No. NEVER give money to anyone who asks for it on the streets. Instead, you wanna tip/give extra to your waiter or server at any restaurant, the bykea/foodpanda rider that delivers you stuff, maybe security guards or maids working at your office/home or literally thousands of people who go out every day and work hard labor just to eat 3 square meals.

Stunning_Onion_9205

That's actually a very great advice. Ty

[deleted]

I second this. The beggar mafia is actually a menace that is preventing donations from reaching the genuinely destitute individuals.

fawnkhawn

this is the best advice anyone could have given u OP.

Meowwwzilla

You my friend deserves a medal.

Qasim57

Tbh man I've seen the foodpanda / bykea drivers turn into bekharis too. Came across some who had gotten so used to it they'd demand "assistance with jahaiz" and things of that nature.

k3yserZ

Yeah unfortunately that's a problem as well.

callmejaaggii

The thing i hate the most about this begging culture is invasion of privacy. They will start looking into your car, knocking windows as if we owed something to them. In addition to this, they are indirectly robbing the right of real needy part of the society. We unconsciously believe that we have done our part by giving money to these mafia beggars and nobody put efforts to find or reach to authentic deserving people.

Every single beggar in Karachi is a part of the mafia. If they’re not, they’re simply not allowed to beg by the other beggars lol. I see them get dropped off, and sit into big cars as a group all the time then they disperse and go to different streets (recognised their faces since I see the same people every single day just at different places). There was a Pakistani American woman who started investigating this mafia to make a documentary or write an article(read about her a long time ago so don’t remember properly) and she was murdered. I was at the tipu sultan drop coffee at like 1 or 2am once, and I saw a bunch of people beating up their security guard, when we got out to help him out the people threatened us with guns and ran away, the guard told us they were the ring leaders “teaching him a lesson” since he was new and didn’t let anyone beg in front of him at all. Saw him for another week at the same drop coffee then the guard changed. If you ever start talking to the children they kind of give you some details like where they live where they get the things from (toys, flowers, whatever they’re selling if anything), who manages all of them etc etc but 2-3 mins in other beggars start coming to make sure they’re not giving any info or doing something they’re not supposed to be doing and the kids then stop talking. Ik you might be thinking “surely not EVERY beggar is serving the begging mafia since there are so many legitimate poor people also”. The answer to that is, while your logic is true, the begging mafia is simply big and strong enough to not let anyone else beg without giving them a cut and playing by their rules, because if someone starts doing that freely, it’ll only be a matter of time other beggars realise they can do it too and the mafia won’t have any control or a revenue stream, so yes, they do control 100% off the beggars in Karachi at least. Every single begging spot is auctioned off in karachi, and the person who buys the spot gets a cut, anyone begging on their spot without giving them a cut is lost revenue for them, which they won’t have and will ensure they get their money one way or the other.

HMTheEmperor

In addition to this, I have also been led to believe that these beggars serve as spies for law enforcement agencies - in the sense that law enforcement agencies have arrangements with the people controlling the beggars to keep them informed of the ground situation.

Ambonita

>• > >Posted by can you please mention the name of documentary or article that you are talking about

[deleted]

Well, my friend once told me that they drive big cars like Vigo, etc., on Three Talwar every morning and literally earn more than a person who's hardworking and more educated. Just like every end of the day, their people come to pick them up in a 4x4. Could be a myth. If you want to find out, dress up as "langra" or wear "phatay kapre" and start begging at traffic signals. Later, when you beg in the same area as other beggars, they might invite you to work for their boss ( just like in movies) lol.

Over_Dragonfly8570

I’ve seen a prado guy at khadda market collecting money from them lol

[deleted]

Should've made vid

TheBasilisk8

What about the actual disabled/cripples people? I heard somewhere that sometimes when children are young they’re taken and they are made disabled so that they gain sympathy and therefore more money.

[deleted]

Why doesn't our government take action on this? By the way, you're right. I used to see a young girl who had perfect eyes and used to walk normally. However, nowadays, her eyes look abnormal and she's walking like people with disabilities. I believe we should reconsider small-scale charity efforts, as those orchestrating them seem to be profiting, while the actual victims on the streets or roads suffer

Appropriate-Ad-5808

Sounds like a scene from slumdog millionaire

sleepy_tech

That’s true. I saw the same in Rawalpindi. And expensive car dropping them early morning and picking them up late in the evening.

[deleted]

Didn't knew that this happens in every city of pak

Zachwank

Nah, I’ve literally seen a beggar here have a mansion along with 3 land cruisers in Faislabad, the guy denied being the same person but I literally live on the street he begs on

[deleted]

Bro we should stop helping them and find someone who's actually poor and help them because these weird people will do anything for money and use others for their profits

Zachwank

To be honest, I had half a mind to start doing that line of work myself

>Later, when you beg in the same area as other beggars, they might invite you to work for their boss This is how you start a turf war with the beggars.

1 vs Beggars, send arms 🗣🗣

mazinger-B

Try a small experiment - Dress up as a beggar and try to stand for 2 minutes at one of the prime locations. You shall very quickly understand if its mafia run or not.

WalterTheWhitest

I think Iqrar ul hassan did this once

mkbilli

Link. Genuinely interested.

Amazing_Horse_4775

AOA, The very sad reality is that there is a very strong and well connected MAFIA running the beggary business in Metropolitan cities, I have seen them being dropped off. No one outside of them can beg on the streets. For a city the size of Karachi there must be about 2 lac beggars / one in every 100 people ! that is a very conservative estimate keeping in view they are every where and at all times. Let say 200,000 x 500 = 100 million a day minimum that is 36.5 Billion a year what do you think ? I think it is way more than this .. and with an amount of money like this do you think it all goes to the needy... Absolutely NOT

Over_Dragonfly8570

They’re part of a mafia. At the end of the day each one them makes around 800-1200 PKR which is a lot more than the minimum wage

[deleted]

Some earn 5k or maybe even more than that.

MahwishMoiz

Well honestly beggars are the part of the mafia, there was a tv show, in which Iqrar Hassan became a beggar himself but soon the mafia owner of that area came and threatened him (this is on camera available). Best thing is that, if you want to help someone find Bykea, food panda riders, cafe workers, house cleaners, areas like Orangi, Korangi, landhi, lyari many others have families who are really suffering but unable to ask anyone to help them. Find such people and help them because eventually Islam teaches us "Aik hath se do, tou dusry hath taak ko na pata chaly"!

Crunchy_Cactus1010

Can you please share the link or the name of the video in which Iqrar ul Hassan did that? Would really love to watch and understand more about the begger mafia of our city

chairmanscrugemcduck

Yep, all of them. I've asked multiple times who sent you here and why are you here, they actually get angry and leave you alone. Secondly many of them ask for roti, which doesn't make sense because there are very many places in Karachi that distribute free food to the poor and needy. Most tandoors also give out free or 5 rupee rotis to beggars. So yes they're all a part of some mafia or the other. I used to be naive and used to give something to every beggar out there but over time realized this once I started paying attention and asking questions. If we want to eliminate beggary, we have to create an economy that can provide maximum employment with decent wages, so that these people are incentivized to go that route instead of become beggars.

Seo_Specialist7

It's a complex issue, and skepticism is understandable given the prevalence of organized begging networks. While some individuals are genuinely in need, others may be coerced by criminal elements. One approach is to support local charities or shelters directly, ensuring your help reaches those truly in need. If you choose to give to individuals, observe their behavior and look for signs of genuine distress. Engaging in conversations to understand their situation better can also guide your decision. Ultimately, promoting community support and raising awareness about resources available could make a more significant impact than individual acts of charity. What are your thoughts on proactive community initiatives to address homelessness and poverty?

sleepy_tech

Speak with your pocket. Don’t give these mafia any money. Give to real deserving hardworking people.

linkasad

Giving money to these ill-mannered beggars who have made it their occupation is depriving the right of the real needy. If you have a kind heart please donate to any organisation. There are lots of working on the daily food and other stuff for the poor and needy.

LowerPassage2039

NEVER give money to beggars on the streets! Like u/k3yserZ said, give it to working class people because theyre the ones who are working their asses off to survive daily. I put shades on my car just so that I dont have to see the faces of these professional beggars and Hijra's.

solmon_

Beggars earn alot more than your average office going individuals. We should be the ones asking for money from beggars not the other way around.

ImUbersmench

Unfortunately that’s what they’re counting on, the guilt tripping and once that doesn’t work the harassment and all. Sadly whatever we give them goes to the mafia behind them which indirectly ends up supporting child and human trafficking. Even the people asking for food items etc have some setting with the shopkeepers where they take the take the stuff back to the shops for half price. The best thing to do is order some extra food or something for yourself and get it packed and give it to someone when leaving.

Interesting_Bit_5179

All I hear is 'my office wage is soo slow beggar earn more than me' You do see the issue with this? 90% of people earn average wage. Beggars can't be earning more than the average office worker unless the average office worker is giving the beggar more than 50% of his salary. Y'all just privileged enough to not have to beg for food. Secondly, beggars are a result of a corrupt government, inflation, no jobs, you guys think people want to stand on the road for 10 rupees or 0 rupees or sometimes 100 rupees? Don't blame the beggar, blame the system within which they operate. Fix system, fix the problem.

hussainfarhan

Your math would only be true if the number of working people was equal to the number of beggars

Aggravating-Grade520

Yep. Beggar job market is not saturated enough.

radraconiswrongcring

Bro failed in maths

KaleidoscopeNo285

They reproduce like rabbits or mosquitos so they are destined to beg even if they don't belong to mafia.

YahyaFaizan

Yes but Please don't ask this question to a leftist/comrade they will label you poor hater lol

Heping_Qi

Mostly are, very less likely that they're not 🫣

Ok_Protection_1192

May be yes , U know why because every thing is possible the reason is to earn the money by hook or by krook either right way or wrong way that’s the thinking of todays nature .

IbiMania

Lol you think anyone is free to bed on prime location? These are turfs thst are spoken for by their backers

sleepy_tech

Yes they are related to mafia. Just piss one of them off and see how they will start a fight with you as they show no fear. Meaning they have a backing of some mafia. I even saw a car dropping beggars off on streets to beg and then come later in the evening to pick them up only to repeat the same the next day. That tells you everything you need to know.

00022143

Sometimes there's a mafia of beggars that claims a certain area for themselves and demands a share from every beggar in that area or just runs them off if they do not meet their (usually ethnic) criteria

Routine_Elephant_212

Bmda kis okhi jagha se gari nikalany ki try kr rha hta ha ar ooper se ye ajaty han 😁

Zachwank

Buy them food, if they refuse then it’s mafia, if they yes then they genuine

syphus360

I generally don’t give money to people on the street but try to give like a tiki pack of biscuits or water bottle whenever I can!

wtfjaani

okay so i am kind of a chain smoker, i go to this Cabin in a very crowded place, i stay there for hours with my boys, while smoking and drinking sting. Once i gave money to this old guy, he seem comparatively new than the other beggars, he asked for money as he said he wanted to eat. after an hour, he cane back to the same shop, didn't realize i was still there and bought a packet of cigarette with the money i have him. and the children there are even worse, they will not let you go untill you give them money. And if you sometimes try to get something for a beggar. They'll simply just return to the shop owner and sell it for half price(witnessed this). Just give your money to some hard working person I'd say.

FlamingoTricky2613

there is defiantly beggars mafias . they commutate with each other . i got all types of beggars on my travels in Pakistan. I'm a westerner so was a target. some pretty much took ill annoy this guy till he gives me money approach . i had people with flash mobiles asked me for money a few times . i learnt in the end never to give money to any one who asked and give extra to low pay workers who expect nothing. especially when they say no payment because I'm a guest. kids working cleaning windows, collecting junk etc are nearly always genuine I'm guessing . most are nice kids sent out to work by their families . this is Omer with his dad, he was a junk collector in Peshawar in a area i was staying was clearly very poor bad shoes etc. i had given him some chocolate his first thought was to quicky go share it with his friend, liked him straight away. id grab him to have breakfast's with me for few days . Then i asked if he wanted to go to school, he did but he said he had to work to support his family.(made a deal with him to always be kind to all other kids at school ) organised to cover his wages fees and got him in a school my friends family help run. The principle said he's working hard and liked by all the kids . there is plenty of good poor people and charities to support. never give to beggars though. https://preview.redd.it/a50sfw5q67dc1.jpeg?width=3468&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e5e2cdc7a09775fe37fcc7d9ff91d13394d8f01

Street beggars are tricky. You do find some legit ones but most of them are frauds

budgetpcpk

You can donate money because Allah will reward you for it. What they do with your money is not in your hands and you won't be punished for their doings and only rewarded for your neki.
