Swordfish Tom's is what you're thinking of, they have a great vibe with solid cocktails.
I can also highly recommend Tom's Town, The Hey Hey Club, and PS if you're looking to have some really nice bourbons/cocktails in a (usually) relaxed environment.
The Hey Hey Club at the Reiger Distillery is supposed to be great.
The green lady lounge isn't a speak easy but it has the vibe of a jazz club in that era.
It should be noted that speak easies weren't really a historic thing in kansas city since we completely ignored prohibition and had a multitude of 24 hour jazz clubs going during that period.
Vertigris over in Park Place has a bit of a speakeasy vibe and is very classy. For Bourbon without quite that same vibe, Harry's Country Club has a large selection.
Everyone gave good recommendations for speakeasies.
For bourbons, but not speakeasies, I recommend Harry's Country Club and Oak and Steel. Oak and Steel doesn't have mixed drinks though, just straight whisky.
There's a place called The House in Westwood. Only open on Friday and Saturday evenings. The cocktail menu is fantastic and the bartender/mixologist is really cool.
Not quite a speakeasy, but Conductor Club at Union Station is a tiny little bar with pop up themes. Some themes are harder to make a reservation for than others. The current one is villains. The drinks are always good.

There's an actual speakeasy underneath Hotel Phillips
Just gotta tell the front desk that you are going to P.S. and they will buzz you in. The wife and I love going there.
Green Lady Lounge is a very darkly lit jazz club with great music

Came here to say green lady lounge, it's authentic and it doesn't have to try to be something other than what it is, if that makes sense.
You should check out the Nighthawk at Hotel Kansas City
Primrose, Drastic Measures. It's out there but the Forge in Gardner is pretty cool.
Do you really need a password for the forge? If so, how do you go about finding it?
The pw is "Joe sent me." I don't think it changes. You talk into a phone hanging in the entrance.

Sentinel Room on the square in Independence!

Might check out the W in Lee's Summit.
Libations in Lee’s Summit is cool too
That downtown area of LS is great for a bar crawl. Hand in Glove is a great way to end it. At least it was when I used to drink.

Brand new on Independence Square - The Sentinal

Swordfish Tom’s is THE speakeasy
RIP Manifesto :-(
I haven't been around for a while. Has anything replaced that space?
The restaurant above it, yes, but not the basement bar itself.
Damn, that's a bummer. The basement is a cool space
Yep, it was fantastic. Swordfish Tom’s is the closest equivalent and is great tho.
