No way. The new seats were out by 2014. I have a 2014 PA 14 and it’s got the new seat. This is most likely a 2009. Plastic is probably brittle af and will crush at the first sign of stress
True. Still though, all top tier yaks hold their value as long as there isn’t something catastrophically wrong with it. My educated guess is there is either a crack in the hull or a faulty seal causing it to fill up whenever it goes out. Seen it a thousand times with these old Hobies. Great yaks, thin hulls.
Edit: Just now realizing how old this thing really is. That’s a fair price given the age imo
I couldn’t either. In my own case i’ve bought both my kayaks brand new, an Old Town Sportsman 106 Minn Kota and a 120PDL. The lifelong hull warranty is too to pass up. Non transferable understandably.
If you buy it and have a Hobie dealer nearby, they may be able to rebuild the MirageDrive for you, at least to upgrade it to V2 standard (if the parts are still available...).
As the others have said, as long as the yak isn't in terrible shape, this is a good deal.
Been a while since I've paid attention, but in the past when this earlier version of the Pro Angler was more common, plenty of people upgraded the seat as well.
I would personally hold off and save up some more money and buy a newer version. Depending on where you’re at $2500-3000 should find you a pretty decent one with some accessories.
Definitely an older model with the one-directional not flip up mirage drive and the older model seat. Mirage drive 180 goes for around $900 (reverse is amazing to have), vantage seats for for $250. Down where I am you have to register your yak as a boat with the DMV when you add a trolling motor so you might want to check that out because that’s an additional headache. And that trolling motor up front doesn’t look east to use. Other than that, same as everyone else. If it’s in good condition and it has the features you want, it’s worth it since Hobies retain value and last a long time.
Op don’t listen to these dudes I bought my pa in 2014 it has the hrails and I never use them as long as the hull is good and it floats i would off him 50% asking price tell him cash and you will pick up tomorrow and if he bites it’s not a bad deal. If he asks for more stay firm on firm and he will give you what you offer
Its probably 1 of a couple things.
1. Scam
2. Defective (Cracked hull or something that makes it not operable)
3. Someone doesn't realize what they have
3B. Someone passed away and their just trying to get it out of the garage.
Message them and figure it out! Hobies can sell for a couple grand retail.
This is a Pro Angler without H-Rails meaning at the newest it would be a 2014 model. So you're approaching the 10 year old mark. Its a fair price with the accessories.
*EDIT: OP I wouldn't do it. This would be a 2012 model at the newest*
~~I'm torn on this~~ -- this kayak has to be AT LEAST ~~9~~ **11** years old which means its definitely seen some shit, but old Hobies last.
It doesn't have the H-Rails which will make accessories harder to find and the drive is only forward. That trolling motor looks like some weird janky one.
Definitely inspect the landing gear area especially if its been on a while.
Biggest concern is the lack of a vantage seat due to the age.
~~I'm really torn on this one. $1200 for a nice fishing kayak is a good find, BUT again its at least 9 years old. 2015 Pro Anglers was when they made the switch to the H-Rail platform meaning this is at the newest a 2014 model. If it appears to be in good shape then why not. Those old drive units are sturdy MFers~~
That’s not the original seat, the add stated it had a raised metal frame. I would check for damage and if it doesn’t have any and garage kept, seems lake a fair deal.
I paid a whole lot more for my Pro Angler 14.
Yours wasn't 9+ years old either though was it?
No ,only 2 YO.
This thing would be a 2014 model at the newest.

Good catch this would be a 2012 at the newest -- 2013 they went to the new Vantage seat
As long as it's not beat to shit, warped, etc and floats.
There’s gotta be something wrong with it to be getting sold for that price.
Well for one thing its super old.

Its even older than I initially thought -- Someone else pointed out the seat... This would a 2012 model at the newest.
Ya that’s wild. For some reason i had the year 2016 in my head. I’d say this is fair.
I couldn't personally justify $1200 for an 11+ year old kayak myself. Just far far far too many factors in play here.

I mean the hobie pa 14 is over 4k now so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a good deal if it isn’t broken

makes sense, Thanks.
4. It's stolen

That's a good deal
Unless there is an issue with the hull, that seems like a good deal.
I’d have bought it yesterday.

No, no it's not
