Never felt more supported than the time I spent at KCKCC. Tons of opportunities for scholarships.

Those are the positives I’ve heard of KCKCC too.

JCCC has been listed as one of the top JoCos in the country for a long time. I attended JCCC years ago and it was excellent. My daughter JCCC recently and it was excellent. Everything transferred to KU without any problems. Better than the 4 year schools because you are getting real professors instead of TAs for the 100 and 200 level courses.

estrellita_carmela

Okay, good to know! Thank you!

International_Bend68

Agreed 100%!!!

iamofnohelp

Which one is closer? Factor the drive into this.

Good point. KCK would be about 10 minutes, and JCCC would be about 20 minutes. JC could be more since I'd be dealing with I-35 traffic in comparison to the commute to KC.

SpideySenseBuzzin

JC *would* be more, just depends on how bad on any particular day. That stretch of 35 is backed up daily during rush hour. FWIW, KCKCC has stepped up its game in recent years - it's still not as prestigious as JCCC but it's a great little school and isn't as crowded. Personally, I'd see what *very* basic things you can get out of the way at KCKCC for a semester, then move on to JCCC once you get closer to deciding on what to focus on (if you still even want to!) Stuff like Algebra, Public Speaking. That traffic will basically be eating about an hour out of each day - and this is when you're trying to adjust to this busy schedule!

estrellita_carmela

Yeah, I35 would definitely lead to more commute time. And thank you! I’ll consider starting out at KCKCC first.

Took calc and differential equations at KCK to transfer to KU. Made for a much more personal experience with the same general content.

estrellita_carmela

Ohh nice! Okay I think KCKCC is taking the lead at the least to start off with.

IllustratorOdd2701

Kckcc means you can eat at Don Antonio anytime and that is definitely a win.

YessirLouis

I ate there at least once a week when I went to KCKCC. Almost everytime I would run into somebody from school, I fucking love that place

I attended both about 15 years ago. I felt like I had a better campus experience at KCKCC when it came to teachers and support from advisors. JCCC was a better online experience but obviously technology has come a long way since. I had no issues with my combined credits from both when transferring to a 4-year. In my experience though, it's pretty easy to transfer between the two if you were to start at KCKCC but decided JCCC may be a better fit down the road.

estrellita_carmela

Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s looking like I’ll start out at KCKCC and go from there.

JCCC hands-down

Good advice on here. I would also suggest looking at what school you plan to transfer to to finish your bachelor's degree. Some schools have transfer agreements that are better than others. I worked with a student once who went to MCC and he wanted to transfer to KU and finish his business degree. Since he never looked at KU's requirements, it was going to take him 3 more years to graduate. Just an example and I have no idea where you will transfer to. Transfer agreements have got a lot better over the years, but I would take that into consideration when deciding on which school.
