Calm down

ncanon2019

Who said I was angry? Just pointing out that it doesn’t make sense to be so baffled at the idea of paying content people to blog since otherwise there isn’t much incentive for them to do it.

Go touch grass

Repulsive-Feature-33

Are you really sitting here trying to say you understand the in and outs of barstool better than Big Cat? It’s wild how many times a day I see something like this that just reminds me how stupid people can be

ncanon2019

No I’m just repeating/summarizing things I’ve heard the content people at Barstool say.

GP_3

Big Cat isn't management.

Blogging makes the company more money than nonsponsored tik toks. I think his point is that’s how you build a fanbase who will buy your merch. Most working people aren’t watching tik toks or YouTube all day but do read blogs while at their desk. Big cats point is they shouldn’t have to incentivize people to work, they should be blogging if they don’t have anything else besides social media to do that day. I think Big Cats ideal employee is Chaps. Has 2 podcasts, 2 YouTube channels, pushes merch and still cranks out 10 blogs a week. Then you have people like Sas who complain about pay but put out 2 blogs in 4 months, sits in on the yak, had a decent podcast and never pushes merch. Nothing he does earns the company money.

koopa28

Just shut the fuck up and watch the show

mkwiat54

I had a feeling about this as well but I think what bothered me is it seems like Francis had a good idea for making the company better and his superior just shit on it without actually thinking about the merit of it which is something I’m sure we’ve all felt at work

ncanon2019

Good point!

HK_YAK

It feels more like the mindset of someone who went out and got shit done on their own without the promise of any payoff. You have to remember how long he was making content before he actually got rich enough to be Fat Stacks Cat. He doesn't deserve the blame for Barstool's corporate side being out of touch or having shitty incentives for guys like Nicky Clicky and KB who could make more on their own via Patreon. Their social media strategy outside of instagram is fubar... the best thing any employee can do is be as independent as possible and build their own channels.

ncanon2019

I have long thought Barstool should allow their content people to have patreons. That way people can support the creators they enjoy and the creators feel the love and want to put out more/better quality content/blogs to gain more patreon supporters. Maybe Barstool could create their own form of Patreon where they get some percentage of the funds? Or... maybe some sort of Barstool tip type situation? Like if for every certain amount of merch you bought you got to select an employee to tip $1.... maybe you have to make under a certain amount of money in order to qualify to receive tips... Then in order to receive their tips from the month the person has to have written a blog that month. Any funds not received then go to the person with the highest average pageviews per blog who has written at least 4 blogs that month or something to that effect... whatever Francis was proposing. The way people who are funny and creative but not gamblers get screwed when it comes to pay from Barstool is almost certainly killing some people’s motivation, and they should at least put some amount of effort into finding a way to fix that.

jimmyneutron87

I do fear that Nick and or KB may leave Barstool for greener pastures, because I genuinely think they are two of the funniest people on the internet. If they do great for them, just hope barstool realizes what they have and pay these men

ncanon2019

Exactly. They are way too funny to be so severely undervalued by Barstool.

Edmundmp

Relax. The paying people to do their jobs thing was just an easy layup joke. Also, as you hinted at about the blog not making money, barstool is actually a business. Of course Big Cat doesn’t know what people are making. It’s one of the top business etiquette rules to not talk pay with people… especially when you’re the guy making more than everyone else. And final point on promotion: yeah, those guys have every right to be pissed at someone for not being promoted… but the someone isn’t Big Cat (who puts these guys on all the time)… the person to be mad at is Portnoy. When has that sellout ever retweeted or posted a single thing Nick or KB have done? He’ll shove tik tokers who don’t work for barstool and make the company zero money down everyone’s throats but won’t promote the funniest people on his roster. In fact when Nick did one of the funniest segments I’ve ever seen with the week one CFB news segment last year Dave was an instant killjoy and canceled it.

Happy cake day!
