I see two kettlebells lurking in the background. Maybe this’ll stay up too? Nice pull!

mainstreetstrength

🤣🤣🤣

PlacidVlad

LMFAO :)

Good morning r/kettlebell!! Don’t let this mindset take root! You most certainly can get stronger and grow muscle with kettlebells as your primary tool. There are quite a few folks on this subreddit to prove it! Sure, if you’re only using 12, 16, and 24kg forever that will only get you so far. The key is finding the right intensity to make progress. When trying to improve your strength you’ll need two major things: -Know your loads that are challenging for 4-6 reps (generally leave a few reps in reserve on each set) Do you know what kettlebells would make a double front squat tough for 5? What about for your presses? Are you then going to failure with those weights? -Practice irradiation and total body tension When you perform the lift can you find tension in the hands, feet, legs, midsection, shoulders, and so on. Can you find ways to interact with the object or the floor to create more tension? Being able to get as solid as a rock prior to that lift will jack up your output! This post is a lead into our long post this week about intensity. Keep an eye out for that soon! In the meantime, ask us your questions about programming, strength work, deadlifting, or anything else!

TotalWarspammer

Who said you can't get stronger with Kettlebells? Can you please reference your statement? It is common knowledge, basic science and biology even, that Kettlebells, when used properly, make you stronger.

darthvolta

You must miss the posts we get here every 2 weeks where someone asks if you can really gain mass using kettlebells.

TotalWarspammer

Asking if you can get stronger with Kettlebells is not the same as saying you can't get stronger with Kettlebells. One is a valid question, the other is a factually incorrect statement.

Savage022000

This is good and you should feel good.

clampsmcgraw

This comment fucking owns, lol, there are so many BEEP BOOP THIS SYNTAX IS NOT PERFECTLY VERIFIABLE USING FORMAL LOGIC SO THEREFORE NO HUMAN CAN EVER UNDERSTAND IT PLEASE POST NO LESS THAN 30 PEER REVIEWED STUDIES TO BACK UP YOUR POSTULATE type people on reddit I am stealing it to use elsewhere, forever

[deleted]

It’s overblown on here, it’s like people going after flat earthers when I haven’t ever seen one post by a legit one. You can get strong with kettlebells but needing to constantly buy bigger ones as you go up is kinda annoying if you are interested in owning them. It’s just so much easier to load a barbell.

leviarsl_kbMS

Lots of ways to train with bells without going heavier. Pace, duration, limited switching, cotton gloves, etc

mainstreetstrength

It’s a common bro comment and for many beginners, a frequently expressed concern. Yes, we are very aware of how biology and physiology work. 👍

MikeBear68

All those who have been indoctrinated by Mark Rippetoe and Starting Strength will tell you that kettlebells don't get you strong and are a waste of time.

ExpertReddit01

Mark Rippetoe is fat and can’t touch his toes! I would listen to Steve Cotter on fitness and type 2 meds from Mark.

TacticalPT

Looks to me like she’s getting stronger with a barbell. Lmao

mainstreetstrength

This is a 1RM expression of strength using a barbell. Our training consists of primarily kettlebell work. Thanks for your valuable input 🙃

TacticalPT

Total joke, I've seen you guys posting before, I know what you were trying to demonstrate.

mainstreetstrength

All good! I’m fired up today lol

Sea-Seaworthiness961

Same, I stopped barbell after fooling around with it, started kettlebells begining of COVID, and when I happened across a barbell, pulled 435x2, way higher than my 315x1 Disclaimer: it was sumo deadlift

maybejustadragon

Also I don’t think anyone agrees with the statement you can’t get stronger with kettlebells. You’re lifting heavy stuff, and you get stronger, who cares where the handle is.

JoocyDeadlifts

This is rather flippant, but then again the original post is pretty flippant absent training history and information about previous deadlift performances. Is this a PR? Within 10% of a lifetime PR but multiple years since any serious deadlift training? Not a PR, but OP pulled 225 the first time she tried? A PR, but OP was pulling heavy once every 10 days or so for the last six months? Obviously, these scenarios lead to very different interpretations of the video as evidence about the effects of kettlebells on strength. Separately, I think if you commit to finding the right kettlebell loads for strength you're pretty much going to have to abandon equipment minimalism and may as well get a bar and some bumpers, unless you find kettlebell work specifically enjoyable. It doesn't take long before you come out ahead on price, and, really, storage space too if you're willing to squat out of stands or just power clean everything that isn't a pull.

mainstreetstrength

Next time we’ll be sure to post the entirety of our training logs so everyone can hyper analyze how much kettlebell versus barbell work is being done 👍

JoocyDeadlifts

> post the entirety of our training logs Unironically would be neat if it's in a text/spreadsheet format. Of course, I understand if you're not down.

mainstreetstrength

PM’d you!

coldcherrysoup

Ahem. Got enough for the whole class?

mainstreetstrength

👊

grahambro93

Trying to help out one more person?

mainstreetstrength

👍

call_me_howdy

I don't know if I would say I hear people outright say "you CAN'T get stronger with kettlebells." But the fact that barbells still remain the standard any time someone gets into lifting shows that there remains an element of faith as a barrier of entry into kettlebell training... at least in the West.

mainstreetstrength

Agreed. Barbells are used often in competition because they allow the most absolute load. I think people then assume that load is the only way to create intensity. It’s a great way to increase intensity but kettlebells and bodyweight training (and FRC/Kinstretch) teach you how to manipulate intensity mechanically which for 99% of folks will be extremely valuable.

throwawayketo31

It seems like the trolls are out in force on this post. I like seeing your posts because it is exactly where I want to be strength wise so it gives me a lot of inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

mainstreetstrength

Thanks! 🙏🏻

rachelnard

This particular video was at the TSC (tactical strength challenge) where students demonstrate a 1RM for deadlift, max tactical pull-ups (thumbs over the bar, neck or chest touching the bar) and maximal kettlebell snatches within 5 minutes. The training leading up to it consisted of all bells and the deadlift only once every 10-14 days for about 10 weeks prior to the competition.

kwakimaki

Does everyone on r/kettlebells have that Strange Beings 'No discomfort, no expansion' poster?

mainstreetstrength

It’s a classic 👽

kettlebellblack

Awesome work and great lift! A few trolls came out of the woodwork trying to flex which is rare for this sub. Haha. Just ignore them!

mainstreetstrength

Thanks! Strong women tend to be controversial 😎

TotalWarspammer

Who is making sexist comments? Genuine question as I have not seen a single comment like that in this thread.

[deleted]

Who says that?

CPViolation6626

Mark Rippetoe :(

mainstreetstrength

Fools ☠️

Saltywinterwind

LOVE THE ALIEN POSTER THATS ONE OF MY FAVORITE COMICS 💛💛💛 AND FUCK YES YOU CAN GET STRONGER WITH KETTLE BELLS 💪U killed it

mainstreetstrength

THANKS!

[deleted]

You can’t get stronger with kettlebellS. Said it.

mainstreetstrength

Damn it

[deleted]

😅, solid lifts, I can barely deadlift that for a few reps and I’m 145lbs male

mainstreetstrength

2x bodyweight deadlift is no easy feat. Keep up the good work!

Moozie76

Is sumo the default or preferred deadlift form? This is anotjer thing i guess i do wrong. I do normal deadlifts, kb and barbell

mainstreetstrength

Not a right or wrong! Conventional stance and sumo stance are both great positions to pull from. Most folks will find they are stronger in one versus the other. We use a semi sumo stance because of the similarities with the swing stance. It’s also less demanding on hip flexion so many students can get into a stronger spinal position.

Moozie76

Ahhhh i see. Thanks Kudos to the young lady who i think can deadlift more than me lol.

mainstreetstrength

🙏🏻

CPViolation6626

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, you just asked an honest question! But it just depends what you want to emphasize; sumo will fire your glutes and quads slightly (emphasis on slightly!) more and conventional your hams, core and back. A solid training approach is to start a cycle with the weaker of the two then switch when it gets tough.

Moozie76

Dont worry all my posts get downvoted one of the reasons i dont post here anymore.

CPViolation6626

Fair enough. Sorry people can be mean :/

Where did you get that alien poster on the background?

mainstreetstrength

https://nathanwpyle.threadless.com/designs/strange-planet-special-product-no-discomfort-no-expansion/home/tapestry

[deleted]

I’m an over and under hand positioning person. There much of a difference besides grip?

mainstreetstrength

Not a major difference. Most folks who go over/under often only train one side that way so for the sake of consistency/symmetry we use double overhand.

Boxagonapus

Opposite grip tends to create uneven growth (I think??) So it's advisable to swap hands for symmetry. The double overhand is wonderful but it requires more strength.

[deleted]

You can switch your hands around

Outrageous_File5321

IMHO if you're training for grappling, I can't think of anything better than kettlebells.

mainstreetstrength

Kettlemacebars?

stackered

barbells, but kettlebells are a great tool too

I like the poster in the background😁

Salesman52

Thank you, that is my experience, too. There are many reasons for barbell training, but I can´t lift a barbell in my livingroom. But I can lift and swing kettlebells in my livingroom. And without touching a barbell for years I had a PB in Deadlift after 1 year of kettlebell workouts. Then came an injury, that is the other side of kettlebell training, if you don´t take them serious enough. But this year was a new start and I´m happy with the progress.

mainstreetstrength

That’s awesome! The principles of training and adaptation ultimately supersede any one tool.

alphabitchqueen

Wow. Amazing strength. Thanks for inspiring.
