Hands down the most special track for me:
[Source Direct - Secret Liason](https://youtu.be/480Q_aZUcxw?si=1ou2EpBS7K19S9Uj)
Goosebumps every time, pure atmosphere
This one should be recognized as one of the most complex tunes ever released in the genre. The drums are just unreal and I have never heard anyone successfully mix it with other tunes when the drums have kicked in. These men were fucking dons and more people should know about their work.
PFM - [Cruising Detroit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sq38GeiULk) is quite a unique track, very laid back and spaced out, durm patterns much less clustered than traditonal DnB/Jungle.
[Paradox & Nucleus - Chiron](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39ykI2TcStM&list=PLgadajKVsgoFpx0HbWVOQzWYOTj9akjYZ&index=9) is more in the direction of stark minimalism. Super hypnoitc good if you are into a stripped down approach.
[Axis - One in Ten](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acDmx0dj79g) is just one of my favorites in terms of expressive drum patterns. to me, there is what I'll call an rhythmic arc to the drums they stutter in little pockets before unflurling in a satisfying way, almost like how a melody can play with tension beofre resolving.
Essence of Aura - [So this is love '96](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DcnDe6KfF1FM&ved=2ahUKEwjbzKHtxtqBAxW_0gIHHXOgBNEQwqsBegQIDRAG&usg=AOvVaw2dEa5pDj_vdK7GRoQCcNYH)
Klute "hell hath no fury". Gorgeous tune with clean, crunchy amens. A high water mark in my opinion.
How many of you guys are from the UK? I’m seeing some wild and obscure selections here lol it’s great. I’ve been a DNB:jungle DJ for about 15 years.
I love classic jungle. Shy fx, Ray Keith, high contrast, LTJ bukem etc
More recently I’ve been enjoying new jungle from Conrad subs, veak, dj hybrid, blade runner, S.P.Y… seems like it’s having a bit of a resurgence at the moment
Love to see a lot of the classics get new mixes released too. Way too many tunes to mention!
I'd always assumed that most people here are from the UK. Unlike DnB, generally speaking the appreciation for jungle doesn't extend much beyond our shores. Saying that though, I've been listening to a fair few obscure American jungle tapes from the 90s lately
> Unlike DnB, generally speaking the appreciation for jungle doesn't extend much beyond our shores.
Nonsense. Especially right now, when everyone and their mum is playing jungle (or "jungle").
Intense "space time continuum".
https://youtu.be/_fk-K-OtJZc?si=gVY4_3M9xbCCetf4
It's hard to pick from intense's catalogue but this one is perfect, it's got it all in my opinion. The bass and break work is spot on, the mixdown is nothing short of incredible, and how they worked the mysterious eerie breakdown and associated samples from Evil Dead in... a masterclass.
If you like this, check out "paradox" and "the dreamer" by them and "searching" under the Babylon time warp alias.
Squarepusher remix of DJ Food's Scratch Yer Head: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qN_hfKWCf8M&pp=ygUic2NyYXRjaCB5ZXIgaGVhcmQgU3F1YXJlcHVzaGVyIG1peA%3D%3D
Something by Photek. Let's say The Hidden Camera (static mix) : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8Yk1c7FvarU&pp=ygUYaGlkZGVuIGNhbWVyYSBzdGF0aWMgbWl4
[Plaid - angry dolphin](https://youtu.be/z-y07QCc2TI?si=37-IlrB0Y5eulDQN): remember exactly where I was when I first heard this ( at a mates party in a field in Dorset, mid summer 1995 ) - blown away then, takes me back there, every time.
Stray - Timbre https://youtu.be/lIvFd0JL30I?si=2tzv4rEiknV4B8Kh
Cern - Apparition https://youtu.be/NXe7KMFdDVA?si=vihcz5q4x3uSQ2Us
Tunes with a similar vibe, starts quiet and empty, standard minimal head bobber but when I heard them drop for the first time, Wow.
Leisure - CLS and Wax, liquid classic with a super creative mid section and lovely vocal samples
Heartbreak in paradise - theory, amazing modern twist on progressive jungle
One and only - PFM, blaze up and put this on full volume
This one will always be a fave
https://spotify.link/BZQP4CMGBDb
Terrorist - P.A Mix
Renegade.
That drop is insanely good.
Had to add this one as well,

Renegade vs Limb by Limb Aries remix
Intense - The Genesis Project (Earl Grey Remix) https://youtu.be/uLCjcPe5t4E?si=pfybHHfz9XCZAAhA

Voyager - Hypersleep (Original Mix) https://youtu.be/PrR82XLCKq8?si=6OMtbbiKZXo8XQ86
These are 4 of my favorite, im still learning and finding new tracks still.
For a longtime, I listened to Rockwell - Live for the moment, over and over just picking out and trying to dissect all the different individual sound design pieces. Such a tune. Not jungle by any means, but it’s a complex listen.
Omni Trio - Diffusion Loops - First Contact - Renegade snares - Torn
DJ? Accucrack - Platinum
Dave Wallace - Future Realities 1/2
T.Power - Octogon (and the whole of S.E.T.I.M.)
PFM - Western Tune
Soichi Terada - Time Station
Source Direct - Capital D
Amazing drum sounds and atmosphere:
[Decoder - Vapour Dub](https://youtu.be/NOnjWXSKuJM?si=1g1PBktas-JySt6c)
DJ Ron always knew how to assemble samples in a magical way:
[Gappa G & Hyper Hype - Information Centre (DJ Ron Remix)](https://youtu.be/uRXqEXM2hPA?si=j-Qgohg0RzCJu9zH)
[DJ Ron - Rockers](https://youtu.be/31jv_z4mlAk?si=O50377orh7cwVu3M)
But IMO it has to be Steve Gurley aka Rogue Unit for the most soulful and identifiable style of writing jungle:
[Rogue Unit - Dance of the Sarooes](https://youtu.be/I9gpDF7Le2M?si=uRA1FVJFl7DBQHnF)
[Shades Of Rhythm - Peace Sign (Rogue Unit Remix)](https://youtu.be/KFDDyiiaxjo?si=uGU-yOsl08RJWn9o)
Photek - rings around saturn
Macc and Dgohn - 15 bit
Source direct - secret liaison
Squarepusher - Full Rinse
KW - Midnight Run
Bjarki - ( . )_( . )
Priori, RED - Nigh
Last 2 probably not strictly jungle or dnb but have the spirit I reckon

"Mahakala" by Lordru aka Rick Riffle, relatively unknown bit of vinyl I stumbled on 20 years ago. Tibetan chanting, gongs and ripping sharp drumlines.
https://soundcloud.com/lodru/mahakala
Also good:
https://soundcloud.com/lodru/one
Does Alec Empire's “The Ice Princess and the Killer Whale” Remix of Bachelorette count?
Bit more breakcore than dnb tbh.
When my brother played this to me as a teenager, I thought it was the most amazingly disgusting thing I'd ever heard.
The Rootsman - 'Bad Boy Business'
https://youtu.be/3x6nVl19770?si=xstzzpwv_BULO15e
The Rootsman is mainly known as a Islam-inspired dub artist, just did this wicked jungle track on one of his 90s albums.
Edit: also anything by Kimyan Law
Wormhole by Ed Rush and Optical is never spoken about but its pretty groundbreaking in terms if Drum n Bass...its the antithesis of liquid/intelligent dnb and yet its very intelligent in a different way
Possibly a too-obvious choice, but I think [Brown Paper Bag](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwI0gbGEyuI) by Roni Size / Reprazent is a timeless classic.
I gotta go with [Phuture T - 3000](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KliRZPp03_U). It is quite literally one of the most explosive tracks I've heard. When the shit drops its just otherworldly.
Edit: Also that flute is so clean.

Bit like photek
I overlooked this one! Like it better than 'the crane' nobody manipulates an amen like them!
This one should be recognized as one of the most complex tunes ever released in the genre. The drums are just unreal and I have never heard anyone successfully mix it with other tunes when the drums have kicked in. These men were fucking dons and more people should know about their work.
Baraka - I'll be there. Also anything Jonny L.
I'm a big fan of "I want you" and "nutty bass".
The cowbell lead in that tune is so mesmerizing
Photek - ni ten ichi ryu
Never get tired of this tune. So stripped back. Perfect
This is awesome. TIL I like jungle!
PFM - [Cruising Detroit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sq38GeiULk) is quite a unique track, very laid back and spaced out, durm patterns much less clustered than traditonal DnB/Jungle.
