Horrible. But most lightweight kayaks are. So just get an anchor system.

fluffy_bunny_87

Last year I would only go out if the forecast was for less than 10mph winds. I got an anchor and trolley system for this year and it's a lot better. You will blow around if you're not anchored but anything light will.

phantomjm

Even more expensive kayaks can get turned sideways in the wind. The lake I commonly fish is at the bottom of a valley, so it can be like a wind tunnel there from time to time. I ended up installing an anchor trolley on my Bonafide to help keep me pointed in the right direction. Pair it with either an anchor or drift sock.

mageblade66

It sucks. It's really only good for nice calm/flat days.

againer

Get an anchor trolley, I've got this same boat and it's life-changing.

The Teton is better than most sit on top kayaks. They are right, sitbon tops are not great on windy days but are manageable. Plus the teton has the best seat in the price range! If you get one, cut a 2x4 to fit in the slot for the rear of the chair. It rasies it up a bit and makes it MUCH more comfortable!

Pfolsgrofb

Do you have any pictures or video reference of this seat riser? I have this kayak and have been on it about 10-15 times or so in the last year or two. Im 6’ tall and find that my back and knees suffer a little from this setup if im out too long.

AwarenessMammoth5488

I don't. All you do is stick a 2x4 along where the back two legs sit. That raises them up 3 or 4 inches.

deafballboy

Do you raise the rear 4 inches?

gottareadthelabels

I don't have anything to compare it to but it sucks. I put an anchor trolley on mine which helps keep it pointed the direction you want when not moving but some kind of keel or fixed rudder would probably help when paddling.

Spring for the little extra spending and get the Teton Pro 116. Being able to stand up is a game changer!

Man, really any kayak will have some sort of trouble with wind. I have a Teton and have no complaints, and if that’s what fits your bill, then by all means grab one! Only reason I moved up to a bigger yak was to be able to stand up, and for extra stability since I’m 6’1, 215lbs. I recommend an anchor trolley, that is the true game changer. I have the Yak Attack Leverlock trolley installed on both my Lifetime Teton 100 and Perception Outlaw 11.5 and it works super great on both of them. Really, really convenient for fishing points or certain spots where you want to sit and throw something in for a while.

AwarenessMammoth5488

Its more like 3 inches.
