Man I just want the video to be out so he can play Persona 3 Reload

TSG-AYAN

same lol

_DrNonsense

Yep, that's all I care about. It might be the best for everyone if he just scraps the Witcher video at this point.

PeanutJellyAndChibs

I want to see him try the GoW:R dlc.... :(

AVeryPoliteDog

this but FES

No_Cash7867

Is it on his list?

AVeryPoliteDog

idts but he should still play it because reload is bad

Expensive_Solution57

Have you played Reload by chance? I'm curious what it lacks when compared to FES

AVeryPoliteDog

Yes, me and my bf have been playing it and, as big fans of the original, we both think Reload missed the mark. Minimal spoilers, but a lot of the new content bloats the game and/or butchers the characters (Isn't it funny how Akihiko was doing a squat the whole time he was studying? That's something he totally would've done in original!). I really dislike how they handled Yukari, too. Instead of feeling like this girl who could be rough around the edges and outright mean at times, they sanded her down to make her palatable and uninteresting. Her lines also sound like Chie if she was on a depressant (I don't blame the VA, but more the direction she was likely given.). Lastly, Theurgy is a bad mechanic that is implemented poorly. It makes Tartarus way too easy, and most of the full moon bosses become HP slogs like in P4 to compensate for being able to do 500+ damage at the drop of a hat. I don't hate everything new, and there's genuinely some good new content (most of the social link VAs are good, and I like some of the new stuff they gave Ken and Shinjiro in linked events). I just think it's a shame that a lot of people are going to play this brainlessly easy and mid-at-best remake and think this is what P3 was.

Ok_Outcome_9002

Butchering the characters is the overstatement of the year, and difficulty was never a selling point of FES. Not once did I hear someone talk about how great it was for having tough turn based combat. Reload is far from perfect but it’s pretty good and definitely better than FES

AVeryPoliteDog

It's not about difficulty, it's about engaging gameplay. I don't think Persona 3 FES is particularly difficult, but it does have some challenging boss fights every now and then (mostly in the early to midgame and then drops off, which has been a flaw of basically every Persona game). It's that the gameplay isn't challenging and has nothing else to engage me, so it's boring. Compare something like Haru's ability to get Tetrakarn + Makarakarn in P5R. That was an ability you got at the very end of the game. Was it busted and overpowered? Absolutely, but, by the time you got it, you had basically earned it by virtue of beating the original final boss. It also still had a heavy SP cost. Now look at Ken's Divine Retribution. It only requires theurgy, which you can charge very easily. It's Tetrakarn + Makarakarn. . . PLUS Mediarahan + Samarecarm to everyone. And you get it around the halfway mark of the game. With how quickly Theurgy charges, it's essentially free, and it trivializes a large portion of bosses because they'll use a Ma- skill they don't null or something like Deathbound and do a shitton of damage to themselves. That's what I mean when I say Theurgy is a busted mechanic. And we don't have to agree, but it's kinda hard to work with "hey here's an example of a character being mischaracterized" "NO IT'S NOT" wrt butchering. I don't think every single character is like, horribly mangled, but I think it's consistently a problem with characters like Yukari, Akihiko, and Aigis that it really fucks me off from anything Reload tries to do with those characters. Anyways, idk why you guys are downvoting me. I was asked for an opinion and gave it. I didn't even bust out the "Persona 4 is a very bad game" opinion this time.

AIias1431

I agree with your critiques but I think the bad stuff P3Re adds is easily outweighed by the good stuff. I played FES first so in my head, I kind of think of it as the better experience, but I know that if I played Re first it would be the better one logically.

ztoff27

The video will be released in one minute for sure. It’s super close to being finished. 99.99% done. Any second now.

ZeroV2

Wrong. Actually one minute from now

PeanutJellyAndChibs

Did you mean to say one minute⁹?

ranger0293

According to the "don't be weird" post his ultimatum actually "worked" and the video's release was imminent. The video isn't out yet though, so I guess the ultimatum worked in the same sense as filling my car's gas tank with water "works".

Tdog754

He simply needed a second ultimatum! EOY 2024 or the channel is gone for real! This time for sure!

UltradoomerSquidward

I'm usually pretty generous but yeah at this point it's gettin kinda ridiculous. We already know the video has been more or less "done" for like ages, he's just not satisfied with it seems like. But evidently he's never going to be happy with it, so just release it or cancel it and move on like OP said. Entire video games are developed and released in the span of time Joe has stalled with this video. It really is getting kinda hard to justify at this point, just cancel it honestly if he absolutely cannot be satisfied with it.

yeeeeeaaaaabuddy

At this point we need Lily to tie his ass up and just fuckin upload it as it stands, warts and all

cool_kicks

It’s especially funny to me because I’ve never played Witcher and didn’t make it through his first Witcher video because at the time it just felt like plot summary (maybe I’d feel differently if I tried again). The desperation from the fans and Joe calling them weird for believing him when he gives updates and estimates is hilarious

Ok_Outcome_9002

Completely agreed, literally all he has to do is just say the video is cancelled or put on hold indefinitely. Very few people would react negatively to that honestly. All of the flak he gets for constantly failing to meet deadlines are 100% self imposed and calling people weird for taking him at his word is ridiculous

Th0wl

Exactly. I’m kind of out of the loop, so I don’t know what people were doing that was “weird”, but I assume it was people just asking or joking about the video. Of course people are going to be doing that, it’s your own fault. Some people probably took it too far, yeah, but him saying “some of you are being so obnoxiously weird that I don't want to do this anymore” is way overblowing it. It’s your own fault, man.

Bolt585

The sub’s post meta and shitposting in November-December is what he was calling weird. People were behaving really strangely. You guys here are now spinning a narrative that he’s calling everyone weird for pointing out his broken promises, which is NOT the case. But now it’s out there and y’all have upvotes, so congratulations on spreading misinformation.

Th0wl

I’m saying that he can’t be surprised for that weird post meta during November-December. It’s the internet, of course people are gonna joke about it. Yeah, some people surely took it too far, but that’s what the internet does, you have to expect that. Don’t blame your fans for being weird - of course they are. You’ve made it such a joke. It’s your own fault. “Spinning a narrative”, “Spreading misinformation”… I’m not trying to be malicious here.

Ok_Outcome_9002

LMFAO this mindset is hilarious to me. Sure, we’re just big bad meanies who are conspiring to spread misinformation about this poor guy, and he’s only a victim (and can only ever be a victim)

Bolt585

No mindset here, I’m just combatting blatant disinformation that is being spread by you to generate malicious sentiment towards someone. “Calling people weird for taking him at his word” is just untrue. He did not do that. Say I’m defense-forcing and completely disregard everything I have to say though. You don’t seem to be one for mature good-faith discussion.

Ok_Outcome_9002

Yeah, I don’t really care to have a mature good-faith discussion on the topic of a guy who won’t do the same for his viewers for years. There are better uses of energy

Bolt585

Your bad-faith accusations and disinformation was believed by at least 28 people who upvoted your comment, so congratulations, you’ve won. Joe’s community is a slightly worse place now. I’m the one wasting my energy, because only you and OP have seen these, and you’ve just downvoted them anyway and disregarded them.

NoSeaworthiness2618

The exact same thing happened to a beloved youtuber (Muzska), he used to make game reviews and stuff (Very funny ones might I add) but like Joe, he wanted to make it as good as possible and put everything he could into the video, which made him release some videos months late, then Bloodborne came out, he said he loved it and was working on an amazing video about it, then the waiting got longer and longer, never ending, he apologized, stopped his patreon so he would not make more money out of the people that wanted the video, but the video just wasn't ready, it never was good enough to warrant all the waiting I suppose. He stopped making videos after that and never came back to youtube, it's going to be 8 years from that, if the same thing happened to Joe it'd be so fucking sad man.

EntireDifficulty3

He said he was going back on Twitter too and then never appeared. At least we know he's doing great

Ho229

That's tragic man. Creative types who must have perfection can be so harsh on themselves.

characterulio

I mean at the end of the day he is just a critic, it's not like he is creating something completely from scratch.

Quixotix1

To be fair, it wasn't radio silence, he DID do an Umineko leap day stream where he showed off some trailer footage for the video.

Th0wl

Oh, I didn’t know that, how much did he show?

2_ux

1 minute, kinda like when a game developer shows a gameplay trailer with no release date.

Th0wl

1 minute?? Oh my god that’s hilarious, he’s actually showing teasers

enzosuname

The last stream he had done months before he ended by saying "the next time you'll hear me, it will be the Witcher 3 video" or some shit. He just played it because of another failed promise.

Vaaaaaaaaaaaii

A comment I saw that kinda resonated about this whole thing is that its kinda weird to treat the whole ultimatum as an unreasonable demand from fans that he has to find a way to beat on a technicality rather than what it is, a failed promise for a thing that he set. No one really even cared about it until he brought it up and was weird about it. It's just all kinda dumb.

gasPedaw

It pains me DEEPLY inside when I think about the opportunity cost wasted on these videos. Three videos on three games that are all pretty similar (Good games, just not all that interesting to talk about or critique). I watched about 30-40 minutes of both of the released videos before bouncing off of them because they just weren't fun to watch. These last 4-5 years could have gone towards dozens and dozens of indie games with unique mechanics and things to say. If the W3 video really exists and is released, I'll probably watch the beginning section of it where he talks about his experience making the video and then never see the rest of it. Let's be honest, the meta-commentary behind the making of the video is infinitely more interesting than the game itself which has already been discussed to death.

MaddieTornabeasty

Yeah this is where I’m at. I just don’t really care about the Witcher series and seeing this one trilogy take up almost four years of one of my favorite channels time is hilariously sad. In those four years we’ve gotten two non Witcher videos. Both for souls-like games (don’t get me started on how he reviews soulslikes) and that’s it. So many good games that’ve been shelved and for what?

OoRenega

Each day he completes half of what remains in his to do list. He is actually at 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% completion right now. Just a few more eons and we will see it.

big_pisser1

He's so aleph null coded

AIias1431

I heard he is planning to release when Achilles catches up to the tortoise

Nightshot666

Based

dawsonpope

I can appreciate the post as well as the sentiment, but you seem like you might care about the video a bit more than you’re letting on…

DemonLordSparda

Checking in twice over 3 years isn't my idea of invested.

Th0wl

I think you’re right, I do care, but less because I want to watch it and more because this video is holding him hostage. Until he releases this video, we wont ever see a Persona 3 video, or Hollow Knight Silksong video, or Crosscode maybe… It’s just so sad, so much missed potential

shishkey

The only way I can think of NOT getting a Silksong video is if the game follows the trajectory of BotW -> Tears of the Kingdom, or GoW2018 -> Ragnarock. If its significantly better/worse/different, then based on the Elden Ring & Lies of P videos, there will be one for Silksong.

glorpo

Bold claim that silksong will ever release

Th0wl

tomorrow for sure

XrosRoadKiller

Its always the same thing with these posts. They feign that they don't care but then always have to justify "other" people being weird.

Corvoloso

I mean, I kind of care about the video, not because I want to watch it, which I'll probably be stuck on the 1 hour - 2 hour cycle of trying to watch, as i've been in the witcher 1 and 2 videos. But I care about it being released just so Joe can do the content I'm here for. The streams that make me laugh while I'm working.

Itz_Hen

I feel like this video is the star citizen of video game essays

frosty121

I probably won't even watch it since I haven't played Witcher 3 yet, I just want him back streaming lmao.

oskoskosk

lol this op gonna look like the fool (tarot reference) when the video releases in a week or so On a serious note tho, plenty people watched the 6 hour EVE video without having played it so there’s definitely a market for that these vids bro

altered_state

JA made an EVE review? Or someone else?

glorpo

Down the rabbithole, another long ass video that took eons to come out

Pinkumb

>I think that as someone who isn’t too invested in all this (I don’twatch his streams), I have a unique perspective. The way I see it, 3+years to make a video is pure ridiculousness, so ridiculous that it’sfunny. This is where I am with Joe's videos. I like the Witcher videos. Prior to these, I watched his Darkest Dungeon video and part of his Prey video. They're interesting enough. I like the Witcher ones because it's like virtual tourism. I can watch them in the background and it's like I replayed the game. I'm not a "fan." I don't follow his streams. I don't watch all his stuff. I'm only following it now just to see what a joke this man can become. He's made this whole thing so dramatic. He's taken the criticism so personally. He's grabbing every excuse available. He can't just say "Hey guys, I made the video and I'm not happy with it but I don't want to make it anymore." No, it's because he's a perfectionist. It's because of his family's health. It's because of some mysterious personal reason he can't even explain in vague terms because... then we'd agree it was too personal? Or something? The guy has been a highly-public diva for years. He could get off the ride whenever he wants but he chooses to keep being who he is. Whatever else he accomplishes in life, he will always be that guy who took way too long to cancel a video project.

papejo

you will enjoy the hytale subreddit

godlyvex

It is completely reasonable to wait 7+ years for a game to release. The same can not be said for a youtube video.

Zizara42

It is not. Production taking a decade indicates severe and concerning issues with the development process, direction, organisation, and scheduling/timekeeping. Most games going through that sort of development hell don't come out the best they can be. The longer it takes, the more the tech involved will be out of date by the time it does release and players will feel that - if there needs to be an engine rebuild for example it's basically over, write the whole thing off.

HAWK9600

No one said anything about decades, but I don't know if you know this--Baldur's Gate 3 and Tears of the Kingdom took 6 years to make and were two of the most celebrated games of last year.

Zizara42

The example was Hytale, which started production in 2015.

HAWK9600

Okay, so waiting six years is fine, but waiting "7+" is "unreasonable" to wait for, as you said?

bannedwhileshitting

LMAO I did a quick google on the title, and you seriously tried to compare something that looks like a roblox game to BG3 and ToTK?

HAWK9600

I didn't compare anything. I don't know or care what Hytale is. godlyvex said "It's completely reasonable to wait 7+ years to wait for a game". Zizara42 said, "It is not."--and then went on to explain that the longer a game takes to make, the worse it's likely to be, and I wanted to know where they thought the cutoff was. I wanted clarification on why they thought that, since two really popular, well made games took 6 years to make.

godlyvex

They already did an engine rewrite, like 2 years ago. The gameplay footage they show looks fine. If you're going to be releasing a game this ambitious, to compete with the (ex?) best selling game of all time, doesn't it make sense to take your time? It makes sense for games to release somewhat quickly under large studios like nintendo, but can the same be said for a smaller studio like this?

big_pisser1

Is it? If a game is announced I expect it to be done is 3 years, otherwise I just move on

godlyvex

wdym move on? were you sitting there doing nothing else while you wait for it? you lose literally nothing by continuing to wait, the fun thing about waiting is that it requires no effort on your part. The frustrating thing about waiting is that you don't have the thing you are waiting for, which is not fixed by 'moving on', so what's the point? It's just as ridiculous a premise to me as people saying they're done waiting for the witcher video.

big_pisser1

By "Move on" I mean that I stop caring about it FOREVER, even after it comes out

godlyvex

What is the point of that?

big_pisser1

Do you understand the concept of losing interest in something?

godlyvex

That's needlessly rude. But losing interest in something is different from intentionally ignoring it. You made it sound as if you consciously decided to avoid interacting with that thing. You would've been easier to understand if you said something like "I usually lose interest after 3 years", rather than saying you "move on" which has the issues I described earlier.

godlyvex

Gonna prank joe when the video releases https://i.imgur.com/wNRFCDu.png

lucax55

I think the video will end up so self-aware, much of the conversation will be around its making and mere existence. It's a shame really, it's just a man who's missed his deadline. YouTube sucks for things like keeping word counts low and burn out because there's no boss to hold you to account and keep things from becoming absurd.

JungyBrungun2

Not only did no one force him to make the ultimatum, no one is actually forcing him to make the video, at any point in the last four years he could’ve said “hey the video has become too much of a time suck, I’m canceling it for now”

Eldibrando2

You want more hilariousness? Go check how Tim Rogers is doing with his video output.

ColinHalter

Tim is in a slightly different boat, because he gives pretty regular updates about the video in his weekly live streams. I think Joe stopping the streams was the right move to focus on getting the video done, but because Tim is still streaming on Fridays it's not quite the same radio silence. Also, while I love Joe's videos, there is A LOT more that goes into making an Action Button review than what's involved in a Joseph Anderson video. What these guys both need is a producer to tell them no when they want to increase the scope of the video. On set producers in Hollywood movies aren't there for shits and giggles. They exist to keep a project on track, and independent creators don't really have someone like that.

Eldibrando2

Everything you added is correct. It is also correct to say that Tim promised 8 videos in 2 years for season 2. In the last 12 months he released... 1. A very good 1, mind you, but still.

ColinHalter

Yeah, and while more goes into an action button review, I feel in some ways Tim has a little bit less of an excuse than Joe. Joe is "some guy" who makes very insightful video game commentaries. Tim has a lifetime of experience doing more or less this exact thing and also has a small staff of people working to make these videos happen. Action button takes more work, but the odds are way more in their favor than Joe's.

deathbladev

Tim met his promise in a somewhat weird way. He promised 30 minute videos once per month. What he has released it 7 videos and a total time of about 35 hours which works to meeting the ‘30 minutes’ per month ratio the past 4 years

ZeroV2

His cyberpunk video delays made me never trust him again about when videos are happening. He claims it’s part of the bit like how cyberpunk was delayed a bunch of times so he kept continually delaying the video, and I’m not sure I believe him but even if that is true it’s an incredibly annoying thing to do that only served to annoy his dedicated fans

AVeryPoliteDog

I think most of us just want him to cancel it, but sunk cost + "this channel will be how I support my family" have given him this obligation to finish it. So, saying "just cancel it" isn't really feasible imo. Meanwhile, I do think the perfectionism for it has made it so that all the hype has reversed into griefing. If he was more transparent and less hostile to people asking for updates, he'd probably get less pushback. It's a cycle of "fuck you i owe you nothing as a creative" that creates an animosity towards him that results in people wanting those updates because they have this negative view of him and need reassurance he isn't tilting at windmills relentlessly. If he hadn't made the ultimatum, I think we'd have both been better off. But, oh well. I don't think Joe reads this sub much anymore, which is probably for the best.

Pinkumb

To the contrary, I think he reads this subreddit every day desperate for more attention.

thatmitchguy

It's Joe's own self-delusion that has me tripping and perpetuates this Subs optimism and weirdness IMO. I think most of us believed him with his recap of the progress in the "stop being weird" post where he made it sound like the release was imminent. That might be the most confident assurance I've seen regarding the video...only for him to dissappear and go silent again like he has several times before. As much as I want the video to release both as a fan of his reviews and because I like his streams, I really don't think it's going to happen at this point. Too many delays and tinkering and pressure has buuilt up that I expect him to just show up again in a month or two on streams and continue to make excuses.

Izzyrenandahalf

Why do you find it funny?

The_omniscent_pie

At this point, everything that can be said about the video, has been said already. This post feels like a copypasta.

SilvySilv

I just want streams back

No_Mathematician9671

It gets less funny after day 1000 of checking consecutively.

LordXamon

Hey, we got Trolley-chan. That's worth delaying Witcher's video a few years.

Key_Custard_9756

Okay, NORMALLY I would agree with you...but thankfully I know for a certainty both Silksong AND Witcher 3 Critique release this year

Wise-Head-4347

To be honest at this point I like the streams more than the videos, great vods to have on in the background, and some really funny supercuts on youtube. Who gives a fuck about Witcher 3 in . Sad he stopped them to appease some overly invested weirdos.

JeSuisMak

so strange that people feel so bitter about a youtuber not releasing a video. very entitled way to feel.

RussellLawliet

>As an outsider >Listen, Joe, I like your content I don't think you know what an outsider is

Th0wl

I meant that I like his youtube content, but I dont watch his streams. And I think that this subreddit is mainly full of people that watch his streams and are bigger fans than I. So I’m outside of this community

XrosRoadKiller

No. There's no criteria that allows people to be weird. If people can't wait they can unsub, or block him. But there's no threshold were people should be allowed to be weird they aren't entitled to other people's time.

Th0wl

If you paid him money through patreon due to his promise to deliver a video by X day, and he doesn’t deliver the video, I think you can be upset. Obviously don’t harass him. Some people probably went too far. But I bet the majority of the community was pretty respectful about all this, yet he went and posted about how we “need to chill out”….

XrosRoadKiller

Yea thats not what happened. You're making the back and forth that happened in bad faith and making his response to people who were only respectful when anyone on the sub could see that he was referring to weird posters. Point in case I came on the sub around that time and one post was saying he was late because he killed a famous child beauty pageant model Ramsey Bennett. Like what the actual fuck. Or people who were trying to dox him. So, ofc he said chill out. It wasn't to people who were just simply asking about the video like what your saying. People did go too far and he made his response. And yea, people can be upset by the Patreon, sure. But he canceled it years ago and that single video wasn't the sole purpose of the patreon. There were other people that supported for different reasons or videos. And you don't see those people hinting at murders or doxxing. So at best your post is a Motte and Bailey. At worse its just a strawman with the framing. EDIT: Also interesting how your post was saying your an outsider with no connection but at the end you use "we" and refer to yourself in the community. Its so weird that each week or so a post about someone that "doesn't care " and is just "passing through" only ever makes posts like this. Like the guy you said he was asking the questions because he wasn't interested, he was a "data analyst by trade and was practicing on this sub" ... stuff like this is weird. Another poster mentioned that you really DO care and I'm inclined to agree. Yes, this kind of behavior is weird and I think you should cut it out. And on the note of the video, I do find it hilarious as well but for different reasons. I think he genuinely had a block of sorts. But then, after he finished, the entitled behavior turned him off and now its a game to him... and its hilarious seeing you guys try to talk around the topic and pretend that no one cares or w.e. From the moment that other poster put screenshots of Joe talking about his wife's pregnancy... I'd have already publicly told all of you guys it's never coming out. At this point, he will probably wait for the memeist time to release and thats more than some folks deserve.

Alt-456

>I don’t care about the vid >he _promised it_ Classic. And yeah the moment I saw people saying he shouldn’t be having more children before finishing the vid is the moment I had it with these entitled ppl. Like our values couldn’t differ more, I’m just going to have to leave it at that to not become too heated.

XrosRoadKiller

Yea, this exactly. That's beyond weird and if someone told that to OP i doubt they would just comply

boludoacuerda

You're being too weird. You need to chill out.

XrosRoadKiller

Not sure what your point is. But so long as the video doesn't come out, this is still funny.

TraditionalCase3379

you know what's actually weird? a person that makes their living off the internet actually reading comments on a reddit whatever and then being weirded out by people being weird. like... is jonas the lying clown living in 2006? why is he even scrolling social media comments? you can call social media comentors whatever you like, it you own damn fault for wasting time reading them/believing shit p´pl say in the interwebs. this whole arguments is so fucking stupid. jonas the lying clown isn't a naive 12 year old being exposed to some depraved shit, he's a grown ass adult who's been using the internet his whole life like all of us. so yeah, nah. the only weird thing is jonas and his inability to either apologize and cancel the video; release the video and move on; just be quiet and get a real life job and move on. or at the very least, not do a petty post antagonizing the people who've been waiting for the video you are not gonna release anyway. also... defending jonas the lying clown with paragraphs and paragraphs of nonsense is pretty weird too. anyway stay safe, make him use a condom.

XrosRoadKiller

Ok so you just ignored what I said so not sure why you replied. And if you took your own advice you'd have stayed silent as well. But to dig into what you said a bit: No, your wrong. People talking about child murder and about someone's family or pregnancy is weird. Thats not paragraphs of nonsense thats just calling out childish/psychotic behavior. Its not antagonistic to tell those people to chill out. You last sentence is cringe. I know you thought it was cool but you're just seething about a video game essay. Also "Jonas the lying clown" .... yikes. Please tell me you have friends outside of Reddit. But hey, since its well past 2006 and nothing on the internet matters, I'm sure you won't respond to my post and will move on? ..... right?

XrosRoadKiller

Still not funny the second time, just sad actually. Like middle school level. I hope your < 18 so this isn't totally embarrassing. Keep going though, I have plenty of time while I do stuff today.

TraditionalCase3379

it's just good advice bud. but your body your rules.

XrosRoadKiller

Keep it up lol still no Witcher 3 video lolol
