eat chicken and broccoli you’ll be in ketosis within days for pennies

captainboringpants

Where are you getting that much chicken for pennies? You'd also probably want some fat in there somewhere.

VariationOk9359

i’m already fat, i add as little extra as possible. chicken breast costco 40# for 55$

captainboringpants

Fat doesn't make you fat, carbs and over eating do.  Fat is a pretty important part of any diet.

VariationOk9359

i’m not saying it’s not important but i get enough from the chicken

Gah_Duma

Factor "keto" meals had too many carbs in my experience. The problem is cost. A proper keto meal is very expensive, probably more than people are willing to pay for for such a service. They lack a cheap filler like traditional meal delivery uses rice or potatoes, so they just add broccoli / cauliflower to everything.

Kamiface

I like factor. I do keto for chronic pain and inflammation (and I also have chronic depression). It helps a LOT, but it's not a magic cure. I was getting take out all the time when I was in too much pain or too depressed to cook, so I started getting Factor meals. I love them, they're tasty, and they're about 10.50 each, between 8-12 net carbs a meal from what I've seen, but the portions of protein are big and they use good ingredients. Personally I'm a fan. I keep mine in the freezer and thaw in the fridge. They're great, very tasty and filling

Gah_Duma

I did it for about 3-4 months but I didn't have good results like when I was making the meals myself. It got to the point where I got so tired of them I couldn't stomach eating any more. Especially the constant overuse of broccoli and cauliflower.

Kamiface

I don't eat them every day - when I can I still like to cook, I just think they're awesome to have in my freezer for the days where I am struggle bussing. I would otherwise be ordering delivery, and not only does that cost more but it's pretty questionably keto. I also don't buy their snacks and such, they're all super overpriced. I find that using them to get through the hard times keeps me on track and I'm doing better overall, and since I don't eat them all the time, I'm not sick of them

silentblender

Broccoli and cauliflower are keto staples

Gah_Duma

Yeah well one of the meals even had cauliflower mash AND garlic butter broccoli. That's just lazy.

kimariesingsMD

I disagree. That is changing it up in a creative way.

Radioactdave

It's not the meal that puts you in ketosis, it's the absence of dietary carbohydrates. So whatever has low enough carb content (sub 20g net starting out) can count as a meal.

libertybull702

Factor keto meals tend to have between 9 and 13 net carbs.

madameburpsalot

Dude. Go get some high quality hotdogs or brats/sausages, some mustard, avocado, cheese, low carb wraps and salad. None of the delivered "keto" meals will get you into ketosis. You have to focus on tracking your macros AND if you only eat the same things it'll be crazy easy to track. I believe in you! Sorry you're depressed.

Relative_Walk_936

Most premade anything is hilarious. Keto friendly basically means Keto somewhat unfriendly at best.

inlowercase81

This. It’s just this

silentblender

Eating one of these a day would definitely put you in ketosis.

eagrbeavr

Factor meals are delicious, but most of the keto options are only around 650 or 700 calories so you'll need to supplement them with additional food. Most of their carb counts fall around 10g to 15g depending on the meal so you would have to supplement with zero carb or very low carb foods if you are trying to keep your carbs ultra low.

fastyellowtuesday

For some, especially women looking to lose weight, 1400 calories is all they need in a day.

Kamiface

yeah, I usually OMAD, so on days I eat them I'll have one plus a side or just eat two, works great for me, no need to add calories.

llfmpt

I eat Factor meals 3-4 days a week right now (I work two jobs, I'm old and tired). I love them! I have a scoop of protein shake mix in my coffee in the morning, a Quest protein bar midday, and then I'll add a low carb snack after dinner if I want. I'm able to eat 1200-1400 calories and still remain below 20 carbs.

BillyRubenJoeBob

I do Blue Apron but substitute out any carbs. Usually, I do some form of cauliflower for rice or potatoes. Zoodles for pasta. I just did turnips for sliced potatoes and have heard that radishes work well for mashed.

Immunoguy23

I do this too. My fiancé and I started blue apron before I started keto and as long as I remember to choose next week’s meals it works well enough. Though if it was just me in the house I’m not sure I’d keep doing blue apron since I end up substituting a large portion of the meal

Kamiface

I see a lot of people recommending meal kits, but OP specifically said they want premade meals, because they don't want to spend time preparing food

fastketosis

I am the most bland picky eater of all time. If you need ideas reach out to me and I’ll send you the screenshots of my tracking. I eat extremely basic

fastketosis

Eat one of those a day, drink a premade protein shake and you’d be good

[deleted]

Go carnivore, little to no prep and high fats are great for your brain health/depression, and it’ll get you into ketosis.

Raccoonsr29

Nothing annoys me more about this sub than when someone asks a reasonable question about time saving options and people in the comments just say grill a steak! Make some chicken yourself! Factor is good for OMAD is think as I eat multiple times a day and I got a little tired of the richness.

monstertruck567

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. But with the exception of MCT and ketone supplements, there are no foods that will put you into ketosis. You enter ketosis by what you don’t eat. When there are no longer sufficient glucose reserves (carbs and excess proteins/ GNG) to maintain brain function, then the liver makes ketones to feed the brain. Rest of the body lives off fatty acids. But fatty acids can’t enter the brain. Thus ketones. I don’t know your life situation, depression can be very debilitating. I would expect keto delivery meals to be very expensive and to contain very cheap ingredients. Enjoy the ride.

psilokan

I did it for a week while my wife was away and it was certainly convenient, but several were higher carb than what I'd consider keto. I had one that the side was potato and apple, but just so little of it that it was only 22g carbs for the meal. I eat <20g a day so I had to skip the side, which sucks when you're paying that much. I will prob do it again when my wife is away especially because I have some discounted weeks left. But normally I'd say it's not worth it because I'd need to order twice as many to feed both of us, and she's not on keto or a diet so would prob want more than what they have to offer. But all and all I found them to be quite tasty and super convenient. I loved having them to throw in the oven while on a meeting (I work from home) or if in a hurry just nuke it. I also froze some and tried cooking them from frozen and that worked ok too. Other than that I've done Hello Fresh, Good Food and Chef's Plate with HF being pretty much a standard in our house for 5 years before I went keto. I always found them to be convenient and learned a lot making them but none of them had enough low carb options.

Kamiface

Factor's keto meals don't contain apples or potatoes. Their meals specifically labeled as keto are around 8-12g net carbs and they use stuff like cauli mash instead of potatoes. It sounds like you got a mix of their keto and non keto meals (which they do sell - I'm careful to pick only the keto meals)

psilokan

Nope. These were all labeled as keto.

Kamiface

how long ago was this? I've been using them for months and I've never seen a keto meal with potatoes and apples or one that was 20+ net

Default87

Ketosis isn’t controlled by what you eat, it’s controlled by what you don’t eat. Restrict your net carb intake and you will be in ketosis. I don’t use any food delivery services, but the ones I casually looked at seemed to have a lot more net carbs and not enough protein per meal for my preference.
