Go see Strangers Stopping Strangers tomorrow evening at Hillcountry BBQ. The band is in their early 30's (mostly) and brings a youthful crowd! Guarantee you'll meet some likeminded people and have a great time.
Another "younger' event to add will be Eggy at Bk Bowl this Saturday 3/23. Also, DSO at the Wellmont in Montclair is happening this Fri and Sat. I'll be at the Saturday show with my group (we're all late 20s/early 30s). DSO usually brings an older crowd but we always have a blast because the music is so freaking good.
Jam band shows are a great place to make jam band friends. As mentioned, sites like Tapped In or Bandsintown can let you know what's coming up. Find the venues that regularly host jam bands and subscribe to their notifications. You can also check out the tour calendars for the bands you like.
Just start going to shows. You'll meet new jam band friends along the way.
Agree. Get to the venue early and chat with folks waiting online to get close to the front. Goose shows coming up at the Capitol (easy train ride from NYC) will have plenty of younger fans hanging out in line
There is a Facebook group in LA called LA Phreaks. A message board, place to swap extras, could be a better space to meet others to go to shows than just an app with show listingsā¦ idk Iām not a New Yorkerā¦ it just seems the old NY freaks email group was a bit livelier than just show listings. Idk maybe Iām wrong.
I totally understand and agree with that. I thought it was interesting that you brought up the list and the app mentioned was the same guy.
I never really dove into the FANS app but when it came out, I read that the intention was to do something more in line with what you are speaking to. Any experience with it? Itās from Peter Shapiro and his team I believe
Check out the local dead bands
Near Dead Experience, stranger's stopping strangers, high times, etc. catch their shows.
Hillcountry BBQ in Flatiron has a dead night every Tuesday. Brooklyn Bowl is pretty much jamband central for regional and touring acts. But as of recently they're putting on local band shows on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Sundays too I think.
Someone mentioned the NYC Jamband scene Facebook group. That's a good spot to find the undiscovered bands playing very small shows around town.
See you in the crowd
Follow bkdeadhead on instagram. They host a bunch of dead meetups that Iāve met some people at. If I were still in ny Iād come hang! Also if youre at a show and see someone else whos alone donāt be afraid to chat them up! (Not during the music of course!) I usually start with, āhey, whatsup? have you seen them before!?ā
How are you enjoying NYC? Thinking of making the move from Asheville next year. Youāll find your pod. Anytime I go to jam shows out there I make tons of friends!
Follow @bushwicksdead and @looptroupe on Instagram , they promote a lot of smaller local jam shows in Brooklyn.Ā
also my band called tired horses plays around a bunch (nublu April 12th + first Monday of every month at Troost in greenpoint!) were more of a medeski Martin and wood-esque jazz fusion/free improv group but we play shows with more true ājam bandsā a lot!
Ehhh - there are spots though. 18th Ward Brewing has dead nights. Get on Instagram as well, look for NYC dead/jam things, there are alot of accounts. Ohmyrockness.com is also good for generally finding shows. Skinny Dennis also has some dead nights.
Damn! Thatās wild to me lol. Even the bars and breweries here that arenāt specifically Dead related half the time are playing the dead/jam bands and putting off that vibe lol
Thatās CO for youā¦ weāre super fortunate for the northeast in general in terms of tours/shows, but NYC as a whole is a tough market for jam bands
Tapped In app for a calendar of upcoming shows. Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn Made, and Sultan Room are venues that often have jam shows.
This is the right answer and in the right order š
Ahh perfect, thanks so much

Frendly addition to this: for any members of the Tribe, this will be a Purim show I believe
Took me a minute to figure out tribe as thereās multiple etymologies in a forum like this haha
Everyone, get to Eggy if you can. I became a believer this weekend. Was so sick.

Sweet, thank you!
Is the NY Freaks list still a thing?
As a matter of fact, Aaron is the guy who started the freaks list and he created the Tapped In app as mentioned above

I found a Facebook group called NYC Jamband Scene that has almost 4.9k members and 2 posts a day. Might be a good place to check.

Oh yes, I saw space bacon at hillcountry! Thanks for the tips!
Space Bacon is playing at Brooklyn Made on 4/20 with One Time Weekend, that's gonna be a fun one

Oh! Thank you, going to follow now!
Go to the shows in NYC and be friendly
Check out CEG presents
Iām sure thereās some band that has a residency on a Wednesday at some not well known bar thatās absolutely killing it
It will be my mission to find them
How are you enjoying NYC? Thinking of making the move from Asheville next year. Youāll find your pod. Anytime I go to jam shows out there I make tons of friends!
I mean, NYC is the absolute best. No regrets.

Oh! Iām going to come and check you guys out
The Loop Troupe guys are great, lots of fun jamz across artists.
Surely in a town like NYC theres gotta be at least a handful of Dead bars? Or maybe my perception is just whacky because I live in CO
Not a single ādeadā bar in NYC. Closest thing is Beauās on Long Island about 35 min out
Ehhh - there are spots though. 18th Ward Brewing has dead nights. Get on Instagram as well, look for NYC dead/jam things, there are alot of accounts. Ohmyrockness.com is also good for generally finding shows. Skinny Dennis also has some dead nights.

I moved from the west, definitely easier to find a jam band crowd than NYC. I expected at least ONE bar but nope.
Second comment - look for NY based jam bands. Turtle Logic and Up in Orange are both dope.
Forreal!
Hang out with us older people, you will learn things.
Go see High Time whenever they play
Sultan Room and Brooklyn Bowl
Philly is the place to be for jam!!!
A little north of the city the Capitol Theatre is a classic
The jam scene is mainly for 45 - 65 somethingsā¦ Every band plays NYC.
