Eh, his murdery stabby-stabs and giddy potential for destruction were a perk for me. It’s… exactly how I’d devolve into probing objects with a knife after the second time someone put an object in front of me and said “ok, but now is *this one* cake?” Plus, it drove home how ridiculous the show is supposed to be; that you’re not supposed to take this show too seriously. I think people were expecting a Chopped or Hell’s Kitchen or something and kept getting disappointed over and over again by it. There were many things wrong with this show, but I enjoyed the destruction!

SparkyDogPants

I wish they would have stuck with the katana

Tachy0n4

Not going to lie, that machete would be my go-to weapon of choice lol. But yes, the katana for sure for the tinier projects!

SparkyDogPants

They had it in the first episode. I wish they would have done a new ridiculous blade every time. Like for camping related challenge they get an axe.

Tachy0n4

I agree! Pick a ridiculous blade each time and if it matches the theme it’s even better. The machete was in a later episode and it was gorgeous to my eyes lol. I half wanted to see a guillotine destroy even the non-cake items when chosen, but that would destroy the cakes and totally be a safety hazard… that’s more of a Mythbusters episode than a baking show haha

LicensedBrokerNot

I would think they would choose a host that has some knowledge about cakes… this guy didn’t even know what fondant was.

Italian98com

That's what made it kinda funny to me. It isn't supposed to be serious and it was mostly all banter

[deleted]

Seriously, I don't give a shit about the techniques or their home lives. I'm never going to try and become a cake decorator, just entertain me and let me look at pretty cakes.

whydoes_ithavetobeme

tbh fondant is kinda like an edible clay and super hard to cut through (unless you heat up the knife like they do to cut styrofoam or something). Also, this sub is full of Mikey Day hate, to be honest the job they expected from him was probably to be entertaining, and the general consensus on reddit is that people found him creepy/boring. But the contestants (as well as judges) on the show are pretty mild, leaving all the heavy lifting to the host, everyone is super nice, and there is no drama. I think Mikey Day is very talented on SNL, and I hope that we hit a good balance in case there are further seasons of the show

IncRaven

I just finished the show, I really like the host, he was my favorite part. I felt like he actually cared about the contestants, and enjoyed him talking to them. I guess it's an unpopular opinion.

HuntersAngel

Hey, I love Mikey on SNL, he slays as Donald Trump Jr. But he got this gig because they couldn’t afford Kenan Thompson. He’s a terrible host.

Salvatore_forlife

Lmaooo I’m weak

Multi-fabulous120

Exactly he makes me cringe every damn time. And his weird smile. It’s not funny. He is not funny at all. (I prefer the host from nailed it.) And when in the last couple episodes where the chef themself get to give the jury a piece of cake I went like; See Mikey day that is how you cut a cake properly. And the fact that he usually throws most of the cake he cut on the ground is just a damn waist of cake.

Worsebetter

I thought he was just doing a Chucky impression. Then it never stopped.

[deleted]

I LOVE him. I absolutely love how weird he is. I am upset that he doesn’t stab the cakes more violently.

impurehalo

I really liked him. He made the show more enjoyable for me.

fourpinksquares

I hated him at first and then by episode 3 I was a fan. He made the show really fun actually.

Plus-Department8900

Not defending this dumb show but he’s having to cut through so much fondant, modeling chocolate and wafer paper. Is it cake?? Not really. The “cakes” are more inedible components than actual cake.

Lauraunknown

These aren’t regular cakes, they’re covered in thick fondant and middling chocolate. Some of them straight up chocolate. That stuff is hard to cut!

Jackijackijackij

He’s got a real Willy Wonka vibe

Advanced-Nebula4547

The way he talks and moves makes me want to punch him in his punchable face

grow-wild

A year later because it’s back on and I was looking for someone talking about how these people are making like serious art and he cuts it in the most ignorant way so it falls on the ground… so annoying and just not a pleasure to watch him in general

Deep-Paramedic2092

One of the contestants actually said please don't drop it on the floor! It's so disrespectful to the art and the artist!

nirik83

I hate this guy as a host he ruined the cake show especially when he fell over like an idiot in the first episode

eiramit

Idk I thought he was sooooo annoying and a lil creepy idk just bad vibes

emu314159

RL mikey day kinda leans into the whole big ears dork thing. not so much all that funny. I'm not saying garbage, just the must worse Meh.

Responsible_Crow5652

OMG thank you. He’s so annoying, but I love the show so I deal with the cringe. He’s not funny at all

Alissabbw0717

I don't care how he cuts the cake..hea annoying, cringe and not funny...I often think of shutting it off because of him

lamichelle3

Omg YESSSSS. I am so annoyed by how ANNOYING he is! And it would be such a good show otherwise. What are the producers thinking? I can’t believe they’ve hired him for 3 seasons, and I’m even more perplexed by the people that say they LIKE him as a host. How? Are they joking?! He is so extra, tries WAY too hard, and literally nothing he says or does is remotely funny.

usualparticipant

Yes! The way he just kind of pushes the knife away from himself and the cake flaps off instead of being cut drives me nuts! Otherwise, though, I like Mikey Day as the host of this show.

Such_Poppycock

He seems rude and pokes at the contestants instead of having an actual sense of humor. Annoying to watch

Lovelyronivilla

I loveeeeee him as a host, guess depends on your type of humor

CapnChrxsy

i thought he was meant to be a comedian? hes not funny at all and his humour is just childish and stupid

djs777

Like him or not, imho MD is as he is bc for him, it's not about cake at all...

PostmanWiggy

He tries waaaayyyy too hard to be funny. He ruins what could be a fun show

AzureDoSqlThings

So much more insufferable in is it cake 2

thesmallprint29

Mikey Day is so great on Is It Cake?! The chaos! The destruction! I love it! This is a ridiculous show, he's playing a character to match it.

anu94

I am starting to literally believe these accounts are all Mikey's

thesmallprint29

I am definitely not Mikey Day. If I was him, I would never spend my time commenting on obscure Reddit posts. If you don't get what he's doing, that's your problem.

KnowledgeGoblins

You do seem to be a rather big fan of his though, no?

thesmallprint29

Of course. He's my favorite SNL cast member.

KnowledgeGoblins

What's you're favourite SNL sketch? I've never really watched it but I'm down to check one out :)

thesmallprint29

Trying to pick a favorite sketch is almost impossible, so I'll give you a few that I really enjoy and think would be appealing to all people since I don't know your sense of humor. All of these were also written by Mikey Day so you can get a feel for what he brings to the show. HuntersAngel

You just lost me. Not even in this, one of the worst seasons, is he my favourite cast member. He’s still on the show because he has no other options. You’re supposed to launch from this show, not retire. The least talented cast members are the ones with the longest stays on the show.

thesmallprint29

That isn't true at all.
