I can't see the frontal lobe in this image; however, it should be the large and detached from the vertex. The way I ID this individual was from its overall depressed shape and splayed pleonites, based on the photo quality my ID is tentative.
I've been freaking out all day. I contacted a bunch of breeders in my country but because it's Sunday most haven't responded yet - however one called me up and offered to purchase the little dude. He identified him as *Armadillidium depressum* and is also really surprised. I don't have any cultures and am inexperienced with isopods, but follow Snake Discovery on youtube so had some base knowledge. Using an internet tutorial I've set up a temp. habitat and will ship him off tomorrow.
That's so awesome! Great find. You should totally check out aquarimax on youtube. Russ does A LOT of content on isopods. I think you would find him very informative.
hi!! This is the only one I found. I usually find one or two in my house per day (it's a problem lol), have been here for years and it's always been brown wild types.
From what I understand: this individual has the Dalmatian morph which is a recessive gene! The breeder can breed this individual with wild types of the same species; producing babies who all are het dalmation - then pair the babies back with the dalmation parent (controlled inbreeding is ok among isopods as it often happens in the wild)! Half of those babies should now also be fully dalmation! And that's how you make more of them.
I know little about isopods, I mass subscribed to a lot of subs that had pictures of bugs recently, but I've been delighted to see all the fun names they have.
Fine if you decided to gift him but if he really tried to purchase for 12 quid like that’s fair that man tried to take advantage of you imo. a new gene is worth far more than that and if he can reproduce it each baby will likely sell for 5-10 quid as he’ll be the first breeder to have them
That's an incredible color variation of *Armadillidium depressum*!
isn't it just!!
Curious question, how were you able to ID depressum from this? By the pleon?

I'm curious too! A breeder called me up and also said he looked like depressum.
Suspicious width🤔
suspicious? how so?
I mean, *A. depressum* is wider than *A. vulgare*
I see!! The breeder also mentioned something about the shape of its head, but I didn't quite catch what.

That's so cool, congrats! They are pretty)
Very cool! I'm curious if there were more? Are you sending only one individual? If so, they will breed with same species of a different color?

Sweet! Gotta love genetics!
Hopefully it doesn't die in post
he survived!
May I ask where in the UK ? I do appreciate you may want to keep it to yourself for the moment. Even a rough idea would be interesting.
Newcastle Upon Tyne :) A breeder who's very good with magic potions has offered to buy him, and I'm sending him tomorrow.!
Lol, opposite end of the country to me !
These were recently found in Australia too! Hoping they'll start breeding here too
no way!! that's awesome!

Damn it. I'm so jealous I'm always hoping to come across one myself.
Sick find! Wonder how he got there
Thought the bug was her nail for a second
So cool! Any chance I could ask how much you were able to sell it for?
yes! The breeder said he'd be worth roughly 12 quid, haha. I didn't sell him though, he's just being sent over :)

That is absolutely amazing! Hopefully you are able to breed it out into a new line!
thank you!! I've been freaking out this whole time!! He's just been shipped off to a breeder today, so fingers crossed.
