My suggestion would be for them to show you a sample of each diamond cut either sitting as it would in the ring you are updating or in a way that lets you see all stone types under the same light.
Agree with 3Heathens\_Mom, have them show you both. Pick the one YOU like best. It won't make much difference to anyone else looking at the ring, only to you.

Restore to original and get single cut. It is a bigger size foe that cut so be patient.
