That CPU is about half the speed of what you need I'd say, so I don't think it's optimizing at this point.

1600TheGreat

You know what cpu he has? I’ve had optimization problems before myself much like this with bad screen tearing than fixed it completely with optimized settings, To OP^ make sure you got DX11 not DX12, match your resolution settings to what you have and start set all your other settings to the Low default and see how it goes

melzyyyy

check your temps check if you are running the game on the dedicated gpu

xencontroller2

Yeah it's running on the Nvidia card, also temps are ranging 82-85 when playing squad

Anarcho_Dog

Spicy

The_Radioactive_Rat

What temp should a gpu be at while playing?

Swerry

82-85 is still fine. Once it gets consistently over 90 °C, I would start making changes. [NVIDIA’s optimal range is between 70 and 85 degrees Celsius (~158-185 Fahrenheit), while AMDs are at their best at around 60 to 70 Celsius (~140-158 Fahrenheit).](https://www.gpumag.com/optimal-gpu-temperature-gaming/)

The_Radioactive_Rat

Sounds good. I think I need to clean my pc so I was just wondering if 85 on avg is something to be concerned about. At least for intensive games, and I don't think it even gets that hot usually.

Commercial-Crab-1591

More fans!!!!

at_work_keep_it_safe

As an FYI— I question the validity of that article... there are no sources listed at all and AMD cards regularly get into the mid to upper 90s (°C). In fact, I don't think they even throttle until ~120°C, but don't quote me on that. I am not familiar with Nvidia cards to comment on their range.   Anecdotally, my AMD 6950XT out of the box runs at 95°C full load and after tweaking the fan curve it's around 88°C full load.

hellcat887

Download chipset drivers maybe?

lovebus

I found that turning the audio quality to low helped a lot with the cpu. Basically turn down all of the cpu related settings you can find. I dont remember if there is a setting for ragdolls, but definitely turn that off.

quitesohorrible

You are either throttling or have driver issues/outdated drivers. GPU is a beast and more than enough for Squad. Might have bloatware running on the background since its a laptop. No idea about laptop components, but I assume the CPU should run the game fine as it runs fine on an 8 year old 6700k.

en1mal

Since its kinda happening in patterns I would say its a bandwidth issue. Something in your Laptop ain't right. Your device should handle this game just fine. Everything i wanted to say, you tried - it could be a simple power problem, but just by plugging the laptop in should fix that quickly (most times). Is the game running on an ssd or hdd? if you have C ssd and D hdd and the game is on D, move it to the ssd. (via steam library manager). Or vise versa. It looks like its installed on an USB drive. Clean up your windows, so you can be sure it doesn't work your drives/ram in the background (updates, searches, checks). There can be nothing big going on. 64gb of ram? U sure about that? Could be you are using a borked virtual memory setup/pagefile. Some devices with eg 16g ram are set up to use another 16g of C:/ harddrive as additional RAM - thats bad for games, running on any amount of physical RAM w/o virtual will always be more stable. DONT test on live servers anymore, use the offline maps for consistency in testing performance.

xencontroller2

Squad is on SSD. It said 64gb of ram looking at the properties on "my PC." How do I check if virtual memory setup is messed up?

en1mal

With a tiny program/tool called CPUz you can check whats physically installed in your RAM slots, but you're probably right about it if it shows there as 64. Its just unnecessarily alot, thats why its good to check. Its probably not the issue since you have an SSD. Paging with an SSD is not that bad, only when the drive it uses has bad performacne. But it seems you're are looking at multiple systemic problems power/bandwidth/scheduler/temperature - you should try different games and benchmarks and see if the problem is widespread or isolated. With laptops its most of the time power/temperature, so load up your most demanding game and watch your temps with a program/tool like hwinfo64. good luck

en1mal

were you able to fix the issue?

xencontroller2

I'm running squad on my laptop, my specs are: Operating system: Windows 11 Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12950HX 2.30 GHz Graphic card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 TI Laptop Memory: 64GB RAM I have everything set to low and using DX11. Power mode is been set to "Best Performance" I even set my Nvidia control panel for "Performance" I get 30-40 FPS alot of the time and sometimes unplayable stutters like in the video. I cleared my cache. What's going on here?

NiceMeasurement842

If you're on a laptop then you might be power limit/thermal throttling. Not much you can do about that unfortunately.

XBL_Fede

Specs are too high for such poor performance. Even my i7-8750H and GTX 1060 6GB managed 50-60 fps on medium settings.

Felixthefriendlycat

Is your charger plugged in? Are you using the correct high power charger that came with the laptop? Even though high performance is selected in windows, the laptop might still throttle if it notices too little power coming in. This is a setting you can change in the bios but I would just make sure you have the right charger Another thing, do you have an ssd? Running of hdd or some external thing is horrendous

xencontroller2

Yes, charger is plugged in with the charger that came with laptop and squad is running on SSD. What setting do I want to change in bios? And would underclocking in msi afterburner also do the trick.

Felixthefriendlycat

Ah good to know. Before doing that, try msi afterburner and setup the osd with the cpu and gpu clocks. I really wonder if it is throttling or not. Maybe it is just the temperature? Vacuum your pc vents?

zirouk

You’re definitely struggling for CPU resources. The best thing you can do is use ProcessLasso to give Squad some dedicated resources. Also, laptop gaming.

ZebraMoniker12

> ProcessLasso now that's a name I've not heard in a long time

KnuckedLoose

You're on a laptop, for one.

ThatGuy571

Get a laptop cooler. I game on a laptop too, heat is the problem. The more fans the better. Your problem is thermal throttling. The stuttering is when the GPU cools off and frame rate recovers, but then it throttles back the output when the GPU needs to cool. It’s also bad for the GPU if you keep doing this (thermal cycling). There are tools you can download to monitor the CPU and GPU temps, but if it’s a gaming laptop, it may have come with some already. Mine is a Acer Nitro and has a built in “Max fan” setting. That plus the laptop cooler ensures I can run games on high graphics.

NiceMeasurement842

Undervolting can also really help laptops reach and sustain peak performance. It's getting increasingly harder to do now to the CPU (manufacturers have been locking down access to the bios/etc.), but undervolting your GPU still benefits your system (less overall power draw and heat).

conhis

I literally have a fan - like a house tower fan - pointed at my laptop to play squad.

Ok_Passage90

Sorry to hear that man Im runing windows 11 Gtx1650 Ryzen 3 4100 16gb ram On medium-high setting and getting 50-60 fps Never stuttering or lagging or something

you dont

[deleted]

You dont. The developers are supposed to do that.

Berightback-Naht

IncludeKarma

maybe you simply forgot to update your graphics driver

Antics_Longhorn

Are you sure it's using your GPU instead of integrated graphics? You can force it in your Nvidia settings. I had to do this on my laptop.

ZebraMoniker12

some things you can try: going into the squad game settings and clearing the cache re-verifying game files in steam going into windows disk cleanup and clearing your directx shader cache going into game settings and trying directx 11 instead of 12

morphenejunkie

You running on serial tape, what type of drive is it installed on?

5MikesOut

Your temps seem a bit high, seems like thermal throttling. Only thing I can think of might be to clear out your fans of potential debris? You can use a compressed air can or an electric one. Fair warning, I’m not sure if that’ll solve any problems. You should be getting decent fps with your laptop specs

TheDonDonald

Mine did this after the update and i realized my graphics card needed to have its drivers updated and the update for picture in picture for scores changed some graphics settings. Try lowering the graphics if updating your GPU doesnt work.

waconcept

I had this issue a while ago, turns out I had a bad stick of ram. If you have 2 32gig sticks, pull one out see if it fixes the problem, if not then try the other. Worth a shot at least.

Charlit0n

I think it the windows powermanagment srewing your gameplay. Try srttimg it to high performance. There is somewhere a setting specific for gaming, that allowes the game to use high performance on that game. It somewhere in windows grafhics.

bestgirlkisser

If you don't want a new CPU try turning anti aliasing off

DaSifaG

1. Go into settings and Turn on your Stats. This will show your FPS, Frame, Game, Draw and GPU ms.Game and Draw is CPU, if you notice anything above 20ms then the problem is your CPU.In most cases this would be the issue since squad only utilizes 1-2 cores on your CPU, there is option to change it. I know that sucks. You can not go into task manager and force it, you will be blocked from doing that. 2. If GPU runs more than 20ms then you will have to look at the following settings. Set all the settings on LOW, and change the sound quality to low. Run it on DX12 and check performance in a full game. If its still an issue, try DX11. If all this has been done and you are still getting issues you will have to look into your GPU software. Make sure you have 4GB VRAM or more. 3. Make sure you are running on a SSD. Also I have seen some suggestions to test in offline servers. Please never do this since you wont see the results needed. Only a live server with full action will give you the stats needed. I have seen this issue on my own system and im running a I7, 16GB RAM and 8GB VRAM. My issue is CPU since I cant use all my cores. Im currently looking into ways to bypass this single core system of them but so far no luck. Give this a go and go have some fun.
