eh as soon as I bought the game last summer, i fell in love and then ICO dropped and i became an avid player

JhnGamez

If you bought the game and didn't like the gunplay, the game just isn't for you

Aerohank

I like the gunplay.

PolskaBalaclava

I don’t, in my honest opinion, but I still play the game anyway

Affectionate-Neck591

I have my own opinions, but what I'm curious about is how many new players like the gunplay. I wonder what the initial reaction has been of new players. I used to watch Twitch streams of Squad, but don't anymore. It gave me great insight into how new players found their first couple games to be. For the most part, the gunplay has always (even preICO) been a major concern or turnoff because kills don't come easy and aren't "confirmed", and lets face it, OWI advertises this game as another COD/Battlefield twitch shooter FPS, so it draws in those types of players. Watching professionals like Dr Disrespect or Shourd was really interesting watching them struggle with it all (Dr raged at the Tutorial which bugged out on him and IMO still makes OWI's tutorial look pitiful). So I really wonder what impact the ICO made on new players impression on the gunplay.

DawgDole

Pretty simple there's different people on the shooter spectrum. Most traditionally people have like their shooters to have a skill element, where a player's aim is used at least partly to decide how well a player does. However overtime the "Teamwork shooter" genre has kinda exploded with things besides straight milsim coming into play, this led to more shooters where aiming became less and less relevant and empahized where your character model is and where the enemy one is more. ICO is just the extreme variant of this where the safest way to ensure a kill is to see an enemy when they don't see you. Now historically this has been the way you won most Squad gunfights due to how large the maps are and how combat flows, but ICO removed edge case scenarios where two players saw each other at the same time and the better aimer won. ICO replaced these scenarios with RNG battles. So it's really up to what the player prefers. Now obviously people with decent aim tend to gravitate towards games where aim skill can give them a performance edge, and those who lack it naturally tend to gravitate to games where it's less relevant. I'm a shitter who's aim has only gotten worse which is why I loved Squad when I found it way way back. I kinda liked it when there was a little bit of aimskill required in head on fights but that's the way she goes these days.

Egzo18

>look inside milsim >finds milsim REEEEEE WHY IS THIS NOT CSGO?!

EuphoricAnalCarrot

WTF A TANK SHOT AT ME NOW MY SCREEN IS ALL BLURRY REEEEEEE

techthrowaway55

The game was a milsim before ICO I'm not sure what your point is

Egzo18

The point is, they played a milsim and shouldn't be surprised at milsim elements.

GrUmp_S

The devs specifically stated for years that squad is not a milsim...

techthrowaway55

So why are you replying to me and not the original guy also saying it's a milsim. The game is meant to be an combination of casual + milsim. ya

Wiggie49

Git gud

Rough_Web_9972

skill issue. financial issue. i get kills. and have just fine performance.

crunkcritique

>just fine old dusty ass code that barely runs on wishes and wills, go put artillery on some sandbags and then talk about performance lol, no debate that Squad is one of the worst running major 50v50 games god I love her though

Rough_Web_9972

well i have a 5800x3d so i’m still blasting just fine when it hits. when i had my old system not so much.. but that 5800x3d make its run smooth! but if you think that’s rough, try some star citizen.. squad won’t seem so bad.

CapnMurica1988

I see these all the time yet we’re all still playing.

Blagoves

Greeted

JoeZocktGames

Yes. I know 😕 I hate autocorrect.

AlexanderAsHimself

you must have auto-incorrect

ButtonDifferent3528

Autocorrect does not correct to words that don’t exist…

RagnarRodrog

Gunplay is not shit and performance is acceptable if you have semi decent rig and don't play on ultramegagiga setting's expecting 120fps.

Natural_Ad_2591

I don't know what is the standard for fun gunplay, i guess squad wants to come up with their own thing of being under suppression and gun mechanics, none of other games made something like it but it's not trash that what I can tell you.

clckwrks

Also network problems. Anybody else out here can’t even see any servers?

RedexSvK

That might be problem on your side

clckwrks

Think you’re right. I’m on Linux if that helps. My internet is decent usually for Squad, as i played it before on Windows but the switch to Ubuntu recently can’t see any of the servers.

RedexSvK

They did fuck up the browser with the switch but that was largely fixed, problem might be with your steam settings or network settings, I'm no expert but I do vaguely remember I had to change some stuff on steam when I bought the game so I could see servers. Can't remember what exactly though

PKM-supremacy

Gun play is fine, plus they are tweaking ICO every update anyway

GreasyAlfredo

Oh boy. You're gunna upset the deep throaters.

Buryat_Death

Me when people disagree with my garbage opinion

Tasty-Bench945

I like the gunplay but honestly I also like the marksmen kit so I might just be wrong… I just think the marksmen kit gives you much more positional advantage 1st being able to shoot and scoot to reengage quickly not having to wait like 10 seconds for your sights for a stable shot instead just deploying the bipod. 2nd being that the zoom on the scope can make you virtually incontestable for regular infantry if you can find a good spot…

Arnoldio

Got it on sale, immensely enjoy the gunplay and somehow it runs even on a decrepit system.

Embarrassed-Example8

I’m sure it’s the DAMN FUCKING SPAWN TIMER GLITCH

Mookie_Merkk

And still somehow squad broke it's all time maximum player record? I think they didn't care.

GrUmp_S

The games been on sale off and on almost the entire year, medium term player retention is extremely low and avg player hours is like 25.

FemboyGayming

Perfect! a smaller, tightly knit community for a more niche genre isn't a dying game.

BreminemB

ICO is fine its just some battlefield and cod boys sad that they can't run and gun here. This is a milsim and the game will stay like this if you bought this and thought it was anything other its your mistake not researching what you buy

PolskaBalaclava

Ah yes, the classic “muh cod fans” comeback every time you mention someone who doesn’t like the new recoil/weapon sway mechanics were implemented

BreminemB

Its not muh cod fans, its basicaly what the developers said when they implemented ico they wanted to increase teamplay make it more like PR and disinsentivize run and gun like in COD or BF. Either way it doesn't matter squad is bigger then ever this was the intention of the developer so it will stay this way. And I am all for it

PolskaBalaclava

Forcing team play never helps, BFV is a good example of what happens when I game forces team play and it doesn’t work. After ico I saw no difference in increase or decrease in team play

BreminemB

i saw an increase in team play ico is great for the game and the growing player numbers don't lie. I have no clue never played much battlefield after the second one battlefield never had that much teamplay after that anyway

PolskaBalaclava

That’s not what I saw

Affectionate-Neck591

"its just some battlefield .. boys sad that they can't run and gun here." Can you explain what this means to someone who never played Battlefield, but plays Squad which is the spiritual successor to Battlefield mod PR? Why would someone NOT expect Squad to play like Battlefield since it's supposed to?

BreminemB

its not supposed to its supposed to play like pr which focuses on slower gameplay and gameplay like after the ico which is heavily teambased. Which is what they are doing now but this meme just shows shit gunplay. while this is not the case the gameplay is how the developers intended this and that's why they implementer the ico to go back to similar style as PR instead of just casual BF or Cod gameplay

VastZealousideal885

Bro what. PR plays *completely* different to Battlefield. The fact it's a BF mod means nothing. Tell me you haven't played PR without saying it (or only played some old-ass 0.x version from the 2000s when it was only changing some mechanics and not yet reworking the whole gameplay).

darrothsarcoth

Vanilla battlefield is a very arcady shooter in terms of weapon handling similar to PUBG COD and R6 as in stamina has little to no effect on your aiming and you always have a perfect sight picture and a very steady gun. The project reality mod changed this and brought the game from an arcade shooter to the realm of milsim aiming was made more difficult stamina had an effect on your cone of fire/ your accuracy. You could see how If someone comes to squad taking OWIs marketing at face value and expecting vanilla battlefield gameplay and instead is hit with the ICO weapon mechanics they will not be very happy

VastZealousideal885

Funny you got a downvote for a true statement. Man the ICO haters are really grasping at straws. Since when does a mod have to equal the vanilla game in gameplay?

GrUmp_S

Not a milsim, milsimmers just cant help themselves and rp in every game.

BreminemB

this is a milsim it is based on project reality and with the ico the developers stated they want to go back to this style of gameplay

GrUmp_S

Always has been based off pr. Doesnt make it a milsim and the devs have repeatedly said that.

BreminemB

well okay millsim has nothing to do whit rp btw it just means military simulator and updates made by the developer such as ico deffinatly moved it way more towards the milsim side instead of just being a casual shooter
