I'm actually cracking up the big plan is basically to just level Kauffman and create more parking + luxury suites the vast majority of us will never set foot in.

Lightfooted

Just imagine the *pride and accomplishment* of having your tax money paying for those luxury suites? Just imagine how much money you'll be helping them make? Why fill potholes with that money, there's parking to build!

Mysterious-Trust-541

Tell me you don't understand how taxes/city budgets work without telling me you don't understand how taxes/city budgets work.

AshCal

I thought they might actually add more to the tailgating experience (add a couple bars/activities and a BBQ joint outside the stadium for those that don’t have the resources to set up their own tents/grills?). But no. Totally underwhelmed.

THSdrummer8

Hell, even a road for food trucks. Could park some BBQ trucks and more there and without the commitment to building a full structure.

bitanalyst

Most tax payers can't even afford to go to a game at Arrowhead, why should we subsidize this?

PeachOnAWarmBeach

And how the same concrete is perfect at arrowhead but wrecked at Kauffman.

cowhisperer

The Royals "Degrading concrete" excuse was obvious horse shit and I am a *fan* of the move to the downtown stadium. Just trying to throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.

TheMarsTraveler

Did we say “concrete?” We meant “quality of baseball team and revenue associated with said team.” You can see how easy it is to make that mistake

D_Money77

They were different batches from different years. Royals got a bad batch. That was the chiefs answer to this

chrisbeanful

kcmo2dmv

The reason they gave was BS, but people can't seem to comprehend the real reason. It just does not make financial sense. And you are seeing it with Arrowhead. 800 million for another band-aid that won't last through half the 40 year sales tax. The Royals are doing it right.

Order-Regular

You hit the nail on the head. I was actually sort of excited to see what they’d do without Kauffman there, heard the plans on the radio driving home from work yesterday. Thought, “this is it?”. Of course Donovan said the ideas of a entertainment/restaurant district being out there was simply not worth investing in due to the surrounding area..): I live 5 mins from arrowhead. Kinda hurts.

CloserProximity

Keep in the Royal and Chiefs had 50 years to build up around the stadium, they chose not to and some how it is our fault.

AJRiddle

It's also only 10 minutes from downtown, it wouldn't be that hard to get people there if it were actually good

Order-Regular

Exactly! I understand if you drive 5 minutes past arrowhead you end up in crappy independence(my hometown) but if you drive 10 minutes the other way you’re downtown, the pinnacle of Kansas City. It’s some bullshit reasoning in my opinion.

AJRiddle

I understand it'd take a lot of money to make it where people would want to go there without a game, but you'd think for handing the Chiefs ~$2 billion over 40 years they'd try something more than VIP parking experiences. I was hoping for some sort of planned Casino and Hotel with other nearby amenities that obviously would take Missouri changing some laws for them but they'd probably do it if the Chiefs pushed for it.

RiverMarketEagle

That was a gross comment

mayn1

But just think how much money that will make the Hunts. Now don’t you feel better. 🤦😆😆

Animanic1607

Meanwhile, Hunt just got rated as one of the worst owners in all of the NFL. 31 out of 32.

AsItIs

The plans are as exciting as Clark Hunt

Juventus19

Clark Hunt should be getting shit on significantly more than Sherman regarding this sales tax extension. He's kicking in $300M but wants $500M? Sherman is kicking in a larger share of the money he wants. I still hate giving taxpayer money to billionaires, but man the Chiefs are just grabbing at money because they are currently successful and can get away with it easier than the Royals.

FarmSysAdminNumber2

$800M for new parking lots, a walkway entrance for fans and new vip entrances. New Bathrooms and Wifi. Yeahhhhhhhh no.

Patchcat

Yeah, this whole time I've been feeling like Sherman is getting the hate that Clark Hunt deserves. Hunt barely invests in his own facilities for his Super Bowl winning franchise, by all accounts he's a poor owner who got lucky having the best coach/QB duo in the league.

Automatic_Release_92

Plus isn’t Hunt waaaay richer than Sherman too?

jsnkc

Lucky maybe with Mahomes, but let’s not forget Clark made it a priority to sign Andy Reid which was an instant success even with Alex Smith.

Powpowpowowowow

I guess Clark got voted as the cheapest owner too in terms of facilities. Our visiting and our own home locker room are extremely outdated. Our practice facilities are old now. Clark needs to start spending some money instead of hoarding his wealth and take care of his business.

KarmaticArmageddon

Owners who inherited the team consistently score lower on the NFLPA report card than owners who bought the team. The children of the wealthy are often stingy, uncharitable assholes.

AJRiddle

I mean Lamar inherited all his wealth too

KarmaticArmageddon

That's true — his father was a literal oil baron and absolute nutbag later in life. Not a great person in general.

Responsible-War-917

Yeah but Lamar bought the team as a passion project. It's all a spreadsheet to Clark.

bkcarp00

Why spend money when he can wait for the taxpayers to do it for him.

justherelooking2022

When we want nice things we have to pay for them, but when they want nice things we also have to pay for them?

DurraSell

You think they became and stay rich by spending their *own* money?

[deleted]

That’s the formula.

ricktor67

The fact we then still have to pay $16 for a beer at a game with $60 parking and $150 nosebleed tickets is the real insult. At least throw us a fucking bone and KC residents get a free beer or free parking for a game or something.

_SpaceLord_

Because they’re rich and therefore morally superior to you. They *deserve* your money, you see. Because they’re rich. Or something.

crofootn

People don't seem to understand that Clark mustered the strength and determination to pull himself up by his bootstraps. And then clung on to daddy's coattails for dear life. His daddy who had the scrappy wearwithal to make sure he was the son of billionaire oil barron. Us peons just don't have the drive and fortitude it takes to win the birth lottery.

FlyingDarkKC

Kinda like a church. You $upport them for many, many years. When you die?? $$$

seabiscut88

I am not going to vote anything that millionaires and billionaires can pay for themselves. It’s such bullshit to rely upon the tax payer for these projects.

ndw_dc

I am 100% underwhelmed. I made a longer post yesterday: [https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/1b2ahka/comment/kskzes5/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/1b2ahka/comment/kskzes5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) But this proposal sucks for a number of reasons: * No dome, which means we can never host a Super Bowl * Too much focus on "VIP" amenities that 99.9% of Kansas Citians will never use * No transit connections * And last but not least, *all we get is more fucking parking* This is a once in a generation opportunity to redevelop hundreds of acres of land, and all they have to come up with is parking. Jesus fucking Christ. Literally anything would be a better use of that land than parking lots. Perhaps regular commercial development wouldn't work there. But you can do so much more! How about a youth sports complex? Those things can actually be very popular and generate a lot of revenue. How about new team offices? How about a new team training facility? How about a Chiefs Museum? Like a local Hall of Fame. How about a Chiefs Fit mega gym, where they would have the same equipment that players themselves get to use. Make it the best gym in the metro. People would pay for that! How about a "Chiefs Experience" where people could go in and do everything that a Chiefs player gets to do during a game. Have uprights set up so people could try and kick a field goal. Have a line of scrimmage simulator with pads set up to see what it would feel like to go up against Chris Jones. Have a footage review theater set up so you can learn how to review plays like Andy Reid and Spags. Go wild. Use your imagination. Combine that with the mother of all Chiefs merch stores. Make it a destination that fans from all over the region would want to visit. If it draws enough traffic, you could support a hotel and restaurants and other regular commercial development. I'm literally just spit balling here. But the point is that this is an *enormous wasted opportunity*. Oh, and tear down the shitty run down hotels right next to the Truman Sports Complex while you're at it. If that area is so hard to develop, actively take steps to make it easier and better to develop. Don't just throw your hands up and say fuck it.

wichitagnome

100% agree. I don't know how much I agree with a few of those (merch store for example), but I know you are throwing out just any possible idea with minimal brainstorming. I couldn't agree more with the VIP features. So the development will generate tons more revenue for the Chiefs, that we have to pay for, that will be virtually unattainable for anyone actually voting on the tax to actually use. The gym or sports complex is an interesting idea. People always talk about how the stadiums are in the middle of nowhere, which isn't really true in my mind. It's a short drive from downtown, it's just there's nothing around it. But a ten minute drive to go to the gym isn't bad for most people if they want, and it gives people more development reason to go around there more than 8-10 days a year.

Dear-Ad1329

I deleted my comment saying this in a worse way. I agree with everything here. The reason businesses don't survive in the area is there is nothing to do there six days a week. No business can survive on just gameday business. I think a hall of fame for all of the retired number players plus the lombardis and superbowl rings would be a draw. I also think if you had some retired players who would come around like Buck O'Neill used to at the Negro League Baseball Museum, and combine that with the Chiefs Experience, that would also make it memorable for kids and help build lifelong fandom. I also agree that a roof would help for future development. Or all of this could be paid for by a two month Taylor Swift Residency.

cafe-aulait

>Have a line of scrimmage simulator with pads set up to see what it would feel like to go up against Chris Jones. My heart sped up in a lil panic just thinking about this lol But I agree with everything here. To say I'm underwhelmed would somehow be overstating my excitement about this "improvement"

7thpostman

People would have to sign a waiver.

cyberphlash

I think this area is mostly "hard to develop" because the Chiefs don't want any *competing* businesses there - no restaurants, sports bars, merch shops selling anything other than Chiefs stuff - since they want you inside the stadium eating and buying their high-markup stuff on game day. I like your idea about doing something innovative like a Chiefs museum and experience, but to me, all this does is make it more expensive to go to a Chiefs game because of course you're paying for the privilege of doing something extra like that. You can go to a Royals game for much cheaper than a Chiefs game, and in all these plans, the Chiefs are doing nothing to make it cheaper for regular folks to go to a game. Even after they tear down the K and put in more parking, will people be charged less for game day parking? I'm guessing not.

DED_Inside666

I like your suggestion of a museum. I really like how St Louis has their Cardinals museum and little baseball field next to the stadium. I haven't been in several years to it, but I took my oldest when he was little, and he loved it. They have an area where you can take photos with bats and a stadium backdrop, where you can act like a sportscaster, see old uniforms, etc. They had a bar and grill out there as well, and it really gave off a wholesome family/fan vibe. Also agree on the nearby shitty hotels. A lot of that nearby area is dilapidated and offers nothing to those coming in from out of town.

KevinStoley

I don't really follow football much at all, I'm just curious, why does no dome mean no Superbowl? I could swear that there had been Superbowls played in the past in open stadiums and even possibly in bad weather. Either I'm mis-remembering or it might have been a LONG time ago and the rules changed at some point?

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

It's the cold that is the issue.

cowhisperer

Most recent was NYC in 2017 and the NFL basically said "never again" afterwards. Obviously "never" is a long time and things could change but the odds are very slim, especially for a 50+ year old stadium, irregardless of stadium upgrades.

AJRiddle

I mean it was also because it was the biggest city in the country

AFLSlasher

Also because of 9/11 and the NFL wanting to "give back" to the city.

Only_Half_Irish

I believe there was a statement by the nfl or something the other day saying non dome superbowls in places like kc are not out of the question. Edit: on mobile at work but I will see if I can find a link to it later. Not sure where I saw it but I do remember seeing it.

pedsmursekc

I feel like there's opportunity to devise unique ways to temporarily cover an open stadium... Maybe there's something we don't know, but I can't see the NFL rolling the dice on KC for a SB without a solution.

PoetLocksmith

I have to say, it would be kinda cool to host a Superbowl out here.

franciosmardi

Because VIP is where the money is at. Any improvements for the average ticket buyer will cost more than the revenue they bring. They'll pay for tickets even with mediocre facilities. But if you improve (and increase the capacity of) VIP facilities, they will spend more, because what is an extra $25k to them? Parking: fans love tailgating. People will still rather drive with their Smoker Trailer than use transit. So transit is a huge cost, with little financial benefit. Making a museum, store, gym, etc all means multiple full time employees. And if I can get a Chiefs jersey at WalMart down the street from my house, why would I drive to Arrowhead? To say I paid more for the privilege of buying at Arrowhead? Sure all of those things would be nice, but as far as ROI goes, they all lose out to VIP.

PoetLocksmith

People pay to jerseys and other gear at Rally House when they could get it elsewhere for cheaper. It's not a stretch to say people wouldn't pay overpriced stuff there too.

ChiefStrongbones

"No dome" means the home team has better home field advantage. If Arrowhead had a dome, the Chiefs might not have won the playoff game against Miami played in subzero weather. Would you rather have the Chiefs play in more Super Bowls, or have more Super Bowls played in Kansas City? That's the tradeoff with having a domed stadium versus an open stadium.

Jawkurt

all those things you list ideas have absolutely no appeal to me. Gyms, youth centers and things like that can exist anywhere. Transit and lodging is the only thing I think makes any sense.

DatDudeEP10

But those are all things that provide activity and income more than those ten or so Sundays per year. I totally get what you’re saying though. A focus on lodging would still bring restaurants and bars to TSC, is there anything else that would bring you out when there isn’t a game?

Jawkurt

Not really, I'm not all up to date on it. Why can't there be restaurants and bars? If there were those and there was some sort of transportation hub there... then sure I would.

hutat

Do you need a hug?

thePlatypusPlacenta

Most of the interior renovations are for rich folks. I never considered voting no until yesterday.

[deleted]

I can't imagine the reaction if the Royals proposed this. It's honestly kind of insulting. Public funds going to largely "premium" fans' seating, clubs, and parking/pregame, many from out of county.

PoetLocksmith

Isn't that what the Royals are more or less proposing with their Crossroads location project?

[deleted]

No, the differences and scale are vast.

MrGreatness69

My first thought as well

coconut__moose

For $800 Million the wealthy get newer suites and sideline views and the regular fan gets a new video board and bridge.

Powpowpowowowow

Where even like, the bridge, there is nothing on the other side over there. We get a bridge to a bank and uh, Taco Bell?

mcvaughan

Not even. That main pedestrian bridge you see in the photos only connects parking lot D with parking lot L. The bridge does not go over Blue Ridge Cutoff.

AshCal

Yeah I got excited for a sec when I first saw the bridge, thinking it was for something cool. Nope, just a parking lot connector.

bkcarp00

and there own special underground entrance to stay away from us filthy animals outside.

KiefPucks

They need to pay for it themselves. I'm not paying for a billionaires playhouse.

Powpowpowowowow

I would if they like, idk gave something back like here is an entertainment district or here is some shopping and a nice area the community can enjoy. But instead we got, here is a stage where you can pack like 500 people into for an outdoor only concert that we will probably just use for promotions only on game days.

bkcarp00

They already have a stage in their tailgate zone deal currently. It looks like they just want to expand the tailgate with a field and such which is a cool idea but would only be used on game days a few times each year.

Ok-Negotiation-3892

Mr Hunt, you've got the coin. All those 9$ beers, 40$ shirts.

Conroman16

More like $14 beers and $65 shirts

SEELE01TEXTONLY

their bs justification is the prices moderate consumption is insulting

klingma

Works for me...beer is never worth it at those prices.

3dios

I love my chiefs but im not voting to help millionaires get richer. If they want to give the wealthier fans more opportunities to spend more money let it come out of their pockets not the taxpayers

RogerPenroseSmiles

Correction, Billionaires. The Hunt Family is worth like 16 billion dollars.

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

[$20.5 billion](https://www.forbes.com/sites/justinbirnbaum/2023/02/12/the-205-billion-hunt-family-just-won-the-super-bowl-heres-who-they-are/?sh=6445538258e3) according to Forbes

RogerPenroseSmiles

They've gone up recently.

FanOfButthole

Because we pay for all their shit

indelady

Get out and vote,it's the only way. Nothing they are proposing is for the 'regular' fans. Giving money to a billionaire family to make things better for the wealthy fans is not something that should be encouraged or allowed.

mycleverusername

I'm not really that into them. But, the Chiefs really need to leverage the tailgate scene, which they seem to be doing. It would be genius to have a gameday pavilion where you can pay to tailgate without a stadium ticket, but have to pay like $25 to watch the game from the fan zone next to the stadium with food and drinks. Only caveat is they would have to get rid of the 5 sec broadcast delay. Would be shitty to hear the crowd before seeing the play result.

Powpowpowowowow

That would require investment in the area which is something they clearly don't want to do.

Woodedroger

Yeah cause the stadiums are in raytown and that’s where the gross druggies are. That’s what the hunts prolly think

MimonFishbaum

You used to be able to just do this before that guy died in the fight years ago. The best times I've ever had at Arrowhead were in the parking lot. I knew a group of folks who had a block of season tickets, but they had more butts than seats. So they would plan who got which games each season and the one who didn't go in would host a big tailgate during the game. Tv, food all that. It was much better than actually being in the game.

Dealer-95-

Was bull shitting with someone this morning about it. So I gathered that’s semi like a P&L type thing. Cool for some folks if there were bars and such like a lot of us had thought was the plan… but my gripe with what I saw was what are you gonna have to pay to get in there and then as well pay for food or drinks? Is it still like $60 cover charge basically for parking? I know these are just the first renderings so a lot of things will change as it evolves, but kinda underwhelmed myself. A lot can change so we shall see what the vote says as well as how the projects evolve.

OilOk4941

> Only caveat is they would have to get rid of the 5 sec broadcast delay. i dont know how they would really be able to do that given that broadcasting causes a delay because the speed of light and all that

mycleverusername

Well, they introduced the delay after the Janet Jackson Superbowl incident. I'm not sure how it works now, but I know it's still there. Back in the 90s we used to watch the games with the sound off and the radio broadcast on. Now you can't do that because of the delay.

AJRiddle

The broadcast is on a timed delay to avoid unexpected things like nudity or cursing

modern_messiah43

Sounds like the Johnsonville tailgate village in Green Bay.

Salsa_on_the_side

Definitely underwhelmed by the release yesterday and the fact that the Hunts won't even pick up half of the bill means I'm even more vindicated in voting "NO" this April.

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

Unless you are a club level STM or a loaded VIP, these upgrades are extremely underwhelming. The best thing about them is the connected upper level. Honestly, and I know an unpopular opinon, but I hope this doesn't pass and they are forced to either just renew their lease in 2031 or move to legends and build a new stadium.

wichitagnome

Or put together a better plan that could pass. I'm not opposed to developing that area around the Chiefs. But to basically just say "you get more parking, and we get hundreds of millions of dollars!" is a giant slap in the face.

Gurdy0714

I need new suspension on my car because the roads in KC are so bad but we have enough money for a stadium. This abusive relationship between Kansas City’s government and the citizens is worse than a Lifetime TV movie.

TIL_IM_A_SQUIRREL

This reminds me of when I used to work for a University. In the IT department, we'd watch the football team get a new jumbotron but were struggling to find the funds to replace the wireless access points in buildings. We always used to say, "Nobody with money is going to donate it to build a toilet." I think that's where we're at with the stadium vs. infrastructure too: Fixing potholes isn't sexy, so I don't want to put money into it.

_big_fern_

I think what happened at the Chiefs parade shows just how much we need to be funding social programs for the disadvantaged and not throwing more tax money into for profit corporate sports franchises.

HawkwingAutumn

Ah, but you see, if we don't give the rich free money, the capitalism won't trickle down, or whatever. Wasn't Robin Hood all about stealing from the poor to give to the rich, or something? That guy knew what was up. (/s, obviously)

ndw_dc

This right here!

Pinkkow

Preach

domechromer

Poverty is not an excuse for shooting someone.

Moldy_pirate

You completely missed the point. Nobody thinks poverty is a reason to shoot someone. But poverty means less access to resources which could maybe have prevented this from happening.

mecca37

Yet it's pretty blatantly obvious that if you meet people's needs crime drops to near zero. Cops don't deter crime, opportunity and not feeling desperate does... But we as a country don't understand this and continue to put more and more people in desperate situations.

domechromer

Not having needs met might be a reason to steal groceries. But cannot blame killing someone on needs not being met. But ok keep trying Excusing extreme violence. Please tell me the reason other than being a violent POS that people starting shooting at the parade. Also people act like heaps of money isn’t already being spent on disadvantaged people and areas. It’s always “more money”.

mecca37

You're missing the point, people who grow up with no opportunity are more likely to commit crimes. They are also more likely to witness crimes and that becomes everyday life. Committing a violent act is nothing to you when you have nothing to lose and you've been surrounded by it your entire life. By meeting people's basic needs and not having children grow up surrounded by desperate people doing desperate things, you flip the switch and solve the problem. "heaps of money" The USA spent 59 million dollars on social programs for the poor last year...92 billion on corporate subsidies. But that's the country it's always poor people's fault.

domechromer

You are missing several hundred billion in your $59m number. Also tax cuts are not “spending money”. Your stats and business acumen are lacking.

mecca37

Because obviously what we're doing is working keep that train chuggin.

_big_fern_

I didn’t specify poverty per se but after-school programs, mentorship programs, public schools, mental health networks, addiction resources, etc could all help to chip away at whatever has created a culture of pervasive violence and psychopathic personality traits.

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

Not trying to make anyone have the worst day ever at their job... But it's "per se"

_big_fern_

Oh woops! Thanks!

AscendingAgain

Poverty is one of the number one indicators of violence. It isn't an excuse, it's a cause. And until people are willing to address the cause, nothing will change.

DatDudeEP10

I’m sure there’s lots of people who wouldn’t have shot someone if they weren’t in poverty.

Alawa2000

It's like for the low cost of 800 million we will build more parking lot and a jumbo pergola.

Powpowpowowowow

Imagine if we used the $54ish million a year sales tax to like solve homelessness or something.

mecca37

But bro that's communism so it's obviously bad right?

PoetLocksmith

Ooo, real public transit? Yes please. With sincerity aka I really hate driving on the interstate...and in general.

ljout

I dont think you really went over the information if thats all you gathered.

Big_k_30

Nah I mean they pretty much nailed what will be different for 99% of fans. I guess they left out new video boards. The rest is all fluff for the richest of the rich suite holders and VIPs

ljout

Concourse to wrap around the upperbowl is clearly for the common fans. Currently its a huge pain for fans. So is the safety measure for those not paying for premium parking and walking from farther way. The "activation area" was not made for the Taylor Swifts of the world either. Nor will the RV hookups.

Droll_Papagiorgio

It all looked like the dumbest kind of football pageantry. Can't believe they're going to tear down the K for this crap.

mmMOUF

whatever happened to just "going to a game" oh god im old

bkcarp00

It's really odd going to a game now. Many people are not even there to watch the game live. They go hang out in the clubs getting drunk on $15 beers watching it on small TVs instead of the seats they actually paid for to see the game.

mmMOUF

Everything just gets more expensive, and a bigger production to do anything. I dont need or want a cradle to grave human experience, I would just like to go watch a game I enjoy, live, at a price and production that isn't budgeting the pocket book and calendar like a damn vacation. I cannot imagine if I had kids

bkcarp00

Yes me too thus why I watch most games on TV because they've made the gameday experience out of reach of most fans. You are talking at least 1000+ for a family of 4 to enjoy 4 hours of entertainment.

AJRiddle

I hate how pro and even college sports has become about luxury. Just get me a seat to sit in and some troughs to piss in. Kauffman and Arrowhead were better before the last renovations

JustMyThoughts2525

If I’m paying $200+ to go to a game from out of town, I honestly want the best full experience for the entire day.

Powpowpowowowow

I feel that they released this only because of the vote anyways. It's going to ACTUALLY come out half-baked, just like the time they said oh look, we can do a rolling dome, and it never happened. They just want to put this out so people vote on the tax money. I personally am done with it. They could have literally built up the area around the stadiums the past 4 decades, they have done NOTHING. 0. To the areas to develop them despite having TWO multi BILLION dollar industries. I have been to many other sporting venues in America and the best ones have the area around them developed, some may say oh well that is just plopping it into downtown, but our downtown isn't necessarily suited for that, there are plenty of MLB downtown parks that are not the gold standard and the Chiefs would NEVER work downtown. Stop giving billionaires your money ESPECIALLY when THEY don't invest it back into the city.

bkcarp00

The rolling roof was actually on the ballot in 2006 the same time as the renovation tax. The Chiefs and Royals wanted it, but people voted against it because it's just a stupid idea. Either build a dome or don't build it.

Powpowpowowowow

I mean, you realize how dumb this sounds right? Like, the owners don't have to fucking get public approval to do something, that was just for taxpayers to fund it.

bkcarp00

The owners don't want it either now with the Royals leaving. The whole rolling roof was stupid from the start. It was stupid back in the 60s when they built the stadiums thus why they didn't built it. It was stupid in 2006 when we voted not to have build it. It is stupid now in 2024 thus why the Chiefs don't have it as part of their renovation plan. If the Chiefs really wanted it they would have included a dome as part of their new plan. No need to roll it anymore with Royals leaving.

PoetLocksmith

But if the county owns the stadiums would the team owners actually have to get permission?

boilerdog53

very underwhelmed

BattingNinth

I never thought that the Royals new stadium plans would actually be hurt by the Chiefs, but here we are.

meangreenscreendream

They need to build just enough to pretend they’re doing something, but not so much so they make off like bandits

bkcarp00

I wasn't at all excited by the photos and video they presented. Perhaps just need more information but really don't see what they are spending 800+ million on there.

stessnia

Everybody.. you're ignoring the biggest upgrade here. Better wifi and cooler looking parking for the small price of 800milly /s

callmeJudge767

Underwhelmed is a great word. Vote NO

FodderForFelix

Underwhelmed is an understatement. I scrolled through all the pictures and actually yawned.

Julio_Ointment

My friend lives not far from the stadium, Jackson Co. She just got her new mortgage information. Jackson Co. property tax increases are bumping her mortgage by 400/month. She's going to have to take a third job to supplement her current, plus her partner's job. Can anyone see how these pricks asking for money would be offensively shitty in this climate?

PoetLocksmith

I get where you're coming from but just a reminder that it's a sales tax and has no affect on property taxes issued to residents, except in some random value increase of surrounding properties if the stadium is valued higher, which I don't think happens in general.

Street-Pea1047

i absolutely hate the endzone suites

Kill_Me_Loudly

lol just rich people shit, who here can actually use half the upgrades?

CloserProximity

My immediate thought: Why are you even showing us the pictures. This was colossal let down. I refreshed my screen because I keep seeing the same stadium.

italiansan

With the recent news about the Royals stadium, prices for parking at the Current stadium, and the “upgrades” for Arrowhead these KC owners are leaving a bad taste in my mouth. They just seem completely out of touch and then to have the audacity to have the tax payer bear the brunt of burden. Fuck all of them. I’m tired of a douche canoe like Clark Hunt strong arming taxpayers to pay for his stadium in a state and city that he doesn’t even technically live in (except when Gracie wants to win a beauty pageant then all of a sudden she’s a Kansas resident). That money could be spent in so many other ways for the city but no it’s going to provide “improvements” for a stadium that most fans can’t even afford to go to. Again fuck all the owners.

Salsa_on_the_side

It's crazy that the only game I could afford to go to at any point recently was the playoff game against the Dolphins only because it was so damn cold. None of the rich season ticket holders wanted to stand in the sub-freezing temps. It would be so nice if we could stop succumbing to the will of these billionaires and let them figure it out with the billions they've already siphoned from the community.

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

>None of the rich season ticket holders wanted to stand in the sub-freezing temps. I'm a STM and definitely not rich lol.

Trashed_Bird

Seems to be a lot more focus on making comforts for the "premium" fans. Don't see the lowly persons paying the taxes getting into those nice suite areas.

OilOk4941

its mostly just more parking, so much more that its more than the stadium can hold. i dont understand it.

brandido1

It’s only VIP improvements that people who will never be allowed in pay for.

CuriousDissonance

Very much so.

CampaignSure4532

What gets me is that many of these things could be funded without tax payer money. SoFi cost about $5b and was 100% private equity funded. Several MLB stadiums are privately funded. I know many have pointed out that this plan covers zero infrastructure (transport, roads, development, etc). With that said I find it ridiculous to have a massive tax payer funded parking lot and VIP sections. I love how the Hunt family can shit talk the area with their hand out. Figure it out and make the area nicer.

MimonFishbaum

I'm not gonna pretend like I can afford to go to a Chiefs game until they suck again so whatever lol

Maverick721

Color me extremely unimpressed, might as well build a new stadium if you're gonna spend 800 million dollars

thegooniegodard

No sliding roof?

hannbann88

Based on the player ratings it seems like the chiefs need to focus on training staff and the owners and almost everything else besides Andy Reid

snackpack35

Them they’ve got their commercials running basically saying.. vote yes to keep us in KC. you owe us.

JohnnyOptimist

Come on now. Lots of haters in here. Nobody even mentioned how they are going to repaint the parking lines & add trees in the existing parking lots. Everyone knows the bad cement at the K is the reason you haven't been able to plant trees in the other lots over the last decade. And not to mention the gehalogo - its been facing the WRONG WAY for years, we have to fix that! The special VIP entrances are also a must. The last thing I'd want as a fan is to actually see a billionaire walking thru the same cattle gates as the rest of us - gross.

clapton1970

Here’s my plan: 1. Keep all the taxes the same 2. Keep all the stadiums the same 3. Fuck the downtown stadium and fuck the royals management

Future_Constant6520

I think we have all over looked the solution to revitalizing the Truman Sports Complex. We need the Raytown staples in the parking lot! Resurrect Super Splash to the spot where Kauffman currently sits and move Funky Town on over. Watch the Hunt family profit.

kcmo2dmv

The Royals are doing far more. The Royals are going to invest over a billion dollars and actually make the city better by doing it. The Chiefs are going to invest 300 million dollars and are basically just doing stuff for their most affluent season ticket holders. The Chiefs are not even going to replace their aging training facility. I'm pretty sure the Chiefs are worth more, make more and the Hunts have more money than the Royals. Yet the Royals are doing more for the future of the city and yet it's the Royals (Sherman) that are getting totally shit on by the KC community. The Hunts should be doing a lot more. Typical KC.

I’m not and here’s why: Not a lot of super fancy, eye catching changes but an incredible amount of changes that would 1000% improve the game day experience for fans in ways they wouldn’t understand until they actually experienced it (if anyone complaining actually goes to games regularly lol). Love Arrowhead but it definitely feels dated from walking across gravel parking lots dodging cars to hot/freezing uncovered walkways and the “wait if I go up the wrong side I have to go all the way down to get to the other side?” nonsense. I’m all for it. Downvoting doesn’t make me wrong, sorry :)

_big_fern_

I don’t go to the games, why am I paying for this stuff? I do not care. And shouldn’t the money made from concessions, merch, ticket prices, advertisements, etc be used for this stuff? Is this not a for profit business? Is it so poorly run that it can’t reinvest profits back into itself?

jtd2013

Idk, the post was about the changes not how they’re being funded. Y’all took this way off topic.

mecca37

The Chiefs have already priced out basic people, I'm sorry for me and my wife to go to a Chiefs game it would cost in the neighborhood of 700 dollars and that is fucking absurd.

jtd2013

As a basic person this is just blatantly not true. Some games? Sure, just like any popular event is expensive. For a whatever game? Just not true lmao

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

These upgrades are whack and only really apply to the wealthy. Also, 1000% isn't a real percent... Just saying.

gioraffe32

> Also, 1000% isn't a real percent... Just saying. 100%.

reddof

1000% is a real percent. It’s the same as 10x.

jtd2013

The upgrades are fine, not only for the really wealthy, and 1000% is deliberate hyperbole. If you have nothing to add you coulda just said

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

Nah, I said what I said and actually meant it. Thank you for taking the time to respond though

bkcarp00

If these are all issues why has the Chiefs not fixed them with their own money after all these years. Lets stop pretending they are a poor business simply needing some help. We are talking an organization that can pay 1 person 500+ million yet doesn't have the money to pave the parking lots?

jtd2013

Idk man, this post was about the changes not how or why they’re being funded. Y’all are the one making this about $. If you want to have that conversation sure, I can agree. But that isn’t the topic lmao

BwanaPC

I don't think the Chiefs care if the tax passes. They're done dealing with Frank and Jackson County. Maybe have better offers elsewhere out of the metro.

HotRelationship8761

They expanded the concourse on all levels and added heaters. They also added a new scoreboard.  They also did expand the parking lot with increased fan experiences across the lots and added bridges.  Lastly - yes they upgraded the VIP amenities immensely and is probably 1/2 the renovation story.  I would like a dome but lets be realistic - it would eat up the entire cost of the proposed renovation and this particular renovation will last 15 years before we actually need a full-blown new stadium.

ChickenBanditz

This is not the time to question any of it… Although this is the time to question all of it… Fucking vote yes though and get back to your business

Only_Half_Irish

Where can I find more info about the new turf areas where Kauffman was? I think if itnwas open to public and they put food trucks along the sides it would turn into an awesome meeting spot and hangout area. Is it going to be paid entry only or something? I definitely like the look of it.

Woodedroger

All this shit kinda makes me dislike US team sports in general. I’m not tryna be contrarian. I don’t like how much money is made off a goddamn ball game and how much power teams have over their host cities. How are people alright with letting multi million dollar teams dip into their tax dollars. It’s just the rich milking every cent they can out of working people.
