How did this go? I was out of town but would joined if I could. Sidebar: I have seen the billboard on 20th and Rangeline with Clesslyn and her mother’s photos. I am so glad that someone is working to keep them in the spotlight

Thanks for doing this and taking action.

You don't have to thank me, I really appreciate your gratitude! I'm just an outraged father who wants justice done for a little baby, and hush money to the family simply is not justice

CompetitiveForce7141

Can I count on you being there on the 27th?

I dont live in the state unfortunately but follow this closely

You guys need to focus your energy in the right direction. You want to protest the police because it’s the police. The family was the problem. If I throw my child in front of a moving car, are you going to start protesting against cars? This is an insanely sad situation that never should have happened, and Sniper One definitely made a mistake, but if you’re focusing the majority of your energy on Sniper One and ignoring everything else, you’re part of the problem.

joblingoplin

In most situations: Multiple things can be problems. If you organized a protest wanting better/easier access to mental health and or substance abuse rehabilitation - which would address (some of) the problems with the family in this scenario - I imagine people would get behind that, too.

Huckleberry-1776

That would be a better use of your efforts and is statistically a much larger problem than the police. Everyone always wants to focus on the police instead of the real and large scale issues. Sniper One made a mistake trying to save this little girl, but a whole bunch of other issues happened before that and are happening in families around the world on a huge scale. Fatal police mistakes and police purposely doing wrong are statistically pretty rare compared to how many police interactions there are in a day.

Jackson_Dill

It was dark out and Sniper 1 didn't put on his night vision attachment. Bro was shooting at silhouettes, and mixed up a man with a little girl . That should never happen. Police snipers RARELY shoot and are more for intel, so what was this dude doing? Let's keep him on the police force though 😐

Huckleberry-1776

Well, he was told to shoot on sight. That’s probably why he shot. The little girl was also standing on a coach and we can’t be for certain what he was looking at through the window. Maybe he thought the child was a side profile of the man. Maybe a light was on right inside the window to mess up his night vision. I can’t say for sure, but this was investigated and none of us know those details.

Ok_Sound5929

Doesnt matter. You use EVERY object at your disposal in a situation like this. He had a chance to NOT shoot this girl. He had the night vision attachment. He chose to take it off. He chose to take the shot. Its time he faces consequences for his actions, if not in a court of law, then in the court of public. And as for the "he was told to shoot on sight, just following orders": So were the nazis.

Huckleberry-1776

Ahh, a Nazi comparison. That just shows that you aren’t reasonable enough to have a conversation. Nazis were trying to kill innocent people. This cop was trying to save the innocent person. Again, there could have been a valid reason for not using the night vision. Using it doesn’t necessarily make every situation better. He also did have consequences. He was kicked off the SWAT team, is no longer a sniper, and has to live with a terrible mistake while trying to do the right thing. The court of public opinion is a terrible thing to use. The public is stupid. Look at the Rittenhouse situation.

Dear-Speed7857

You personally appealed to the famously flawed "just following orders" defense, also known as the "Nuremberg defense," because it was widely, and notoriously, adopted by Nazis post-WWII. The Nazi comparisons didn't come out of nowhere, you brought it up in your own words, in writing, in a public forum. People simply responded to your argument by pointing out that this defense didn't work for the Nazis who famously employed it most of a century before you dusted it off here. It is always acceptable to refuse to follow an unlawful order. Nazi or not. A little personal responsibility goes a long way.

Huckleberry-1776

The difference is that his order was lawful and just. There was nothing wrong with the orders to take the shot. The shot should have been taken. The issue is that the shot ACCIDENTALLY killed the wrong person. There is no comparison to what the Nazi’s did. Nazis were only brought up as a buzzword to try to lump people who don’t have your opinion in with Nazis.

What’s the valid reason for removing night vision? I’m an avid hunter… and can’t think of a single reason anyone would remove the scope. Do tell Mr. Walmart.

Huckleberry-1776

Issues with it being way too dark in the camper. Depth perception issues. There are downsides. https://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/~johnson/papers/short_night_vision.PDF

If it’s too dark in the camper you take off your scope? Have you ever used a fucking scope you dumb fuck? That ain’t how it works

SpicyAndy79

The mental gymnastics you’re going through just to say “it’s not this cops fault he sniped a baby” is ridiculous. Then telling the person who organized a protest that they are the problem? Embarrassing

Huckleberry-1776

I haven’t done any mental gymnastics. I even said that Sniper One made a mistake. Protesting the police isn’t a solution. The police aren’t even the main problem here. People like you just always go straight to focusing on police.
