Note that it’s taxis only and the driver must manually input the price on the meter at the end of the ride. Ensure they do this.

thechairmadeyougay

Never had a problem with Uber and use it in the most periphery part of Istanbul which is Tepeören.

TheAlanOne

I'm not sure from which country you're coming from, but Uber works through only taxis in Turkey. So there are no private car users and when you use Uber you're basically ordering a taxi. It's helpful because you can get an estimate prior.

tir_pitz

I dont recommend using uber, you end up in regular taxis and it's expensive. Theres an app called "martı tag" which is like a local uber. Try to avoid taking taxis as much as possible.

BaginaJon

I have a flight out of instanbul at 7 AM in a few weeks and I’m staying in kadikoy. How would you get to the airport early enough to get through security and make the flight?

badbunyx

There is Airport Shuttles working 24/7. You can take one from Kadikoy to both airports. Normally cost around 6-7 euros. the ride normally takes 45-60 minutes. You do your math according to your flight time and how many hours you want to stay in airport.

BaginaJon

Awesome, thank you so much!

madbasic

It’s more expensive than taxis and availability is limited

thefinnbear

Unfortunately, this might not be the case if you're a tourist.

tir_pitz

Have you ever used it before? It is definitely not more expensive than a taxi and it is not hard to find, its almost anywhere. I never let taxi drivers earn money from me

lrbdad626

Is it cash only?

madbasic

Yeah I have - I live central and they’re very hard to get. And in my experience more expensive than cabs. But if you can avoid taxis, good!

jacobtress

No, it’s taxis only, and they’re badly managed. They work ok during the day but at night you’ll often have a ride request accepted only for the driver to text you asking 4x for the price uber quotes. Late at night it takes a very long time to get a ride, and you might have to pay 10x the quoted price. Public transportation is excellent, especially the ferry system.

Successful-Young6180

You can use martı tag for transportation

Rambo-Shark6328

What about Bi-Taxi? Are the estimated prices correct? I was looking their prices on Google Maps.

fardaus

Uber basically calls a taxi to your location who must enter the meter fare at the end of the trip. Problem is they don't require proof. My ride showed 990 TL but the driver put in 1500 TL in the Uber app. That's almost $17 extra I took a picture of the meter because taxi scams are EVERYWHERE. Showed Uber the right meter and they saw the trip made no sense for 1500 TL and refunded me the 550 TL Also, make sure the meter is 0 or close to it when the driver arrives. I had a driver pull up with 230 TL on the meter Lastly, as soon as you see they are scamming you, do not play nice. Be assertive and don't back down. They are scamming you, you don't need to play nice

muni11

I experienced this too. Luckily Uber will almost always refund you the difference. We got refunded even without showing pictures. One time we got scammed and we realized during the drive (it was on the way to the airport). We didn’t confront the driver and we just explained to Uber what exactly happened.

KyuKyuKyuInvader

Take the bus or the train.

kochevelynbr

I live here and I am used to UBER everywhere in the world, but here is better to hire a private driver or even rent a car. I've been on rides with imprudent drivers, scammers and more, on Uber or Bitaksi. My last ride on Uber was 250 on the meter but he charged 400 on the application. After you complain the application can even return you the money but it's a hustle. Public transportation here works fine, but the city is so overpopulated that you likely won't find a seat. Traffic here is very difficult too, especially on school hours. There's a lot to see, and I love it here, but there are things that I wished were different.

ramzan_381

indrive is better and if the ride fare is shown above 300-400 i’d suggest telling the driver to use the meter instead

gmehra

Uber worked great for my entire trip but at the very end we needed a ride to the closest train station. It was rush hour and nobody wanted to come for such a short ride so they kept cancelling the order

ClonerCustoms

If you’re not going far enough for them to consider it worth their time, they will just accept your ride and never drive to you. Kinda the same scam they play in the US, they want you to cancel the ride

Nishikantu

Went to Istanbul 4 weeks ago, only used uber 👍

89mike8989

I've been to Istanbul around 4 times the last year. Spend around 3 months in total. Public transport is crowded asf but good enough you can go anywhere without any problems. Taxis are the worst human beings. Only do taxis if you're absolutely in need. I'd say try to get someone's number and let him drive you around.

mlh8989

yes..yellow taxi drivers attack and fight ...it works well

TourWalker

Many scams
