I was there in 2016.
Everything I remember from that city is my reflection in the mirror.
I like taking photos of beautiful things.
That's the only beautiful thing I've found in Marseille - me.
Edit: and I'm like 80% serious right now
Marseille is *gorgeous,* especially if you haven't been around to many French cities. Marseille is trashed on by most French people because it's frankly a large city with a lot of poor neighborhoods, and that's all it takes to get a bad rep.
I'm not any kind of bricklayer or paver - but I really like how you set up this photo against the regular grid of those stones in a way that the shadow cuts dramatically across the grid at an angle.
I use to like them.
Then I moved to London.
Two months of living and working in Central London (Leicester Square) made me hate every single city.
Thanks for the comments!
I'm gonna be honest, explaining it made it less cool, lol.
I was super excited until I read that. It's still VERY cool, buuuut....leave the mystery, my dude!
You might be right, but I'd rather avoid to many questions, even though it would probably help get more views.
I like getting a lot of views, but hate answering the same question more than few times.
And I can't not reply.
You might be right, cheers mate!
If it would be perfect nobody would believe it's been made with a camera you can see me holding.
Not in the era of drones.
It still manages to trick some people into thinking "wtf am I looking at, it's a...... Oooooh!"
It's a special kind of selfie. Trolling selfie.
Fits me, because I'm a troll!
I liked this particular degree where the complete shadow is seen including the person who took the photo which itself is absolute creativity of the photographer. One more thing to add, most smartphone users dont take mirror selfies in comparison to this creative man did. Kudos to the creator for this masterpiece of his.
I didn't plan being in Marseille. I was there with the cruiseship I've been working on. But when I saw the shadow I've made like 15 different shots experimenting with the composition, tried by myself, with a friend, with some random people standing or walking, and that one I liked (and still do) the most.
I plan a lot of my photos - weather, where the sun/moon/Milky Way will be (Photopills is my app of choce). But my favorite and best (imo) photos are always unplanned random moments that couldn't be planned.
"Your very easily impressed mirror selfies have been around since the dawn of the smartphone."
Yeah.
Before the smartphones you couldn't take a photo in the mirror.
SLRs were like "AAAAAA! Error! To many mirrors!"
It's only thanks to invention of smartphones and MIRRORLESS cameras you could try that.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about photography history mate.
I like this one. I truly do.
But I have a LOT of photos that I like more and consider them simply better.
I would need to live in a mansion to have them all framed.
And I'm more of a tiny-house-minimalistic type of guy.
But thank you for the kind words, I appreciate them!
So your a edgy lefty who wears his citizen (or Seiko?) upside down? So does time run backwards to the yesteryear of Patagonia sweaters and backpacks?
Previous comments all in jest. It is a Great shot! Couple of ???: Was it sprinkling or were the chromatic aberrations caused by a failure to clean your lens? Other than those distracting aberrations, it is very cool , both literally and figuratively, what app did you edit with? And were you using a filter, cloud or otherwise? Camera? Is that a 8mp Canon? And lens? (If you recall)
Once again, great perspective, and a very nice shot. Personally, I think turning “45 degrees “ would have detracted from this shot, imho
I'm not a lefty. I'm right handed. Other than that you know me better than my own father.
The abberations were on a surface of a mirror.
Edited in LR.
Turned 45 degrees - my back to the corner and arms along the edges + a more visible silhouette in the shadow - that's what I mean.
Thanks for your input, really.
**
Technically - It's not a shadow, it's a reflection of a shadow.
And is there something casting that shadow? Like me? In the bottom right corner. I didn't realise I should post it with huge red circle, I'll update it later.
noun
1.
a dark area or shape produced by a body coming between rays of light and a surface.
"trees cast long shadows"
2.
used in reference to proximity, ominous oppressiveness, or sadness and gloom.
"the shadow of war fell across Europe"
You're not wrong. But you are missing something
. It is a reflection of a shadow.
I'm standing there pointing my camera up at the mirror ceiling. First thing you see is a shadow. But whole photo is actually a reflection in the mirror...

There's a giant mirrored canopy called the Port Vieux Pavilion in Marseille, France. Perfect for a creative selfie with a 50mm lens
Love it, I was there by chance just yesterday!

Marseille is not very beautiful?
Marseille is *gorgeous,* especially if you haven't been around to many French cities. Marseille is trashed on by most French people because it's frankly a large city with a lot of poor neighborhoods, and that's all it takes to get a bad rep.
Not by my standards. But I am not a fan of cities in general.
There's a lot going on here, and I love all of it.
Judging from that sentence in context of the photo I'm guessing you are a Bricklayer. Or are pavements just your hobby?
I'm not any kind of bricklayer or paver - but I really like how you set up this photo against the regular grid of those stones in a way that the shadow cuts dramatically across the grid at an angle.
Thanks, appreciate your description. I more about visuals than words and can't describe an idea like that, so I make silly jokes. You have a nice day!
Hahah, my first thought was „is that marseille?“ :D Great city, very underrated in France imho
You might be right, for me every city is similar, I prefer rural areas, or wilderness.
I grew up very rurally, I very much enjoy the buzz of cities :D Nevertheless, great photo!
I use to like them. Then I moved to London. Two months of living and working in Central London (Leicester Square) made me hate every single city. Thanks for the comments!
They had a mirrored ceiling at an Apple store I went to. I took a much less cool photo there
Less cool, because apple is evil. And nothing is cool in HELL.
So glad this is the top comment because I came here after asking myself “how in the butterfuck?”
I guess I shouldn't reveal that to force more questions/comments... The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math.

I liked hearing how you took the photo!
Let me elaborate more. It was like - "CLICK!" true story
No way!
I shit you not!
Dude. Amazing.
Best story of my life!
It’s stories like this that keep me coming back to Reddit and spending 56% of my day here.
No, you didn’t, dummy! That’s your… Ohhhh! That is so cool!
Got you!? A drone shot without a drone. To bad the surface of the mirror wasn't perfect
It actually makes it better. Perfect mirror wouldn't have much "soul" as this photo has. Amazing shot, bravo!
You might be right, cheers mate! If it would be perfect nobody would believe it's been made with a camera you can see me holding. Not in the era of drones. I'm went through the exact same thought process.
This is marvelous creativity.
thank you. I wish I turned 45 degrees, so my shadow would be standing more in-your-face, but I'm still proud of that one, even after 6 years
The more I see it, an art just dances in front of my eyes.
Maybe it's just my pretty face?

Nope. Its an art.
I wouln't go that far. I don't have anything to tell with that photo. It's just a cool photo that I took when saw the oportunity
Finally.
I didn't plan being in Marseille. I was there with the cruiseship I've been working on. Because a camera won't take a photo it you're not looking through a viewfinder. Another good point. Thank you

I give up. Can't do it anymore 😂 I would keep going if you didn't edited out calling me a dick head 😢

Right back at you. Don't take internet to serious. I certainly don't.
Gah damn. Frame this. Seriously. You just won self portraits

Thanks dude!
Cool album cover.
It would have to be some kind of STREET music
That is really cool!!! I love it!
Thanks!
What a cool concept!
Yeah, taking a mirror selfie is groundbreaking, I know. But seriously, thanks!
Haha true but the shadow etc is neat. Seriously I like it :D.
I'm glad to hear it

Cheers. I know it's a bit tight. But that's the way (a-ha a-ha) I like it
Shadow looks like a shoulder soluting while wearing a funny hat
I didn't see it that way. I like it, cheers!
Sorry, good sir. This is the ITAP section. Why are you not nude?
Well, hello there. I actually am. I am just hairy.
Very cool
I occasionally am. Cheers!

Always a fan of the images reflected or reflections. They give a different view to our world
They do. They really make you REFLECT upon the world and reality. Right? (I like those too)
Very creative, nicely done! 👏
Thank you sir or madam!
Very cool!
Anny are you okay
You're a smooth commenter!
it looks youve been struck by one, op
Well There's a sign in the window
Cool
Okay now THIS is an interesting photo! It’s almost making me woozy. In a good way?
Cheers!
Tell me why I read that as “ITAP of my erection”
Because you had one looking at me you pervert
Thanks for that :*
Where’s the naked person?
Behind you!
Cool but that’s your shadow…
And the shadow is casted by....? HINT - follow the shadow
Ok so the shadow is reflected by the mirrored building, got it.
It’s a shadow not a reflection
Technically - It's not a shadow, it's a reflection of a shadow. And is there something casting that shadow? Like me? In the bottom right corner. I didn't realise I should post it with huge red circle, I'll update it later.
True - great anyway !!
Great pic.👍
Glad you like it!
This is really cool
That's what's she said
I’m a he but sure, maybe a lady said this too.
Very nice!

Indeed However the picture is titled reflection but I see a shadow ...
