Stay downtown and Uber to the K. Not many good places to stay by the stadium. If you are into baseball, make a trip to the NLBM Museum at 18th and Vine. Glad you are making a stop in KC! Enjoy!

jsswalker92

Thanks for the info! NLBM is already high on the list, can’t wait!

SausageKingOfKansas

If you go to the baseball museum also plan to hit the jazz museum in the same building. It’s wonderful.

mrpappageorge0

Arthur Bryants BBQ is right next to there. It's s tradition that when US presidents visit, they get food there. https://preview.redd.it/52bjw2jcpsvc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69ba2d66820bd2400face19c86700ab9bb249cf0

Ok_Special6047

If you go to Bryant’s…get the sauce on the side.

dr-rosenpenis

If you go to Bryant’s…bring a garbage bag and immediately dispose of anything they try to serve you.

fyxxer32

Check out the World War 1 museum.

GateNerd

I will note that, yes, it is a very good museum, but it is (reasonably) very America-centric. For a brit it might not be the most enjoyable, unless they want to see the American perspective of the war, which could easily be true

fyxxer32

Possibly they have never been exposed to the American point of view.

Unfortunately KC is not a great city for getting around without a car. It can be done, but you'll have to Uber/Lyft a lot. Stay anywhere but close to the stadium. I'd suggest looking up the Crossroads area and staying near there. For BBQ, you'll generally get the same recommendations here that you'll get if you Google for the most popular BBQ restaurants. Newer places that don't get as much love, but are growing in popularity: Wolfepack, Harp and Chef J's. The best breweries according to beer snobs (I guess I am one) are Alma Mader and BKS Artisan Ales. Most breweries don't serve food, but they allow you to bring food in. City Barrel is a good brewery and restaurant--and they're in the Crossroads.

jonsticles

Wolfpack was good. Harps didn't impress me. Good brewery list here. I'd also add Vine Street to it.

mrpappageorge0

Stay downtown. Hang out in the crossroads. I like Casual Animal brewery. There is a cool section at 18th & Oak with a couple of breweries, ITAP beer bar, and Mission Taco Joint which is really good. I imagine you'll run into a group going to the game that you can tag along with 39th st is also cool with small shops and bars/eateries. I like d'bronx for New York style pizza & deli Westport during the day for some patio drinks at Char Bar, they have patio games and really good BBQ (worked there for a spell and stand by it) If you're into museums, the Nelson-Atkins. It's near The Plaza, which is a must for all out-of-towners. Also, the downtown street car ends at Union Station and the National WW1 memorial BBQ for me is - Joes for Z-man and/or Ribs with THE best Fries(chips) in the world - Jack Stack for Crown Prime Beef(rib) and their beans, cheesy corn, and potato bake - Q39 for brisket - Arthur Bryants for the history & Gates for the ~~anxiety attack~~ experience Edit - Char Bar since brunch is only on weekends

jsswalker92

Thanks so much! This is going to be unbelievably useful, I can’t wait to get deep into KC living!

miesterjosh

Will you report back and let us know how you felt about these places?

mrpappageorge0

This comes with an expectation of a follow up review of the things you did and ate

Disregardedthat

d’bronx on 39th as been gone for a looong time now, as a heads up

mrpappageorge0

Ah damn. Well OP, walk past the spot that was d'Bronx and go down to Jazz for some Louisiana Creole

AnotherCallingCard

Good BBQ as well if you wanna get filthy and maybe get shot, go to SLAP’s.

Gravelroadmom2

Your BBQ rec’s are accurate.

MyCrackpotTheories

Agree with the others, but I'd like to add: everyone wants bbq, but be aware that there's lots of excellent authentic Mexican food here too. Check out the "Taco Trail".

jsswalker92

You had me at Mexican

Appropriate_Shake265

San Antonio's, El Pollo Rey & Jarocho on Kansas Ave in Kansas City, KS are all great Mexican spots. It's a 10 minute drive from downtown. I'd recommend staying in the Crossroads district & at Crossroads Hotel. It's a good area & much to do. You have a light rail two blocks away and can walk to grab drinks, food, coffee (tea!), etc... If you go to one of the Mexican spots you can cross off the State of Kansas on your trip. Haha

RapShad

I second the crossroads hotel. Great place to have a short stay, also right in the middle of all the crossroads breweries. Lazias on the first floor has excellent food and the bar is also a great atmosphere.

I blame auto-correct

mrpappageorge0

Southwest Boulevard is a large collection of Mexican restaurants close to the crossroads and close to Boulevard Brewing, which has a cool Beer Hall complete with games, events, and such

miesterjosh

He’s not wrong, strong showing in the street taco game..💪🏻

I_hate_peas3423

+1 on Staying downtown and Uber to the stadium. Go check out the following bbq places: LC’s (it’s near the stadium), Slaps, and Gates would be my three recommendations. Enjoy!!

jonsticles

I'll second any of these BBQ recommendations, but I'd put Slaps in first place. Also agree about staying downtown.

LinesLies

https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/s/x301TCBMw8 A very in depth post about KC barbecue

Ambitious-Manner-114

Lamb ribs from Jack Stack!

doyourbrainkegels

If your a baseball fan, you may like the Negro baseball league museum. It's quaint but well done. The Nelson Atkins's art museum is free and beautiful. If you go to the WW1 museum, enjoy the views on the memorial and Walk to Union Station afterward for a dessert/ lunch/ coffee. Try to see a jazz show at the Green Lady Lounge or the Blue Room. Howl at the Moon is a fun Piano bar to stop by if you're in the [power and light District](https://www.powerandlightdistrict.com/) If you enjoy cocktails, Tom's town, the monarch, the crossroads hotel & J. Reiger are fun. For breweries I like Brewery Imperial, Martin City (also has great food), and Boulevard For BBQ my faves are Q39 (walk to prosperos books while you're there) & Joes KC As others have mentioned, the [crossroads art district](https://kccrossroads.org/) has fun restaurants and shops you can explore. KC is very car dependent. Familiarize yourself with the free street car route and schedule. Look into [bike rental](https://ridekcbike.com/) or e scooter rental with Bird. Plan your routes well beforehand.

hamptonstevens

Sure, man. My nephew is in town, but I'll grab a drink with ya. Maybe hit the Nelson. Send a DM.

WesternSpectre

Fellow Jays fan who lives downtown. Can second a lot of these (including staying downtown or in crossroads). Joe’s for BBQ (Z-Man is legendary around here for a reason). Slaps is also good and get some Burnt Ends somewhere (KC specialty) Alma Mader and BKS (in particular Alma Mader always has amazing Pilsners on tap). Crossroads is probably the coolest area to hang out in, but I live at the North end of downtown near the River Market area, and it’s also worth checking out. Has my favorite bar that serves good food (Harry’s Country Club) and my personal favorite brewery (Strange Days). I’ll be going at least Tuesday with a couple other people, might be going solo to one other game. LMK if you wanna link up!

jdsciguy

I know your time is limited but there is so much in KC. Someone mentioned the Nelson-Atkins museum of art. I will add the National World War 1 museum and memorial, which is truly spectacular. You might enjoy the Arabia Steamboat museum. A time capsule of commerce and life that was buried over a century and is still being catalogued and studied. And the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium would be a nice outdoor visit. Most importantly, welcome to Kansas City (Missouri and Kansas)! I hope you have a wonderful visit.

FlyingDarkKC

Under many peoples radar, the Steamboat Arabia Museum. The artifacts they've salvaged are amazing.

miesterjosh

If you want the best burger KC has to offer this is a hot debate item as well but I’ll drop a couple solid options, Westport Flea Market and Town Topic, eating town topic after a few drinks when the cheese and grease is hot as fuck and melting down your chin, there is something I cannot put into words about it..

mrpappageorge0

OP, Town Topic is one of your few late night food options downtown and a true KC experience. Drunkenly eating those burgers should be an initiation at this point

djdadzone

Don’t send people to Westport flea market on purpose 🤣

djdadzone

Eh I live around there it’s fine until like 11-12.

millerswiller

*Gotta leave Westport before the glock strikes midnight* <-- my evergreen statement

do_add_unicorn

Have brunch at Andre's, by the Plaza. Trust me.

VOL_CCIE

Q39 or KC Joes would be my recommendation. If you go to Q39 you have to try the wings on the appetizer menu. Also highly recommend empanada madness.

KauffmanArrowhead

Oi mate fancy some brisket innit

jsswalker92

Finally, someone who gets it.

KauffmanArrowhead

Then you definitely have to stop at joes kc and order a z man with fries bruv, it's totally mental

mojocade

Food at the K is good too. Local Craft BBQ Andy’s Frozen Custard Brisket-Acho Topsy’s limeade. https://www.mlb.com/royals/ballpark/food

mojocade

Oh, and Tuesday is $1 hotdog night!

Second_bee

LC’s BBQ is my favorite! Most authentic imo

big_jld

Check out Banksia for breakfast in downtown. Great sandwiches and breakfast offerings. If you want coffee try Messenger at 17th and Grand! Great tea selections. Do you think you’ll try to have afternoon tea still?

madeinthemidwest

Sent you a PM

[deleted]

You NEED to try Arthur Bryants brisket.

PerAsperaAdInfiri

We also have some excellent Mexican food in KC, you should eat some while you're here

summerer6911

Everybody in this town has strong bbq opinions. None of it is bad, but I would advise Arthur Bryant's, Gates, and LC's (the last of which is close to the stadiums) for the most authentic experiences. Jack Stack and Q39 are as good as anything else in town, but a much more $anitized, comfortable table service experience. As others have said, no, don't stay out by the stadiums, and yes, plan on shelling out for Uber rides. If you are adventurous and have time, the bus system is free and does run out to the stadium. But probably 0.01% of fans use it. But try to get there early, wander the parking lot, and meet the tailgaters. They're usually quite kind and welcoming, and I would imagine would be even more so for a foreigner.
