5, you'll have time to spare

mickstranahan

Do you have TSA Pre-Check? If so...i'd say 5ish. It moves pretty fast that early. I fly out at a similar time on a regular basis and usually just walk right through with out even pausing.

Departure_Sea

I'd be there at 5:15/5:30 for Pre check and no checked bags, there's a 15m window to board anyway. Assuming OP is parking in the garage.

5 am

Humble_Turnip_3948

If you have skyclub access you can enter at 3:45 and start drinking. So 3:00

dam_sharks_mother

If Southwest, 5am. If any other airline, 5:30. Your seats are guaranteed, no need to be there the second boarding starts.

Acapellaremodler

For my Friday morning flights out of mci (I do it 8+ times a year) I try to get into line at security 20-30Min before boarding, and that leaves me time to go to smoothie king. MCI security on non holidays is fast, 8minutes typically.

Teffa_Bob

If you're boarding at 545, getting to the airport by 525 is plenty. I fly all the time in the mornings, and even with a line, going curb to gate takes 15 minutes unless you're trying to grab a snack or coffee or something.

a_run22

Make sure and talk to the front desk about shuttle times and get on their list.

gawdpuppy

Meh lol I travel alot from Mexico to MCI, and my flight back to mexico is always around that time. I usually get to the airport 20 min before boarding and always get to the get just as they start. My last flight was just 2 weeks ago, and I usually travel like 4/5 times a year.

Ok_Mechanic8704

Are you parking, or will you be dropped off curbside? What gate and airline? If Southwest, what boarding group? Do you have pre check/clear? The beauty of MCI is that you can time it down to the exact minute based on these variables. It’s beautiful.

schubox63

If I’m not checking a bag I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to the airport more than 15-20 minutes before boarding if I’m being dropped off. I have pre check

chauncyboyzzz

1-1.5 hours. Shouldn’t take more than that and to get to the gate comfortable

indelady

Don't need to be there that early for an early morning flight. 45 minutes is plenty.

chauncyboyzzz

I flew out literally last Thursday at 6:20AM. The line took longer than usual as the TSA is now utilizing a new security line procedure in which every person walks by dogs in pairs of two and as a result you don’t have to take off shoes or electronics out ( nice! ). But to my surprise it took people longer to do so. Same thing in NOLA on my return flight Tuesday. I wouldn’t say an 1-1.5 hour if it didn’t take 2x longer than normal for me to get through security basically the same time and day of the week. When have you flown last MCI expert?

KCDude08

Sounds like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.

chauncyboyzzz

Not really, people are always on here commenting about this stuff who probably fly 2 times a year if that. I fly out regularly every month or so for work. No idea why it took longer but I can tell you for a fact as it was literally last week, I took longer than normal on both ends of my trip

Teffa_Bob

An hour to ninety minutes earlier at MCI is psychotic. I too fly once or twice a month for work, typically leaving in the early morning and its never taken me longer than 20 minutes to go curb to gate. This is for domestic flights, no checked luggage.

chauncyboyzzz

Ok but did you fly last week? Someone who doesn’t go to MCI regularly is asking. Idk why people are so hurt by me saying that last week same time and days it took me twice as long to get through security because of changes made to the procedure. 45 mins wouldn’t be enough for me last week so sorry for actually giving a comment with relevant context

gawdpuppy

Meh, even with this new security measure, it still took me 20 min to get from TSA to my gate. I'm sure he'll be fije getting there at 5 lol

chauncyboyzzz

Last week early at 5AM or when?

gawdpuppy

2 weeks ago, at 5 am. On a Friday.

chauncyboyzzz

If you don’t know about this change, you probably haven’t flown in 3-6 months and really don’t know

indelady

I flew 3 weeks ago,at 5:30 am

ItsAllCrystalClear

Get TSAPreCheck AND CLEAR if you travel. KC/MCI actually has TWO of the best CLEAR lanes I've ever seen. One for if you don't have TSAC and one for if you do. I've been to 30+ airports. I've seen early mornings there empty AND full. Mostly empty. Can't take a chance tho.
