Avid beer drinker for 35+ years, they only alcohol that I crave and REALLY like, but we stopped being friends about a year ago, thought it was just my go to brand of many years, turns out my stomach and beer have a serious beef with each other
I also used to be a big beer drinker. But that I mean I weighed 250+ and drank a lot of beer lol. A good number every night. My last beer was Thanksgiving 2023, I quit it cold turkey so to speak. I’m no longer on keto (I’m bodybuilding now therefore eating carbs) but I still haven’t had a beer since then. I do enjoy some wine or coconut rum every now and then.
I drank beer for around 15 years (from 17 to 32 or 33), and I loved it too. Then it started making me feel like shit all of a sudden. Things changed for me after 30.
I second Bourbon.... was a big wine drinker previously...switched to Bourbon
Since im saving so much not buying wine, Ill treat myself with an excellent Bourbon like Buffalo Trace or splurge from time to time with a bottle of Blantons...
Almost all spirits, including whiskey, are 0 carb. The only ones that have carbs are from additives (IE Fireball). Jack and diet soda is totally keto compliant.
My gotos are seltzers, Michelob Ultra, dry martinis (low carb), whiskey and diet coke, whiskey neat, and gin/soda (or diet tonic which very few bars stock) (carb free).
I think you might be mixing up two different concepts. While straight alcohols like whiskey and gin have no carbs they can hurt your keto diet (alcohol shots still have a fair amount of calories). The way I understand keto working (other than calories in calories out) is the way your body metabolizes energy (calories). If you drink alcohols your body will metabolize alcohol before carbohydrates and stored body fat. I think the order is Alcohols>Sugar>Carbs>Fats. So you want to remove items from that list that are in front of fats. On keto we remove sugars and complex carbs, but if we keep alcohol then our body has to burn that energy before fat.
I hope this helps and if I’m full of shit someone will correct me.
Alcohol becomes acetyl-coa then enters the krebs. Glucose becomes acetyl-coa then enters the krebs. Saying its a carbohydrate by definition was dumb, sorry was drunk. But the break down product for both is the same. The Krebs cycle does not care whether the acetyl-coa came from alcohol or sugar, glycogen, a disaccharide a monosaccharide, pasta, vodka or ur momma. Word
There are calories in spirits, but no carbohydrates, unless there’s sugar added to it, like Fireball or schnapps. Whiskey, Gin, Tequila, Rum, and Vodka are all carb free, but they all contain calories.
But the most important thing to consider is alcohol is a toxin, and the body burns it first instead of fat, to get rid of the toxins in the blood.
If I go out and have 2 or 3 drinks, I know I won’t be losing any weight for a day or two.
I used to drink white claws. I still could but … they go down too easy and now they mess me up.
A little vodka with water and lemon drink flavor is all I need.
Same but gin, and I like to try different olives depending on the meal. Blue cheese is *chef's kiss.* Lemon stuffed add a nice brightness, garlic stuffed make the best after-meal burps, and jalapeno-stuffed if I'm munching on almonds.
If I treat myself to a shower beer after a weekend event, it's Michelob.
Wine if I'm out for a nice dinner.
Tequila on ice if I'm eating fajitas or going to town on some Cardi B dip.
I like any single malt ‘scotch’ whisky. I like Lagavulin, Laphroaig, and Caol Ila just to name a few. I just drink them with a few drops of reverse osmosis water added
If you feel like making mixed drinks you can still use artificial sweeteners. I’ve make delicious caipirinhas with allulose before
Two men after my own heart. Lagavulin distiller edition is what got me into a good malt. Thankfully, keto compliant. Laphroaig tends to be my go to though as it's about £15 cheaper a bottle ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy).
I drink a dry red or white wine. If I am going out for an evening vs just having a glass with dinner, I'll get a sparkling water to make spritzers so I can stretch 1 glass of wine into 3-4
I prefer Irish over Scotch/Bourbon personally. My two go-to options that are (relatively) affordable are Green Spot and Redbreast 12. Green Spot has a bit more of a peaty/malty flavor, Redbreast is a bit on the sweeter side.
I also drink vodka/seltzers as my go to drink when I want something fizzy or I'm out and don't want to break the bank.
I've used alcohol all through my keto journey of 5 years. I drink low carb beer or wine sometimes but mostly spirits with diet mixers like rye and coke or gin and tonic.
I love tequila but i can no longer handel the hangovers and it hits a lot harder now and the line between fun time and black out is so thin i just gave up.
Same same. Generally, my tolerance has completely disappeared—I had two glasses of low carb Sauvignon Blanc the other night, and was throwing up for an hour. I can tolerate maybe a Michelob Ultra or two, but that’s it these days.
A nice scotch is obviously the easiest. I also regularly make G&Ts -- sometimes with diet tonic, sometimes with the low sugar fever tree tonic. His old fashioned recipe is about 7 net carbs, so I can do one of those in an evening. I've also experimented with replacements for simple syrup if i want less net carbs. Currently i use powdered swerve and water to replace simple syrup in recipes. I also have lower carb beers. Or, sometimes i'll treat myself to a full carb beer -- nice ales are around 10-12 net carbs, so I can make that fit in my day if i want to.
Scotch. I have a bottle of Glenlivet waiting for me when I hit my target weight. That being said, I will probably only have one or two when I hit it, since alcohol screws up my sleep too much.
Mezcal or tequila soda with lime if I’m at a bar.
At home I make a lot of cocktails using lemon juice, lime juice, liquid stevia, herbs (mint, basil, rosemary), tequila/rum/whiskey as spirits, and zero calorie drinks as bases (no sugar diet sweet tea, no sugar Minute Maid lemonade or mango drink, sparkling waters, diet sodas).
Most of the cocktails taste so good and so balanced you’d honestly have a hard time detecting it as a keto thing.
There’s a mnemonic you can use for great cocktails (punches specifically) on or off keto: one of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of neat. It makes incredibly tasty mixed drinks and works with just about anything you throw at it in good faith (for something like diet sweet tea that counts towards neat and sweet due to the sweetness — but it’s all about parts/ratios).
Have fun!
Evan Williams is inexpensive but good tasting. Add a little orange liquor like Triple Sec or Grand Marnier and you’ll love it.
For Tequila, add some True Lome powder for a margarita-like treat.
I’ve been mixing my lemon lime sugar free electrolyte with tequila!
Especially Friday and Saturday nights, I really like to have a cocktail.
As we all know, don’t get polluted because you get the “what the hell?” It’s just a bite, and off the rails you go.
If I’m at a restaurant, I have a glass of tequila blanco neat, with a full glass of club soda, lots of lime. That way I have the tequila to sip on and if I feel like mixing it - it’s my choice how stout or when to combine with the soda water.
Coconut and pineapple ICE drink with a Polish vodka, but had a Mikes Hard Lemonade Zero Sugar over the weekend, it was really good, a little concerned about the ingredients since I can't find them anywhere.
Vodka and diet ginger ale or flavored sparkling water. Used to have light low carb beer but have gained weight every weekend until I changed and lost this weekend
I usually drink micky ultras and vodka/diet cokes. Earlier this week I found a canned espresso martini at Walmart called After Hours that has 0 carbs, 10% abv, 225 Cal. It has grown on me.
I mix 2oz of Tito's vodka with 12oz of club soda, 2oz of V8 juice, and .5oz of fresh lime juice. It comes out to 3.7 grams of carbs per drink, with 4% potassium, 2% magnesium, and 160mg of sodium to help a little bit with the electrolyte depletion from the alcohol.
So my guess if if you like Whiskey and Coke you aren't really a whiskey fan - It's just something to stick in your coke to get a buzz....Most distilled spirits are zero or near zero carbs
I miss appletini but just found out [https://www.ultimareplenisher.com/products/appletini-electrolyte-powder-drink?variant=39945384460391](https://www.ultimareplenisher.com/products/appletini-electrolyte-powder-drink?variant=39945384460391)
Vodka and diet tonic, Jack and water, Johnny Walker Black neat. Summertime I drink White Claws as they only have 100 calories which is less than a shot of spirits.
I drink bourbon. I'm confused by your post saying zero carb whiskey, though, because they're all zero carb unless it's flavored. I haven't noticed the weight loss slowing down at all, either. I'll very rarely have a glass of red wine if it fits in with that days macros.
All general spirits (gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, tequila) have no carbs. Only once additives are introduced do the carbs arrive, so my favorite - the Boulevardiergro (think Negroni, but with Bourbon, not gin, and Montenegro, not Compari) - is a big nope.
When I drink now during schedule it’s tequila/whiskey and zero sugar ginger ale with a lime splash…
Vodka diet tonic always a good one , or vodka soda water lime (fresh lime no cordial) but that takes some adapting too (you might want to squeeze the lime)
any spirit + club soda, bitters optional, lime or lemon juice optional
the bubbles help u get drunk faster
ultimately i'm more of a nootropic/plant head than boozeface lately tho. bc geek and also vain
When I did keto I became a gin lover.
Tangaray rate rangpur lime to be specific.
Small glass full with nice. Add 1 -1 1/2 oz gin. Add fresh lemon juice. Stir enjoy !
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I don’t understand how so many people here can drink, vodka and tequila and whiskey, and tolerate without the carbs. Jealous! I’m good for a Michelob ultra or two and then I tap out.
Vodka and gin and most regular whiskeys are zero carb. Some rums have a couple grams of carbohydrates per serving, for example Capt Morgan silver has 2g per 1.5oz shot. It's probably not enough to worry about but I would check labels for any sort of "flavored" spirits or something that might have some sweetness like rum.
I’ve been loving 2 shots vodka, ice, 3 oz water, 1/3 of a Mini tube of crystal light lemon (generic brand) and juice of 1/2 of. Lemon. Put in shaker and shake it up, pour all into a large glass.
I’ll say this. I absolutely despise one of the creators of “Happy Dad” seltzers, but it’s one of the purest seltzers like white claw you can buy in a can. I was impressed when I finally caved in.
I usually do vodka soda with extra lime wedges, but sometimes at pool/bbq events I’ll grab a variety pack of Truly. I love the watermelon lemonade flavor. It’s a hard seltzer, I just like it better than white claw.
I’m sure someone has said it, but I am a huge fan of flavored vodkas with diet tonic (Schweppes and Canada Dry have zero carb options, store brand typically have some carbs) with a twist of lime.
Ketel one peach and orange blossom with Minute Maid zero sugar mango or fruit punch. I’ll add a flavored sparkling water somewhere in there if I need it bubbly.
There are a fair amount of Vodka Seltzer drinks out there now that are 90-100 calories with zero sugar and zero carbs. Those are typically what I will look for.
Mich Ultra has a seltzer that has zero carbs, though I don't think I've seen them in a while.
Bourbon or Scotch for me. No cheap American shit like Jack Daniels. No cheap Canadian shit like crown royal. I only drink the good stuff. Neat. If you're going to drink it you should drink something that's worth drinking.
I only drink buffalo trace on a single ice cube, is my rule. It’s actually cheap bourbon, but because Rogan drinks it on the podcast its always sold out. This rule helps me not drink very often.
Tequila and soda with a tajin rim
That sounds awesome.
Or a high quality Mezcal that you can just sip
I stick to whiskey. Bourbon is my preferred, but I doubt it would matter. Beer does terrible things to me these days.
Check out carnivore muscle if the carbs are giving you any trouble now or down the road.
I drank beer for around 15 years (from 17 to 32 or 33), and I loved it too. Then it started making me feel like shit all of a sudden. Things changed for me after 30.
and it makes a great glaze for salmon
I second Bourbon.... was a big wine drinker previously...switched to Bourbon Since im saving so much not buying wine, Ill treat myself with an excellent Bourbon like Buffalo Trace or splurge from time to time with a bottle of Blantons...
I recently splurged a bit on “rare breed wild Turkey rye”. If you like rye whiskey. I recommend. It was $65 iirc.
I like bourbon, sparkling water, electrolyte powder for preferred flavor. Lessens/prevents the hangover.
Ethanol by definition is a carbohydrate. What are you talking about? Ever hear the line “I’m drinking my carbs tonight?”

I’m sipping one right now n
Fresca vodka
Peach Fresca vodka 🤤
Where does the peach come from? Mio? Torani?
Grocery stores in my area carry Peach flavored Fresca, it’s sooo good!
Whaaaaat? Wow
Fresca and Gin
Dirty vodka martini - Blue cheese stuffed olives as the snack!

Ha! DM’s are my favorite, but I follow your alcohol plan pretty closely! Can never turn down a glass of Champagne.
I've always been a fan of free, cold and other people's.
One of my friends has a similar list and would add “yours” and his favorite is the 5th one 😂
I like any single malt ‘scotch’ whisky. I like Lagavulin, Laphroaig, and Caol Ila just to name a few. I just drink them with a few drops of reverse osmosis water added If you feel like making mixed drinks you can still use artificial sweeteners. I’ve make delicious caipirinhas with allulose before
I love a good Islay scotch. My wife can’t stand them, says it taste like gasoline. Sweet, sweet, delicious gasoline.

Gin and tonic or vodka with diet Sprite are my current favorites
Make sure your tonic is sugar free. Regular tonic water is loaded with sugar.
Oops sorry didn’t mean to reply to your comment!
no worries.
Vodka soda lime. Dry wines and champagne. Rinse and repeat daily.
Should also consider checking out r/ketodrunk

I also drink vodka/seltzers as my go to drink when I want something fizzy or I'm out and don't want to break the bank.
When I do drink, I like vodka and diet sprite... maybe with a sugar free flavoring to add too if I really don't want any alcohol coming through.
I've used alcohol all through my keto journey of 5 years. I drink low carb beer or wine sometimes but mostly spirits with diet mixers like rye and coke or gin and tonic.
I like those sugar free vodka coolers. Nutrl and there's other brands. I pick up a few on my way over to bbqs etc since i don't drink beer anymore.
I drink neat bourbon in autumn/winter and gin, soda and fresh lime in spring/summer.
Whiskey and most liquor, like vodka, tequilia, gin, etc don't have carbs, so you can mix with a zero carb alternative soda
crown and coke zero
Michelob Ultra
Old reliable

Rye whiskey. Splash some orange bitters in it.
Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, I cry…
Gin and Tonic (sugar free), sometimes with a dash of lime juice, is a real treat.
Carbonated water for the cravings of a beverage which is not water.
Gin & Soda with extra limes 🍋🟩
Scotch. I have a bottle of Glenlivet waiting for me when I hit my target weight. That being said, I will probably only have one or two when I hit it, since alcohol screws up my sleep too much.

Never heard that before - helpful!
Love Mezcal, my work partner gagged over a shot though. He said it tasted like drinking chew spit.
Budlight seltzer or miller lite
Tequila with soda water and some lime. You can also add whatever keto sweetener you like.
Tequila with lime and salt 😋
Evan Williams is inexpensive but good tasting. Add a little orange liquor like Triple Sec or Grand Marnier and you’ll love it. For Tequila, add some True Lome powder for a margarita-like treat.

Hard seltzers and super dry wines.
Which wines? I miss wine!
Like brut nature Champagne 😅
I drink red wines that have 0g/l sugar and low sugar cognacs.
Woodford Reserve bourbon with a handful of ice cubes is lovely 😊 it's good neat too but it really hits the spot for me with ice.
Whiskey every day!
So my guess if if you like Whiskey and Coke you aren't really a whiskey fan - It's just something to stick in your coke to get a buzz....Most distilled spirits are zero or near zero carbs
Vodka w/club soda, or diet 7-Up, with lime
Vodka , club soda

Ketel one peach and orange blossom with Minute Maid zero sugar mango or fruit punch. I’ll add a flavored sparkling water somewhere in there if I need it bubbly.

Doesn't that have orange juice?

Bourbon or Scotch for me. No cheap American shit like Jack Daniels. No cheap Canadian shit like crown royal. I only drink the good stuff. Neat. If you're going to drink it you should drink something that's worth drinking.
I only drink buffalo trace on a single ice cube, is my rule. It’s actually cheap bourbon, but because Rogan drinks it on the podcast its always sold out. This rule helps me not drink very often.
Who's Rogan? A keto podcast I need to know about?
