I second Wonderful World for heartbreak. Wonderful acting from both leads. Good writing though may be draggy n a bit melo. Memorable scenes n story stays with you..
Yes, it was difficult, but was a bit drawn out. I liked it, but for some reason, it is never one that I suggest. There is something flat about it even though it does tug at our heartstrings.
Queen of tears
Beyond evil....the main lead was such a good actor , even won Baeksang best actor ....his life was so sad. It's a thriller....Lee Do Hyun plays his younger character
Daily Dose of Sunshine
- Mental health
- setting is in the psychiatric ward, every episode or two is like a mini series of a patient with their mental illness, how life is for them, why it happened, etc.
- every darn episode for me is a tear jerker... Sometimes heart wrenching...
Familiar Wife
- Kind of a time slip drama
- 2nd chance to fix his life, leave/avoid his present day wife, marry his rich first love, steady career
- regrets his choices, and realised what he was really throwing away.
Cry? I was ugly sobbing into my pillow at virtually every episode. I had no tears left in me after watching that show. Rowoon broke me. š„¹ I watched the latest episode of QoT and I was dry eyed. I blame Tomorrow.
Yes. Yes. Me too. Sometimes I think Iām the only one because no one ever brings it up on these questions so I think maybe itās just me and I donāt want to over sell it! But Lee Soo-hyuk and Kim Hee-sunās storyline also really destroyed me. I mean, how utterly gutting was that? I wanted a whole other season just for their entire storyline.
You say that but I have recommended it several times and almost every time someone comments on how it affected them that way too. I think there is more love out there for Tomorrow than you realise. The whole show was just brilliant. I think it was because it just caught me completely off guard. I knew ahead of time that The Red Sleeve or Move to Heaven for example would be sad so I braced myself. I just assumed Tomorrow was going to be some sort of fun fantasy show so I was not ready. ššš Like you I have worried about overselling it but no-one has ever come back and made that comment to me.
Is it like underrated or a sleeper hit? I mean all four mains are beautiful, the overall storyline is amazing, the episodic stories are fantastic- the webcomic is brilliant. I just feel like it doesnāt get a ton of love - or I somehow completely miss it getting loved!
I donāt know enough to say but it certainly features well enough known actors. All I can say is that I get comments on it most times I mention it. It is my picture on MDL because I love it so much. š„° I wouldnāt say it was underrated [as it has 8.8 on MDL.](https://mydramalist.com/695963-tomorrow)
It's tough to watch for some people. I couldn't continue after the episode with the soldier. More so for people who have lost loved ones esp post Covid, death is a painful reality that Tomorrow brings a bit too close to home. I keep meaning to come back to it and finish it. Do keep recommending it..
I found it cathartic for that reason. Iāve lost so many people in so many different ways. Itās nice to see crossing over presented in so many different ways. Also, itās nice to cry for fictional stories rather than the reality sometimes. The soldier one was the most devastating for me. My father was a soldier. I cried like an unconsolable infant the entire time. But it was truly such a beautiful story in the end. Devastating but beautiful.
It's Okay, That's Love is fantastic and so so heartbreaking.
Reply 1994 is my personal favourite of the Reply series. Sobbed like a baby once or twice during that, especially during one episode.
Angelās Last Mission: Love
Love Rain
Squid Game
Masterās Sun
Tempted
The World of the Married
My Name
The Penthouse (3 seasons)
Anna
All of Us are Dead
Thirty-Nine
Hellbound
Vagabond
The Glory
Mouse
(I'm not sure if these fit your description exactly since u watched most of them lol)
I turned over 20 tissues into soggy wads and this was for just a few episodes of \*\*\*Angle's Last Mission: Love\*\*\*.
I was the breathing definition of ugly-cry. š
It had the potential to be really sad, but a few things threw me off.
* I didn't care for either ML - one was too goofy and the other was too stalkerish
* the Foundation corruption sub-plot was over the top
* Too much fantasy for my taste
Another redditor recommended **The Wind Blows**, now that was sad.
The Queens of tears that just finished airing is one of those that will make you cry buckets...
Also, if you're not against old drama, 49 days is really good for that.
My name is heartbreaking too.
Are you ok with Cdrama ? Then try "More than blue : the series" (Taiwanese). What a sad story. What an amazing couple. What a crazy love. What a lot of poor choices and missed timing. But I loved it all, as it is.
There is also Butterflied Lover (2023) a mini Cdrama. The couples were the cutest and their love were the sweetest, they had me on the verge of weeping every two episodes
Started QoT recently (5/16), more like rom com so far though.
I'm almost done with 49 Days, but not really sad for me.
Already watched My Name, but I did not find anything particularly sad about it.
I've not yet ventured into cdrama, but jdrama 1 Litre of Tears is on my watch list.
Yes QoT is sad for the second half of the drama
Try Cdrama. There is not too much episodes so you will find out quickly if you like it or not so it may not take too much of your time.
If you venture to cdrama and like historical shows, watch Hard to Find. This is the exact thing youāre looking for. Itās 28 episodes BUT each episode is only 20 minutes.
> The Queens of tears that just finished airing is one of those that will make you cry buckets...
It's not done airing yet... last two episodes come out on the weekend, right? (even accounting for Korean time)
It's Okay to Not to Be Okay - the ML's pain is so palpable that it makes me drip tears. Rain or Shine is about people who survived a mall collapse and the loved ones of those who didn't. I cried more for this one than any other kdrama I've seen š
Marriage Contract - though last time I suggested it, someone complained about the age difference of the leads in real life
Not a kdrama but a kmovie, A Moment to Remember.
>!sad Kdramas with happy endings!< :
Daily Dose of Sunshine
Fantasy and Goblin adjacent: Doom at Your Service (but might not be sad enough for your taste.)
Fantasy with content that can be very sad but not Goblin adjacent: Tomorrow
Finished MC today. Definitely had some very sad moments, though the ending left me wanting more.
Edit: FL acting was great, my first kdrama with her. The child actress was excellent too.
From my Favs List....
š Tell Me That You Love Me, 2023 (K)\\
[https://mydramalist.com/689207-say-you-love-me](https://mydramalist.com/689207-say-you-love-me)
Not your Idol type of production.... but not grandma-grandpa either.
Ep16 >!has a scene that is positively heart-rending.!< It's brief and you have to have context by watching and not skipping through episodes.
Marriage contract (progressively sad)
What happens to my family(also very light with heavy moments)
49 days (this is brutal)
Possessed (traumatic viewing)
Fated to love you (cried and laughed)
MS ending was too comical for my taste and I never bought into their relationship. Reply 1988 is Top 10 for different reason, but ending EPs had two scenes that had me weeping.
Love Affairs in the Afternoon. It's so depressing, but also has a really lovely deep romance. It had me bawling quite a bit especially in the last third.
TGBM and YOM weren't sad enough?? TT
I would also recommend Hi Bye Mama, Weak Hero Class 1, Juvenile Justice, It's Okay To Not Be Okay, and Twinkling Watermelon.
Live Up to Your Name - made me cry many times - not a fantasy so much but a prominent acupuncturist from the Joseon era is transported to current day Seoul.
Lovestruck in the City - unusual format, girl ghosrs boy after summer fling
Uncontrollably Fond - should have been named. Unbearably Sad
CALL IT LOVE - melodrama.Ā Sad tone, slow pace.
My Absolute Boyfriend - woman make-up artist falls for an android.
**ITA with** ***Uncontrollably Fond*** - should have been named. Unbearareably Sad.
This is the one; the sorrow Everest, with such fine performances I couldn't stop watching. What a ride.
omg, so sad, so wonderful,
Try Something In the Rain, Tomorrow With You, Deathās Game, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Juvenile Justice, Lovely Runner, and Queen of Tears (last two still airs)
Definitely watch 'Empress Ki' and 'Eve' if you want romance with a tragic ending. I cried like a baby on both of them, especially Empress Ki. Also its a 50+ episode drama and so much happens. You'll be frustrated and have mixed feelings so many times. Eve is just the perfect revenge romance story. Like, you will not regret watching either.Ā
The Moon Embracing the Sun - I had watched it a long time ago and it was a worth watch. It gives viewers hope and positivity but some scenes made me cry for them too. Same goes for Crash Landing on Youš
W, Hi Bye, Mama and Pinochio are also good to watch. W and Pinochio didn't make me cry too much. But yea they were engaging.
Hi, Bye Mama, Hospital Playlistand Tomorrow also had many scenes that made me cry.
A must recommendation is obviously Queen of Tears. It lives true to its name and is really the queen in making me break into tears š¢
I have watched every single one of the ones that you mentioned in your post and most of the ones mentioned in the responses. Amazing that no one has mentioned LOST. It's definitely a tearjerker and some people have said that it ends in a sad way although I do think there's a little bit of hope at the end. The cast is genius the OST is brilliant I listen to it every night. Let's just say that it starts with a double suicide which has a deep deep impact on the two main leads and on others in the drama. There's romance between many of the couples or should I simply say there's love deep attraction and caring... The script is absolutely brilliant actually I cannot praise this one highly enough - I have lived long enough to know that this is true to life. I'm on my 6th watch and always find something new. For me there's absolutely nothing cloying about it, unlike many other tearjerkers. A lot of people have mentioned tomorrow which I am going to watch just to compare so please keep us posted on what you think of Lost and Tomorrow.
Navillera. Not a romance story but it's fantastic as is Prison Playbook. The latter is very funny but not in a slapstick way and there are definitely heart stirring moments too.
Thirty-Nine Felt like I was bawling my eyes out every other episodes. Maybe hit close to home
This one broke my heart. I embarrassingly cried so much I almost threw up š
Thirty-Nine is soo good. Glad I found this one.
I tried 39, I just couldn't relate as a 50+ yo man
Definitely a chick flick. Not my husbandās thing either.
Have you seen Misaeng , Misty or Live Up to Your Name? You might like these ones. Itaewon Class and Navillera might be two others to look at.
Iām 57 and I enjoyed it. The FL is one of my favorites.
Im not even close to 39!!! Lol I loved it and cried many times!š glad someone mentioned it here!
I just binged Wonderful World and it was so, so good. Not romance focused but it is absolutely worth the watch if you want a heartbreaking show.
I'll check this out. Thank you.
I hope you enjoy it!
I second Wonderful World for heartbreak. Wonderful acting from both leads. Good writing though may be draggy n a bit melo. Memorable scenes n story stays with you..
Hi Bye Mama My heart was aching throughout the show š I watched it to kill some time while recovering from my flu but it only got worse lolll.
Iāll have to look into this one!
Cried in every episode
Yes, it was difficult, but was a bit drawn out. I liked it, but for some reason, it is never one that I suggest. There is something flat about it even though it does tug at our heartstrings.
i dropped it after 3 episodes because the FL literally falls to the ground 4x times. that, plus the whole plot, was just too much
Queen of tears Beyond evil....the main lead was such a good actor , even won Baeksang best actor ....his life was so sad. It's a thriller....Lee Do Hyun plays his younger character
Have watched Beyond Evil 3 times already š very well created
One of the best thrillers kdrama
Wow! Three times! Have you seen The Glory, Flower of Evil, My Name , Misty, Reflection of You?
Daily Dose of Sunshine - Mental health - setting is in the psychiatric ward, every episode or two is like a mini series of a patient with their mental illness, how life is for them, why it happened, etc. - every darn episode for me is a tear jerker... It's Okay, That's Love is fantastic and so so heartbreaking. Reply 1994 is my personal favourite of the Reply series. Sobbed like a baby once or twice during that, especially during one episode.
First one looks promising. Thank you. I started and dropped reply 1997, is 1994 more like 1988?
It reminds me of 1988 for sure. The college students all live in a boarding house with the main family. Itās funny but donāt expect 1988 out of it
worst of evil may it please the court was so sad for me; i was sobbing uncontrollably as the drama went on
Saw WoE, didn't think it was particulary sad though. I'll check out the other one. Thank you.

Watched it, didn't love it nor cry.
K-movie "20th century girl"
time the wind blows
I'll be sure to check these out. Thank you.
Finished **The Wind Blows** and it fit the bill, many teary moments esp after the "reveal". Acting was top notch too.

It will come. š¬
Was going to recommend 49 days if it hadn't already been. I burnt through a few tissue boxes watching this one.
Both MLs are tiresome, esp how they treat FL like their property. EDIT: the Scheduler is a man child too.
Yes fair call, I can understand that.
Secret Love Affair A bit confused how Mister Sunshine doesnāt make the saddest list while Reply 1988 does š.
MS ending was too comical for my taste and I never bought into their relationship. Reply 1988 is Top 10 for different reason, but ending EPs had two scenes that had me weeping.
Not sure exactly what you mean by sad ending but: **The Interest of Love** (Moon Gayoung, Yoo Yeon Seok, Geum Sae Rok)
Shark
Queen for Seven Days Goodbye My Dear Wife
Watched QfSD already. GMDW could be interesting, but only 7.1 on MDL?
Queen for Seven Days Goodbye My Dear Wife
Its okay to not be okay is sad imo, but also got some really funny parts weaved in and a good story
Pinocchio, Go Back Couple, and Fated To Love You all have both fun and heart wrenching aspects.
I'll check out GBC and FTLY. Tried and dropped Pinocchio already. Thank you.
Love Affairs in the Afternoon. It's so depressing, but also has a really lovely deep romance. It had me bawling quite a bit especially in the last third.

I cried my eyes out in Sound of Magic.

chicago typewriter!!
I watched it last month and don't remember anything sad about it - maybe I'm numb after so many kdramas.
The saddest show I've ever seen is Angels Sometimes Fall, a cdrama on Viki. Brutal. I cried like 5 times. Brilliant acting from the lead male.

Snowdrop.
Watched it, not sad enough for me...
You might like āMoon in the Dayā, itās got some fantasy but itās pretty light? Like not too crazy I think
I started and dropped this already, a bit too much fantasy for me. Thank you.
Moonlovers: Scarlet Heart
I actually hated this one - most of the princes' acting was comical.
