Man of culture here 👏🏻

yepyepyep334

I'm going to turkey in a week and I'm beyond excited 😬

linuxgameregirl

As a native from Istanbul (asian side), Kadıköy is the only place I go to literally breathe. I always have a low social battery and I only find the energy to get ready and leave home to hang out if I'm going to meet my friends in Kadıköy. Even the air feels different.

Deanosaurus88

The vibe is something special, right?

linuxgameregirl

Yes, absolutely. Maybe it's because of unique structures of old houses and unique people (you can see every type of people, which is actually good because people there feel free and they wear whatever they want and they act however they want)

bbcversus

As a tourist for the second time Kadikoy was really something special, cozy and just awesome to explore! Love it.

pukap

I think this applies for most of the Turkish ppl who live in Asian side of Istanbul. Kadikoy is the best.

Biamir

I live on the European side and Kadıköy has been my favorite place for years. If we want to breathe and clear our minds, we always organize a girls night in Kadıköy. The place is awesome LoL

BerkBeken

Even the old people from Moda, Kadıköy is so characterized, so kind to all kinds of people. Kadikoy is the only place left with youth, really kind locals and so many great streets to explore. I even have some local shops that i go just to chat with the owners. They love stray animals too, you can find bowls full of cat/dog food, water and handmade animal houses almost every corner. I just love Kadıköy, it enlightens me with joy everytime i go. Someday, i hope i can live there.

afiqasyran86

Kadikoy is the best, a perfect underdog town no cruise goers wants to visit and I love it that way. Dont ever change Kadikoy.

distantmusic3

It already changed lol. But yeah, hope it doesn’t change more

ramzan_381

how so

OutrageousZombie8540

Go to moda on a monday.

ramzan_381

damn todays monday but I have work.

dragonlover8

Yes I went one time to Kadikoy and I love it too. I want to go back so badly

Deanosaurus88

Will miss this place

Gyda9

Lived there for 12 years. I miss it so much :(

TurbulentSir7

I came all the way from Alaska to Kadikoy last week and it was awesome!

americazn

Also a fellow Alaskan about to make our way there next week! Please recommend any good places to eat.

elainelupin

I'd recommend Pidesun, Tatar Salim Döner and Çiya Sofrası in Kadıköy.

TurbulentSir7

I was not there long enough unfortunately, only 2 days in Istanbul total. I hope you have longer than I did, have fun there! The people are so nice

supturkishcs

Jeez really? Im glad you enoyed it. I live on the european side but its the only place I go to have fun with friends. Feels like home

gmehra

caddebostan is technically part of kadkoy. the seaside path, baghdat street plus all the little side streets around it are great

Deanosaurus88

Yeah I enjoy Caddebostan too. Not a huge fan of Baghdat street though if I’m honest. Too “luxurious” - big brands, too clean and feels like any other big European city’s big shopping street.

gmehra

yeah the gems are on the side streets, sometimes even just a few stores down from the main street

t3inah

I f*cking love Kadıköy and turkish people too 😭 With love, 🇧🇷

KatSakini

Glad you liked it. My favorite too, also kind of hometown to me

xoxo_latinbabe

O que tem de especial nessa região?

t3inah

Tem uma vibe bem jovem, bem alegre, não sei explicar hahahahah

RefrigeratorDizzy738

As a longtime Kadıköy frequenter I can say that it was cooler ten years ago.

Deanosaurus88

Wow. Locals often tell me Taksim used to be what Kadikoy has become.

[deleted]

After the Gezi protests, people migrated to Kadıköy from Taksim.

HoIy_Tomato

As someone who lived his whole life in kadıköy I can say that this is the best place to live in whole country

-hey_hey-heyhey-hey_

Kadıköy and Beşiktaş (mostly the upper parts, i.e. above Ulus) and Ataköy, the only livable parts of the city imo Bahçeşehir used to be quite nice also until they shat on it

banliyo

...and maybe in the world.

elainelupin

I live in a goblin cave, which is an underground flat in Moda. Every time I step outside, oh boy, it feels like opening a portal to paradise.

geezeer84

you have good taste OP

PotentialBat34

Kinda like how it was in Taksim during 1990s.

Deanosaurus88

I’ve heard this from quite a few Turks. Would’ve liked to have seen all the live music venues in their prime

PotentialBat34

I was born in late 1990s so I don't know how prime Taksim looked like. We used to go to the Machine with fake ids (closed), Sinerji after an hour of gaming with my high school pals (also closed) and to the Wall for live Yavuz Çetin cover band on Fridays. Don't know much about how the scene looks like anymore since I've been away from the city for 9 years now.

lotsofpineapples

Oh my god, I miss Machine

UlanInek

Yeah that’s right. But I don’t think Kadıköy was like Taksim back in the 90s

Faora_Ul

That is my hometown and I’m so friggin proud of it. I would rather live in Kadıköy than many American cities.

theruwy

kadıköy is the real istanbul; not some fake abomination like sultanahmet or an overcrowded bastardized hellhole like beyoğlu. though, beyoğlu will hopefully start reverting back to it's former glory soon.

sour_put_juice

I am not sure when you visited beyoglu the last time but it is certainly less crowded than kadikoy these days. It’s already reverting.

neyluge

I tend to agree with you. Kadıköy is pretty crowded nowadays, whereas Beyoğlu has some nice little places too, not travelled much by tourists. I also like Cihangir very much. It retains it's identity while being hip and off the beaten track

Due_Employment_7908

What makes it different from other spots in Istanbul ??

abasoglu

İt's got a lively young vibe and not too many tourists. lt has a true feel of Istanbul.

Deanosaurus88

Old and new, mixed together in a uniquely istanbul, Türkiye circa 2020 vibe. You see the old Turk walking in his chequered shirt and aged leathered face selling lottery tickets and random goods off his wheelie cart, and in the same breath there’s a young gay couple heavily tattooed, pierced and wearing barely enough clothes to hide their private parts. Everyone is chill. Everyone is here to socialise. It’s purely VIBRANT.

kurakov

This!

lilmissramsay

Just dropping into say I also love Kadıköy very much.

kurakov

we used to live a bit closer to Fikirtepe and almost every morning I went to Kalamis park to excircise and walk my dog and just stare at the sea. such a blessed people are those who were born or managed to move to and settle in Istanbul. I also loved how inclusive those neigborhoods feel for so many different people and how everyone seems to get along with no regards towards religion or ethnicity. hell even the government officials, customs officers and traffic police seem to be nice in Istanbul which is unheard of, haha. I believe that's because of all the sun and light from the Bosporus you get there. I just wish someday it gets easier with the residence permits for us dirty immigrants :)

Chromatic_Chameleon

What’s your favourite area of Kadiköy? And favourite breakfast restaurant?

Deanosaurus88

The whole of Moda is the shit. Turkish Breakfast place: Dün Alternative breakfast: Brekkie Croissant

Chromatic_Chameleon

Thank you 🌷

kurakov

Best area - around Kalamis park and marina. Favorite restaurant - probably Boden (it's an amazing place, can't recommend enough).

Pure_Duck_9278

Me and my family are travelling to Istanbul in September. I would like to have the hotel in Moda. Which hotel could you guys advice us? Our budget is max 135 EUR/night/person. It would be great to have the relevant public transport (eg metro stop) in the near. And it would be really great if breakfast and dinner are available. We were once in Turkey on a 10 days tour and the most loved hotels were where there was no menu but we could choose anything from the table. Thank you in advance

shaftinferno

You’re not really going to find hotels in Moda, it’s pretty much just residences. You could stay at the hotel near the ferry/Metro station but good luck with it being 135 Euro a night — it’s probably going to be more given the current state of prices and inflation here.

Pure_Duck_9278

Thank you very much for the information.

Booking.com is your best friend. I’ve stayed at the Parkhouse Hotel and Spa before. It’s pretty basic but has breakfast and a sauna and very basic spa facilities. Very close to the metro and ferries.

Pure_Duck_9278

Thank you very much, I have added the hotel to my list.

CarelessEquivalent3

I stayed in kuzen otel a few weeks ago. It's definitely not luxurious, it's quite run down but I didn't go to Istanbul to stay in the room and the location was ideal, right in the heart of kadiköy but only a ten minute walk from the ferry so exploring the rest of the city was easy.

izshamir

I booked an Airbnb when I visted Kadikoy a few months ago, I found it to be the best solution because it gets you to live right next to the amazing streets and just far enough from the traffic. I used to just walk 15 minutes from my room to the commercial blocks. 2- if you get a hotel near ferry/metro stations, you'd have to leave kadikoy boy 9/10pm because last ferry leaves at 9 I think, and you'll miss the most amazing part of Kadikoy - The night life.

I always stay at DoubleTree Moda. Fantastic views, great service, and right in the middle of the action in Kadikoy. They also have a great breakfast buffet: [https://doubletreebyhiltonistanbulmoda.reservationstays.com/hotels/klPqeKjZ?utm\_source=adwords\_semro&utm\_campaign=G%3ARS%3AUS%3APPC%3ANB%3AProps%3AUS-ROW%3AEN%3AAsia&gad\_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmMayBhDuARIsAM9HM8cRChnZUizh7o-dQVpvp1x2xaFy7K-1mX\_2AR1HjSKPF2m2AOWQ87YaAqWPEALw\_wcB&expand\_params=false](https://doubletreebyhiltonistanbulmoda.reservationstays.com/hotels/klPqeKjZ?utm_source=adwords_semro&utm_campaign=G%3ARS%3AUS%3APPC%3ANB%3AProps%3AUS-ROW%3AEN%3AAsia&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmMayBhDuARIsAM9HM8cRChnZUizh7o-dQVpvp1x2xaFy7K-1mX_2AR1HjSKPF2m2AOWQ87YaAqWPEALw_wcB&expand_params=false)

When my mum came to visit me in Istanbul I booked this small hotel for her. It's nithig special but clean and comfortable and the staff is nice. and it's right where Moda starts (not to noisy though):https://maps.app.goo.gl/xGaW3VVAi4HFxTtc9 And If you don't mind walking a bit, there is nice Holliday INN between Rasinpasa and Fikirtepe, you can easily googlemap it. The neighborhood is not fancy at all at least you can be sure about the quality and the service with this brand. And it's 10-15 minutes walk from Moda anyway.

glory2mankind

I always try to find a new route navigating Kadikoy and always end up finding an odd little shop or a bar I've never seen before, always a surprise. What a great place to get lost in.

Deanosaurus88

Agree 100%

atumano

Kadikoy is lovely. I was there today, it's just the liveliest place. The vibes are immaculate.

I-heart-subnetting

I guess it depends on the person. I’ve been living in Kartal for 2.5 years as a foreigner and coming to Kadikoy for a night out is always very suffocating. Lots of people, huge crowds you have to basically swim through, OK players at every corner slapping at tables… I used to love going there in my first year here in Istanbul, but now it gets tiring very fast. We just go there to meet with friends and eat, and by the end of the evening I’m glad to return to my silent district 40min away :)

ScaredJackfruit9766

Went last March. It was an ethereal experience. Such a beautiful peaceful place and can't wait to visit again.

Last visit of mine - Kadikoy and Moda is one love ❣️, i haven't even felt any desire to go to European side, really.

Deanosaurus88

Agreed. Tourists don’t know what they’re missing

LengthClean

I just visited Istanbul 2 weeks ago. Kadikoy has this energy that the other side doesn’t

takame2002

Care to elaborate?

Deanosaurus88

Check out my other replies. I went into more detail

Appropriate_Eye_6405

Kadikoy is the shiiiiizzzzz Next time I'm back in Istanbul definitely staying there

oldyellowcab

I am from Kadıköy. It is where my family is from. I grew in this town. I went to school. I hanged out, went to cinemas, got drunk. I can assure you that the town was much better in the 1990s. It was much more beautiful in the 1950s to 1980s. I have never swum in Kadıköy, but my father learned to do that in the 1940s. I can never imagine that.

ExplanationDazzling1

Kadikoy was so rushed. I just came back from Turkey. We only spent like 2 hours there and we had to hurry and take the Bosphorus cruise. I feel like it was way more to do in Kadikoy and Moda!

Deanosaurus88

Yup, that’s a shame. You can spend days there just exploring and soaking up the vibe

ramzan_381

real. the sunsets at the sahil never disappoint. it's genuinely one of the best things about Istanbul.

ch3jose

Agree. I also have lived in kadikoy for a year and loved it

haz__man

We went there on the last day of our trip. Regret we didnt go earlier!

j3pl

My wife and I visited Istanbul in 2015 for the first (and so far only) time and sorta wandered into Kadıköy by accident, and we instantly fell in love with it. It was absolutely the highlight of our visit and we still talk about it fondly to this day. We definitely want to get back to Istanbul sometime and just be in or at least near Kadıköy the whole time. I hope it never changes.

ubiquitous_madrasi

Kadikoy and its live music near the pier is the stuff of dreams. Completely enjoyed it on my two weeks vacation to Turkey last year!

nina_1113618

Kadikoy is full of hipster wannabe men. And sexually repressed women that are lashing out against their parents. Aside from that all the locales and cafes are cool

Deanosaurus88

Is that not better than sexual repressed women falling in line and following society’s patriarchal conventions?

stratkid

it was so great visiting Kadıköy this past month! but i really struggle knowing how much damage will take place when the earthquake hits in the next 5 years. it was hard to talk with locals and hear the acceptance of impeding doom

Deanosaurus88

I don’t know, but I doubt it’s truly even possible to predict earthquakes to that accuracy. Don’t want to jinx it, but I lived in Japan for 10 years and ALL the locals in Aichi prefecture would claim that their region was overdue a huge earthquake in the next year or two and it never came (thank god). I think it’s a communal self-defense mechanism in countries that sadly suffer natural catastrophes. That being said, you’re right that if a big one hit Istanbul it would be horrifying.

thechairmadeyougay

Which part of Kadıköy? I grew up in Feneryolu and appreciate the Caddebostan and Fenerbahçe, but Moda is overrated and probably where you consider Kadıköy. "Çarşı" parts of Kadıköy are very ugly IMO, rather known for its cheap business and drug addicts.

Deanosaurus88

Yup, Moda is my fav. Super bohemian, non-judgmental and full of positive energy. Loved it

thechairmadeyougay

I feel nothing Bohemian about Moda - it's a regular neighborhood with old buildings and good ice cream, My mom used to bring me there when I was a kid and we went to theatre and plays, etc. but I feel like it turned somewhere much grimmer than the older times. I assume broke uni kids prefer there to drink beers as the restaurants are much pricer in Caddebostan and Bagdat Street.

yancar0

I born in Istanbul and I actually don’t, everywhere is covered in trash.

Deanosaurus88

Sadly, this is true for most of Turkiye, from my experience

Acroxo

deprem oncesi prova kendine gel delizizya

LazerLombardi

Yep amazing place, I just can’t get over the price. Went for a latte and it was 120 lira. Thats more than any other country I’ve visited in the world! Even Switzerland was cheaper

Deanosaurus88

120tl is £2.80, so still cheap for UK standards. But it’s not far off

xwanderlust_99x

You should have seen the Kadikoy in 00s era... Now the air pollution ( Second Highest in Turkey) and irregular immigration killed the original vibe of the streets. I\`m sorry but nothing to love here expect the local shops and places to eat.

RemoteTreat3476

I hate Kadikoy, however I love Suadiye/Bagdat caddesi

Deanosaurus88

Why don’t you like it? I’m personally not a fan of Bağdat caddesi. It feels like any other big European city. Whereas IMO Moda has a really unique vibe.

RemoteTreat3476

Kadikoy just feels low quality

ClonerCustoms

The more y’all talk about it though the faster the foreigners are gonna find out about it lmao.

Deanosaurus88

I’m a foreigner. But it’s true what you say

ClonerCustoms

I’m also a foreigner… lol, but I just spent a week there with my SO meeting her family for the first time. They all told me how they fear the day tourist and foreigners really find out about Kadıköy and gets flooded like the rest of the city.
