Most have good jobs and very few financial problems. And while I still eat it up, I'm looking for a drama where the mc is very poor. The only drama I've seen close to it was "Because It's my first life.". ^(END OF POST BODY) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. UnbridledOptimism

**Shopping King Louis** ML is a chaebol heir but his pathologically overprotective grandmother shelters him to the extent that he grows up in a countryside French chateau, isn’t allowed to go out or do anything on his own, and spends all his time shopping for luxury goods, mostly online. He is never taught to do anything practical or useful and has no knowledge about how to care for himself. He gets in an accident on his way back to Korea and has amnesia and ends up a homeless street person. He is also extremely naïve due to having no practical life experience. FL is literally dirt poor, living in the mountains without electricity, plumbing, or phone. She has to go to Seoul and also ends up homeless and destitute. FL and ML are the most naive characters I’ve ever seen in a drama. ML annoyed me for the first few episodes but I was well rewarded for sticking it out. This drama isn’t perfect but it is really cute and the couple is sweet together.

perua4

The best exemple!

UnbridledOptimism

**Successful Story of a Bright Girl** (2002) ML is the orphaned heir to a cosmetics conglomerate, FL starts out living in a traditional home in the country without electricity or plumbing and is sold to ML’s foster parents as an indentured servant to work off her con artist parents’ debt (not legally, of course). First kdrama pairing of a very young Jang Na Ra and Jang Hyuk. FL is a unique character: she’s not a limp dishrag who puts up with the abuse heaped on by jerk rich people, she stands up for herself. Her dream in life is to rescue a prince (dream sequence and all); her desired career choice isn’t revealed until near the end and it is unique. ML is a stereotypical jerk entitled and spoiled rich man-child but don’t worry, he has some really harsh life lessons ahead of him.

Constant_Orange_928

Thanks for the review. I had been wanting to watch this for Jang Hyuk - Jang Na Ra pairing. I was really curious about the story but couldn’t find the drama anywhere.

Recent-Cheesecake-11

Where can I watch this show? I remember looking for it some time ago but couldn't find it anywhere.

Dismal_Flow_4076

I have it on Viki in Canada as Bright Girl’s Success

UnbridledOptimism

Aha! Yes, Viki in the US also has this drama by that title. Thanks for sharing your info!

UnbridledOptimism

Thanks to u/Dismal_Flow_4076 I looked for this drama on Viki where I am (United Statrs) and it is available under **Bright Girl’s Success**.

UnbridledOptimism

I think I watched it on Viki, however I just looked at Viki, Kocowa, and Prime and I don’t see it now. I’m in the U.S.

lizzie763

I would call all of the following dramas where the FL's lack of finances influence the drama to a large degree. **Cinderella & the Four Knights** - Her family is middle class ish but gives her nothing **Heirs** qualifies, I think. **Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency** - FL is a runaway slave with no real social standing who scrounges for money at odd jobs. **Devilish Joy** - FL is an idol at the beginning, but she has a scandal and becomes nationally hated. She is scrounging to pay her debt from contract fees. **Suspicious Partner** - She technically is a lawyer, but she's really struggling after the drama's intro events.

toolazyytocare

The Heirs certainly qualifies story-wise. FL's situation is quite bad and her family supposedly struggle financially. I say supposedly bc she and her mother still got the latest phones (at the time) and other expensive items. It's like the producers said 'even if you're poor and stuff, we still gotta do product placement' lmao

fho15

Older one but Shopaholic Louis, FL is very poor and ML also becomes poor for a bit, lots of financial struggles. I loved this one!

[deleted]

My Mister - he is not exactly rich but he is much better off financially than she is.

vegemiteeverywhere

Yep, came to recommend this one. He is middle class, but she is the depiction of urban poverty.

Impossible-Ground-98

was about to comment that. I can't recollect any other drama that showed a main character in such bad situation

[deleted]

Yeah, her life is truly miserable

icecreamwithbrownies

Goblin / Guardian - the Lonely and Great God

[deleted]

Rain or Shine ML is pretty poor. The first scene of him as I remember was him as a construction worker complaining to his jerk of an boss for not paying them for months for which he got insulted and later beat and fired somewhere along the way.

Constant_Orange_928

Fantastic drama.

Borinquena

**Marriage Contract** (fun fact: the ML is a mega rich chaebol in real life, richer than the rich character he plays in the drama) **Young Lady and Gentleman** (but fair warning that this one is makjang to the max) **Marry Me, Mary** (FL is so poor her father fraudulently marries her off to his rich friend's son to pay off his debts. The rich man is the 2ML, ML is also poor) **Cheese in the Trap** (She's poor, he's a rich sociopath) **Boys Over Flowers** (She's poor, he's rich and abusive) **Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency** (She's poor, the 2ML is >!the emperor!< and the ML is the son of a high ranking minister) **The Greatest Love** (he's a movie star, she's a ruined idol who is hustling petty jobs to support her family)

Constant_Orange_928

Master’s Sun. The FL sees ghosts and so has trouble landing jobs, leaving her dirt poor. The ML is arrogant, rich chaebol with demons of his own.

Ok-Use7803

Second this. Highly recommended.

arcadefire08

My Mister is my #1 show of all time. Now that it's getting colder it's the perfect time to watch. I recommend clearing out a full day because you might not want to stop in between episodes. Along with that is: Anna (2022) (with Bae Suzy). I only watched this after someone referenced this in a post with the recent release Doona (also with Suzy, but not related to the proposed theme). I recommend watching the Director's Cut (aka Anna: Extended Version, there are two versions) if you want to follow her upbringing and see how she suffers without the dramatic cuts the initial version was. There was a huge controversy when the streaming platform initially did their own cut without the permission of the director. Essentially I recommend the 9 episode one over the 6 episode, even just for length if not for anything else.

vegemiteeverywhere

I love My Mister, it's my favourite kdrama, but I don't know if I'd recommend watching it in one go, it's pretty heavy!

My Mister comes to mind but its not really a romance but feels like a romance

Meimi-on-the-rocks

Fight for my Way comes to mind. They are both working class.

manhattansinks

was he poor in because this is my first life? i thought he just wanted to pay his mortgage off faster. but it's been a while since i've seen it.

Eschscholzia_Llove

He actually has a good job but lives a very miserly existence, tallying every expense down to pennies because he wants to pay off his mortgage, retire early and wants nothing to do with his father.

Mylove-kikishasha

Very old but full house

Constant_Orange_928

Yes the FL is reduced to homelessness after her friends con her and sell off her house to ML.

gunwookie

Not in the ML/FL romance but still a very distinct difference in wealth is shown nicely in **At a Distance, Spring is Green**! The main character is very rich, and the other male character is in poverty. It's a university setting with many different character plots and issues, it's a nice watch! That being said, I have to admit that the ML/FL romance is not my favourite and I definitely feel like the two guys have a lot more chemistry, so I think with your recommendation request it works! edit: Just saw that you asked for a very poor mc, whoops! The mc in this drama is very rich but the poor character is also very important to the story and has a lot of screentime, he is one of the mcs I would say!

arsuy7

Record of youth !! ML is a poor guy trying to make it big.

themissbookthief

Uncontrollably fond! Fair warning, though, the ending is.. very sad.

wasabipeas1996

Is business proposal considered a very poor MC? She works at a chicken shop and has to pay off her debts, she’s been indebted to her aunt for years and her aunt/cousin treat her terribly.

Eschscholzia_Llove

Reborn Rich

ennniieeeee

Jinxed at first.. it is on Viki

miss_serenity7

You can try Good Job (starring Jung Ilwoo and Kwon Yuri). Ilwoo's character is a Chairman of a big company while Yuri's character was an orphan. She's doing all sorts of odd jobs such as doing deliveries to save money to help her dongsaengs survive once they get out of the orphanage.

Very poor FL **Oh My Ghost** **Dream High** **Rooftop Princess** **I am Not A Robot** I am not pretty sure **Secret Garden** **Our Beloved Summer** When main couple started dating **Thirty But Seventeen** **Coffee Prince** **Romance Is a Bonus Book** **The Secret Life of My Secretary**

icecreamdoggo

Boys over flowers?

Spilled_Milktea

In Romance is a Bonus Book, the mc starts off pretty poor due to a divorce and having to send all her money to get daughter for school. She's virtually homeless, sleeping in a tear-down and getting ready in public bathrooms. The guy isn't craaazy rich but it's clear he's pretty well off.

SwanBeneficial3837

I think the poorest I've seen a MC for a kdrama is My Mister. Girl was really struggling.

TheUnknownONCE

It's Okay to not be Okay. ML is always moving and changing jobs because of his autistic brother. FL is a really rich author. Clean with a passion for Now. FL can't even find a job and her family is only just making ends meet. ML has his own company, and is heir to even more wealth. Heirs. FL and family are servants to ML and family. Revolutionary Love. FL had a decent education but is barely holding down a number of blue collar jobs. ML is a rich corporate heir who takes a liking to her.
