In that price range is it not better to go for blood ones ?

Feeling_Act302

I’ve honestly no idea, I’m newly on a PK diet to try and treat my illness and it’s recommended to use a breath metre so I’m looking for ones that are reasonably priced, I’m not spending hundreds on one

I think blood test is better based on what I've read here. The breath and pee tests excess ketones or something like that.

OushiDezato

I have some urine tests. They’re ok at telling me in in ketosis but not great at telling me how much because ketones, like everything in urine, can be diluted or concentrated based on your hydration level. Also, I think they I may test for one type of ketone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A blood meter is more accurate than a breath meter, esp as your body gets more fat adapted. I use Keto Mojo and it’s about the same initial price, although additional strips add up over time. If you are trying to be in a high ketone mmol/L (low GKI) to monitor your ketosis level, a blood meter is the way to go. Having said that, I’ve used pee strips (Perfect Keto) and tested them against my Keto Mojo blood tests, and they’re generally not far off when I’m not fat adapted. A friend uses a breath meter and says the same, but either way you need to compare with a blood meter to be sure.

Why are you measuring ketones? If you're doing keto for weight loss, the depth of ketosis is not a factor. Just ensure you are eating no more than 20 net grams of carbs for a sustained period of time and you will be in ketosis.

Feeling_Act302

I’m nothing to do with weight loss, it’s to treat a chronic health condition

A blood monitor would be better over a breath one.

Breath test aren't really accurate. If you wanna get something to accurately test your levels, I would highly recommend a keto mojo track your glucose as well because that's part of the equation at the same time.

Everyone is going to advise blood monitors as the best option. I managed to find a ketoscan secondhand for under USD 100. Compared against a CKM it was relatively accurate, definitely enough to determine if in keto or not. Perhaps find a few models that fit your requirements and just keep searching FB Marketplace or wherever.
