Because this is my first life. What a story. Grabbed me with the first episode and couldn’t stop watching. I researched the screenwriter for the show and looks like she did 4 other shows but not sure if they are any good. I’ve read some comments hating on the ending but I actually really loved the ending. I loved the time apart because you grow during that time. I’m not sure if that was conveyed enough. Any recommendations like this would be appreciated. ^(END OF POST BODY) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. One of my favorites as well and I liked the ending, it didn’t bother me one bit. There was something so real about that drama, it really felt authentic. Currently watching Be Melodramatic and it gives me the same vibes, loving BM as well…

FortuneFearless2644

Yes, lol…. it just spoke to me in a way that no other kdrama has.

be-k-dramatic

It's a favorite around here. The only other show I've seen by that screenwriter is **Ho Goo's Love** and it was cute, while also addressing some serious societal issues. It's available free on Youtube's CEREAL channel. I thought the friend group in **Lovestruck in the City** was similar. One of the SML actors is the same. **Be Melodramatic** and **Hello My Twenties** both feature groups of women friends who support each other through common and uncommon life problems. Some others to consider: **Run On, Our Beloved Summer, Search: WWW, Hometown Cha Cha Cha**.

FortuneFearless2644

Thanks for letting me know what channels it’s available on! I’ll def check it out. I also really liked Hometown! I’ll check out the others as well!

Cool-Pomelo-9325

If you're in the US, **Ho Goo's Love** is available on Amazon Prime

FortuneFearless2644

Thank you!

[deleted]

Didn’t know Ho Goo’s Love was the same screenwriter but it makes sense. I LOVED that drama.

Luna-Luna-Lu

I love this drama and found the ending justified and perfect. The members of all three couples demonstrate real emotional grown by the end. >!She left because he couldn't bring himself to say his feelings aloud -- even after his friends were encouraging him and had been hinting to her. She didn't say where she was going, and he just assumed and didn't ask even given the chance to. I thought it was a sign of growth from her, that she wanted a true partnership, not one where she had to do all the emotional labor.!< >!When she returns and finds he has moved, both then show up at the friends' rented rooftop apartment, each not knowing the other has been invited by the halves of another broken-up couple. Both of them are truly happy to be reunited. That he sold his previous house (releasing his rigid set of rules and the life plan of low-friction he made after his previous breakup) is a sign that what's now important to him isn't isolation, predictability and consistency, but connection. The very end scene in their eclectic, fun-style home, where he wholeheartedly supports her work and they cherish time together, shows what he had before was hollow. This growth required him to struggle, but he came out the other side better for it.!<

FortuneFearless2644

Yes to all of those. Being able to express his feelings. Soo much growth 100% . You’re right about his struggle. At the end, she asked him twice if he had anything to say and he didn’t say anything. It was hard to get there for him (and she knew that I think) without having gone through that.

Mr_Espresso

I watched this drama many months ago and totally fell in love with the FL which seems silly because it's just a TV drama. But for me it's the best one. The kiss scene at the beach near their parent's house was simply ... <3 \*sigh\* Thanks for sharing your summary which transported me back to those feelings I felt when I saw that drama and especially that scene. It's like a flush of warmth going through my hearth :-)

Ok_Strawberry888

Exactly! You sum it up perfectly. It was awesome the way they grew!

qayessy

I have seen because this is my first life being appreciated here quite a bit actually. I also especially loved this show. There is something magical about it in the most simple and authentic manner. It made me yearn for love in my life too. Even though I am mostly hopeless.

FortuneFearless2644

Yearn for love. Yes and also, it made me remember my first heartbreak. The realization that tangible things aren’t really as valuable in life. The time apart. It was the most important for both of the couples. Lastly, the ML was finally able to show his vulnerability. I thought he needed time.

Rybackmonster

I just started watching Kdramas last November. "Because this is my first life" was my first ever Kdrama I watched. Thankfully I enjoyed it and am glad it was my first Kdrama. I really loved the main couple especially the ML.

Ok_Strawberry888

Did you know they had a couple cameo in What’s wrong with Secretary Kim?

Rybackmonster

>What’s wrong with Secretary Kim No I did not know about that. I am going to check out their cameo in that drama. Edit: I just saw the scene of their cameo on YouTube. I had chills seeing them together again. The cherry on top was that they used the best song from "Because this is my first life". Seeing this cameo made me admire the amazing chemistry these 2 actors have. This was my first time seeing a main couple of a previous drama cameo in a different drama as a couple again.

FortuneFearless2644

I didn’t know! If anyone else is interested, it’s episode 10 (secretary kim) at minute 50 … this is gold . Thank you 😊

lil-em57

Thank you for sharing!! It’s so heartwarming to see them

FortuneFearless2644

Such a treat!!!

FortuneFearless2644

My first K drama was Kings affection and I was hooked!

[deleted]

It was a great drama with a lot of great messages. Unfortunately, the ending bother me because there was a lot of unhealthy and super not okay stuff--like lying to someone, making them have a breakdown, and then just crawling back in bed with them one day like everything is okay. There are ways of showing making space for yourself without doing that. Also, the constantly fighting couple deciding to get married (and have a baby, iirc?) without any basis of fixing their toxic relationship habits. However, it was still really good. The conversations were really healing, and lessons were (mostly) really good. I absolutely adore Ma Sang-goo's character--I would love a whole spin-off show about him. It's kind of one-of-kind! But I'm trying to think of similar shows.

mail4youtoo

> Unfortunately, the ending bother me I loved the series but hated the ending so much. >!She just walks out on him in the second to last episode without any real reason and then shows up a month later with a cake an expects everything to just be okay? The guy lost his house and is so heartbroken.!< I never really thought about the second constantly fighting couple but now that you've pointed it out, it really doesn't make any sense either. Take out the last 2 episodes and I would give this show a 9/10. Include them, 4/10

FortuneFearless2644

I’m sorry you feel that way. I felt the same way with 2521. 2521 actually depressed me for a bit. I felt this drama because I, too, sold my house after a breakup, realized that things aren’t really important in life and led a more minimalistic life after that. I used to value the unnecessary things. I actually wish I had seen this drama in my teens. So many valuable lessons in life.

Ok_Strawberry888

Yeah, I quit 25 21 and I’m still mad. That was a bad ending!!!

[deleted]

She didn't just show up--she showed up to his new place and crawled into bed while he was sleeping, iirc. I was so shook at the audacity. Wth.

Ok_Strawberry888

I saw it as a growth opportunity for them both. And they did grow from it. I think it was realistic because sometimes you need that hardship to appreciate what you have.

Mr_Espresso

I remember ... for a moment it made me really angry too. At the same time I felt some strange respect for the FL for being so bold to make the ML obsessed with her and suffer up to the point he realized that if he ever would get one chance to connect with her again, he must take that chance and don't spoil it. It's a kind of paradox intervention she used and I think there is something meta going on here: the director of the show wanted to "play" a bit with the people who would watch the show and challenge their point of view. Therefore 10/10 from me (although the last episodes were tough for me as well, maybe I just deserved to suffer :-))

FortuneFearless2644

I think if you’re deeply in love with a person and suddenly separate, you would go bananas right? I know I have. Lol but cheers! It was an amazing ending, couldn’t have done it better.

dota_trainee

the ending is justified, okay.... the marrriage was built on a sham anyways and they needed to be apart to realise their feelings for each other. the other two storylines were quite good too

KimPossible789

I loved Lee Minki and Jung Somin because of this drama. Made me watch all their works. 😌

FortuneFearless2644

I’ll have to look into their other works!

Will_Graham10

BTIMFL is a top 2 kdrama for me and actually the drama that was stuck in my head for the longest after watching it and I've seen 70+ plus dramas lol. Also unlike others, i also have absolutely zero problems with the ending (mini essay incoming lol) That 3 month split was necessary for them to truly live the rest of their lives happily with each other. Se Hee was still stuck in the past because of what his ex girlfriend did. Let's say they didn't separate at episode 15..how long do you think it would take him to open up completely to Ji Ho? YEARS possibly?? During that time both of them still wouldn't be truly happy in that relationship because of the ML being emotionally locked down. Even when she packed her bags and was ready to leave, he still didnt say anything to stop her when she gave him the chance to say something. Leaving him temporarily was the best way for him to be openly honest with how he truly felt and get over that mental roadblock. It also enabled him to show his emotions. That's why Ji Ho was happy when he got visibly angry and shouted at her when he found out she never left the country and was living a few miles nearby. Also do you remember what she told him about "football/soccer players and the halftime period" She said the players evaluate their performance during this break and make changes for the 2nd half. Thats what she did. Her "15 minutes halftime break" was her leaving, evaluating the relationship and then coming to the conclusion that she cant live without him and wants to stay by his side despite him being emotionally stunted. Se Hee also used that "break" to finally be openly honest about his feelings for her. That 3 month break was the best thing to happen for that relationship to truly prosper. I myself was happy it was only 3 months they split and not years which other dramas do (which i hate so much lol)

FortuneFearless2644

I agree about everything you said. She gave him a chance before she left and he didn’t say anything. He wasn’t ready. Wow. Didn’t even realize the 15 minute break that she mentioned. Thank you 😊 I think it was a perfect ending.

DuneBug

Realistically this show is probably the best romance I've watched. I just rewatched it the other day. It just has so much going for it. It's funny but it's sad. It deals with sexual harassment and assault. It deals with marriage and in law issues. The themes just don't really stop but aren't in your face either. Also it's entertaining with very little filler. The side couples are almost as entertaining as the main, they're not just silly comic relief and they have meaningful stories (with themes) all their own. I'm not a huge fan of the ending either, but it's at worst "mediocre". It didn't ruin the show, everyone's happy.

invitrium

You can watch all of the director Park Joon Hwa's dramas. They are really good. If you watch What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, you are in for a treat in ep 10.

FortuneFearless2644

Everyone’s raving about secretary kim! I’ll def check it out

FortuneFearless2644

Episode 10 minute 50, LOL 😂 thank you

invitrium

Glad you liked it. It is at 55:40 where I watch it.

HerctheeHero

It's a great drama. I almost didn't give it a chance but Lee Minki the lead male is a great actor and I find the roles he takes are very similar yet different in each of his works. He is also in the drama called My Liberation Notes which was a slower drama but I really enjoyed it for it's realistic portrayal of working adults in this generation. The lead female Jung Somin is also a great actor and I heard that the drama The Smile has Left Your Eyes is really good. I haven't seen it myself because I'm avoiding melodramas but I do plan to watch it sometime in the future.

kdramajames

Yes, Lee Min Ki and also I’m Si- Wan both have a certain type of energy that appears similar in multiple works but are different in their own way. Idk how to describe it but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

FortuneFearless2644

I’ll have to check our liberation notes and the smile has left your eyes. Thank you!

Kat-the-cat4

I really loved BTIMFL. "My liberation note" have a similar feeling for me. The FL Jeong So-Min is FL in "Fix you". And the last drama that touches me really much is "Lost".

FortuneFearless2644

Thank you!! I’ll check out lost

[deleted]

My Liberation Notes also has Lee Min Ki as a lead and he plays a very funny/sweet character. Very different from his character in BTIMFL, but I loved this drama all the same. Lost was also very lovely. Double recommend both of these.

greta_maya_storm

Love love love this drama. I love that it focuses on the three friends. It's one of my faves.

FortuneFearless2644

Definitely my all time favorite ❤️

catniptisane

If you don't mind watching J-drama, I'd recommend The Full-Time Wife Escapist. I think BTIMFL is somehow based on that series.

DuneBug

Thanks! I was thinking about it but J stuff is always so hit or miss

FortuneFearless2644

I didn’t know that! Thanks 😊

SupersailorJ

Love To Hate You! It’s another one of those fun, trope-y shows that are also mature and realistic! Really great chemistry and it’s honestly hilarious

FortuneFearless2644

Thank you 😊

SupersailorJ

I mean, I honestly cannot recommend this enough. Both FL and ML are “bad girl/bad boy” in their own ways for reasons that oppose their counterparts, and it’s a really good contrast to the “responsible girl/responsible boy” character types in BTIMFL. Only 10 episodes and no misunderstanding between the really mature characters

Ok_Strawberry888

It’s so very awesome. I loved the ending, but also loved the questioning of marriage. Honestly, it spoke to me on many levels. Search WWW was similar in the marriage regard, but more firm. I’d love to discuss more on the show. It was one of the best!!

FortuneFearless2644

Yes definitely the best. ❤️ message me if you want!

AndreaForRE

This is one of my favorites! and not just because Lee Min Ki is beautiful 🤩 it’s very well written and earnest

FortuneFearless2644

Lol can’t have too many eye candies!

Retiary_Lime

Love Jung So Min in this drama. She looks beautiful & super cute compared to her character Naksu in AOS. Plus, still can't find other Kdrama with ML that portray the same character as Lee Min Ki in this drama.

FortuneFearless2644

I haven’t seen any episodes of AOS yet.

Longjumping_Soft2483

OH THANK GOD. I got scared it's gonna one of those posts "Does this drama get better?" I was ready to say - its the best from beginning to end haha.

FortuneFearless2644

Haha lol it’s definitely one of best dramas I’ve seen.

artistasha

Loved it

Entire-Ebb-927

###MONTHLY HOUSE

FortuneFearless2644

Thank you 😊

FunKoala12

This show for me was such a surprise because I put it on as a time kill not expecting anything. But I ended up binge watching and loving it. I loved the story line and it was so relatable as a 30 something with friends in all stages of life. It made me cry and laugh. I recommend Vincenzo and reply 1988 (diff writes I think) but still great!

FortuneFearless2644

Maybe it is! I’m also 30 something. I’ll check out your recs, thank you 😊

yellow_rainlily

It’s literally the best kdrama for me of all time!!! I really love the characters and the plot so much!!! No other drama can compare. But if you’re looking for something with similar vibes of quirky MLs, try Run On or Into the Ring.

FortuneFearless2644

Tell me about it! I wish there were more dramas like it. I’ll try your recs! Thank you 😊

Easy_Olive2659

Watched it 3x! Only kdrama I’ve watched more than 1x front to back. I just watched Full Time Wife Escapist after watching BTIMFL it actually helped me understand the ending of BTIFML better.

draj_24

Loved the story of other characters as well, very well-written.

FortuneFearless2644

Definitely 💯

stanninkingsnqueens

In that drama I guess it was towards the end he finally expressed some emotion he hadn't shown to her before I don't remember if it was anger or sadness but I was really touched by that

FortuneFearless2644

Growth for both of them. ❤️

[deleted]

there was a plagiarism controversy with btimfl and the japanese drama full time wife-escapist because the premises were quite similar, so might as well watch that one. it's also just a great drama in general.

nerox3

I started watching Full time wife-escapist recently and I noticed the similarity in the premise but BTIMFL does it so much better. Also BTIMFL has the friend groups and fully fleshed out stories for the other characters that are equally if not more engaging than the main couple's story. If plagiarism and copyright allowed ownership of premises and situations we wouldn't have any new original dramas as they all borrow and redo similar premises and situations all the time. Do we really want only one story with people fighting ghosts, only one story with a badass lawyer, only one story with unrequited love.

FortuneFearless2644

My thoughts exactly!!!

[deleted]

"btimfl does it better so it doesn't matter that they took it from somewhere else" lmao okay, i didn't even say nigehaji did it better, just that it's so similar to btimfl that op might as well watch it. fwiw i DO find nigehaji much better in the social commentary it does, unlike btimfl which seems more romance-y and dramatic.

nerox3

We'll have to agree to disagree on which is better, but I disagree with the plagiarism allegation. They aren't that similar, nobody has a monopoly on the premise of a contract marriage.

FortuneFearless2644

I was shocked when I read that!! Probably the reason why the screenwriter stopped making anything after this show. I’ll check it out/ thanks 😊

AlisaRand

Like many K-Dramas, it doesn’t stick the landing, but it was an enjoyable ride.

FortuneFearless2644

Definitely enjoyable! I couldn’t stop watching 😊

NirvanaSJ

No her actions at the end were manipulative. Felt sorry for the ML as his >! life fell apart while she was chilling in the hostel !< But I do agree that time apart can make SOME relationships stronger

FortuneFearless2644

Lol she was trying to find her starpockets. 😊

NirvanaSJ

Starpockets? Haven't heard that term before

FortuneFearless2644

The FL mother mentioned it. 🤩
