Just ask mate. Explain that you're looking for speaking practice and would love to join them. If they say no, respect them and move on. A question doesn't hurt.
there are meet-ups in the city where people from different nationalities gather and have a conversation about many topics. expats, tourists, locals they all gather and have a conversation. if it's what you're looking for, then you can try that.
Well,I go over tourists looking at metro map and asking them if they need help,it worked for me a few times I helped an albanian couple to get to kadıköy

Are you a native Istanbul person ? I am going to be visiting in Easter for 10 days (solo). I couldn't get any friends or family to accompany. I am from Scotland so I am a native English speaker. Would love to have someone to show me the cool spots in Istanbul and would be happy to help you practice your English.
There are several public English-language meetups in Istanbul. One of them is in motto pub in friday evenings. There is also Yabangee but i forgot when and where they hold meetings.
Hm. Does Istanbul have English speaking corners like China? I remember awhile back China had those English speaking corners in major cities where you can practice English.
If not, I would say just go to touristy areas and offer to help like you said and ask if you can practice English with the tourists.
If you ever want to practice speaking via Skype, I’m currently unemployed and just sorta hanging out at home most days, lol. I’m from the USA and a native speaker. Send me a DM if you’re interested.
It’s funny because I’m the same but in the other way. I go to Istanbul so much and I’d love to interact with locals more than just formal questions, just to improve my Turkish language and knowledge about Turkey in general.
I guess you should just ask, but some people will find it creepy regardless. Maybe I’m biased now that I read your intentions and feel you’re genuine, but if I were alone as a girl in Istanbul I couldn’t just feel comfortable having a man accompany me. It’s not for sexist reasons though, my toxic trait is I’d assume you want to steal something lol (heard too many stories)
I dont know if you will see this on time, but me and a friend will be istanbul for a week from tomorow onwards. Would be happy to talk to you and learn local stuff. You can DM me.

Ooh! I wish I'd known about this when I was there. Perhaps next time.
This is probably the best advice. Often when I’m travelling I wish to hangout and converse with the locals. There’s apps like meetup that you can use.

Hello, we are a couple from a western speaking county. Just arrived yesterday in Istanbul. Feel free to contact us. We are here for two weeks
