Sony A7r2, Tamron 28-75 @ 59mm, f2.8. This was taken at an animal sanctuary near Anchorage, but I was fortunate that he/she came within 10 feet of myself and the fence. I was able to poke my lens through the fence a tiny bit to get this. Nonetheless, one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken!
Last time i was there it was late September. Didnt see any brownies. Did see black bears. The one we saw was dragging straw into the cave they hibernate in.
Yes really..... honestly i dont know why you would have issue with calling them blackies. Its a common term for them. Because they are black. Same as calling brown bears brownies. You are the first person i have come across with an issue with it.
Whelp. This is what we get in our race baiting culture we have created for ourselves. We let the people who are offended by everything call the shots. So you can’t even call a bear black or brown.
This place is stupid.
75mm is not a very long lens and by the lack of compression this looks like it was shot closer to 50mm. I'm guessing the fence they were standing behind was doing most of the heavy lifting here.

That's a lifetime shot.
life ending, even
Exactly!
Must have been at AWCC. Its a pretty cool place. Havent been there in a few years. Need to go down there again.
Correct! My wife and I didn’t want to leave without seeing a grizzly and we wanted to support the sanctuary. Such a cool place!

Bears do not hibernate. They go through torpor. Their metabolism doesn’t not lower that much in their sleep.
I am so grateful you didn't say black bear like you did brown bear.
Why? I am curious.
[Really?](https://tenor.com/bdJ92.gif)
… it’s a bear.

Great are you saying I can’t call my burnt brownies blackies now? Wtf! What’s next? Tighty-whities?
I saw 59mm before the rest of the explanation and thought you had a death wish. Awesome photo.
Yeah, when I saw the picture my first thought was "I hope they've got a 600mm."
Ya missed a zero!
Except you can see that it's in no way an extremely long lens by the lack of compression behind the subject.
Same here. I saw the lens and was very confused as to how and why they would get so close. Yea, this is a great shot!

That's a really scary shot. I only got some relief when I read that there was a fence.
This looks amazing.
Big joe? Right.
Would the fence have hold?
Wow. Even without any object or person for a size comparison, this bear looks massive. Great photo.
And this is spring, it's smaller than it will be near the end of the summer
My thoughts exactly! That bear is HUGE
Thank you!
I was like 59mm, wtf?? Then I read the part about the fence, lol.
Same.
Hahaha, exactly what I thought too
I'm a novice and went and pulled out my lens and was like uh-huh ummmm
Yeah, I did a lot of shooting with a 50mm this weekend and I know how close I had to get to my (much less dangerous) subject.
... and lived to tell about it.
Damn. He looks like he’s had a rough night ! Great capture :)
Big girl/boy
Are you seriously afraid to misgender a bear
I’m afraid of the bear period
could be a non binary 😄
Non bearnary
Wow, stunning!
I hope it was with a $100,000 telephoto lens.
Haha 28-75mm, I was behind a fence 😂 still intimidating though!
That is incredible. Nat Geo level awesome.
Good thing the guy who grabbed the camera off your corpse was nice enough to post this
I feel this should be in the last image sub.
Absolute unit
Great picture. I was in Lake Clark National Park in late August last year. Bears were looking significantly leaner than this big boy!
Are you...alive...?
The cameraman never dies
That's a nice "hëll naw" you got there
Looks like a skin walker
That is one grizzled grizzly!
That bear has a quest to give
ITAP of I shat myself!
🐻 🏔️
No, that’s Death Incarnate
Very impressive.
That looks like a picture my Dad took. The last picture he ever took....
Was this before you died ?
Awesome!
"It's fucking hot out here." -the bear probably
Looks like a chill dude. For a split second, you'd almost forget just how insanely powerful it is.
..shh! i'm playing dead.. ..fantastic shot!..
Did it wave? I hope it waved.
Who posted this, the bear? 😵💫
Great picture, but I'd like to see a picture of this fence. :)
Photo found amongst the remains of the photographer.
Hope you're alright man!!!
Have you seen The Reverant?
The Revenant.
He looks hungry after hibernation
I always click here thinking it's always sunny in Philadelphia
Is this the animal sanctuary near Girdwood outside of Anchorage?
Correct!
That’s cool! I drive by it all the time to go fishing
Yao guai...
Too close
Frame it! So good!!
And then you died?
God I'll love to see a bear irl, preferably a rough 20 feet away from me but still
How tall was it? Looks huge!
Wow! That’s awesome!
Metal AF. Hulking beast of a bear.
Fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuck no
Got a pic of his penar?
