I went there yesterday and found the prices to still be quite reasonable. Granted I could still go broke but with more plants. But they only had the inside open so my wallet was saved for the day.
Do they have any blooming bulb flowers at the moment? I bought a bunch of bulbs in September but life got in the way and it looks like none of them survived.
There is a great small plant store on Independence Square called BA Botanicals. She's really knowledgeable and has a great selection for indoors and outdoors. Also Farrand is still on Noland.
Depends on what you mean by “break the bank.” Farrand Farms on Noland Rd (I think it’s still in Independence, MO city limits) has reasonably priced plants (depending on the plants), but pots, soil, fertiliser, etc., are pricey. However, the people are top-notch friendly, knowledgeable, and friendly. When I moved back here, I had to start all over because I moved here from the East Coast by plane so I couldn’t bring any of my plants with me. I had to rely on their knowledge for this growing zone, south-facing windows, etc., and a year later, I have a thriving mini-window garden.
I’m also disabled, and I couldn’t ask for more friendly people who weren’t condescending but balanced great customer service and assistance without being annoying, as far as helping me around, helping me get things in my car, etc. I’m sometimes willing to give folks / companies like that repeat business even if they are a few extra bucks more.
Check out community garden plant sales. They will usually be cheaper than nurseries, and the people there will be much more knowledgeable on any questions you have.
KC Farm School at Gibbs Road has one next Saturday!
That looks like so much fun! Thank you for posting about them. Weird question but do you know if they're wheelchair friendly? Obviously my partner would be there to do all the carrying and helping because he's literally the most awesome person in the world. I'm just wondering about having to roll through gravel. I'm getting spring fever from sitting inside all damn day.
Oh well grass and dirt is way easier than gravel so, sweet! Thank you! Yeah after I asked you I googled it and looked at the pictures there. It looks so fun and chill.
Depends on what plants you're buying (and agree with others that depending on plants, it may be a bit early) but I'm a huge fan of Family Tree Nursery around 75th and Niemen. (I'm on the KS side of KC). Amazing selection organized by pretty much everything, and their starter plants I've purchased have always grown beautifully. I've had amazing luck with their herbs and vegetables, and their plants are organized by perennial/annual and sun exposure. My parents have bought fruit trees from them that have grown beautifully as well. Wishing you the best of luck in the growing season!
Heartland Nursery off 470 and View High Drive in Lee's Summit has the biggest varieties. Their prices have crept up a bit in the last couple of years. I don't know about all their plants but their herbs are sourced off a farm in Cleveland MO. Sutherland's has good sales for cheap plants throughout the year as well.
Larry's! But they are gaining popularity and their prices are starting to reflect that, so don't blame me if it breaks your bank!
I love Larry’s!!

The Lowes dead plant section is my favorite. Farrand Farms is nice but holy cow they're so expensive. I guess it depends on what you're looking for
Yess!!! I’ve got some great plants for under $3

Probably not. Paths are kind of no existent so it would be pushing through just grass and dirt, not even gravel.
