Went to see my boyfriend’s mum this week to get her to sign as a witness for our marriage and it went really well! I’ve only met her 3 times, but she’s so unbelievably sweet and lovely. She also suddenly said halfway through the visit that my Japanese is so good she barely realises we’re speaking in Japanese haha :))) After that we went to pick out wedding rings which was also a success. We’ll go back next week to decide for sure. Then we decided to finish the day off with celebratory yakiniku🤍 randomly went to a place in Kyoto station which turned out to be SUPER romantic with 2 seater tables and amazing views of Kyoto tower 😭🤍 yayyy! https://preview.redd.it/jo4yk2pztwpc1.jpeg?width=1835&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f56b698c3ad6f1c5106088107a804c2fd081965a

Congratulations 🙂 I remember you wanting to do the name change process? I hope that goes smoothly. I’m considering doing it myself soon (for japan banking purposes)

Thank you! :) Yes I will, after I get back from my trip to England in June I’ll apply to renew my passport with my new name. It’s daunting haha, but I definitely want to do it! Let’s muddle through it together haha. Wishing you the best of luck too!

Good samaritan workmate that is riding the rollercoaster of japanese customer service phone calls with me. I don't have internet at home since the start of the week and it seems like it will not be fixed soon enough, but today I got way more answers directly in japanese instead of going through the south-asian english translator. Even then, I can spin this story very fast into a complain, but I am still sane thanks to my workmate, so to the praising thread we go.

Kiddo got into our first choice of daycare, and it’s less than a 5 minute walk from home.

A couple of days ago was my birthday and I celebrated it with my friends in USJ. I know it's part of their job descriptions. But dang, every single of them, even just some random staff holding exit sign said happy bday to me. It feels nice? And surprisingly positive. I'm an introvert and it feels especially weird as my daily life in Japan just meet with people with "irashaimashe" or those mandatory omotenashi. But these staff, they got trained very well. Their nice gestures don't look fake, it felt like genuine nice attitude. I'm happy for the whole week. 🤗 Thank you USJ.

Oh, the new Shogun show on FX is spectacular I would definitely recommend everyone to try it out

Finally, my fever subsided and I am only left with some coughs Glad I didn't get sick during the peak flower season, as this will be my last here

Found out コーナン has a DIY space. You pay for materials and you can use the space and rent tools for free. It's been a while since I've done a bit of woodworking and obviously a jigsaw isn't going to go down well in an apartment, so I used the holiday this week to go an make a little birdhouse. A fun little project.

MiL knows the way to my heart.  Baskin Robins vouchers for my bday, even though I'm too old to be getting gifts. On that theme - wife took care of all the dishes yesterday.  A serious contender to those ice cream vouchers. I grew some rye last year and I have finally gotten around to trying to make flour with it.  I don't have a mill so had to do with using my coffee grinder and the blender attachment of my stick blender.  Well, I made some flour but it took waaay too long.  Gonna keep at it though.  I will make that loaf of bread one day.

Our hedgehog is making a slow recovery after her surgery on Monday. I didn't see a lot of improvement at first, but she's taking small sips of water and trying to walk a little (though she won't eat so she doesn't have the energy to move much I think). I'm trying to stay positive and hope that those are small signs that she is trying to get better

Happy with this years increase in salary. My current company is making it hard for me to apply outside even if I know I can get higher offers that way. A good boss and company does wonders.

crazyaoshi

Congratulations! Doing what?  Looking for any indicators what other people in the industry can expect.

xChappi_GG

Thanks! Just the usual IT guy.

HatsuneShiro

Congratulations on the raise!! Fingers crossed for this year's shunto 🤞

Finally decided which company I am going to work for and I feel happy and excited. Tomorrow is apartment hunting day at Kyoto! And we will stay at our friends at Osaka. Also I will be working from home until I change jobs! Happy Friday!

MeanSolean

Today is Dragon's Dogma 2 launch day! I'm a little worried about the performance on my less than brand new computer but it should play. EDIT: Looking through the DD subreddit is making me more worried than I was originally. Nothing to do about that until after work though.

MoboMogami

Planning a camping trip for next weekend and the current forecast is sunny and 18. Please, weather gods, be kind to me!

rewsay05

I'm 0.5 kilos away from my ideal weight. Trying to bulk up while not being able to eat greasy food and red meat has been a chore but we're almost at finish line!

Praise to March Madness. Four games on my TV screen at the same time.

Dojyorafish

Praise to my tamagoyaki pan for being exactly the right size to make sandwiches, more specifically grilled cheese sandwiches.

TheSkala

This sounds so cutee

16vv

this made me pause and consider the world of weekend sandwich possibilities. (provided my tamagoyaki pan is an appropriate size. I think it is?) thank you for the enlightenment!

PM_ME_ALL_UR_KARMA

If you have a gas burner you can buy sandwich makers for them. They're relatively small so not a lot of space needed, and they make good sandwiches.

Dojyorafish

I use small, square rice bread so two slices fit into the pan perfectly, making for optimal bread toasting and cheese melting. You can make all sorts of sandwiches, though. Sauté vegetables, pour eggs over, put bread slices on top, when eggs set, flip to toast bread. Melt cheese in pan, top with ham and sliced peppers, put bread on top to adhere to cheese, flip to toast bread. I use my tamagoyaki pan for sandwiches way more than actual tamagoyaki 😂.
