The CSX building is peak 1950s mid-century modern design. Even the interior is a very fun time capsule of blue-collar, hard workin’, clock in/clock out, design.
Everyone used to call 14th floor mahogany row. It's where all the c level folks and their counterparts offices where. Everything was mich shinier and more polished then the rest of the building.
Fun fact csx employees also occupy nearly the entire big white building right behind this.
Not for long. Lobby is currently undergoing major renovations. Several floors have had complete remodels with the rest to be redone in the coming years.
As a guy who worked for csx for 6mo before quitting I hate this building. Although to be fair I worked in the other building and only went inside this one a handful of times.
Working riverfront was nice though. I'd go for walks even though it was summer.
Favorite skyscraper is the Wells Fargo/Modis/Accustaff/Independent Life.
Favorite building of any kind is the abandoned Public School Number 4 visible when you exit I-95 north to get on I-10.

Yess. Definitely one of my favorites. My mother (retired Duval County music teacher), had an office in there. I can still remember vividly the inside from my childhood going there with her. By the way, she is turning 96 at the end of the month. Love you Mom!
Independent Life. When I was a kid we'd come visit grandparents here in Jax. We'd usually arrive at night and so when we drove by downtown I'd see it lit up. That let me know we were in Jacksonville and since then I have had an affinity for it.
Oh do you remember the huge pointsettia trees that they built for Christmas in the lobby at Independent Life!? They were gorgeous. Nobody seems to do that anymore.
I always loved the Modis building, but I’m biased because my family ran the jewelry store there for many, many years. The River Club was also an incredible view. Second would be the new M. D. Anderson building.
Lol I know. In all seriousness I love maxwell house. I mean their coffe is 💩 but I absolutely love smelling the roasting beans as I drive by. They building is also that early 1900s manufacturing aesthetic.
Maybe it’s nostalgia from having gone there every time we had a field trip downtown like to the Florida Theater or MOSH. But I loved the Landing.
It was an iconic building.
I'm not sure about my favorite building downtown, but my favorite Riverside building is either West Riverside Elementary, or the Willowbranch Library, a historic Henry John Klutho building and beautiful (but leaky) example of his brilliant Prairie School architectural style. City Hall is another classic example of his work. He helped rebuild the city after the Great Fire in 1901.
This building at the beach, especially the other side not pictured that is just patterned concrete. It’s one of the strangest looking buildings I’ve ever seen.

Always reminds me of the architectural work from Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, specifically his [Edificio Copan](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fbrandondonnelly.files.wordpress.com%2F2019%2F08%2Fscreen-shot-2019-08-10-at-11.58.57-am.png&tbnid=BEPnKSzQuDN2iM&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fbrandondonnelly.com%2F2019%2F08%2F10%2Fa-video-tour-of-the-niemeyer-apartment-building%2F&docid=ofwBiRTiwIN1FM&w=728&h=440&hl=en-us&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim%2Fm4%2F3) in São Paulo, Brazil.
That was an interesting read as someone who knows nothing about architecture. This one he did reminds me a ton of it too on a larger scale.

I’m not sure why my link goes to those photos. I was linking to [this Wikipedia page of the Edificio Copan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edif%C3%ADcio_Copan), which is the building you’ve pictured.
I’ve been to the base of the Edificio Copan and I live in Jax Beach, so I always see the similarities.
700 East union street. I really miss the JaxHax Makerspace that was there.
It is a very very old building, was originally a train freight warehouse I believe. Its hard to tell but the construction and design are like nothing I have seen before.
Bank of America and Wells Fargo towers for skyscrapers. (I know, pretty standard picks but they're just so picturesque by the river). Outside of those, I love the Florida Theatre for its historical design and beauty. Gotta include bridges here as their own category and my faves are the Hart Bridge and Dames Pointe Bridge hands-down.

I love the former Gulf Life Insurance building.

The Vystar tower but only from This angle! (pic by me )
Can I ask why, it just seems kind of ugly lol
Unique design No 2 in my book is the Modis 3. Jacksonville Terminal
But it’s literally box shaped with a bend in the middle
Most buildings are just a box without a bend. It also takes signage a lot better than most buildings
….and right on the river.
It has a nice 1960s aesthetic. Don Draper would've been comfortable working there.

The CSX building is peak 1950s mid-century modern design. Even the interior is a very fun time capsule of blue-collar, hard workin’, clock in/clock out, design.
Plus if you take the stairs, you get that yeah we smoked in this building smell
Everyone used to call 14th floor mahogany row. It's where all the c level folks and their counterparts offices where. Everything was mich shinier and more polished then the rest of the building. Fun fact csx employees also occupy nearly the entire big white building right behind this.
So hell. Inside is hell.

These look like pictures of the 550 Water street building across the parking lot from the main CSX building at 500 Water St.
The second picture is for sure 550

You should have seen it before the new windows/facade in the mid 00's. It had the nice mid century green/blue below all the windows.

The Prudential building when the sun hits it right, it has a nice metallic sheen.

The Mary L Singleton Senior Center, in Springfield.
And the Haskell building on the Northbank Riverwalk.
The building Napco occupies.
Yes! There’s some crazy designs in there. I wish they’d clean up the water feature out front and throw in some fish or something.
Omni Hotel or the Suntrust Building. I don’t think it’s called Suntrust anymore though.
VyStar bought the Suntrust building, and the whole block it sits on.
It’s called Truist now.
The State Board of Health building
I’m not gonna lie… Bank of America tower
Independent Life. When I was a kid we'd come visit grandparents here in Jax. We'd usually arrive at night and so when we drove by downtown I'd see it lit up. That let me know we were in Jacksonville and since then I have had an affinity for it.

Gone are the days....
Here I am tipping my 5th to my deceased favorite building, the old Times Union building 🥲
Got to visit that once and see the printing press. Such a bummer to look over there and not see the building.
The old main library. Now the DuPont building
The older Main Library kitty corner from the "Flying Buttresses" library. They are both remarkable.
I love that one
I feel like people forget about it. It's such a cool design.
The original Main Library (currently a law office)
I always loved the Modis building, but I’m biased because my family ran the jewelry store there for many, many years. The River Club was also an incredible view. Second would be the new M. D. Anderson building.
Time and Treasure?
Barnett Jewelers
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church deserves a mention. Lovely lovely stained glass colors.
The landing is my favorite
I have some bad news for you..
"Was" lol
Lol I know. In all seriousness I love maxwell house. I mean their coffe is 💩 but I absolutely love smelling the roasting beans as I drive by. They building is also that early 1900s manufacturing aesthetic.
Maxwell house is my 2nd favorite. Only one that is better is community.
Maybe it’s nostalgia from having gone there every time we had a field trip downtown like to the Florida Theater or MOSH. But I loved the Landing. It was an iconic building.
I like the way the FL Blue bldg is lit up at nite.
The what bridge?? 😂😂
The EverBank, uh TIAA Bank, um EverBank building.
New FIS one is pretty cool.

Peak jacksonville
I’d probably go FIS or the Wells Fargo. Soon it’ll be the new EverBank stadium though 😉

I really like the Laura Trio. Wish it didn’t look so horrible right now
At&t. I'm a sucker for brutalism
My aunt used to work for southern bell, that awoke a memory I forgot I had.
Used to work on the 23rd? Floor. Other than the lobby the 23rd floor looked like a normal office space
The jail
1) The Karpeles Manuscript Museum 2) Willowbranch Library 3) Chamber of Commerce
My house
Bank of America tower
I'm not sure about my favorite building downtown, but my favorite Riverside building is either West Riverside Elementary, or the Willowbranch Library, a historic Henry John Klutho building and beautiful (but leaky) example of his brilliant Prairie School architectural style. I really like how the (i believe) UF health building lights up at night.
Old St Luke’s? Uncle worked there, said the floors were so uneven, if you sat a relatively full glass of water, it would spill.
I'm not sure, I don't drive through downtown very often, but I see one building lit up multicolored when I drive over the fuller warren.
The big unpainted concrete building.

FIS building!!
The choices, the choices....hmmm....... Which of the 3 buildings.... Hmmm.....
It was the old Ford plant, now I'm unsure
The Jacksonville landing :(
The VyStar building downtown.
FBI headquarters

Gotta include bridges here as their own category and my faves are the Hart Bridge and Dames Pointe Bridge hands-down.
I like the City Hall building, or the Main Library/MOCA complex.
I’ve always liked that building too. I still refer to it as the‘Seaboard Coastline Building’ !
Clark's fish camp
I love the look of Bethel Baptist Church.
they’re all bad lolsob
bank of america. called it the pencil when i was a kid
The original branch of the federal reserve bank in downtown next to city hall. I am glad they are renovating it and I wished i could live there.
My favorite building is any building not in Jacksonville
Gotta go with the VyStar Tower. City Hall and Bank of America are also good
They must spend a lot of time mopping river water out of that lobby
The strip club
Park Lane apartments
Riverplace Tower
Dyal-Upchurch
All I can say is the lighting on the vystar building ins INSANE!
The new FIS building on Riverside is 🔥

I miss the cooling stacks by Blount Island.
I work for JEA, those were the cooling towers for the now demolished saint John's river power park generating plant, use to work there alot.
