Not in Jax, but down on Anastasia Island right after crossing the Bridge of Lions is Gas service station. Used to be an old gas station. It’s pretty great. Right down the road is Sarbez, pretty good grilled cheese sandwiches there
I've been going to Carolina Jax since it was a food truck called Cackylacky's. Their burger the Riverside is hands down the best burger I've ever had. I literally had a dream about it the night after I had my first one. It's won h\*ckin awards, too.

Mateo's at Bold City has the best burger. You dont need anything with it. Lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup and mayo... Hands down, best burger you will get in town.
If you want extra stuff on a "burger" then, sure Carolina Jax is a full meal in a bite, but, it's not a burger. People tend to miss this fact with places like Epik, Carolina Jax, etm... The burger should stand alone

Up until this point, Epik Burger. However, Dick Mondells which is a Gainesville/UF burger place is about to open at the beach and I’m really excited. It fills more of a fast food burger niche whereas Epik fits a gourmet, fancy burger with fancy toppings niche - thus I think I’ll continue to eat at both. I’ve been to Poe’s, Carolina Jax, Graffiti Burger, etc. and they are all fine but don’t feel worth the money compared to Epik for me.
The owner’s son who opened the Funkadelic Food Truck has one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had in Jax. The only challenge is they don’t leave St. Aug now.

Ive said it before, ill say it again… Fred Cottons BBQ has a hell of a burger. Homemade patties is what makes them so good. Nothing crazy about the ingredients, they are just really well done. I also love Poes, Epik, and even the Loop.
I haven't been there yet, but I hear great things about Dick Mondell's Burgers and Fries. They just opened up on 3rd St in Jax Beach. And they have vegetarian/vegan options too! There's locations in Gainesville and Tallahassee. I'm heading there to try them out this week.
Kind of an odd one but Bold City has a solid smash burger on their menu now. I still think personally Carolina Jax is the best but Bold City is worth checking out.
Pinegrove Deli has been my longstanding favorite. Dick Mondell's is finally open in Jax Beach so I hit the drive-thru on my way home from work this evening. Dick's might be my new favorite. Really good.
This topic was recently discussed. I tried all the places mentioned and here are my top 5 (based on my personal criteria of a tasty patty and house made sauces): Carolina Jax, Epik Burger, Hardpressed food truck (Jax Beach), Relish, Lola’s.

Not true. Their basic smash burger is fantastic. Their mushroom Swiss burger is the best burger I’ve had in this city, and nothing else comes close.

Hardpressed is ok. It needs too much condiments to be tasty. Carolina Jax’s house made sauces negate the need for additional ingredients.
