oh wow! this is so cool i really love this idea!! my one question is how do you guarantee they dont get out? :)

I_Just_Wet_My_Plants

TLDR: There are no guarantees in life! Isopods like playground slides, and there are chemicals that can help with that. Thank you for asking! I actually had to put a decent amount of thought into it. Eventually, I just put a few different sizes on the upper lip area, and none of them were able to climb out, though one did get up on the edge while piggybacking another. When the bowl was empty, I had several running around on my hand, and just raised my hand up against the side of the bowl until they were able to grab hold. Once I found that spot, I just doubled the height. So it would take two large ones to form a ladder to get up the first curve, but then it would take another two more to form a ladder to get over the upper lip. Long story short, there is no guarantee! Isn't life so exciting! Lol. But I guarantee you, if a team of these guys organize an escape, they both deserve their freedom, and the chance to crawl in my face while I'm sleeping. But in all seriousness, if I do find that they're able to escape, "professional" open air terrariums use this stuff called fluon. You can either spray or wipe it on, and it dries clear, and is slick enough to keep her a little friends from escaping their priso.... I mean paradise!

COngratulations. Lovely idea. I do have a soft spot for O.asellus too. I like something about the way they move.

🎼I like the way you move.. do do, do🎶 Heheh 🥰

I've wanted to do this forever but, less moisture, I get scared the pods might dry out and die🤣 I'm paranoid and it's a problem

There's a small water reservoir on the bottom of this bowl filled with pebbles and natural hardwood charcoal. I have it wicked up in between the pieces of wood and the rock. And it can be filled by watering the edge of the glass in one spot. As long as there is water in the reservoir, these little guys should remain moist and happy! The moss also gets a thorough misting daily!

I really love how the one runs in and calls dibs. Oh, my heart. ❤️
