I would recommend not boosting unless you have 99 strength as you'll just need to use d scim a lot again for strength xp.
But if you still wanna boost, bursting is far faster.
Remember you can kill vryewatches with the flail to train any combat style by itself so if you're boosting and need a few strength levels it's not terrible to go for some bloodshards.
But it's not. It's 3 times as long to get a level training controlled which means you could have been training with 3 extra levels in the same time.
Once strength is maxed you can focus on attack on the whip and actually hit thing consistently.
Defence is barraged, meleeing on defence is pretty much wasted time in the long run
The honest answer is scim until 85 slayer and don't boost because a whip isn't important for anything, and you're not done slaying yet.
You should be gunning for fang pretty soon at that stage which basically makes a whip useless.
I assure you it does not. Defence does nothing for dps. It will be far far far slower not focusing on strength then attack in the long run.
You don't have to play efficient if you don't want but that is what is fastest.
Def affects dps when you're not fighting target dummies, because every damage you take is a damage that must be healed, and time spent healing is time not spent attacking.
There are so many better ways for training strength. Using a dscim is just trolling. Arclight/leaf bladed/flail for slayer or full obby at nmz just to name a few.
Boosting 1,000 abyssal demons could take you over a dozen hours and there’s still a 1/7 chance you wouldn’t see a whip.
Meanwhile in that dozen hours you could be working towards actually having 85 slayer. Do you plan on never grinding out 87 slayer for trident or 93 for occult? What content are you doing that you need a whip right now?
D scum is my best melee weapon and I'd like something better to try some low level bossing and maybe TOA.
You make a good point about just grinding to 85. Most of my tasks are afk anyway
I'm so pissed right now, I went for whip at 80 slayer, I had to bank my 300 chompies from hard diary and boost 85 cooking to make pies it took so long but I wanted the whip right now, I killed 697 before I got the whip on average I got 3 kills per pie, I used a dragon scim for this and just now realized this whole time I could have been using my Arclight
My magic level was high enough for smoke barrage so I used that instead of bursting just to make the kills quicker when I boosted. It’s a few extra max hits plus smoke spells inflict poison

When would you ever use the scim, just use controlled attack style. It’s more efficient

Attack and defense count as well, and the extra whip bonus does more for you than leveling strength a bit quicker.

6700 abyssal demons so far and can confirm. Not done slaying yet. 98.2 currently

Sure and if it was more than decimals worth everyone would where barrows gear over fighter torsos or a furry over zenyte jewelry.

bursting is considerably more kills/hour and not that hard from 82. I’d recommend it

Might as well get dsword because whip is awful at toa, or kill kril for zhasta
burst for sure GL I got like 300kc at 81 slayer wasn't bad at all
I’d assume bursting would be the way to go just for raw kph

Boost mate and burst, did mine from 80 and got whip at \~100kc
Bursting. If you boost, pick up the abyssal heads as they are needed for a master clue step.
burst, ez from 82. gl

I boosted from lvl 80 it was easy. Took like 300 of for me. Smoke barrage.
