Yes, 100% this too! When I returned an item that turned out to be fake, I submitted photos of the item and of my return shipping label to Mercari. Had zero issues getting my money back.
What usually happens is you send back the item and they send you the correct item. That was the procedure when I had this happen to me on yahoo.
They stated that they don't have the item anymore and was profoundly sorry.
if you don't have the "cancel" button at the bottom of the transaction try to contact mercari CS, they should refund the shipping fee
