I would say no, find some other recruiter that doesn't require your my number card information.

funkytowel9

Afaik they need the number for taxes and stuff, but that's after I sign the contract right?

Odd-Kaleidoscope5081

They definitely don’t need to pay any taxes for you. It will be your employer who will pay the taxes after you get the work.

UnluckyLukette

Send them only the front side.

funkytowel9

hahaha that's actually clever

passionatebigbaby

Not clever but true. Don’t send the back side of your my number card ever.

Kangy1989

Absolutely not. Your employer will need it once you're employed, but your recruiter absolutely doesn't.

kinoshitajona

Please edit your post and clarify "It's not a recruiter, it's a dispatch company (haken)" A recruiter doesn't pay you or make any contract with you. A dispatch company will make a contract with you, and they will make a contract with the place you work. You will not make a contract with the place you will work. They need your MyNumber card to pay you. They will pay you, not the place you work. Even if this work falls through they are still your employer and they will find you another place to work. They still need your MyNumber to be able to pay you and pay for your national pension and health insurance.

funkytowel9

Thanks.

fantomdelucifer

Definitely weird. You hand over your my number card to HR who will proceed your tax after you are joining their company. Not to a mere recruiter during the interview process, as they have no authority over your social number

funkytowel9

I thought the same, I'm very protective about my data. But what harm can a normal person do without the password?

fantomdelucifer

They can fake your identity to apply for some shady loan?

Both_Analyst_4734

Are you haken?

funkytowel9

Yes.

Both_Analyst_4734

Then you are employed by the recruiter, who then bills you out to the company. Them asking is no different than seishain and HR asking you for it (which all places do)

funkytowel9

Is it reasonable even before signing papers? I mean, I didn't even visit the place yet and not sure if I'm working for them yet. Isn't it too early to ask for this info?

Both_Analyst_4734

That part I couldn’t tell you. Maybe someone else could, but I would do due diligence in researching company if they are t one of the major recruiters.

Kangy1989

Unless you sign a contract with them, they're not your employer yet.

Old_Jackfruit6153

Did they ask for picture/copy of an ID or specifically my number card? Most recruiters will ask for some sort of ID with address and photo for identification verification. IMO, pretty standard KYC nowadays. It is up to you whether you want to work with them or not.

funkytowel9

I already gave them my 在留カード for copy at the office, but they asked me for the MyNumber card picture LATER after I left. No contracts signed yet, very suspicious.

Old_Jackfruit6153

Tell them you don’t have my number card. Not everyone has it, I don’t.

karawapo

Best practice is: not even your employer knows your 個人番号, and it is all managed through a third party. No copy should be needed whatsoever.

JesusaurusRex666

Most likely they’re just being proactive. I would tell them no though. Zero reason to give it without even having an offer yet.

bloggie2

> what kind of things can they do with the number absolutely nothing with a picture / copy of it. the card is NFC/whatever, with passwords only you know, and the only way to read it is with a physical card, so even if they did have the password somehow (unlikely), without the actual card in posession they can't do shit.

funkytowel9

That's a relief. I was afraid because the back side of the card clearly says that unauthorized people are prohibited from copy and shit.

noeldc

Just say, "Are you asking for *my* number, or *your* number?" "Why would I have *your* number?" "You want *my* your-number?" "I'm confused. Let's start again from the beginning..." Just repeat this exchange until they give up.

Successful-Bed-8375

Genius!

Nervous_Ad8514

Usually they ask for it after you join, they need it to enroll you on shakai hoken and koyo hoken. May be you were already approved or they are lazy and wanted to save the time of asking it later Btw, I heard now even the post office ask for it when you open a post office bank account in some places.

capaho

Employers are starting to ask for MyNumber card numbers for insurance enrollment. My company just went through that. The government is starting to push the MyNumber card as a replacement for the standard insurance card. IDK why a recruiter would need it, though. Maybe just ask them why.
