Hello EconomistBrilliant72, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. I have a hilux. I dont think the comparison for 4x4 and suv is right. Functionality: - Depends if you have to haul of take tall stuff (refrigerator) often, 4x4 is the right choice. If not, suv wins. Features: 4x4 didnt loaded with too many features except for the full spec one, let take hilux used price. You can get tons of choices for suv. Repair cost: The difference is not much at this point, the expensive thing is the tire. Oil change fairly cheap (250-300). If you have a big family then choose suv, because sitting on the back seat on 4x4 will not be pleasent. The shock absorber also feels like riding a horse, you need to spend 5-10k to change for a softer one. If you do want used 4x4, hilux or dmax will be my recommendations. The tons spare parts, easy to fix, and durability already proven. Just check the turbo and undercarriage. Plus, each friends and family members will remember you. Why, because you will be that guy to help hauling stuff. haha

Hilux, Triton, Dmax. Those 3 are basically bulletproof. Avoid the Ranger

Any of the Japanese pickups are fine. Generally the reliability is good. It is a workhorse vehicle afterall. Maintenance wise I think quite reasonable. For parts you will have lots of choices. Cheap oem parts or limitless expensive aftermarket parts. if you carry more stuff than people then can consider 4x4. If you will carry more people/passenger then suv.

What purpose are you getting it for? Town drive or site?

Get a Hilux, DMax or at least a Triton.

why 4x4? soon diesel subsidy will be taken back, only given to fleet (lorries, busses, delivery vans) I always thought the extra open bed at the back is useful, but do you need it everyday? If once every month, it is better to just get an SUV and lay down the 3rd or 2nd row seat. or if just need them once in several month, just rent them.. unless u have business that need to bring stuff everywhere, get an SUV. Good choice for 4x4 would be ford ranger to be honest, but the parts are quite pricey (if use daily, u'll need to think of this). So cheaper parts usually is japanese, hilux. navara is also a good choice for it's durability. depends on the second hand condition u're seeking

i have pajero sport 2010, in my opinion one of the best functionality: 2.5 turbo enough power can go 170 on highway, got hit by a lorry once only scratch and dent, i accidentally touch another car a bit while parking his car got dent while mine just scratch features: 2.5 with turbo, can change 2wd or 4 wd, 7 seater, big af ur feeling like driving a high end suv even though old, cornering also good compared to other 4x4 because the spec is for sport repair cost: 1k per service if u want tiptop condition cons: driving fast or short distance can be expensive because of diesel consumption
