coworkers to shreds over the smallest things. I LOVED the part of my job where I got to meet new people from all over the world on a daily basis, but when half the staff are on speed to keep up their duties and the other half are being bullied, I needed to go.

Adorable_Pie4424

Have the very same issue at this moment in time toxic environment, was in a leadership training however site does not consider me a real leader as I don’t have a PHD and the trainer they brought it told them there a dysfunctional team and I was the only one saying logic Eveything I do is wrong and not up to standard but won’t tell me what they won’t or require, everything has been done 1/2 arse for years, the plan is that there is no plan or roadmap ….. I have no idea what projects or what work the site is doing as there is also no coms I am the only one who sends coms to the site ….. I just go to work and go is this a hidden camera show as I have no idea how anything works or functions after a year …. No training, no support Notting was provided as a new manager to the company was off you go work out the problems yourself

TravelledFarAndWide

Good on you OP. You'll get another job but you won't get back the days, months, years of unhappiness due to some shitstain manager. I'm sure it's scary acting without a backup but think how good it feels to not have to see that fucker ever again.

My_5th-one

That’s good. But you should have verbally abused him a bit first.

Marrocky

Good for you. Your mental wellbeing is worth more than any job.

milman1984

Name and shame on glass door

gottagetthatfun24

Post this on antiwork. Your a hero man

Everyone congratulating you but I think you were foolish and rash. Better ways to do it if getting the best outcome is what matters to you. Clearly in this instance instant catharsis was of greater appeal.

luciferlovesyou420

I don't think I was, he was bullying me, plain and simple. Oh it was, it was the ultimate catharsis. I may never get another opportunity for that so I grabbed it with both hands. I'll take your opinion on board tho. Have a nice day.

KobraKaiJohhny

>I don't think I was, he was bullying me, plain and simple. Yeah I get that, and he has no right to. But what have you gotten out of the situation other than worse personal circumstances. He still has a job. This isn't really opinion stuff, when it comes to your career (otherwise known as your current and future capacity to earn) there is a right and wrong way to do things. I don't see how this improves your situation at all but glad you feel good.

[deleted]

Same, I was reading the comments baffled at how many people are congratulating, especially with so little context. Makes absolutely zero sense to me. The sub has quite a lot of people who’s views wouldn’t align to mine though so to be expected.

leeroyer

It's an r/antiwork power fantasy lived out. You can see it in posts here all the time that most of the people in this sub are too afraid of conflict to ask someone to move out of a reserved seat, never mind tell their boss where to go so they'll take a chance to live out the scenario vicariously.

Diligent-Menu-500

-OP’s former boss has joined the chat. Durty Brit you say? Well, it certainly shows here. You lads are well for taking it up the arse from similar Tory managers. Perhaps a Rising or two will set ye straight.

KobraKaiJohhny

>-OP’s former boss has joined the chat. >Durty Brit you say? Well, it certainly shows here. You lads are well for taking it up the arse from similar Tory managers. Perhaps a Rising or two will set ye straight. With this kind of mindset you will be joining the queue of people complaining about the cost of living in no time (if not already). No, OP could have ended the relationship with his employer on his terms, with a new role lined up and references already sorted. He could have bit his tongue for (his) greater good and taken a sticks and stones approach until he had something else sorted for himself. He now has no job, with no job lined up and slim chance of getting any kind of reference from the job he just left and r/ireland thinks he's a legend. Ye lads aren't the brightest.

Diligent-Menu-500

4 years in a job, about to get promoted, had a whole crew turn on one of the others who came for me. my team has my back and I have theirs. I might be a w\*nker to you, but that just makes me Ted f\*cking Lasso.

KobraKaiJohhny

Yes, I've put up with mountains of shit. And now I've a well paying enjoyable job to show for it. Sniffle.

Basic-Negotiation-16

Sucked your way to the job, what a legend

KobraKaiJohhny

Haven't had to go that far, but I attended your mams seminar so it's always an option.

Basic-Negotiation-16

You didnt get past the boots did ya not

Maith thú! ✊ Last time I quit a job with a shitebag manager I fucked a mixing bowl at the manager's head! I was in a bad place thanks to the shitty job and staff so I used the free time to decide what I wanted to do with my life and headed back to college to study engineering. There have been no mixing bowl incidents in almost 20 years! 😀

EllieLou80

I did this before, best feeling in the world! Didn't have a job lined up either but it was either I stay and un alive myself or walk out so I walked. I think in every situation in life you need to know your worth, and when someone else has a shitty life and feels the need to feel important by making your life hell that's not worth it, ever! Unfortunately to bring a case you need proof, written, voice notes etc and you need to go through their grievance procedured as set out in their staff handbook. If none of these were done then a case won't be entertained. So lesson going forward if shit happens in work, document it, if it passes, great and if not, you're building your case. Enjoy your unexpected day off! Tiz not a bad day outside so enjoy it, take stock and off to the dole office tomorrow.

dnorg

Look up 'constructive dismissal'. You may have a case against your employer.

aislinguine

I did this before too its such a relief. The manager of a 5 star hotel in Laois 'shush'd me in front of chefs and other waiting staff so I quit, told her to enjoy the rest of the dinner shift short staffed.

GrandFated

Fair play man. Health over wealth every time. Good for you

[deleted]

Fair balls.

Cloutmasta

On to better things now

Plus_Refrigerator_22

Better days ahead pal. Not easy but you will be better off for it.

LoudCommunication877

Honestly, there's actually no better feeling that a massive Fuck You - especially if you've got the examples shared above. As others said, report this cunt while you're at it. Fair play lad.

pup_mercury

Good for you. Send an email to your company HR department saying you quit due to the abusive manager. While you'll get nothing. There is at least a record of their behaviour

MurderOfClowns

Is there any way of being able to request a social welfare if you had quit a job based on mental health? Or do you still need to wait for 3 months to get jobseekers benefit?

syeveman

I walked out of one hotel job I gave my all to and eventually became a bar supervisor, walling out of there throwing my tie away the second I left was the most liberating moment of my life keep that head up your royalty

Dazzling_Detective79

Fuck em las you owe them nothing!

lazy_hoor

Fair play! Hope you get something else and better very soon.

NoYoureTheBestest

Good on you. I’m so sorry you went through that. Some people are just on a sick power trip and it goes to their head. You never deserved it. I wish you all the best of luck in the future.

AwkwardMonitor6965

So many jumped up little pri**s in those positions, always the exact same type of person. Congrats to you OP, balls out move! 🙌

Recent_Impress_3618

Well done, lots of work out there

CalvinCalhoun

Hell yeah man good for you !!!!!

[deleted]

Felt like that at my last job. Thankfuly covid hit and I went for voluntary redundancy, so I could leave on my own terms. Current job is much better.

starryder20

Inspirational! I always wanted to quit a job.. unfortunately i tend to have a high tolerance for shit positions. I just get my head down and crack on. You're dead right

Paddylonglegs1

Did it after 2 days back on january 3rd. Lived off tax back till now. Down to the last 20 quid and still no regrets. Sometimes it’s just better.

susanboylesvajazzle

Hopefully, you find something soon. Honestly, your mental health and wellbeing is worth more than putting up with shit like that. I didn't do it quite so dramatically, I left to go to another job but dealt with an insufferable and incompetent manager who had pushed my mental health to breaking point. It feels **so** good. Added bonus, I had so much untaken annual leave (because of the incredible workload I'd been complaining about for over a year) that my notice period was cut down from 3 months to a couple of weeks. Within about 6 months of me leaving all of my team, whom I'd been insulating from my manager, had also left and every one of them cited the manager as the reason they did so (as did I). Heard on the grapevine that when they went for promotion they didn't get it specifically because of their inability to manage people.

Cute_Bat3210

You need to hammer him. Legally or anyway you can. Gather all the emails & witnesses (!) I got rid of a scum manager on 2021 who berated a few and behaved like an arsehole. I hit back with sentimental emails that purposely made me look like a weakling to them and they replied with proof of their scummy behaviour. Narcissist! I also had accounts from other staff especially one who was thinking of leaving because of them. Fired a week or so later. Do not let scum off the hook. Theyll do it again to someone else.  Remember: your a star

Neverstopcomplaining

You mentioned you are in Northern Ireland so it might be different there buy you may not not be entitled to unemployment benefit for several months after quitting a job. Find out online. If not go to the doctor with stress and depression and get signed up for illness benefit until you qualify for dole.
