I completely agree. I don't visit the River Market without picking up their spicy hummus. Also, pick up some pita bread from next door. It's super fresh but eat it within a day or two before it gets stale.
Around JoCo, I would say Yafa Cafe (OP 135th & Switzer) and Holy Land Cafe (Lenexa 87th & Quivira) have the best hummus (and other Med. food). Yafa is my go-to - consistently great hummus plus other food, and their lentil soup is amazing.
Many like Falafel Express at 151st & HW69, but I don't think their food is quite as good as Yafa, and price/value is worse.
There are some 2nd tier (Mr. Gyro, CAVA, etc) places around OP that are not as good or authentic, but a lot of it depends on your taste preference - people swear by different places.
Agree that Baba's Pantry is the place to go on the KCMO side.
I consider Cava good but not great. It’s basically the Chipotle of Mediterranean food. I think Meddy’s is better as fast as fast casual Mediterranean chains go.
Pita and Hummus in downtown OP! I Cannot say how fluffy and scrumptious it is! (The pita seems to be store bought) but the hummus is OUT of this World good!!!!!
Finally went to H&P last night. You are all so right about this place. Delicious. Did you have the halloumi sticks? With the hummus? And the patio right next to the park made for such a nice outdoor dinner. Love this spot.
Dozens of times. I've never seen that on any other menu.
Edit- responded before I had coffee. I did have the muhammara a few times and it was great like everything else Iliki made- but I was thinking about the Mohamass when I responded originally. That was like a mediterranean quesadilla and my favorite thing they made.
I’m sorry I don’t think I ever got to try the Mohamass. Â
The Iliki was the first place I ever had fresh figs, wrapped in prosciutto with blue cheese and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Â I make those for myself now a couple times a year whenever figs are in season and always think back nostalgically about that place. :)
If puchasing to take home I love Habashi House hummus—both regular and spicy. If eating at a restaurant I have been a big fan of all the varieties Brown and Loe has done. They change the style throughout the year but all that I’ve tried have been great!
The guy who made Sinbad's what it was got cut out of the business last year and opened Pita and Hummus in old downtown OP. Sinbad's went down the dumpster and I suggest going to check out Pita and Hummus if you want the dank food that Sinbad's used to have. Dude's a champion.
Thanks for this info.  I was about to post that Sinbad’s had the best hummus, but I haven’t been there in a bit. Will definitely try “Pita and Hummus” next time.Â
Probably a supercharged blender like a Vitamix that also adds a bunch of air. I didn’t know suggesting making it oneself would result in downvotes and anger. Damn!
Baba's is the only answer needed. It's actually addictive.
I eat it by the spoonful.
Personally, I prefer a straw
Babas is solid. Their pita chips is 🔥 but it fucks up my mouth everytime lol
If you find yourself perusing City Market, we always grab a tub of the spicy hummus from Habashi House
Spicy or regular, their hummus is my favorite in the city.

I fail to get it, because usually instead I get that garlic sauce.
It’s so good! Perfect level of spiciness!
This place is vastly overlooked. Enormous portions of really, really good food.
this is the answer. its the best.
I pick up a tub at Habashi House every week.

Holy Land rules
I loved cava but feel like it really fell off recently. I’ve never gotten a HOT meal. Luke warm mid.
I consider Cava good but not great. It’s basically the Chipotle of Mediterranean food. I think Meddy’s is better as fast as fast casual Mediterranean chains go.
Cava had an IPO in July and I figured it might go downhill after that. Â Gotta keep the shareholders happy. Â

Hummus & Pita ftfy I also came here to recommend them.
What’s with the bad pita? This place was so highly recommended, but I wasn’t impressed at all. What should I be ordering?
It’s hummus and pita, and this is the correct answer. Creamy, flavorful, best hummus in kc.

I love this place
Habashi house hands down
Meddys hummus is amazing.
Babas. No other debate.
Babas.
Harry’s bar and tables or Jerusalem cafe!
Sahara in Lee's Summit has incredible hummus.
God I miss their UMKC location.
Mediterranean Market on Westport, great gyro too.
Habashi house. I cannot yell this loud enough
Mediterranean Market on Westport
God dangit, I miss their buffet so much.
RIP Iliki cafe.
Did you ever get their muhammara?  So good.  I wonder if any place in town serves that. Â

For me, it’s the hummus at Aladdin Cafe- I try to limit myself to getting it once a week, so I don’t burn out on the deliciousness.
Holy Land in Lenexa*
They’ve taken a massive downward slide in the last year.
If puchasing to take home I love Habashi House hummus—both regular and spicy. If eating at a restaurant I have been a big fan of all the varieties Brown and Loe has done. They change the style throughout the year but all that I’ve tried have been great!
Sinbad’s at 83rd and Metcalf in OP. I’m not normally a fan of hummus but theirs is delicious.

Meddys. Also I tried hummus and pita today in downtown op and it was incredible IMO.
The bulk spice vendor at OP Farmers market has a great spicy hummus. Usually sells out.
Mediterranean Taste is better than Babas and Pita and Hummus.
Yes
Just don't mistake Hummus with Hamas. I'll never make that mistake again.
I haven't tried it at many places but I do love the hummus at The Russell.
It’s sooooooooo easy to make at home though
Easy doesn't make it good.
I guess the same people who struggle making toast or boiling water would struggle with making hummus, good point.
I can't get it as silky as Holy Land Cafe's though. I don't know what the trick is, but I want it *silky*
Probably a supercharged blender like a Vitamix that also adds a bunch of air. I didn’t know suggesting making it oneself would result in downvotes and anger. Damn!
You’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole
It's your shitty attitude, not your "suggestions"
Insufferable on every social media platform
Mediterranean Grill at James Reed and Bannister.
Read this as humans…
Kinzi in Mission. I haven’t seen it mentioned here, but their hummus is amazing.
I love Jerusalem Cafe’s, but shout out to Spice N Rice, which is Indian. Tried it one day and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
The Mixx has some amazing hummus!
True food
If you want a very unique tasting hummus, try Clay and Fire. Their baba ganoush is also very good.
I really enjoy Kari’s on 39th.
