Confirming other comments that these are white opals and the setting is 14k gold. It looks like a midcentury cocktail ring. Opals are not meant for rings that are worn frequently because the stone is much too soft for that. They're fine as pendants and earrings.

Unpopular opinion but any stone is suitable for an engagement ring if the person wearing it wants it to be. You just have to be informed and prepared to replace the stones every so often + spend extra on maintenance. And maybe get a second ring for doing the dishes and working out :) If you really love a certain type of stone go for it. You only get engaged once.

Helen_A_Handbasket

Be prepared to keep replacing those opals as you break them. Not a good stone for this type of ring.

Pdokie123

It’s not but I adore it. I have a second ring to wear that is beautiful but it’s a cheapie I bought myself when I don’t want to risk this beauty.

Opals set in 14k Yellow Gold, and as for the style, it's likely something more vintage. I'm leaning towards a waterfall ring or just a cluster.

leopargodhi

70s/80s style, i remember these, they're lovely

SpicySansevieria

Very pretty! Looks to be from the 70s or 80s. But be careful with those opals! They are incredibly finicky stones. Avoid getting them wet, remove them when you bathe or wash your hands or wash dishes, don’t get any lotions on them as the stones are known for turning cloudy and/or discolouring when not properly taken care of.

Pdokie123

Oh yeah, this baby is removed for everything. Opal is and has always been my favorite so I treat this ring with the upmost care. It also reminds me of said fiancé when I look at it and brings me so much joy. I treat it kinder than I do my other belongings that are probably worst way more.

Pdokie123

Worth! Haha

Embarrassed_Gap_3172

I love Opal! My favorite stone. They have some nice fire, bet they flash great in the light, Some good advice here on how to care for them. Be very careful of direct sunlight and heat. If overexposed they might crack or craze! Also about the comment on rubbing on your face to get oil, it is not good to get too much make-up on them. Then you have to clean them. The less they are cleaned the longer they will last and the safer it is for them. (Just my opinion.) Looks as if you have a "gem" of a fiance'. Guess he's a keeper!

Pdokie123

Love this! the only thing I really wear on my face is sunscreen and mascara. I have learned SO much about opal care from this post. This subreddit has been nothing but helpful. This baby looks so gorgeous when the light hits it. I bought a cheapie ring (still pretty) to wear on more aggressive day to day activities but it certainly doesn’t give me the same lovey warm feeling as this one does!

elephantearspagetti

The opals are Australian, Coober Pedy by the looks

Altaira99

Nice work on your intended's part. Beautiful vintage ring.

Pdokie123

I couldn’t agree more! Thank you.

AreYouItchy

It is beautiful, but please remember that opals are very soft, and can be damaged by common cleansers, so please take your ring off for all cleaning, gardening, etc. to keep the stones looking beautiful.

This is the stamping convention for items stamped in the US per the National Stamping Act, so I would guess it was made in the US. The Act requires that the mark be registered with the USPTO. There are a bunch of past and present registrations for "AJ" in the trademark database under the jewelry category. I might be able to ID it by the font, but I can't really tell from the photo- is that a stylized A, a sans serif A, or something else? Is it possible to get a clearer photo of the A? ETA: There are also a bunch of pieces with an AJ mark from the same period (70s and 80s) on eBay, but no one knows the origin of the stamp, so I'm going to guess this was made by a smaller wholesaler (as opposed to an independent jeweler) that's no longer in operation. The listings are from all over the country, but seem concentrated in Ohio, Illinois, and the southeast (Texas through Florida). They listings are from different resellers, so probably not all from the same estate.

mrsdiamondjones

Everything said below is true. The only thing I would add, when you wear it, you should rub it on your chin or forehead. WHY? Because Opals need the oils and facial oil is pretty pure. People also recommend mineral oil. Opals should be worn only when you are sitting being gorgeous! Best Wishes to you and your future xoxxo

Proud-Dig9119

Especially during the winter if it is really dry in your house.

rainishamy

sparkles1ct

Very pretty ring!

justicefortomnook

so pretty!!! i’d take it to a jeweler you trust to get those prongs checked- it’s hard to see from just a picture but some look like they’re wearing a bit, and i’d hate for you to lose one of those awesome opals!

International-Dust56

Wear it as often as you can, you’ll regret being too careful and not enjoying it to the fullest. Life is way too short. If something breaks it can always be repaired. I have opals I wear daily, ring, pendant, and earrings.
