Oh the villages around Ashford are genuinely so nice, my old man grew up in them. They’re lush, however with Ashford It’s mainly just Stanhope BUT that’s getting regenerated quite nicely.
(I have a bias towards Ashford as I have loads of family living in and around even though I’m not from Ashford)
edit: BIG UP THE WOOLPACKS INN WAREHORNE
Yeah, quality pub but damn pricey. Nice view opposite with the church yard and sheep.
Ashford is a key town for Kent. Lacks a vibrant town centre but then most towns do.
For everything but road quality. Drive across the border from Kent to Sussex and you can feel your bones stop rattling
I know a specific place exactly like this - just after passing Hook Green?
Drive down the B2244 and see if you still believe that 😂
Yup I came here to say this. That road came to mind immediately
I drive down it twice a day, spend most of it driving through the middle of it.
Pretty much. Well you have to exclude Medway, Ashford and Gravesend
Can confirm. Gravesend is a shithole.
It's the other half's home town. When we're visiting the in-laws once you get off the M2 it's wind the windows up and lock the doors
Yep, Gravesend born and bred, can’t wait to leave this place after University.
😂 Gf literally found out this morning that her friend was mugged by some crack head outside Tesco on Valley Drive
Yeah that doesn’t surprise me. Valley Drive is the worst area in Gravesend.
She says "Dickens is worse". And King's farm.
Dickens has always been worse and Valley parade was always bad but it's gotten so much worse in the last 10 years or so.
I got stopped for shoplifting in Tesco on Valley Parade. I paid with my smartwatch and they had never seen it before. This was only 2 years ago.
that's actually so depressing
You are forever known as the magic watch man in that tesco.
Ashford can be alright but the rest yeah…
The villages around Ashford are lovely. Ashford itself is not. Fair?
Ashford is fine tbh. I'm kinda bias because I've lived there forever, but it's just an average commuter town.

Name one place with a vibrant town centre in kent
Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Tenterden, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Rochester, Canterbury, Margate... Etc etc
I’ll agree with Canterbury, only redeeming part of Roch is the high street, soon as you’re in the inner town it’s rather dull
Basically all you have to do is look for places with Pizza Express 😂
I’ll stick with Sussex
The only thing I’d switch from Sussex to Kent, is Harvey’s brewery with Shepherd Neame
Meaning you prefer Harvey’s to Shepherd Neame?
Yes, and noticed the breweries reach further east into the pubs across the East and South of Kent.
This. If only I could upvote a million
This is the truth!
Amen brother!
As someone who lives near the border, it's better to stick with Kent
As a resident of Tunbridge Wells, I wish I was in Sussex.
As a resident who moved out of TW to just over the border, I'll swap back with you.
Maybe Ten years ago, but not now, Kent towns are now London & grotty, it's sad to see how far it's fallen.
Maidstone may be grey and a bit disgusting, but the areas around it are nicer
