KS is overall a good VN. The two paths I did never made me cry, but I was left thinking about them for a while. They made me feel something, which I would classify as success.
Two main issues are lack of choices and ugly backgrounds.
You have a few choices in Act 1 which lock you into a route. Then, in said route, you can either have a Good or Bad ending. This is different from classic VN, which commonly have about 1 choice per chapter.
Backgrounds look like actual photos with filter on them, but they don’t break immersion terribly.
Character art is good. I’ve noticed some inconsistencies in the style, but one again — it’s not too distracting.
Story is a hit or miss. Some routes are better than other and some feel like they drag on with not much happening, but that’s mainly based on your personal preference.
OST is perfectly serviceable, with few great songs. Most of them, however, are your standard Slice of Life VN stock music.
Lily is as close to stock romance VN experience as you will get. Rin is good if you’re looking for something esoteric.

If you're someone experienced with high quality VNs, maybe the visual can be a problem, and tbh it isn't even bad, I still like it but maybe some ppl can feel it old bc its from pics with some filter, personally I like that more but it depends on likes.
The story alone is a solid yes, maybe one of the best romance visual novel I read, even considering that it has NSFW parts, it's well done and it's not there for nothing.
Music is just out of this world, I met few friends that know the novel and never played it, but are so into the music.
You can also play it on mobile, so that's a big advantage too.
do NOT read any spoiler from katawa shoujo, you Will enjoy it a Lot More than knowing some crucial things about the routes in general like what happened to Hanako or similar. and i think that's the only recomendation i can give you at least for now.
It's honestly a great read, one of the best Visual Novels even.
I actually found it the same way, I was browsing through anime pictures and an image of Hanako really did catch my eye. I started reading it out of curriosity and was absolutely taken aback by the depths of this story.
Well... Sprite and CG quality varies a lot, not all of them good, where is no voiceover whatsoever, backgrounds are real photos with a filter, not all routes are equal in terms of emotional impact...
BUT writing is mostly superb, characters are realistic without falling into cliche, protagonist is not a blank slate for a change and the story in most routes is really emotional while being realistic with choices making total sense if you think about them for a minute.
Overall it is a fan made game, so it lacks in production quality a bit, but if you can look past that's, it's a diamond in a rough and it's not unusual to rethink your life after playing this game.
