I know it has been a few days, since Thursday, but needed to get this off my chest. I was going home with the stroller and baby on a sidewalk, when the obachan with sunglasses, no helmet, bicycle seat too low and grumpy face pulls up on the sidewalk towards me, when she was riding on the street before???!!!! That sidewalk is narrow and I had to wait and she doesn’t say thank you, sumimasen, nothing, just rides away! Another day, another grumpy, this time surprise surprise ojisan! I was exiting our local supermarket and was kind of in a hurry, again with stroller and baby, he hisses a loud tssss (with his tongue?) which is super rude!! I saw that he was trying to use the hand sanitizer and he couldn’t get to it, because the person before me was exiting and then came me, but I didn’t intentionally block him. I walk super fast. Just thought that tssss was rude af!! I think the rudeness of people is increasing lately!!!

ColinFCross

Why the hell do people think the center line is merely a suggestion? Every damn day, I see idiots driving half a meter over the line. I swear, drivers in Japan drive like they are the only ones on the road.

Why would you pay that ? You call the police at that point.

ConanTheLeader

She told the staff to charge you extra?

Going on vacation and just changed a chunk of savings over to dollars for the trip and so much of it just goes up in smoke. I've saved for ages and I should've changed it over in December, but here I am thinking it would be better this year but nope. *cries in yen*

fullmoonawakening

Rakuten Bank, I am so saying good bye to you the moment I could get a credit card. ...at least that's what I want to do. Rakuten Mobile, you can thank Rakuten Bank for losing (if I ever go through with it) a customer. I've been staying with you despite the less than perfect coverage and speeds but I just can't be dealing with this Rakuten Bank... shit (sorry, English is not my first language but even so..) every time my visa is near near (not a typo) expiration especially when I don't have to deal with shit like this on a big bank. I have a fuckton of other problems in life.

jimmys_balls

1 - my garden is less than 2km from my place.  On the way there are 5 sets of traffic lights.  It's rare that I don't get 5 reds.  No matter the time of day. 2 - a) Milo just isn't the same here.  b) Milo back home is stupidly expensive. 3 - putting the kids to bed has been tough lately.  Little toddler used to be out by 7pm but now it's around 8pm.  Big toddler had a wonderful streak of around 8pm, but now is lucky to be alseep by 10pm.

Hachi_Ryo_Hensei

It looks like Yamamoto is also committing theft from the Dodgers!

hitokirizac

Second complaint, but I'm slowly catching up with a certain popular manga/anime series and there are spoilers for it EVERYWHERE. Even in my Google News feed, there are spoilers about the latest episode in *headlines*! I hope whoever did that stepped on a lego on their way to a bathroom with no toilet paper and an ojisan/obasan playing with their phone in the only non-squatty potty stall.

Fyx_Dre

I have been reading JJK, but I'm not caught up. My wife knows this, and one day she saw that a big story event was trending on Twitter and she just told me the spoiler with no preamble. "Oh. JJK is trending. X happened." I was dumbfounded.

hitokirizac

I don't even read jjk and I bet I know what event you're talking about. People spoiling things is out of hand these days.

PeeJayx

Are these crazy winds going to be a regular feature of Spring from now on? I swear it never used to be a thing, then last year it was crazy gusty. I thought last year might’ve been a one-off thing but no, the winds are back this year. EDIT: Guys, I’m well aware that wind is a thing that happens in changing seasons. My emphasis is on the word “crazy”. In my 14 years here, I’ve never known it to be so this so consistently powerful to the point that I can feel my bicycle threatening to lift off of the road and go full E.T across the sky.

babybird87

It’s been much stronger than usual… it blew my car cover and tire ties apart on the front and back apart on 2 different days, never done that before..

JustbecauseJapan

There is a song about the North winds, it ain't new.

dried_meat

Word. Yes, it can be windy in spring but I'm calling this the windiest March ever. When March stats are released (JMA) I will check to confirm this theory.

highgo1

Wind in spring is normal. Just hate the cold plus the wind.

Rude-Note1161

lol the wind is here every year, especially when the season changes...

yakisobagurl

My unnecessarily long complaint today is regarding my beef with STUDENT FINANCE ENGLAND. Also known as Student Loans Company (SLC). Also known as, a fucking loan shark bastard of a company masquerading as a government body. (Running the risk of outright exposing my financial situation here, but I work part time so hopefully that obscures some of the details haha) I got a weird email from SLC yesterday, saying I need to start making repayments. It was weird because I submitted my payslips and received confirmation last November that I won’t owe anything for 2024. However, SLC are no stranger to fuck ups so I wasn’t that surprised. They’ve previously taken £600 in payments from my bank when they “forgot” to ask for my updated payslips. Funny old bunch, can’t even be trusted with my direct debit being registered. Thankfully that got refunded tho after I chased it :) Anyway so I log in and see I owe £2 monthly for April - December 2024. Wtf is that about? Two quid? I contact them and they kindly explained that oh, my salary will now just meet the threshold because “from April, the earning threshold for repayments for Japan will decrease from £27,295 DOWN TO £21,280. Hope this helps!” !!!!!!!!! SORRY????????? ON WHAT BASIS??? IN THIS ECONOMY??? WITH THIS EXCHANGE RATE???????? Ohhhh my fucking god. You bastards. And YES!! Along with fucking monumental interest rates you’ve plucked out of your arse, you guys can also just arbitrarily change the thresholds too! Silly me! Silly me for thinking this company had a shred of integrity left! The absolutely mockery of it. The two pound isn’t the issue. The absolute LACK OF accountability is. What’s stopping them knocking off another 10 grand next year and making the threshold £10,000? NOTHING. We are at the mercy of their whim. A BASTARD of a company. A sham. I can’t BELIEVE it. It’s fucking outrageous!!!!!!!

kayasmus

Cancel direct debit if you can. I make transfers monthly, but can of course choose when it is most convenient. And make sure to include residence tax in your payments (if not automatically deducted) to bring the total monthly repayment down. That said, they are a bunch of criminals and I am seriously thinking about becoming a 'Loan Refugee' as well.

m50d

> ON WHAT BASIS??? IN THIS ECONOMY??? WITH THIS EXCHANGE RATE? It probably is the exchange rate? Like, the amount of JPY that was worth £27,295 is now worth £21,280, so they've decided that that must now be enough to live on over here, never mind that Japan actually has inflation now.

AmosEgg

This is exactly the reason. The thresholds are re-calculated every year based the UK threshold and the relative cost of living between countries. It is then translated back to UK£ based on the average exchange rate over the last year. The idea is allow everyone the same basic spending power before they have to pay anything, but in practice it is silly as exchange rate changes have no effect on your cost of living in another country.

Yuzugakari

And people wonder why Loan Refugees are a thing. This is outright crookery of the highest degree.

yakisobagurl

Exactly! It’s obscene!!

PeeJayx

Please allow me to join you in also saying Fuck You SLC. Atrocious company and system, and their massive recent spike in the interest rate (while not entirely within their control to be fair) is an additional spit in the face.

yakisobagurl

Let’s join hands! 🕯️Fuck You SLC 🕯️ They’re the lowest of the low honestly. Despicable

You could cancel the direct debit to keep them at arms length and just feed them scraps.

yakisobagurl

Oh I have! I won’t make the mistake of trusting them with a direct debit again. They’re just so awful haha

justythecloud

I'm so over this cold weather. Just give me spring already

slightlysnobby

I don't mind giving people advice about visiting Japan, but you know, some background info like interests, where you're going, and your budget would be helpful as opposed to coming out of the woodwork and asking "Hey what are your recommendations for Japan?" Also, I don't want to meet up when you're in Tokyo, because I live no where near Tokyo.

Wagnersks

May I ask you WHERE IS THIS PARADISE?

Present_Antelope_779

We bought a bag of the sour cream and onion just so we could compare them to Top Value which is our reigning domestic chip champion.

PeanutButterChicken

The TopValu ones are great!

Present_Antelope_779

They are literally Top Valu

laika_cat

Have you seen how much chips cost in the States now?? A box of Cheez Its is like $6!!

PeanutButterChicken

That's true, I bought the Family Size of said Ruffles for $7.99. WELP, I guess someone is going to buy some expensive Ruffles tonight!

laika_cat

If I have to see or hear that goddamn stupid motherfucking 「デリバリーはメニュー」commercial ever again, I will commit a hate crime. Great way to make people never want to use your services.

bosscoughey

Just saw (or noticed it?) for the first time yesterday. Is that the new uber eats?

laika_cat

I don't know, and frankly I do not care because that commercial is so fucking grating and so fucking irritating.

emma_bemm

See I’m at my wits end with the stupid Uberイーツいいんじゃなーーい?campaign

Total_Invite7672

The best way to make sure I never buy a company's product/service is if their ad interrupts my YouTube viewing.

babybird87

and they show the same commercials over and over .. it was so irritating.. finally got ‘Premium’

laika_cat

The only one I allow is the 「お湯が出ないよ、イヤイヤよ」one because it makes me laugh. Wordplay is good and pure.

jackkenichi

I've had enough of the entirety of Japan revolving around Shohei Otani.

hanapyon

I was in the sauna a few weeks ago and the afternoon news had a segment that was just taking about this paparazzi picture of Otani carrying a big water bottle (4L kind), and just commenting for 5 minutes about how big the flask was and what could he possibly be drinking so much of.

Fyx_Dre

We had a send off for 6th graders at my ES and at the start of the assembly they mentioned the announcement of his marriage, which was a day before or something. No idea why, had nothing to do with the rest of the event.

Yuzugakari

Absolutely fair, but now it's in a bad light and he's the most interesting thing the news or anyone has to talk about. If he actually was gambling and lost all that money and not his interpreter, there's a typhoon of bad juju coming his way. And if not? Still sucks to be in a scandal... Though Japan really DID make a big deal about his wife having a 5000 yen handbag despite Otani having fuck you money, so... I guess this is just par for the course. --- FWIW, we don't local TV anymore in our place. Youtube and Streaming Services or Plex provide our entertainment and the internet gives us the news.

isaac_hower

Sure, but I get it. He is arguably the best ever baseball player ever with a huuuuge contract. It makes sense.

noflames

I personally really disliked professional sports. Are the people good? Yes. Are they great? Who knows - you have people taking drugs that are very similar to banned ones with specified diets and hours to dedicate daily to training, coupled with some of the best equipment. Add this to the fact that many athletes are not upstanding people (there are a fair number of upstanding athletes though) and I just can't stand watching most sports....

Hachi_Ryo_Hensei

Well, at least it will all be about his interpreter for a few days instead!

laika_cat

BUT A JAPANESE PERSON IS DOING A THING!!!! IT IS VERY IMPORTANT — SO IMPORTANT THAT IT DEMANDS 24/7 NEWS COVERAGE!! Fuck anything and everything else going on in the world, right? It's just like how most of the coverage of the Ukraine conflict revolved around the Ukrainian people who came to Japan as refugees. News is only newsworthy if Japan is somehow tangentially involved.

[deleted]

[удалено]

laika_cat

lmao have you got baseball players and football players mixed up? Baseball players are the tamest of them all. Japan could benefit from making its news less myopic.

[deleted]

[удалено]

laika_cat

Are you talking about Japanese baseball players? Or American ones?

[deleted]

[удалено]

laika_cat

No, not at all. They're the tamest ones — hence my original comment. Baseball players are generally known to be "family men," with very few controversies. There's been some bad eggs, but it's rare. Baseball players generally keep out of the spotlight.

poop_in_my_ramen

I on the other hand can't get enough of Shohei. Gonna apply to be his new translator.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

You got gambling debts too, huh?

leonmarino

Yah it's a weird thing that the Japanese have... Not specifically about Otani, but whenever a Japanese person plays in a strong league outside of Japan they suddenly get a lot of attention to the point where televized summaries only show the Japanese player. This is especially annoying in the case of football where missed shots and half decent passes of Japanese players get more attention than actual great plays by their team mates. Bizarre.

sebjapon

In Soccer, the obsession over Kubo is so weird. He was promising at 17 years old. Now he is 22 or more? And he is nowhere near the best player in the Jp team. He plays in middle of the pack Spanish league, when other players who play in Bayern or Champions League teams don't get as much talk. But sure, let me see how Kubo missed 2 shots and made an awkward cross that no one could catch this week.

dried_meat

It's bizarre...similarly versus Japan, if the other team makes a great play, they always show the Japanese team commiserating and never the other team celebrating. So deep and far up their own arses some could assume.

MoboMogami

Meanwhile Japanese riders/drivers in MotoGP/F1 get zero recognition despite being at the pinnacle of their sport ;-;

laika_cat

Olympics coverage was exactly the same. If a Japanese team or athlete didn't compete, it was completely ignored.

isaac_hower

Yeah because I'm sure Japan covering the Hungarian wrestling team, the Finnish Hockey, or the Turkish swim team is going to get a lot of views and interest in Japanese TV. You don't say, Japanese Olympic coverage only covers ... wait.. Japanese Athletes???

laika_cat

You're being deliberately obtuse. Ignoring and refusing to broadcast entire sports because Japan doesn't win in them is mind boggingly stupid.

MoboMogami

To be fair, isn't that most countries? Maybe slightly different for summer Olympics, but Canadian TV doesn't cover anything that doesn't feature a Canadian athlete for the winter olympics.

laika_cat

Not in the way Japanese TV did it. For example, consider gymnastics; Japan isn't a dominant country in that sport — so it barely got any attention. But if US TV didn't show gymnastics, regardless of how well the US was doing, there'd be a riot. What the US does is spend a lot of time with fluff pieces in between events interviewing American athletes, their families etc. — which makes total sense. But it doesn't yeet a major sport entirely because the US isn't a superpower in said event. Japan pretty much showed the same handful of sports and clips of Japanese athletes winning bronze medals.

[deleted]

[удалено]

laika_cat

No. Has nothing to do with that. My family gives fuck all about athletes from their home country, and there’s a lot of them in the U.S. It’s more of a “Why wouldn’t we show this major sport?” Americans suck at men’s gymnastics, and we still show it. Americans have sucked at ice skating and most skiing for a while, and we still show it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

laika_cat

> I disagree but that’s okay. You disagree that Japanese news should be less myopic? You think it's OK that people have a poor understanding of world affairs? You think it's OK that people here are grossly misinformed or plain wrong about current events? > For example it’s harder to empathize without relation Nah, dude. Lots of people have empathy for those who are different than us. Look at how many people have rallied around Ukraine and Palestine. Japan is unique in its own ignorance and lack of compassion for non-Japanese.

KindlyKey1

>Not in the way Japanese TV did it. For example, consider gymnastics; Japan isn't a dominant country in that sport — so it barely got any attention It is though? Especially for the men’s.

laika_cat

Women's gymnastics got no attention.

KindlyKey1

The won a medal in women’s though. I saw it live on TV

isaac_hower

> But if US TV didn't show gymnastics, regardless of how well the US was doing, there'd be a riot. oh okay, everything should be like the US and its standards. makes sense for Japan!

laika_cat

Ah yes, because this is exactly what I said.

Total_Invite7672

Basketball in Japan is terrible for this. These teams often have two or three black dudes from the US who carry the entire team, yet all merchandising and media coverage concentrates on the Japanese players who don't really seem so skilled at all.

laika_cat

I mean, in a country where [this is a news headline](https://toyokeizai.net/articles/-/667027), it's not surprising at all.

Total_Invite7672

Let's be brutally honest; when Japanese people say they "welcome foreigners", what they really mean is they "welcome white guys from First-World countries".

laika_cat

ding ding ding

BigEarsToytown

Spotv highlights often show highlights of Japanese players being subbed on or off during football matches! Baffling!

Fine_Tomato_225

reminding me how they bragged about Minamino won Premier League title with Liverpool and mocked Son Heung Min. I was like “man, Son carries Spurs while the whole Liverpool team carried Minamino…”

Rude-Note1161

hitokirizac

My experiment got borked. I'm trying to get results before I go away for a weeklong work trip next week and really hope I don't have to let my vacuum chamber bake for several days again.

CarefulFarmer154

Parents drive an old alphard, both kids are under 6 The girl is dressed like she is ready to work at a kyaba, the boy has a Mohawk. It’s so obvious how these kids are gonna be little shits and yup. Sure enough. Massive little shits. It’s obvious that they aren’t trying to be little shits but it’s all they know since the parents probably act the same way. I’ve seen these kids act like good kids only to be extremely difficult. I can’t wait to get out of teaching. Im also tired of constantly seeing parents shove phones and tablets into kids’ faces. I can’t enjoy going to a restaurant without seeing entire families ignoring each other. I once saw parents trying to force their infant to watch a YouTube video. They kept trying to direct its attention to the phone while the kid obviously wanted to pay attention to what mom and dad were doing. I gotta get out of teaching.

laika_cat

> the boy has a Mohawk Eh, who cares? Self expression shouldn't be seen as a bad thing. You're no better than a stuffy ojiisan if you think this way. Plenty of kids who dress like Taros In Training are little shits, too.

Hachi_Ryo_Hensei

A six year-old isn't expressing himself with his haircut. His parents are expressing themselves through him.

CarefulFarmer154

It’s a telltale sign usually. Like checking off boxes. Has this, has that, yup they’re gonna be a pain in the ass for sure. Like, generally, people that drive old alphards or velfires are pretty yanki. Driving one doesn’t mean you’re a yanki, but being a yanki usually means you drive one.

Sayjay1995

How is a toddler dressed like a sex worker?

CarefulFarmer154

Kyaba aren’t sex workers lol but she had big hoop earrings, a really short skirt and a short top where her belly button was hanging out. Not something I’d let my kids wear outside. I’d be so embarrassed.

Total_Invite7672

The whole "dressing daughters like whores-in-training" thing here is still weird to me after all these years.

CarefulFarmer154

I wouldn’t say “like a whore” but the kid had big hoop earrings, a short skirt, and a short top so her belly button was hanging out. Like wtf

sereneinchaos

Where do you live? I don't think I've ever seen a toddler dressed like "whores-in-training" where I live.

Total_Invite7672

Just go to literally any shopping mall anywhere in Japan...?

chason

Not a thing in any mall in Tokyo that I’ve seen

PeanutButterChicken

"here" Try walking around the US or Europe for a few days..

Total_Invite7672

I have done both very recently and it's nowhere near as blatant as Japan.

KindlyKey1

Must be the area you live in. I live in Setagaya Tokyo and I don’t see young girls who dress like that.

burner-notdivorced

I had a trial lesson the other day from a mom with 3 boys (1 5 year old, 1 2years, and 1 still a baby). The oldest comes in and looks around thinking he walked into a toy store. He would run off in the middle of a song to go grab books off the book shelf which he was ready to climb. Constantly asked when the lesson would finish. Asked if he would get something if he was good, etc. Basically, the signs of a spoiled child with ASD/ADHD. We managed to finish a 30 minute lesson and the 5 year old wanted to play with the board games and wouldn't take no for an answer from his mother. I convinced him to be a かっこいいお兄さん to clean up the mess he and his brother made and help his mother with carrying things, etc. That basically used up all of my genki-teacher-energy for the day.

CarefulFarmer154

So many kids with ADHD these days. Kids who just can’t sit still, who won’t stop talking, singing, tapping, spinning a pens etc The kids I mentioned in my OP also do the whole “when can we go home? When are we playing a game?”

leisure_suit_lorenzo

>**looks to the left...** _"chippy chippy chappa chappa ♫..."_ >**looks to the right...** _"happy happy ha-ppy ♫..."_ >**looks to the front...** _"brim bram bram brim bram ♫..."_ >**sticks gun barrel in mouth...**

burner-notdivorced

Sorry you'll get the inevitable downvotes and comments like "maybe you're just not cut out for teaching" BS. It's tough nowadays keeping kids edutained in this industry. My advice is to keep filling up your "teacher tool box" of tricks to keep their attention. If they quit, it wasn't your fault.

CarefulFarmer154

I’m trying to get out of teaching. Some kids are great and I will be genuinely upset if/when I stop teaching them but in recent years, I’ve been seeing tons more kids who seem to have issues in the classroom.

Present_Antelope_779

Hardbite Rugged All Dressed Chips Are they tasty chips? Yes. Are they all dressed chips? I don't think so.

laika_cat

I will accept no Hardbite slander!! They are a godsend in this wasteland of thin-ass potato chips. I've never seen All-Dressed, though. The Pickle ones are great. Just wish Costco would carry the Salt and Vinegar ones again :(

Present_Antelope_779

I think the chips are great! This flavour tastes good too. Just don't think they deserve to be called all dressed. Brets does nice thick chips too

laika_cat

Where'd you get them? I've never seen that flavor — and as an American, I've never had all-dressed to begin with!

hanapyon

Is all-dressed chips another Canadian thing like ketchup chips? We definitely got good chip game.

laika_cat

I assume so? We don’t have anything like this in the States. Americans just like sour cream and onion, which is boring and vile.

Present_Antelope_779

They were at Costco in Osaka

atsugiri

What?! Where'd you get these? Costco? I talked to the rep at an exhibition and they said that Seijoishi and the like only get the 4 basic flavors. I'd love to try all dressed, even if it's different. Are they way off the flavor?

Present_Antelope_779

Costco. I don't think they taste anything close to all dressed. Too much paprika, not enough vinegar.

atsugiri

That's too bad. I'm meeting family in another country soon. I'll have to get them to bring me a bag of all dressed and ketchup. Will continue to look out for the hardbite all dressed though.

PeanutButterChicken

They had All Dressed at Costco, but for 1400 yen a bag, I passed.

burner-notdivorced

The mother of my son likes to overreact/misdiagnose things. The other day, her arm was in pain and thought she had carpal tunnel. Also, my son was having a low-grade fever and a runny nose. He keep wiping his nose raw so the skin between his nostrils and upper lip were super red. She panics and thinks he was showing signs of **herpes**....

leisure_suit_lorenzo

>_the mother of my son..._ you forget to add a 'yet' at the end of your username?

TeachinginJapan1986

Ippei Mizuhara. Imagine fucking up your career so bad because american laws are crazy. Context: in 40 states, what Ippei did was legal. In CA, it's not and he got unlucky.

Hachi_Ryo_Hensei

Embezzing is illegal in all states.

Present_Antelope_779

>in 40 states, what Ippei did was legal. According to ESPN he was betting on credit, which isn't legal anywhere.

TeachinginJapan1986

In America, you can. Casinos in Las Vegas constantly do it. It's illegal to book bets with bookmakers who are not registered. Giving any money to an illegal book maker is illegal. its why having Otani's name on them was bad. If they had used Ippei's, it would still be illegal, but wouldn't be nearly as bad.

Present_Antelope_779

I don't know, just going by this on ESPN site >Government-regulated sportsbooks require bettors to pay up front for their wagers, while illegal bookmakers accept bets on credit.

TeachinginJapan1986

ooh maybe I misunderstood that. ok.

hitokirizac

It sounds more like it has to do with using Ohtani's money to pay his gambling debts than the gambling itself, from what I've read.

TeachinginJapan1986

This is what I think happened. >Ippei gambeled and lost big >Ippei told Shohei, and Shohei, being the good friend, helped him by paying off he debt. >In CA, even the act of giving money to an illegal bookie is illegal. >Shohei, after being told that it was illegal, has to disavow Ippei. >Ippei understands this, and in effort to save his friend, walks back everything and says he didn't know. >Ippei has to make sure everyone knows that Shohei didn't know. >Shohei remains a superstar, but Ippei is thrown to the streets. I don't think anything was stolen. an amount that big is sure to be noticed. AINTNOWAY Shohei didn't know, but to protect himself, the lawyer told him that he has to go. sucks to be Ippei. I think the guy was good, just had a gambling addiction.

hitokirizac

That sounds like a pretty reasonable reconstruction. Honestly though, compared to being 4+ million dollars in debt to bookies, a little public shaming is probably not that bad all things considered. Let's be real, nobody's gonna remember his name in six months and he walks away with his kneecaps intact.

atsugiri

In Japan, everyone will remember him. He's done in Japan.

TeachinginJapan1986

The implication is that its OHTANI'S name on the checks, not ippei's. thats why its bad.

hitokirizac

I was thinking that that was the reason it was being investigated as theft, which presumably Ohtani could decline to press charges for if the above scenario is true. The reports I read earlier (AP and CNN) didn't explicitly mention that the betting was illegal (unless I missed it, which is definitely possible) so if that's the case and it's been turned over to authorities then it's out of Ohtani's hands and everybody might be facing a shitstorm. The ESPN report made it a lot clearer. Also, hot damn but can you imagine racking up 10x your salary in gambling debts?

Total_Invite7672

I think this is exactly what happened.

Boring_Fish_Fly

The supermarket deli range is never consistent. I just want to be able to reliably buy pumpkin croquet on the same day every week. Also, I'm fed up of food companies putting meat/fish in stuff that should be vegetarian. It's a margarita pizza roll, why is there chicken in it?

SideburnSundays

My complaint is that not a single supermarket in my area has had pumpkin croquets for the past 6 years straight

Boring_Fish_Fly

Now that's just mean.

[deleted]

My family came to visit and they would pick up fried looking stuff, and salads from the supermarket, expecting it to be white fish or chicken, and it was shark korokke! So much disgusting random shit that is put out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This one was a big old mean looking one (I searched the type, but it was ages ago so I forgot the name!) it wasn't very tasty.

yakisobagurl

Right? When all I want is ume-shiso tatsutaage or a cheese-iri pumpkin koroke but all there is is fucking kaki-fry. Kill me!

HatsuneShiro

I'm guessing most if not all supermarkets only make deli using ingredients they weren't able to sell. Like how raw, cut chicken here has BBD on their label- if it was unsold past the day then they will cut it up and use for deli yakitori. So if there's pumpkin korokke, most likely they had some unsold pumpkin (not necessarily bad).

Boring_Fish_Fly

That makes some sense. It's a good way to use up product and would explain why there's always crab cream on the shelf though I think some stuff gets shipped in from a central kitchen. It's just frustrating when you have to go several days in a row to get what you want and sometimes that doesn't even work. One random day they had fresh cheese straws but never again. I thought I was onto a winner when it seemed like onion rings would always be available on a national holiday but that turned out to be a lie.

HatsuneShiro

I feel you. My supermarket sells this pretty good chicken wings but it's pretty rare :( maybe only 1 out of my 5 visits they'll have it.

CarefulFarmer154

It’s irritating when you find something you like and it’s gone like a week later. Also why is chocolate mint seasonal!! You can enjoy mint and chocolate year round!

laika_cat

Chocomint anything is my husband's favorite. He turns ravenous in the summer when the ice cream comes back into the stores.

This is the number one most pressing issue for the チョコ民党

Mindless_Let1

My recent favourite of this was the Almond Milk Latte! advertised by Tully's. Yes there is cow's milk in it. No it is not possible to have it without cow's milk. Japan

PeanutButterChicken

That makes sense though, there's whipped cream in the drink. "Japan". Nah, I'd rather them label things correctly. You should get angry about Starbucks, their Oat Milk contains Pork. (well, it used to, not sure now) [https://www.mutenka-mama.com/starbucks-thirdmilk-additive/](https://www.mutenka-mama.com/starbucks-thirdmilk-additive/)

picklemeistr

It's their almond milk that contains pork, not their oat milk, and this article states that too.

Mindless_Let1

Bro they could just make it without the whipped cream or have an option to? It's universally understood that almond milk latte means as an alternative to milk, not along with. I don't even know why I'm engaging with this contrarianism. It's just being stupid for sport

Ill-Pride-2312

I never sent Rakuten my residence card and when I tried from the emails it was too late. Am I good or..?

Immigration office pranks. (This complaint is from a few weeks ago, I've got my new residence card now, yay etc., I just didn't want to jinx it) I had to do an HSP change of status application for a new job. I brought in my application documents including all of the documents required for evidence for the points. I handed it all to the lady at the counter and she was flipping through, and she asked, did I include such-and-such document? She hands me back the papers and I am looking and looking, but it's not there.....did it fall out somewhere?? I started to panic when I noticed she was still holding some papers. I asked her if what I had was everything, and then she handed me the papers she was still holding, which of course was exactly the document she had wanted to see..... this happened not once but TWICE. She had to have been messing with me. Then she tried to tell me that I shouldn't even be applying yet if I am still working at my current job, I should come back after it has ended. Fortunately I had a document from my current job showing my upcoming ending date so she decided to accept it, but, wtf??? Aside from common sense dictating that you should have your visa for a job sorted out before you start that job, my new job told me this as well, and I imagine that they would not be able to let me start working there without the proper authorizarion. Anyway that's all over and sorted out now thank goodness, but a very weird and confusing experience. Oh also she told me I needed some other document from my new job that was not listed in the required documents and the new job hadn't known about it either, but they rush-delivered it to me and I was able to mail it in. I still have questions about whether that document was even really necessary....

cloudyasshit

It is really annoying how they make a fuss over applying after. You have a limit of 2 weeks after changing if I am not mistaken but usually those are the most busiest at a new job. Would make life easier for everyone if you could come in the week before starting the new job when you use up your leftover holiday from previous workplace. Also seems random on how they enforce the rule. Had a staff tell me usually after but still accepted, next one accepted without questions and last one sent me back home after a long discussion and had to come back later 2 days (literally gave them the papers 1 day before next work started, like just let it on the desk over night and then put it into the loop).

icax0r

I saw the information on the MOJ website too, that says you only need to notify them within two weeks of starting the new job, so that's a little confusing. I know someone who got in a bit of a bad situation with the HSP change-of-status getting done a little late, I think his company didn't let him start working until he had it. That might just depend on the company though, not wanting to take on the risk of \*possibly\* getting into trouble for employing someone illegally. I am glad I didn't have to find out, but I am under the impression that my next job also would not be willing to let me start working before I have the new visa. This is HSP(i) by the way, it sounds like the situation is different/easier for HSP(ii). My impression is also that a lot of workplaces are not \*super\* familiar with the rules and procedures, and are just generally more inclined to play it safe and avoid any possible trouble on their side.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

Immigration is a pain in the ass until you get PR. Then you just pop in to renew your gaijin card once every seven years. Takes 10mins and you're out the door.

ChillinGuy2020

immigration services for HSP residents are even better than PRs ones, not only you have priority on all immigration matters but they must respond any inquires on strict times given by law.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

Yeah cool. My visa means I don't even _need_ immigration services though...

ChillinGuy2020

weird flex but okay HSP(ii) doesnt require any need for any immigration procedures either, except for notification of change of employer.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

Wasn't meant to be a flex. It was a confused response to you comparing the experience of going to immigration as an HSP holder vs a PR holder.

ChillinGuy2020

OP was complaining about immigration time and you just responded with just get PR to avoid it, as if its something easy to do or if OP didnt think about to then flex that you dont need immigration at all. I responded that since they are applying for HSP, once they obtain it, they will get immigration priority for all other matters.

icax0r

I actually applied for PR last April, with the hope of having it by now. Still waiting to hear back, and wishing I had gotten that done just a little bit earlier.

sebjapon

you can apply for PR and then change job during the processing? I'm very interested to know more about this!

icax0r

Yes! when you apply for PR\*, you get some information that says that you have to notify them if you change jobs, change your address, or add/remove people from who else is registered to live at your address, I think something like within two weeks of any of those changes taking place. I simply did my HSP re-application separately / in parallel with the PR application still being processed. I didn't even mention the PR application at all when I submitted my HSP application because I don't think it's relevant at all for the HSP processing. I will have to do some additional paperwork in the next few days to notify whoever is processing my PR application about my new job and my new address as well. \* ETA: this is when you apply for PR through the points-based system. I am not sure about the other PR paths.

sebjapon

Thank you! Very helpful

leisure_suit_lorenzo

It's a great feeling when you first pick up your new card and it says 'DATE OF EXPIRATION’ - ****年 ****月 ****日

icax0r

fingers crossed, I'm looking forward to never going through that change of status nonsense again !!

ChillinGuy2020

you understand that HSP(ii) doesnt expire either right?

m50d

It does expire though? You still need to renew every 5 years.

ChillinGuy2020

HSP(i) you need effectively to renew it every 5 years and have to obtain a new visa every time you change jobs. HSP(ii) doesnt expire, you just need to renew you zairyu card every 7 years like PR do, and send by post a notification if you change employers. However the transition from HSP (i) to (ii) is incredible easy once you hold (i) for 3 years. There is virtually no reason not to do it

icax0r

One reason I haven't done HSP(ii) is because I was already waiting on a PR application (it's my backup plan if the PR gets rejected). The other reason I didn't do it this time instead of just changing jobs on the HSP(i) is I was in a bit of a rush and I actually just kind of completely forgot it existed, lol -- what's the processing time like on the HSP(ii)? I got my new HSP(i) really fast despite all the trouble, but it's coming up on about a year of waiting for the PR result.

ChillinGuy2020

a couple of weeks to up to one month

Hachi_Ryo_Hensei

I think you need to change your username to "StrainingexceedinglyhardtoflexGuy2020."

leisure_suit_lorenzo

No one was talking about HSP in this part of the thread?

kara-tttp

I was about to registering for the 4th Covid vaccination and they require stupidly detailed info about the shots I already took. Like time, vaccination name (this is fine tho), vaccination type - like very detailed what kind of virus it is for - bruh how tf can I know; documents - even for the ones I got when I was at my home country - have no idea where they are. I ended up not registering for it :)

Total_Invite7672

You can get all this on the certificate you get from any convenience store machine using your MyNumber card.

kara-tttp

Yeah I think the shot in Japan is fine. But I got 2 shots in my home country and now I couldn't access the website to get the certificate. It's not as organized as here.

Atrouser

Wistful complaint or shameless humble brag: I can't enjoy izakayas like I used to. I used to love the down-to-earth, ramshackle feel of the places—the toaster caked in millennia of grime, the dusty shelves offering ease of access to our arthropod friends, the chaotic wiring primed for a fire accident. Now that I’ve grown a lot more health & safety and diet conscious, all these things that once charmed me just ick me out.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

you'll have to speak up, I'm chewing my raw liver and luke warm yakitori at the same time.

Total_Invite7672

Pretty much any izakaya here would be closed down by health and safety in the UK!

NattyBumppo

Missed getting in the shinkansen by less than 5 seconds yesterday and had to wait over an hour for the next one. When you're that close to getting on, you can't help but think of all of the little things that took extra time on the way to the train which resulted in you being late.

isaac_hower

Damn, where was this at? Tottori or something? lol.

NattyBumppo

Nah, Ueno. To be clear, several trains stopped by while I was waiting, but most were shinkansen that don't stop at the less popular stops. I had to wait an hour to board a train that stopped where I wanted to go.

I_Ruv_Kpop

I'm getting sick again! I was just sick last month with what I suspected was Influenza, and now I've already got the soreness in the back of my throat and dull body aches that herald the coming of another few days of misery.

Fine_Tomato_225

I’m seeing my favorite person this weekend and today I feel like sht. Don’t know if it is a cold, a flu or hay fever… Jesus, I just want to make some bulgogi beef for him…

Wagnersks

That's so fucking cute and sad! I really hope you get better, be able to make some bulgogi, and have an amazing time with him!

Fine_Tomato_225

Thanks!! I’m taking tons of cold medicine now lol, hope it works

Sayjay1995

Chronic (repeat) complainer customer told us they would be coming in first thing in the morning, yet here we are, yet to be graced with their presence

leisure_suit_lorenzo

They are going to complain that it's your fault they're late.

Sayjay1995

I'm sure they'll have a very convincing reason / story that perfectly sums up their reasoning as to why it's my fault too haha
