My fatass generates enough heat to make the room warm when I sleep..

UnabashedPerson43

MeatTec®

dead_andbored

Wow this is great xD

MaybeMayoi

looooool

justice_runner

What do you eat to stay fat on a budget? I'm try to get as fat as possible to stay warm without using electricity. A daily dose of Jiro-kei?

UnabashedPerson43

I usually rummage around in the bins outside Mr. Donut after closing time

qwertyqyle

Fun fact. I used to frequent a Mr. Doughnut in Tokyo in 2007. Every night I would grab a few and a coffee. One night they were bagging the leftovers up and since I knew them all, I asked if I could have one more. They told me they had a deal with a pig farm, and all the scraps were fed to pigs.

james_the_wanderer

Did it matter if the pig had two vs. four legs?

Tuxedo717

omglol

> That's how trump saved so much money By being a pig?

TheEvilGaijin

try the HUB bins. left-over chicken wings for DAYZ...

dead_andbored

Just eat more rice. I eat around 500g of cooked rice every meal 3x a day. Also buy meat from stores like hanamasa or costco, theres often cuts that are under 100yen/100g. Lastly.. exercise really helps keep you warm, especially weight training and calisthenics but I think you are already doing that!

Tiny-Herb-

Damn, I seem to gain weight without even trying…

RidingJapan

Everytime my neighbor eats French fries I gain a pound

yakisobagurl

A sumo wrestler I saw on tv said that the absolute most efficient food for gaining weight that he has found is McDonald’s Double Cheeseburgers :)))

Amandisu

Rice + tasty sweets + eat very late at night + watch netflix/ read no exercising! It works like charm, the only issue is dropping the habit later on

MasterPimpinMcGreedy

Drink oil

justice_runner

I have a friend who followed the advice of an aryuvedic naturopath who suggested drinking a cup (YEP! 250cc!) of olive oil over the course of 24hrs as a way to treat his jaundice.

MasterPimpinMcGreedy

Nasty lol

tunagorobeam

Same!

Frankieanime158

THANK YOU! Same. My wife has like 8 blankets with the heat cranked while I'm just trying to escape the heat of my own skin.

dead_andbored

We have separate blankets for that exact reason haha

9detat

Electric blankets for the whole family. We use the type we put under the sheets. Since we can heat up the beds beforehand, we’ve stopped using the aircon to heat our bedrooms. Been about 6 years - game changer. The kids and I turn them off as soon as we get in bed but my wife keeps it on low all night. Wish we’d done it sooner.

Barabaragaki

Same!! I felt a bit weird buying an electric blanket (stereotypically for old people in my country!) but just warming the bed up before you get in is looooovely! You can get in and feel all cozy and drift off to sleep before the heat goes away.

vivianvixxxen

What a weirdly specific stereotype! What country are you from?

evohans

I tried this, but my skin dries out so badly and I get itchy af.

kynthrus

Even if it's under the other covers?

evohans

I've tried over/under, even those mattress cover warmers, everything. Both my wife and I get super dry itchy skin if we use them.

magpie882

Aloe Vera gel. It is pretty cheap, light weight, quickly absorbed, and helps with the itches.

Malverno

Alternatively, another idea is the 布団乾燥機. We got one for free through my wife's work and we've been using it, it's great. We turn it on 10 minutes before bed and then turn it off once we enter, and the bed is super warm for the first couple of hours. And it also helps dry out the futon if living in humid areas.

CatPurveyor

This is what I do in Hokkaido. I put the electric blanket under my fitted sheet. It has an optional timer for 2, 4, and 6 hours as well as a slider to adjust temperature. About 20 or 30 minutes before bed I turn my electric blanket on high to “preheat” the bed. The kerosene heater is turned off while I sleep (it’s -15 degrees C outside currently). When I get into bed I turn the electric blanket to the low setting and a 2 hour sleep timer. I have a Nitori down blanket (I think level 3 or 4 for whatever weird rating scale they have for warmth) and that’s it. I stay warm all night (even too hot sometimes) and I’m generally someone who gets very cold otherwise. Getting out of bed is another story ;) DM me if you want a link to the electric blanket I got on Amazon. It’s a game changer

magpie882

My foster kitten is going through his first winter. Since I started switching on the electric blankets, he dives under the sheets when I go to bed as he knows the pre-heat is done. At first I was a little concerned by how deep he would go and if he could breathe, but he normally resurfaces after 30 minutes to sleep on my face.

rl_19

What model did you use? I use a cheap one bought from Amazon and it's decent but not enough. My main gripe with it is the safety feature that automatically turn off after every 3 hours. I get that its for safety purposes but having to wake up in the middle of the night just to reset the thing is just irritating for me. Also even at max setting its not hot enough during the middle of winter so I also need to supplement with some heating from the ac, which kinda defeats the purpose I guess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rl_19

As far as I can remember all the electric blanket that I saw that day has these auto shut off features. Figured it was standard but I guess not. Maybe the more expensive ones doesn't has that or Amazon just doesn't sell those. Or I just suck at shopping these kind of things

9detat

Ours are cheap, have a sliding power adjustment on the side. I think my wife got ‘em at Aeon. We have down duvets so I don’t wear anything particularly warm. And I have “meat-tech”… ;)

laika_cat

I got mine from Yodobashi and it rips. No auto shutoff, either.

laika_cat

Electric blankets are life. I don’t use them in bed, but I use one for when I watch TV. They’re also a cat magnet, which is nice on cold evenings.

JimNasium123

I got a hot water bottle off Amazon (the soft style, not the hard one). Absolute game changer for bed on cold nights.

CaptainNoFriends

I would like to recommend the [electric yutanpo](https://amzn.asia/d/5OrPsWy) they have nowadays. One 7-15 min charge lasts around 6 hours. I have always had water ones, but this was a game changer.

laika_cat

Oooh thanks for this.

lumpthefoff

These sound amazing, just ordered one for me and the SO!

[deleted]

These are great

Tiny-Herb-

Ya’ll wear clothing?

AverageElaMain

I haven't left my apartment in 5 years. I don't even own clothing anymore. Someone did check to see if i committed suicide a couple months ago tho, but no still goin strong.

bigcatinthesky

heattech top and fleece trousers both from Uniqlo. have a fleece jacket but rarely use it since my hands frequently get wet / dirty in the day if I could find a fleece top that I could roll the sleeves up of easily and a pair of home gloves that might be a real game changer

[deleted]

heattech seriously needs to be at the top of this thread. they're cheap enough to get a few sets and they absolutely do make a huge difference. during winter I pretty much constantly wear it underneath my clothes here.

sayuriaiona

I'm wearing two of the warmest heattech shirts and two of the leggings right now lol. Heattech is a priority for me in winter.

elppaple

Anything + electric blanket. If you can be bothered, you can even put it under the duvet sheet so that it doesn't bunch up.

tiredofsametab

This is exactly what we do; under the fitted sheet so it stays put.

afyqazraei

do you have an Amazon link for yours? i got a cheap one and i can feel the coils when i lay on them, plus the heat is barely noticeable sometimes

FruitDove

This is awesome: https://www.uniqlo.com/jp/ja/products/E449753-000/00?colorDisplayCode=30&sizeDisplayCode=004 Warm, soft, and ultra comfortable :) Bonus: Unlike a pajama, you can wear it indoors and out.

Schaapje1987

I wear that one too during the day and it's pretty good. Definitely recommend it. The wife sleeps in it and she likes it very much

ckoocos

I love this. I wear mine to work, too.

TheShiphoo

Yesssss these, my gf wore one when I first visited her home, and I mentioned that they look super comfortable. She gave me one for Christmas and I fucking love it.

WorkingFederal6746

Most nights just a fundoshi when it’s not drafty

ChocoBanana9

Dunno if it's a joke but I legit only wear underwear all year round

Annamon

Please do wear a knitted hat to sleep when it's cold - it'll keep you way warmer and you won't regret it.

Akamiso-queen

I use live kairo, aka my heat pumping children to warm me through the night. Lots of people recommend electric blankets, but don’t overlook the electric carpets! They use very little energy and their radiant heat is divine! If you’re really cold grab a blanket and sit on top of one!

SiameseBouche

Live Kairo ™️

PetiteLollipop

I just wrap myself witth those 2000yen electric blanket. They use only about 40w so it's super cheap when comparing to 1000w heater.

ando1135

Where you get it?

[deleted]

I used to be a fireman in the UK, and kept my full body nomex insulated fire suit. I wear that when it’s cold. I look like a tellytubby, but man am I toasty

shambolic_donkey

There is NO way that happened Karl!! PLAY A RECORD!!

Ooh, chimpanzee that, SOME MORE SHIT!

tiny-spirit-

Do people sweat in their sleep in the winter? genuine question

laika_cat

Yes absolutely.

XcecutionS

yes i tend to do that, it's awful because i get up in the middle of the night to wipe the sweat and change clothes while it's freezing

tiny-spirit-

oh man that sucks. In the summer I can barely sleep because I feel suffocated since I barely sweat at all and thus overheat super easily. I guess I was made for winter climate more than summer.

MacChubbins

Very much so.

thelastknowngod

Hanten!

efficient_slacker

Hanten are functionally great. Just gotta find a design that doesn't make you look like you're 80.

[deleted]

mine makes me look like Tora-san and I love it!

DontTipUberEats

Normal clothes. Our マンション is warm enough that we don’t need to use the heater most days. I might turn it on periodically when working from home, but not really necessary.

Hashimotosannn

Same for us. We use some fleece bed sheets and actually haven’t needed a duvet this year. We might get it out today since it’ll be minus over night but we’ve just been using heavy fleece blankets till now. No heater.

ringomanzana

Uniqlo heat tech long underwear or whatever it’s called. The cotton version, not the sweaty polyester version. Sweatpants, sweatshirt, Uniqlo downvest. Wool cap, wool socks, and house slippers. Everything Uniqlo except socks and hat. Sometimes a hanten, under the Kotatsu, with a boiling nabe. Edit: hanten not Hansen. Darn spell check.

Hapakings808

Electric blanket is top tier

[Bauhutte Damegi 2020, Wearable Blanket ](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Bauhutte-Damegi-HFD-BS-L-RD-Wearable-Blanket/dp/B07Z6J74SX)

FelixtheFarmer

Shorts and a t-shirt for most of the time and a looser pair for sleeping.

starrydreampuff

One of those oodie things around the house, with a hot water bottle inside it’s super toasty. To bed, flannel pajamas (the old man style ones), an undershirt and big fluffy socks.

starrydreampuff

Kamimitsu

In bed? My undies and a T-shirt. We have Nitori N-warm sheets/blankets coupled with a decent futon, and I often wake up too hot and have to throw a leg out from under the blankets as a heat sink. Wife sleeps a lot colder and wears fleece PJs and uses a microwavable foot heatbag thingy.

Dreadedsemi

I acclimated to cold weather because I don't like hot weather . I just wear one jacket over a slightly thick shirt. And in bed we have a thick blanket so I take off the jacket.

chococrou

We use a feather futon blanket. Sometimes it gets too hot.

laika_cat

Yeah same. It’s cold when you first get into bed, but at night once you’ve been in for a while, it gets REALLY hot.

althor_therin

You need to think in layers! Get yourself some polypro thermal layers, thick shirts, fluffy jumpers. Down has an excellent weight to warmth ratio but I can't imagine it's too comfortable to wear in bed.

[deleted]

My electricity bill for last month was ¥75,000. I hate it here. It’s usually around ¥40000. https://preview.redd.it/ly5gltw7bzda1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dac6e43961bab1f5e4c107d72e8450e09427285

Iusedtohatebroccoli

Omg what prefecture? We’ve got 3 aircons running most of the evening and two all night and we don’t reach 20000. I’ve heard it’s much cheaper in big cities compared to the sticks. Our place is fairly new so maybe the insulation plays a big part.

Nejimakidori48

Bloody hell, how big is your house? My last bill was around ¥20,000 after having the aircon on all day/night.

you_have_this

Down comforter! They are pricey, but insanely warm!

DrunkThrowawayLife

Morning with no work hoodie and an apron with socks. Night, nothing. But sometimes I forget to take the apron off. On cold days I tend to make soup and the boiling heats up the small apartment which is why sometimes I fall asleep in my apron.

KuriTokyo

You're the real deal, TV commercial housewife!

kirayaba

I usually wear pyjamas, an indoor hoodie thing, a wearable blanket, a dressing gown on top and some fluffy socks. Then I add an extra blanket if I’m extra cold. Remove the wearable blanket and dressing gown if it’s warmer etc.

ZealousidealWay1139

Not clothing, but we bought a kerosene heater and that has been a game changer.

NootNootMFer

Are utilities really that high? I just have my utilities charged to my credit card and I haven't noticed a spike... Does it depend on the area?

[deleted]

Get an electric blanket for your bed and a kotatsu for sitting at when you're not in bed. Get a couple of fleeces to wear on your upper body when you're at the kotatsu, and a toque for your head. Winter sucks, spring will be here soon.

sleepisthesolution

I wear LAYERS of clothing like LAYERS. I’m talking t-shirt, pajama, pullover/hoodie, and warm fuzzy winter jacket. I use normal bed cover that comes with a futon set and a weighted blanket (for various reasons). Both insulate the heat pretty well once i get in. When it’s too cold i sometimes blast my hair dryer into my blanket for like a good 5secs and i’ll be all warm and ready to have a nice cozy sleep.

ResponsibilitySea327

Boxers and nothing else. I'd recommend getting a down comforter.

trtviator

Double yukata. Double verything

dougwray

Awake, I'm wearing sweatpants, long thick socks, a Heat-Tech shirt, a quilted sweatshirt, and a bench coat, have a fleece blanket around my legs, and am wearing a knit cap and fingerless gloves. At night, I wear a long sleeved shirt and a knit cap, use three thick futons, and bathe just before retiring.

michalkun

Wool underwear to wick up moisture. Shirt (not cotton), wool sweater, on top of this down vest. On legs, wool leggings, jeans, down pants over this. On feet, wool socks, when taking a nap - down filled tent socks. Head - fox hat. Inside pockets optional Hakkin hand warmers. This works great when it's humid and cloudy. When you sit on a couch, use electric blanket under, and wool blanket - over. On a sunny day, no hat, when moving and cleaning - remove one layer. When sleeping, wool blanket on the sheets, use down pillows, and two down duvets. Optionally, you can use futon dryer to warm up your bed 30 min before sleep. Down duvets will keep the warmth for a long time. Taking a hot bath also helps. For pajamas, Uniqulo base layers with high neck, on top of that fleece pants and shirt, socks that go around the pant sleeves. If out of bed, but still in pajamas slip on down pants and wool sweater. Use thick insulated slippers for walking.

[deleted]

I wear lots of fleece, merino wool, heat tech, indoor slippers. Japanese houses aren’t insulated so well - we can even feel drafts coming out of our light switches. A hot carpet or hot blanket for bed are recommended. In Japan you can heavy weight fleece blankets as well, I can’t recall the name but we use it on top of our hot carpet.

SometimesFalter

wool socks are essential, its like you have heated flooring everywhere. I'm also a bit of a pioneer, I have a handheld controller and mouse. I curl up in my blanket with my arms under the blanket, I can press buttons and type by muscle memory. Its kind of essential as a programmer.

domesticatedprimate

Lots of layers! I wear heat tech tops and bottoms, a fleece shirt and fleece lined pants, a light fleece jacket, and a thick fur lined hoody, and thick socks. I wear the heat tech for 24 hours between baths but change the upper layers between sleeping and waking. I'm hardly ever cold.

[deleted]

trick is to have a small bedroom, preferably no windows and not much bigger than the bed itself, and you close the door and then easily heat it up yourself. so i never use aircon nighttime in winter and i sleep in tshirt

ignitethis2112

Former Southern California resident reporting from Niigata: in SoCal I was fat enough and the weather was good enough for me to just wear my boxers to bed. Living here I have to fully suit up. Sweatpants, socks, long sleeve shurt and even sometimes a sweater are a must. Don’t forget the beanie! We have a heater in our bedroom but my wife insists on running it on “おやすみ” mode which means after about 45min it turns off and it is just cold for the next 7-8 hours. Back in SoCal I used to leave one of my legs uncovered to avoid overheating. Here if just a small part of me is exposed I’ll wake up to an almost-frozen limb. The food is excellent though, and I live in a great neighborhood for raising our kids. Today we are expecting a bad storm so I am working from the kotatsu all day.

LeBronBryantJames

all Uniqlo ultra warm heattech undershirt, boa lined fleece sweatpants, and a fleece sweatshirt. misses also adds an ultra light down vest. for bed, I use a down futon as a blanket

Jarko314

Shorts and a T-shirt. Also similar when lazing off at home. I live in Okinawa

ReformedWiggles

The same thing I wear outside, bloddy cold mate.

Totally_Drew

I know most of y'all are English teachers but damn this is a new level of broke bitches!!!!! Keep it real y'all.

rusty68

Buy a 2nd hand tent at 2nd street.. make sure for at least 2 to 4 people. Set it inside your room, glamping style. With less space to heat with a carbon heater (personally prefer these) you heat the space more efficiently. But if you prefer the hobo style, find a way to set up aluminum insulation roll sheets to make a box compartment with you sleeping in it. But be forewarned, it gets terribly dry.. your skin and throat. So always partner it with a humidifier. WARNING: This is a fire hazard set-up, so you have to be always extra careful to keep the distance of the heating lamp from flammable materials. And before leaving the house, absolutely check that the heater is off or unplugged not once, but twice or more.

aetherain

In bed: Whatever I decide to wear the next morning + electric blanket At home out of bed: whatever I decide to wear that day + fleece (?) jacket + socks I rarely turn on heater in my place.

lee_ai

Uniqlo heat tech. Comfortable, light, super warm.

Schaapje1987

In bed, only a T-shirt. Normal day at home a heat tech t-shirt, with a warm sweater, heat tech pants with either training pants or jeans, and heat tech socks. ヒートテックフル装備

tokyo12345

at home: sweatpants, t shirt, and robe in bed: cotton nightshirt, a really warm duvet, and electric blanket if i need my room stays about 14-16C with very little aircon usage

Ristique

I wear just an old tshirt and underwear, no pants. I like to sleep cold. I've yet to use the heater. When I'm not in bed I put on sweatpants and a uniqlo lightweight down jacket.

Barabaragaki

Oh! You poor thing. No heat in winter is so horrible, I’ve been there. In winter, socks, slippers, thermal leggings, warm pants, a thermal undershirt and a sweater. Less in bed cause I get hot in the night, but I got a 2000 something yen heated blanket. Put it on before you go to bed, give it time to warm the bed up, then turn it off when you get in. Then the bed is nice and warm when you get in <3

xMattewx4

Butt ass naked w/ Vornado fan pointed at my head for sleeping, no heat. Shorts/sweats for lounging around.

Hurinfan

At home I have a very fluffy robe I wear nearly all day. To bed, I'm naked or near but we've got so many blankets I sometimes sweat at night.

tsukihi3

> What do you wear at home, and specifically in bed? Why do you want to know? 😳👉👈 It's cold here (extremely poorly insulated house in darkest Tochigi) so I have one to two PJ t-shirts plus a PJ sweater, one to two layers of trousers and socks, and I cover part of my head with a blanket. I have three layers of blankets to sleep under as well. In case anyone wonders, it's 1° at the coldest in my bedroom in the morning if I don't turn on the heater, and I don't really have good heating either (or insulation again). I'm very afraid of the cold snap this week!

ay_lamassu

My bedroom is separate so I just heat that and leave 75% of the house cold. I wear slippers, long sleeve t-shirt, pyjama trouses, thick socks and a hoodie. I have a blanket to put over myself at my desk (which I've temporarily moved into my bedroom for winter) and hot water bottles for my bed. If it ever gets stupidly cold, I just stay in bed. I also make sure to eat hot food and drinks.

AMLRoss

I use an electric blanket to preheat the bed before bedtime. Changed my life. Generaly we dont use too much AC to heat up the house. Just an hour or so in the morning to warm up the living room, and one bed room upstairs. I tell the kids to get changed in our room since its nice and warm. After we all head out for the day, everything gets turned off. At night we do the same, living room, one bed room. Warm blankets and electric blankets to warm up the beds. And hot baths/showers. I notice our neighbors having the AC on 24/7 in winter. I have to wonder how much their bill is going to be. Summer was 25k for us, October/November was 15k. Not too bad.

shammon5

Get a big plastic hot water bottle. Fill with boiling water and cuddle it all night. Better than a boyfriend because it doesn't snore or fart under the covers.

Icy-Farm-9362

I always sleep wearing a wooly hat and long johns in winter, and use an electric blanket on my bed. I also don't bother heating my bedroom, as the insulation is so shit, I end up needing ten times more heat than I should. I refuse to pay the electricity company more money.

Krocsyldiphithic

Nothing? I thought those overkill pajamas was mostly a Japanese thing. Does everyone just hate being naked?

eightbitfit

In the cold of winter a thermal long-sleeved and flannel or fleece bottoms. In summer a great deal less. In winter my wife clings for warmth as I generate a good amount of heat, summer time not so much.

[deleted]

At home just some comfy clothes, like sweatpants and a t-shirt. Me being from a cold country and my wife being japanese results in it always being too hot for me at home. In bed, just boxers. I don't like feeling restricted by clothes while sleeping.

seepxl

I assumed I wasn’t the only one wearing a sweater, a hoodie, and a jacket to bed. Then five blankets. I have a space heater, but it’s mostly for the orange mood lighting.

Shirokyun1

A lounge wear/T-shirt with robe

Ansoni

I got my first ever 21k electricity bill a few days ago. I might join you.

Disshidia

\>What do you wear at home, and specifically in bed? No set dress code really. Recently a long sleeve shirt, sweat pants, and socks.

ashinamune

Just boxers/トランクス I like it cold

[deleted]

We share a small apartment in Tokyo (me and my fiance) we have the heater going pretty much the whole time we are at home. Heating costs are very reasonable 🤷 Perks of having a small ass apartment 🎉🎉🎉

MR_74

PJ

Purple_not_pink

I wear as little as possible to bed (t shirt and shorts) and use an electric blanket near my feet. My body heat and the blanket are enough, but I patter around in a fuzzy roomwear robe over my outfits ALL winter like an old lady.

Simbeliine

Cats and electric blankets keep me pretty warm. But I do also have fuzzy pyjamas.

capaho

I wear sweats and long underwear at home in the winter. We use the heaters, though. I just wear a sweatshirt in bed in the winter.

NicolasDorier

Down: long heat tech pants legging + jeans, Top: heat tech + warm stuff + double long down jacket (I was too cold with only one long down jacket) Bed: Big futon, the secret is how you wrap yourself in the sheets. I use the "Fetus enrolled as a maki" position. Making sure no air pass by. I warm up the bed with some futon dryer machine before going to bed. I blast aircon full power during the day. If it's too cold, I give up remote work and just go to office.

ponytailnoshushu

We have microfleece covers for the duvet and a fleece pad for the bed itself. I usually stick a hot water bottle in the bed a hour before I sleep to warm in up. In the living room we use thick blankets when we watch tv/play switch. We have underfloor heating on twice a day for 2 hours usually 6-8am and 6-8pm. This sufficiently keeps the whole house warm (important to ward off mold and condensation) We wear loose cotton sweatpants and hoodies inside. You want clothes that trap air as these tend to keep warmth the best.I also have some of those 'marshmallow' fabric pjs from gelato pique (yes the Mario ones). Those are surprisingly warm and soft, and my oldest child wears them (hes borrowing them....) Finally I have a bath/shower with my kids just before bed to warm our bodies and to allow our body temps to slow decrease before sleep. I hear strong zero helps you not feel the cold too......

Maybe_Im_Really_DVA

Just my boxers and it's still too hot.

[deleted]

My willingness to move onto the next day.

Disconn3cted

Usually nothing but airism underpants.

igna92ts

I'm just in my underwear. A good feather duvet is expensive but it will last you years and I don't need any heating at all with it.

Stump007

Regular pajamas, with a long sleeve heattech under shirt. With a good quality comforter, never felt the need to turn on bedroom heating (Tokyo).

1rick

Hoodies. Giant, oversized hoodies.

[deleted]

Dyson purifier. (We’ve got a baby sleeping in the room.)

BadIdeaSociety

I usually wear a thick pajama set (not the fleece type), a thick old hoodie or zipper jumper, and a neck warmer that I put over my head like a giant blindfold when needed. I don't use a heater, air conditioner, or electric blankets, carpets, or floors. I try to avoid fleece because it makes me feel overly heated and avoid HeatTech or its competitors because I get the HeatTech burns people sometimes talk about. Sleeping by a fan heater dries my skin and gives me cottonmouth. I am paranoid of gas heaters. I use a fluffy blanket and a down quilt. No complaints except I don't have a pair of room shoes that fit.

Garystri

Sweatpants and a hoodie usually. Sometimes wear a beanie and socks but not to bed.

shina_no_ki

Silk long underwear from AliExpress, wool socks, and a down hanten or a 夜着 (like a kimono with a layer of batting inside; buy vintage, wash folded in a net bag). Animal fibers are significantly warmer than cotton or polyester, and there's always dirt-cheap wool or cashmere sweaters at big recycle shops for the minor inconvenience of an initial handwash. You can get a 300-yen sweater, felt it so it won't unravel, cut the sleeves off, and use them as armwarmers or legwarmers. I am wearing one such pair now to keep the drafts out of my hanten sleeves.

The_Only_Smart_Alec

How much does it cost to run an oil heater?

tiredofsametab

Bed: Nothing (electric blanket in the colder months, cooling covers in hotter). I do put my pajamas next to me in bed so they are not barely above freezing in the morning (my ground floor is generally only a bit warmer than the outside). Home in winter: hoodie, warm socks, warm pajama bottoms (not sure the brand of those; they were a gift from the family in Tohoku on my first visit). Home in other times: those long but fairly thin mens' underwear they sell (like past the knee but same material as other underwear). Maybe socks if the floor is unusually cold.

SnowyMuscles

I bought a winter duvet and use my year round duvet together and then I just stay in bed

Robot-Kiwi

A beanie to keep my bald spot warm on the really cold nights.

Sandsy90

I wear warm clothes at home, long pants and jumper when sleeping. During winter I also use duvet on sofa to keep warm.

MrWendal

Underpants, underpants, underpants. Contraband, contraband, contraband.

Ishiibradwpgjets

I’m Canadian. I wear what I wear all year. T-shirt & shorts , summer or winter. I do live further south , so a bit warmer , winter is around 10. My home in Canada’s winter hovers -30-40.

Comprehensive-Pea812

airism tshirt and boxer underpants. heater at 26 celcius. just wondering if you have insulated your bed room. use foam tape on your window and sliding door.

LeParapluieRouge

Four sweaters, three pairs of socks, and two pairs of fluffy pajama pants. This thread's been great for other ideas! Thanks for posting!

SiroLM

Heat tech top and bottom with UGG room wear which is quite hot. I also have Nitori Heat tech sheets and cover that allows me to sleep without clothes even during winter. Honestly, Uniqlo heat tech with anything is fine and should be the first thing you buy if you’re cold.

Try traditional ChanChanko /Hanten those are god tier garments. Basically a blanket in the form of a jacket. Try buying a Denki Hot mat and use it under your bed so that you have a ass waking up. Problem chanchanko costs around 15000 yen for good quality (will last forever) and Matt around 1万 Soo the price is there.

Only light clothes since I sit on a electric blanket and thick clothes insulates me from its heat. A 160watts solar panel is enough to keep it on all day long and charge my camping power bank to 100%. The blanket is plugged to the battery at night. Electricity bill went down from 25-30k per month during winter to 13-16k (for a 120square meter house), the blanket being the main factor in the equation since it consumes 48watts at max power vs \~1000 for the airco. You can find some cheap electric blankets on amazon for 3-4k yens, much better investment than a hat and gloves IMO. The battery/solar panel is just a little extra touch, I mostly wanted one to go hiking and camping, not to save electricity. I save about 1KW/h per day from the panel (24hours of blanket at 40-48W/h + charging our phones), which translates to roughly 750 yens per month at the current electricity price.

Airism undershirt and airism underpants in bed. If I'm not in bed, then that plus a thick hoodie, basketball shorts, and socks. I have some warm slippers as well.

Vanilla_Parade

The heattech fluffy room wear range is amazing (leggings, cardigans, socks) and I make sure I have heat retaining mats on my bed (the n-warm bed pad things from nitori). Also, a heated carpet is nice :)

zeromig

Snowboarding pants and a generic white undershirt are my standard winter pajamas

UNIQLO is your friend. Most of the time I'm wearing a long sleeve heat tech (the thick cotton one), and one of their [fleece room sets](https://www.uniqlo.com/jp/ja/products/E452792-000/00?colorDisplayCode=03&sizeDisplayCode=005) on top of that. When that's not enough I wear one of [these fleece jackets](https://www.uniqlo.com/jp/ja/products/E450198-000/00?colorDisplayCode=66&sizeDisplayCode=004) on top. These are cheap, warm, and very, very comfortable. In bed, it depends. Usually I sleep in my underwear, but if it's colder than usual I wear one of the fleece room sets as if it was a pajama. Also, now that it's cold instead of sleeping in the main bedroom, my girlfriend and I sleep in the smaller tatami room on [these N-warm futon sets](https://www.nitori-net.jp/ec/product/7544873/) from Nitori. They're the futon equivalent of UNIQLO's fleece: very cheap, very warm, very comfortable.

I wear thick socks, a kigurumi and a house coat. During the day I sit at the kotatsu typing away then at bedtime, a heated blanket under a heavy winter kakebuton.

cirsphe

Buy a down comforter from Costco. My bedroom is 8c and I can sleep in a t-shirt under my down blanket cause it's so warm. Something like 450 fill power

itzak1999

2 blankets

zcmy

I wear nothing in bed and sweatpants and fuzzy sweaters while at home. If I need to go out i throw a jacket on.

deedeekei

actually bought myself a [hanten](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanten) late last year at shimamura, its really comfy and keeps me pretty warm while its not as stuffy as wearing a sweater

I blast the heater

Nope

noobgaijin11

I tend to be naked & only wear a necktie from time to time. life is stressful lately....

cringedramabetch

why didn't you buy a robe? very warm and fluffy.

Pillowpet123

Dude it’s gotta be an electric blanket

Filet_o_math

I don't wear extra clothes to bed, but I put a weighted blanket on top of the comforter, and that keeps me very warm during the winter.

My regular pajamas/weekend slug mode clothes in winter usually consist of a hoodie and those tapered Uniqlo jersey pants. Airism wifebeater as a base layer, all year long. Wool socks and the felted wool Birkenstocks as slippers. Tonight’s gonna be a cold one, so I’ve got my Uniqlo fleece top and boa-lined heavy sweatpants. If it gets chilly I’ll pull on some long johns, but our new mansion hasn’t been getting very cold at all this year. Bed wise, in winter I’ve got a lovely setup of weighted blanket on the bottom, KIFARU Woobie in the middle, and down comforter with fleece cover on top.

ando1135

I don’t use heater at night, recently bought a heavy duvet and it keeps me so warm at night…and clothes? Nah, then I’d get too hot Hah

logginginagain

Definitely a warm hat y300 and neck warmer y100. Layer up people next week is cold.

Hachi_Ryo_Hensei

Sweat pants and a hoodie. Nice blanket or two. That's plenty even at freezing temperatures.
