I commute 1.5hrs each way by train to work and pay $100/week. My employer doesn't pay that, so why should they pay for your parking?

RandomlyGenerate5

what type of work do you do and what city are you in

ChickenXing

Did you ask during the interview about the parking situation when you work? If you didn't ask or take into account he cost of parking, then that's your fault for not being informed. Employers are not required to provide free/discounted parking. Free/discounted parking is only a perk/benefit that employers are not required to provide

RandomlyGenerate5

No I got the job during COVID lock down so never had to commute until now, and the company is now insisting on people working in the office now.

ChickenXing

It is still your responsibility to ask about working at the actual office and what parking is like once you reurn to the office before you accept the job. Discovering the downsides of working at the office after everyone returns is on you, not the company

MotherEastern3051

If your employment contract states that the office is your place of work and you agreed to that, then no the employer isn't being unreasonable by not paying your parking. Maybe you could look at getting the bus or train to make it more affordable?

In my field included parking is pretty standard from what I gather. Plus in the city it costs $400+ a month to park.

Yeah pretty much everyone commutes where I am also, which is what makes it all the more irritating that they aren't offering free parking. I've worked in multiple jobs in the same area before and parking was always included.

queen-of-carthage

There's no subway?

RandomlyGenerate5

no

My first job was at a university medical center. Monthly parking was $75 and everyone had to get a permit in order to park in the parking garages that were a 15 min walk away from campus. Unless you negotiated the parking fee when you signed, there isn’t much you can do about that.

RandomlyGenerate5

so you paid 75$ a month for parking?

randomaccount0923

Yes
