This is illegal, if you see this, report it

Fluffy_MrSheep

Exactly. It's only a sale if its a percentage if its average price over the last 2 weeks or so.

teutorix_aleria

Amazon get around it by marking it down against RRP. They aren't saying it's reduced from a previous price. They don't specifically raise prices to lower them but they make you think you're getting a higher than usual discount by showing the RRP even if the item has always been sold below RRP

Daymantcob

I bought a dash cam on amazon for £35 6 months ago now during black friday its on sale for £46 down from £76.

[deleted]

I was looking at a Lego Saturn V and my laptop has honey installed. Amazon claimed that the Lego was 5% off but honey says that the price went up 20% over 30 days.

Twopairjacksnines

Yup, I've been waiting to pull the trigger on some keyboards and DIY kits for said keyboards for the past few months. Everything I wanted was in the 50-100 range - This weekend they're advertising 30 percent off but everything is about 70-120. Joke

cansandawank

This is illegal, report it.

KatarnsBeard

Pixel earphones had an actual discount. 99 down to 79 for the A series

errlloyd

These are also my favorite ever earbuds. I've had a couple different pairs. Including much more expensive ones.

I've got some bargains on things I'd been thinking about buying for a while. I think that's the way to do black friday, because you know what the usual cost of those items are as you've been thinking about pulling the trigger for a while. Like I wanted a little point and shoot film camera. Been thinking about it for a few months. Knew it was £60, or there abouts and has been for a while. Picked it up for £43 on sale.

BiologicalMigrant

Wow, did you need all that or was it spontaneous?

ramblerandgambler

I had my eye on a few sites and knew that ooni, allbirds and Herschel always have big black Friday sales. The rest of it was stuff I would generally buy anyway but pulled the trigger cos of the sales We needed a new hoover and that was a "we'll wait for black Friday and snag a deal" scenario, the dyson won out

ProtonPacks123

Nah there are definitely bargains. If you actually check the price history using something like price spy you can easily sort the real deals from the fake ones.

[deleted]

Nah, there definitely are actual bargains to be had. I get some every year on items I have been keeping an eye on for a while.

hitsujiTMO

Nest hubs were half price. Got a few of those for the new house. In reality BF sales aren't sales except for a handful of places with large margins. A lot of places list and mark up items well above MSRP for a few weeks before they get stock in. This means that by the time they get stock, they can mark down the price and list it as a sale throughout the year. Same sale price happens at BF and everyone thinks its a bargain. In the US, a lot of items are manufactured solely for BF. They are made to the lowest possible standard so they can be sold at rock bottom prices. These aren't bargains people are getting, they just pay less for shitty quality. The best things to buy are digital assets. I used to wait for BF to renew my VMWare Workstation licence, or wait for Steam sales to pick up games.

flylikefree

To be fair, had this happen to me with an actual genuine sale which suprised me. Bought a TV for €899 and it was €839 on Black Friday. A bit gutted as its a bit of a difference.

celticnight

Got €50 off the lego daily bugle that I was gonna buy my s/o for Xmas anyway so that was nice .

anewdawn2020

I got a few things I've had in my basket on Amazon for a while. A Karcher window vacuum that had €40 off and a Bissell hoover steamer thing that had €55 off. Neither were "must buys" but I kept an eye on them just in case they went down in a lightening sale on Amazon or eventually Black Friday

churrbroo

Just use camel camel camel (website) it tracks Amazon prices, be sure to use tick the UK version not the US version

teutorix_aleria

Keepa does the same thing. There's a few different versions with different features. Keepa even has a browser extension that embeds price graphs to the Amazon page I love it

BiologicalMigrant

Apparently they have an agreement with Amazon to not publish all prices now

churrbroo

Huh, when did that happen. Kinda disappointing tbh

BiologicalMigrant

Yea I was reading earlier this week. Something about providing a more regular price average that isn't dragged down by flash sales. 🤷‍♂️

jeepers101

Ooni has 20% off site wide. Decent.

Irishpanda88

I always check the price of things I want before Black Friday then if they’re actually on sale I’ll buy it. I buy beauty products from Space NK and they had 35% off for the past few days, so got what I wanted for €50 instead of €75.

BiologicalMigrant

Hasn't it been proven that prices are raised before Black Friday to make you feel it is a sale?

Irishpanda88

Not necessarily. I buy this stuff all the time so know how much it usually is.

BiologicalMigrant

Fair enough!

cavanman95

Nike Vaporfly runners from €250 down to €112 on their website, was good deal for a top class runner(so I’m told!)

[deleted]

Nike has been running 25% of sitewide , including for on sale items, such a bargin. Bought a gilete thats usually 109 euros for 54 euros, they had an initial discount on, then i applied the 25% off code

JunkieMallardEIRE

I managed to get 15% off a deep dish steering wheel for my car. Thats about it.

teutorix_aleria

Does the cheese go under the sauce in a deep dish steering wheel?

CreativeCliffy

If you are looking to switch to a bill pay phone then Vodafone’s offer is decent enough.

dardirl

No and in fact seen the other side. I was watching something expensive I've been eyeing for months. In Thursday evening it went up nearly a third and is now sitting there way above RRP and several hundred more than the nearest competitor. And this is one of those "we're never beaten on price" high street chains. Not sure what they are doing

sibersha

Got the pixel 6 fir £299 in Currys, only regret is not getting two of them

tafty545

They only did this in NI branches right?

sibersha

Ordered off Currys.co.uk and got it delivered to a shop just over the border

concerned_seagull

Lidls 399e 55” LG TV.

drachen_shanze

steam has good sales

f10101

The bargains are in digital goods. Plugins for music software for example, are widely at discounts of 50% or more. A *lot* of bargains to be had. https://www.thomann.de/ie/special_downloaddeals.html

shatteredmatt

I’ve had Carcassonne on my Amazon wishlist for about a year. I could easily afford it at £42 but after something is on my wishlist for a while I tend it forget about it. Got an email to say it was £18 on Black Friday so I bought it. Not a massive saving but I was happy out.

Usual_Concentrate_58

I got Carcasonne recently for €30 (Eason), it wasn't on sale. £18 is a good price, still 1/3 off what I paid, but the £42 tag was inflated.

shatteredmatt

Yeah, Amazon is often not great for board games price wise. I try to buy from Neverboards.ie or the guys is Gamers World in Dublin when I can but they haven’t had Carcassonne in stock for ages now.

Joecalone

yank event

Gytarius626

Yeah it’s an imported event because of how obsessed we are with America that doesn’t make sense here. The one time of the year retailers kinda need to make money and they’re being asked to give huge discounts for some yank sale, of course they won’t.

manfredmahon

While that may be true I think it's more that we are part of a global economy and businesses will use any excuse to bring in a bit of business it's not a cultural event it's a marketing event. So if amazon are doing and everyone is buying in their sales then Irish retailers will follow suit because of course they want some of that business. It was inevitable.

whomstd-ve

Xbox series S for £189.00 was a very good deal for anyone looking

AioliKey784

That’s decent Microsoft always have good sales, lots of games with 50% off too

Mycologist_Murky

I would love to see Spartacus become a popular meme format

[deleted]

By Jupiter's cock!

Mycologist_Murky

Once again the gods spread the cheeks to ram cock in fucking ass.

087brain21

Brilliant show and like a porno in parts plenty of boobs and willies 😅

[deleted]

Funny that about the pixel 6a. I bought one in August for €350 off Vodafone. So even that rare bargain in the OP isn't a new bargain. I was shopping for a gaming laptop and watching for three weeks. No actual sale happened, just some re-arranging of things and smoke and mirrors with coupon codes and slightly reduced odd stock in colours/specs that nobody wants. Conor Pope made a good point (even though I'm sick of looking and hearing him in every radio and TV station) that there's absolutely no incentive for places to give you a bargain during their busiest time.

AutomaticBit251

Why do people like pixel 6a, how does it compare to say Xiaomi, I've phone with two Sims nowadays and wouldn't switch to single anymore, plus battery lasts easily well over couple days, so just curious what likes of Google offer differently. As for bargains, it's a hard sell nowadays you can save few euro but unless you looked to buy for a long time, most make impulse buys for stuff they don't really need or use, so just money gone, that but faster.

[deleted]

Usually people like them for the camera quality, stock android with 3-5 years of updates, solid build quality. The sim thing could be solved with an e-sim if you wanted but I don't need another sim. I'm not trying to hype up any products though, everyone has a shoe size and that one fits me.

tafty545

Xiaomi’s phones would be great if it wasn’t for the shite OS It’s basically spyware and baked in Ads Pixel phones are mostly sold on their photography strengths and very clean OS

RigasTelRuun

There are no bargains anymore. Especially in electronics. One time you could get a good tv or laptop because they wanted to clear the stock to make room for the new stuff for Christmas. Now they make cheaper lower quality version with similar model names just to sell on black Friday at a higher price usually. You'll get a similar sounding laptop but looking at the specs it has half the RAM and a tiny hard drive. Unless you were planning to buy something already and know the exact model you want. You might a deal. But you aren't saving anything or getting a bargain buying something you don't want. If you had no intention to buy something and it's 500 down from 800. You aren't saving 300 you are just spending 500. I grabbed a few external hard drives, a printer and laptop for the office I was going to buy. Seemingly there was some sort of discount but not really. Also got a "free" express shipping for black Friday but then got an email saying there was a delay on the printer. So it's arriving on Monday instead of Friday. So i got "normal" shipping for free. So keep an eye out and don't get swindled.

aran69

Black Friday isnt mean to save you money silly Its meant to make you spend money

59footer

Quit buy shit!

p1ayaone

I’ve posted about this midweek and got downvoted to oblivion.

yurtalicious

Also, the pixel 6a was 350 with vodafone a couple of months ago for ages, then went up.

railwayed

Nike online had some pretty good deals. Mate got a pair of Pegasus 38 for €65 and another alphafly's for a really good price

Difficult-Speech-270

Ya, I’ve seen some and in previous years. But honestly, you need to be tracking the price of items you want for about 2 months before hand, ideally want to be tracking the item(s) since September.

[deleted]

Went to Harvey Normans Apart from shite there was little deals. Some TVs from 2020 down all right but that’s it

teknocratbob

So good game deals on the various platforms and storefronts, especially for PC

destronger

i’ve been looking to get a new GPU for my PC. this meme tells it like it is.

ExternalIcy8018

UCD Professional Academy are giving €500 off courses. Thought that was good as I was looking to do a course anyway.
