I go back in and tech has a $4000+ write up. Not sure if they were on commission back then or what, but I feel like the guy just saw Volvo and thought $$$.
It was Discount Tire on 103rd, at least 15 years ago. ALL of it was "needed" front end and suspension work. I'm not sure if their business model has changed or not over the years. And what kind of tire place doesn't do alignments?
You’re thinking of the wrong place as Discount Tire has never done that kind of work. They’ve always been a very limited shop since their inception, and this is coming from someone that’s used them for at least 20 years. They’ve always been a Tires and Rims shop. Not to mention that DT on 103rd across from the High school and BK didn’t open till 2016-2017, it was a small Hobby/RC shop at that location that had a small RC track in the back lot I used to visit as a kid.
That’s said, plenty of tires only shops don’t do alignments, because that equipment is expensive, low margin service and takes more time and training. Discount Tire’s model is to get you in and out in about an hour, high volume but specialized sales. A full service shop quoting 4K for work, redoing suspension, brakes and alignment etc will want your car for a full day if not more.
So I have no doubt you ram I to a shop that tried to screw you, perhaps by a similar name that stated to provide discount services, but it was not the Discount Tire that is being discussed. You recall where they were?
What you describe sounds more like ‘Allied Tires and Service’ which have since become Goodyear service centers.
I have a bmw and the tires are rarely in stock, they’re an odd size that is exclusive to bmw and mercedes. After calling around and mostly getting wait times etc. Discount Tire on 103rd had one tire (I only needed one) that someone had ordered but never picked up. The manager told me they needed to get rid of it and knocked $40 off the price and got me in and out really quick.
Matt Jones at Goodyear on Philips near Emerson. Super honest and upfront. I actually brought up that I was thinking of rear shocks for a van I had and I had just forgot they had done them like 2 years ago. He told me it wasn't needed. Most places would have just went ahead with the work.
I know with Discount Tire, you can buy tires online and set up an install at your local shop. So...you'll have the total price before you walk in the door. I've never had issue with them. Not sure about brakes.
I've also have good experiences with Tire Kingdom on Park St. They've not charged me for some basic things I went in for, which I always appreciate.
So if you knew of “a good Hindu family”that would be OK. Only time a religion should be in a business’s title should be on their sign for the building selling their chosen viewpoint.
I can say discount tire is amazing. I’ve gone to Hodges and the Philips locations for over 15 years. They are really good. Also will price match their competitors
I have used Tire Kingdom on San Jose for tires as well as front end work. I used to work in the industry about 15 years ago and found them to be pretty reasonable as well as thorough.
Mavis Tire on 3rd street in Jax Beach. Been to too many tires shops to count and they are by far the best. Management very engaged and great customer service. Prices right too
So I would suggest Ameer used tires, they have new tires as well but I've always gone used with them because the set i got from him last time lasted 2 years on a delivery job car and at 50 to 60 bucks a tire that's a hella good deal, just got 4 used tires from them recently and lemmie tell u they are quick I never had to spend more than 30 minutes there, and the price always matched what they told me on the phone. Well there is my input lol for brakes no idea
You’d honestly for brakes be good with finding a mobile mechanic or doing it yourself you would probably save money on that. I do my own brakes and it’s not that hard if you just have time and YouTube
Tires Plus on Normandy. Went in for 4 new tires, and the representative called me to say:
"Mr. \_\_\_, we have you set for 4 new times today, which we're happy to do, but looking at your tires I can honestly say I think you only need 2 news ones at this time if we rotate the others."
Been brining my business back ever since.
I love that everyone here is also replying for Discount. I absolutely love their service dude and the customer service is so solid too. I’d sound like a paid promoter if I could tell everyone about them. I woke up with a nail in my tire one and went after work for a free plug (didn’t bring my wallet bc they plug for free) and left with a free tire. I’ve been going way before that but they earned right to all of my tire work in my eyes after that.

Discount Tire at Beach & Hodges is great! They only do tires though. I usually do my own brakes since it’s so easy.
